3- Gold Vs. 5- Green Highlights

8/18/2019

Connor Thomas (2020 C, Farmington, UT) doubled in his first at bat of the game today. Thomas has an aggressive approach at the plate with a smooth swing and showed good instincts on the bases. Behind the plate Thomas displayed good receiving skills and did a good job working with his pitchers. 

Jake Harper (2021 OF, San Pedro, CA) singled three times this afternoon for the green team. Harper has a sound approach at the plate with a nice easy swing and does a good job of barreling up the ball consistently.

Jake Glickman (2021 3B, Culver City, CA) singled and doubled in the game this afternoon. Glickman takes an aggressive swing at the plate with bat speed and has a good bat path.

Luis Fernandez (2021 C, Los Angeles, CA) singled in his first and last at bat of the day today. Fernandez has a good plate presence with good pitch recognition and does a good job of using the whole field.

Brady Chavez (2020 RHP/1B, Santa Cruz, CA) singled all three times he came up to the plate today. Chavez makes hard solid contact at the plate with bat speed and has good balance in his stance. 

Noah Zertuche (2021 SS, Hayward, CA) singled in his first and last at bat of the day as well. Zertuche showed a confident approach at the plate with a line drive swing plane.

Bobby Bangs (2023 RHP/OF, Irvine, CA) singled his first two times up today for the gold team. Bangs showed a contact approach at the plate with a level swing and does a good job of hitting the ball where it's pitched. 

Solomon Yi (2020 OF, Orange, CA) doubled and singled this afternoon for his team. Yi does a good job of letting the ball travel while showing bat speed and has good instincts on the bases with speed.

Ryan Troye (2020 3B, Brentwood, CA) doubled twice this afternoon for the gold team. Troye showed the ability to square the ball up consistently at the plate with bat speed and drives the ball to the gaps.

 
 



8- Orange Vs. 10- Red Highlights

8/18/2019

Joshua Park (2020 C/RHP, Irvine, CA) sat 80-84mph on his fastball today mixing in his curveball at 73mph. Park repeats his delivery with arm side run to his fastball throwing it to both sides of the plate for strikes and has tight rotation on his curveball. At the plate Park singled twice today. ark has a compact swing showing the ability to consistently square the ball up. 

Elijah Thurman (2020 OF, Chandler, AZ) doubled in the game for the Orange team today. Thurman has a line drive swing plane with a confident approach at the plate and showed bat speed.

Daniel Osborn (2022 RHP/IF, Glendale, AZ) had a good showing at the plate today collecting a single in his final at bat. Osborn does a good job of hitting the ball where it's pitched and showed good pitch recognition at the plate. 




 

Purple vs. Navy Highlights

8/18/2019

Peyton Von Kaenel (2022 RHP, Calimesa, CA)got the start for the Navy team and ran his fastball up to 83 mph over his couple innings of action. Along with the fastball that showed life to his arm side, Von Kaenel also mixed in a short and tight curveball up to 72 mph. He punched out eight over three innings.

Andrew Tank Rodriguez (2020 C, Fontana, CA) performed well on both sides of the ball, showing nice defensive actions behind the plate with polished receiving skills and a strong arm on his throws to second. He also made his presence felt offensively with a single down the left field line, staying direct while showing his strength. Later on, he barreled a low-80s fastball for a hard line drive single which registered 89 mph off the barrel.

Sam Chapman (2022 OF, Gilbert, AZ) got an inner half 80 mph fastball in his first at-bat and did a nice job of getting the barrel around to turn on the ball for a double down the line.

Luca Pater (2021 LHP, Downey, CA) split the gap to the opposite field for a single from the left side, plating the first run of the game for the Navy squad before doubling in his next trip to the plate. The third at-bat was more of the same for Pater, getting his arms extended for an opposite field line drive single before doubling over the head of the right fielder for a nice four-hit game.

Tim Scarlett (2020 RHP, Ladera Ranch, CA) is physically imposing on the mound and came out attacking hitters with a fastball that topped out at 89 mph. With a longer arm stroke, the San Diego State commit was able to generate plane to his fastball and induce ground ball contact while mixing in a short 11-5 curveball around the zone.

