Billy Rice is a 2021 SS/RHP with a 6-2 160 lb. frame from Rancho Santa Margarita, CA who attends Mater Dei. Large, athletic frame with square shoulders and a lean, projectable build with room to fill throughout moving forward. Ran a 7.60 60-yard dash. Primary shortstop, moves well to the ball and fields it out front, approaches the ball well, shows a quick transfer out of slot, longer arm action on throws across the diamond, shows ability to drop slot with accuracy, can continue to refine overall footwork. Also pitched, deliberate tempo to delivery with some drop and drive to lower half mechanics, works to a lower three-quarters release point; creates some deception at release, fastball topped out at 80 mph, best life when working to arm side. Curveball shows 11-5 shape with short depth and late bite, best when down in the zone. Lefthanded hitter, begins with an even and spread stance in the box with a high hand set and back elbow. Shows looseness to hands and gets extension out front; looks to pull at point of contact, occasionally gets mistimed at the plate. Shows a handle for the barrel and utilizes a hanging leg lift for timing, shows jump off the barrel to pull side when squared. Good student.