Isaac Gonzaga (2023 2B, Oakley, CA) picked up a couple hits on the day, both first pitch swinging with a single up the middle before turning on a ball for a double down the pull side line to open the fifth inning.

Matthew Diaz (2020 SS, Rancho Cucamonga, CA) enjoyed a nice two-hit as well for the Navy team, showing nice control of the barrel while executing a middle of the field approach while also connecting for a loud line out to center field. 

Jaedeyn Edwards (2022 RHP, Los Angeles, CA) got a pitch he could handle up in the zone and barreled it hard to deep center field for a standup double, plating a run in the sixth inning. A primary arm, the uncommitted Edwards also jumped on the bump and ran his fastball up to 88 mph, showing a fast arm and heavy life when down in the zone. 

Michael Nunez (2021 RHP, Stevenson Ranch, CA) ran his fastball up to 85 mph in his first inning of work, showing nice running life down in the zone with a quick right arm. He maintained low-80s over three frames, mixing in a short curveball with 11-5 shape up to 72 mph.

Trevor McCorkle (2020 C, Puyallup, WA) made his first hit of the game count as he barreled a fastball hard into his pull side gap, scooting around the bases for a triple while plating a pair of runs for the Purple team.

Jackson Fleming (2020 MIF, Dana Point, CA) performed well offensively for the Purple team, picking up three hits on the day including a line drive single back up the middle during his final trip to the plate. Along with the base knocks he also stole 4 bases, drove in a run, and scored two runs.


1- Black Vs. 6- Maroon Highlights

Anthony Ortiz (2020 SS/RHP, Montebello, CA) topped out at 87mph on his fastball mixing in a slider at 71mph and a changeup at 74mph. Ortiz has a compact delivery with a short arm circle pitching from a high 3/4 arm slot. Ortiz has arm side run to his fastball doing a good job of mixing in his pitches for strikes. At the plate Ortiz singled and tripled in the game as well. He showed an aggressive approach at the plate with bat speed with good pitch recognition. 

Giovanni Giganti (2020 C, San Diego, CA) showed an aggressive approach at the plate with a good bat path and squared the ball up multiple times today.

Victor Arreola (2021 C, San Diego, CA) doubled and singled in the game for the black team today. Arreola showed a good approach at the plate with a good plate presence with bat speed.

Christian Wilson (2020 C, Bakersfield, CA) doubled in the game for the black team today. Wilson has a balanced stance at the plate with a smooth swing.

Graysen Tarlow (2020 3B, Orange, CA) reached base all four times he came up today including singling three times today. Tarlow has a confident approach at the plate with bat speed and squared the ball up consistently.

Matt Schavone (2020 OF, Fullerton, CA) singled and tripled in the game for the black team today. Schavone has a direct bat path, did a good job of consistently centering the ball up today with bat speed.

Tanner Cardoza (2021 C, Hanford, CA) singled twice in the game this morning today for the gray team. Cardoza has a simple approach at the plate with a good swing showing the ability to center the ball up. 

Ethan Watson (2022 3B, Newport Beach, CA) singled and doubled in the game today. Watson showed a line drive swing plane with bat speed and showed good speed on the bases.

Logan McCleery (2021 RHP, Patterson, CA) sat 81-84 on his fastball today mixing in his slider at 76mph and his changeup at 73mph. McCleery has an effortless delivery with use of his lower half, with good direction on the mound. McCleery did a good job of mixing pitches in to keep hitters off-balance and generates swings and misses.

Shawn Hunt (2021 3B, Portland, OR) tripled and doubled in the game for the Gray team today. Hunt showed a quick bat path at the plate with quick wrists and did a good job of letting the ball travel.

Justin Cabada (2022 OF, Brea, CA) singled in his first two at bats today. Cabada has a level swing with bat speed and did a good job of squaring the ball up at the plate today.

Dominic Teneriello (2021 3B, Monrovia, CA) singled in his last two at bats of the day today. Teneriello showed a confident approach at the plate with a level swing and barreled up the ball multiple times today.

Day 2 Batting Practice Highlights

8/18/2019

Andrew Tank Rodriguez (2020 C, Fontana, CA) showed off quickness to his hands from the right side of the plate, staying short and quick through the zone. He did a nice job of creating some lift out front and utilizing his strength while getting the barrel out front.

Diego Hernandez (2021 C, Irvine, CA) remained on time throughout his round, utilizing a contact oriented approach while showing a handle for the barrel. There’s rhythm to his load and fluidity to the stroke from the right side, showing his best contact to his pull side when extended out front.

Trevor McCorkle (2020 C, Puyallup, WA) put together a nice round of batting practice, creating torque with his swing while exhibiting a natural feel for the barrel. He worked the middle of the field consistently with line drive contact, flashing carry while repeating his mechanics.

Jackson Fleming (2020 MIF, Dana Point, CA) is currently uncommitted and the rising senior put together a nice round of BP. Staying direct and quick to the ball, Fleming showed a handle for the barrel with contact to both the middle and pull side parts of the field.

Ken Kamiyana (2020 1B, Koga, FO) is a strong lefthanded hitter who showcased his strength well during his time in the box. With a low effort stroke and loose hands, Kamiyama showed nice strength off the barrel with back spun contact and carry to the middle of the field.

Yuto Mimura (2020 OF, Toshima, TK) showed a contact oriented approach in the box, staying linear through the zone while creating line drive contact coming off. He creates some whip to the barrel and did a nice job of getting extended out front at the point of contact.

Greg Marmo (2022 SS, Santa Barbara, CA) took one of the louder rounds of the day, staying short and direct to the ball while creating nice bat speed through the zone. A rising junior, Marmo showed both rhythm and timing to his swing while repeating his mechanics and consistently getting the barrel to the ball.


Black vs Columbia Blue Game Highlights

Owen Wessel (2021 SS, Huntington Beach, CA) showed what could be the defensive play of this weekend. He shows a good first step and excellent routes in the outfield, really gets good reads on the ball. 

Giovanni Giganti (2020 C, San Diego, CA) shows an aggressive but smart approach at the plate. He picked up two hits in todays action, showing good barrel feel and control to square it up consistently. Giovanni shows present pop to the gaps, and shows good athleticism on the base paths.

Graysen Tarlow (2020 3B, Orange, CA) is an athlete kid, who shows good present strength in his frame. He has a very advanced approach at the plate and looks to do damage. In todays game he racked up two hits one of them being a triple which showed off his speed and base running ability. 

Dominic Zapien (2020 3B, Riverside, CA) is a big frame with strength to the pull side, which he showed in game today. He shows good ability to get good extension and stay through the ball after contact. He has present bat speed and good barrel control throughout the swing, has slight lift in swing. 

Tanner Cardoza (2021 C, Hanford, CA) ripped a double in the game this afternoon. Tanner shows good bat speed and ability to find the barrel. He works from an upright stance and high hand set but stays through the ball and works the middle of the field.  

Matt Schavone (2020 OF, Fullerton, CA) worked four innings in todays afternoon game. He worked from a high 3/4 arm slot, staying online and well balanced throughout his delivery. He ran his Fastball up to 86mph with some arm-side run to it, pitching well to both sides of the plate. He also showed a curveball today showing good 11/5 shape with slight depth to it working it at 73mph.

Jonathan Largaespada (2020 RHP, Compton, CA) worked four innings this afternoon only allowing 2 hits and striking out 5 batters. He worked from a longer arm action, getting good down hill plane on his fastball. He generated some arm-side well running his fastball up to 89mph. He falshes some potential with a slider that worked at 74mph, but has a lot of feel for his changeup already which could be a plus pitch the future working it at 79mph.

3- Gold Vs. 4- Gray Highlights

8/17/2019

Jack Weaver (2021 SS, Woodland Hills, CA) had a single and double this afternoon for the Gold team. Weaver has a nice easy swing at the plate with good speed on the bases. 

Mark Daley (2020 OF, Bradbury, CA) had a double in the game today. Daley showed a quick bat at the plate with a line drive swing plane and showed good instincts on the bases. 

Gavin Browne (2022 SS, Riverside, CA) doubled in the game for the gray team today. Browne does a good job of hitting the ball where it's pitched and showed bat speed.

Travis Warinner (2020 SS, Glendale, AZ) doubled and tripled in the game today. Warinner makes hard consistent contact at the plate with bat speed and showed good speed on the bases.

Tai Nguyen (2022 1B, Las Vegas, NV) had 3 singles in the game today. Nguyen hits the ball to all fields, has a strong build and continued his strong day at the plate after a good showing during batting practice.

Kevin Takeuchi (2023 SS, San Diego, CA) singled and tripled in the game for the maroon team today. Takeuchi has a level swing plane with bat speed and a confident approach at the plate. 

Noah Rumenapp (2020 C, Ontario, CA) singled twice in the game for the maroon team as well. Rumenapp showed a patient approach at the plate and made solid contact at the plate all day today. 

Brady Chavez (2020 RHP, Santa Cruz, CA) topped out at 83mph today on his fastball mixing in his curveball at 74mph and his changeup at 75mph. Chavez showed the ability to throw all 3 pitches for strikes, and did a good job of keeping hitters off-balance mixing in his pitches well. At the plate Chavez squared the ball up a couple of times including doubling in his first at bat. Chavez showed pop at the plate with bat speed. 

Noah Zertuche (2021 SS, Hayward, CA) doubled in his second at bat this afternoon. Zertuche has a nice easy swing with a sound approach at the plate and showed the ability to square the ball up.

Tino Valdez (2022 SS, Los Angeles, CA) singled and tripled in the game for the green team. Valdez showed good bat speed at the plate and does a good job of hitting the ball where it's pitched. 

Jake Harper (2021 OF/3B, San Pedro, CA) showed well at the plate today including singling in his last at bat. Harper has a level swing plane with bat speed and makes solid consistent contact at the plate. In the field he showed off his glove at 3rd base making a couple of diving plays to get the hitter out. 

Luke Boulanger (2021 2B, Los Angeles, CA) singled 3 times this afternoon. Boulanger showed bat speed with a confident approach at the plate and consistently squared the ball up at the plate.

Ben Meyerson (2020 LHP, Phoenix, AZ) topped out 84mph this afternoon with his curveball at 70mph and his changeup at 76mph. Meyerson created angle on the mound with short life to his fastball and has sweeping action to his curveball.  
 



 
 


9- Purple Vs. 10- Red Highlights

8/17/2019

Demetrius Vizcarra (2020 RHP, Compton, CA) topped out at 90mph on his fastball today mixing in his curveball at 68mph. Vizcarra has a quick arm with a heavy fastball and generates lots of swings and misses. 

Thomas McCaffrey (2020 C, Santa Monica, CA) doubled in his first at bat of the game today. McCaffrey has a line drive swing plane with bat speed and showed the ability to square the ball up at the plate.

Teagan Carey (2021 SS, Scottsdale, AZ) made hard contact both times he came up today. Carey has good bat speed with good speed on the bases and showed a smooth glove at short stop.

Ken Kamiyana (2020 1B, Koga, FO) doubled and singled this afternoon for the red team. Kamiyana showed good plate discipline with a smooth swing and barreled the ball up twice.

Fuga Yambe (2020 RHP/INF, Shibata, MG) tripled in his second at bat of the day. Yambe showed a confident approach at the plate with a level swing and displayed good speed on the bases. 

Tatsuya Sakai (2020 RHP/OF, Daito/, OS) doubled in his last at bat of the day today. Sakai does a good job of hitting the ball where it's pitched and hustled for his double. 

Akira Nishikawa (2022 OF, Himeji, HG) lined a double in his last at bat of the game today. Nishikawa has a level swing with bat speed and showed good pitch recognition.

Matthew Oliden (2020 C, Whittier, CA) tripled in his final at bat of the game today. Oliden has a strong build with pop in his bat lining the ball over the CFer's head for his triple.   


 
  

Navy v. Orange

8/17/2019

There were plenty of hits to go around in game one for both Navy and Orange at the West Coast Prospect Showcase. Andrew Tank Rodriguez (2020 C, Fontana, CA) started things off for team navy with a booming triple into the left center gap that sounded good off the bat. He did a nice job of pulling his hands in and getting the head out on the baseball. 

Skylar Hales (2020, RHP/1B, Reno, NV) followed suit with a double into the right center gap with a smooth looking stroke. Hales has a tall athletic build that projects and got his elbow into the slot quickly on his double. He also was lights out on the mound with an 80-to-83 mph fastball that was effectively cutting on hitters late. He threw three no hit innings. 

Joey Fonseca (2021 3B, Visalia, CA) and Matthew Diaz (2020 SS, Rancho Cucamonga, CA) both had three hits in the ball game and combined for two runs and two RBI's with clean compact swings that helped Navy to a win over Orange. 

Joshua Park (2020 C, Irvine, CA) looked solid for team Orange behind the plate and smoked two doubles on his day at the plate along with an RBI. He has a solid middle of the field approach with a competitive playing style that projects. He made multiple strong plays behind the plate including a nice grab along the fence line on a high fly ball behind the backstop. 

 




Day 1 Batting Practice Highlights

8/17/2019

Giovanni Giganti (2020 C, San Diego, CA) showcased a linear stroke from the right side which he repeated well, showing quickness to his hands. Though he’ll occasionally get to his front side he was able to create line drive contact off the barrel and remains direct to the ball with barreled contact.

Christian Wilson (2020 C, Bakersfield, CA) is a strong 6-3/215 righthanded hitting catcher who is currently uncommitted. He uses his strength well to impact the ball when extended out front with a long path through the zone with occasional lift at the point of contact.

Conner Gleissner (2020 LHP, Goleta, CA) is listed as a primary lefthanded pitcher in the program but took one of the more interesting rounds of BP for the Black team. A lefthanded bat, Gleissner showed quickness to both his hands and his barrel, squaring it up well while living to the middle part of the field.

Another primary lefthander who showed well with the stick, Kaden Hustead (2021 LHP, Vista, CA) also stood out for his lefthanded swing this afternoon. He swings with intent and generates nice present bat speed through the zone, handling the barrel while creating some whip and leverage out front.

An uncommitted shortstop, Owen Wessel (2021 SS, Huntington Beach, CA) had a nice first day both in the infield during drills as well as during BP. With his righthanded swing he does a nice job of getting extended out front, creating nice torque while consistently finding the barrel at the point of contact.

Ethan Watson (2022 3B, Newport Beach, CA) is just entering his sophomore year of high school but already stands out for his abilities in the righthanded batter’s box. Staying short to the ball and looking to impact it out front, Watson showed carry off the barrel with some whip through the point of contact.

Solomon Yi (2020 OF, Orange, CA)showed off some tools during his round of batting practice with barreled baseballs and projects for even more as he simplifies his approach. The feel for the barrel is there as Yi shows comfort turning on the ball to his pull side with both looseness and present bat speed through the zone.

Ryan Troye (2020 3B, Brentwood, CA) took one of the louder rounds on the day, utilizing his 6-3/190 frame well in the batter’s box. Staying short and loose to the ball, the uncommitted Troye was able to generate torque through is lower half while creating nice bat speed and carry to either gap.

Tai Nguyen (2022 1B, Las Vegas, NV) incorporates his physical strength well into his swing, staying short and direct to the ball while utilizing the strength in his hands well. While his path is a bit longer through the zone he was able to show nice jump off the barrel when extended out front with a linear path to the point of contact.

Jake Glickman (2021 3B, Culver City, CA) is a projectable third baseman at 5-10/165 who shows components to his swing that project with added strength. He remains shorter to the ball with some quickness through the zone, showing some whip to the barrel and comfort hitting to his pull side.

Jake Harper (2021 OF, San Pedro, CA) showed off a nice swing from the left side of the plate with a natural feel for the barrel. He creates looseness with his hands and present bat speed through the zone, turning on the ball with comfort while employing a contact oriented approach.

Mason Musgrave (2020 RHP, Riverdale, CA) is a projectable 6-2/170 and he uses his size to generate some of the better bat speed on the Maroon team. Though listed as a primary pitcher, Musgrave did a nice job of getting the barrel out front with some separation and leverage when on time.

CJ Glenn (2020 RHP, Phoenix, AZ) is an uncommitted right handed hitter who is listed as a primary arm, meaning there could be some two-way potential at the next level. He hasn’t thrown yet, but he did utilize a pull approach while creating some of the louder contact off the barrel with nice jump when squared.

Tommy Bayles (2021 1B, San Diego, CA) stands at 6-4/220 and the uncommitted first baseman showed his ability to utilizes his physical strength. Though it’s an upper body dominant swing, Bayles was able to drive the ball thanks to the strength in his hands and projects very nicely with added use of his lower half.
