Purple vs. White Highlights

4/7/2019

After impressing with the bat throughout the event, Owen Egan (2023 OF, Yucaipa, CA) got the start on the mound and showed nice present arm strength. He ran his fastball up to 84 mph and lived in the low-80s while mixing both a changeup and a curveball with some feel.

Cody Nitowitz (2023 OF, Carlsbad, CA) helped get the Purple team on the board in the second inning with a line drive up the middle, getting his hands extended out front while finding the barrel for a well struck single.

The lone extra base hit of the contest belonged to Greg Palamountain (2023 SS, Lafayette, CA), dropping a fly ball into shallow right field and showed his hustle out of the box to stretch it into a double.

Garrett Mnich (2022 OF, Fontana, CA) picked up a live drive single into left field in his second at-bat of the game and quickly got himself into scoring position by swiping second base.

6-Red vs. 7-White Game Highlights

4/7/2019

Gavin Eddy (2023 RHP, Claremont, CA) worked in the upper-70s with a lot of strikes and a good changeup. He has a large frame with a repeatable delivery as he loads onto his backside well and wasn't afraid to go to the changeup regardless of of handedness.

Manoah Chapman (2023 SS, San Diego, CA) made a couple of very good defensive plays including one where he went up the middle nicely with good balance, smooth hands, and a good internal clock to nail the baserunner. He also roped a double down the pull side line later in the game showing quick hands.

Julian Cebrero (2023 SS, Tucson, AZ) showed good balance on a single earlier in the game as he went down to get a low fastball and drive it on a line to the pull side.

Maddox Molony (2023 SS, Springfield, OR) has a very clean operation on the mound with a low effort release and a fastball that topped out at 80 mph. He mixed in a tight breaking ball and really pounded the zone with a good number of whiffs.

Aidan Espinoza (2023 OF, Huntington Beach, CA) closed the game out and showed a live arm topping out at 78 mph. He throws from an over the top arm slot with good arm speed and a whippy arm while generating good life and striking out a hitter.

5-Purple vs. 6-Red Game Highlights

4/7/2019

Owen Egan (2023 OF, Yucaipa, CA) showed out again during this game with a rocket triple down the opposite field line and a pull side inside the park home run. The bat speed certainly stands out and he would've had an assist at home plate on a strong throw.

Matthew Flores (2023 C, Redwood City, CA) showed the ability to work to the opposite field with a triple that burned over the head of the right fielder. He got the barrel out in front and a level swing plane.

Luke Scherrer (2023 RHP, Yucaipa, CA) had a pretty good performance on the mound, topping out at 79 mph with a lot of run. He has a quick arm from a lower arm slot and consistently worked over the inner third to righthanders that made for tough at-bats.

Cody Nitowitz (2023 OF, Carlsbad, CA) handles the barrel well and had two knocks on the day, a line drive to the pull side and a ground ball up the middle. He also showed the speed with three stolen bases on the day.

Jackson Hisey (2023 OF, Arcadia, CA) showed a quick arm and was up to 79 mph on the mound. The arm stroke is compact through the back and he mixed in a mid-60s breaking ball with a frame and arm speed to project upon.

2-Gold vs. 3-Navy Game Highlights

4/7/2019

Brian Trujillo (2023 C, Fountain Valley, CA) was really getting the barrel head out during the game today with two doubles. The first he carried deep to left and over the fielder's head while he hustled for the second one, beating out a double on a soft liner that split the outfielders.

Brex Starley (2023 C, Hurricane, UT) rocketed a double down the pull side earlier in the game, pulling his hands in nicely and staying within the baseball, and later pitched running his fastball up to 79 mph with lots of downhill plane from an over the top slot.

Conner Raetzman (2023 3B, Tucson, AZ) worked with very good command of his fastball that topped out at 74 mph. Raetzman throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot and good sink on both sides and got a good amount of ground balls.

Miles Preston Ghossein (2024 SS, West Hills, CA) showed his potential on the mound with four strikeouts in two innings. He ran his fastball up to 77 mph with feel for both sides of the plate, a clean delivery, and a good breaking ball while also barreling the ball multiple times offensively.

Isaac Ypina (2023 1B, Hemet, CA) collected two hits on the afternoon including a double in his final at-bat. He had a line drive single earlier and kept his hands inside an elevated fastball to drive it down the pull side line. There's strength to the swing and he also showed good feel for a curveball on the mound.

1-Columbia Blue vs. 4-Orange Game Highlights

4/7/2019

Zachary Bethell (2024 C, Lake Elsinore, CA) did a little bit of everything right off the bat for the Orange team this morning. A lefthanded bat, Bethell connected for a hard line drive single before jumping on the mound and showing nice potential with a fastball up to 77 mph to compliment a nice curveball up to 68 mph.

Zach Wadas (2023 1B, Phoenix, AZ) continued to swing a nice lefthanded stick for the Columbia Blue team as the projectable Arizona native tripled deep over the right fielder’s head for a well struck ball that jumped off his bat and added another into the pull side gap later in the game.

Teammate Dean West (2023 OF, Woodland Hills, CA) followed with a triple of his own, showing a short and fast stroke from the left side which he barreled into the right field corner, showing off his wheels as he coasted into third base.

Paxton Fenberg (2023 SS, Kirkland, WA) showed one of the better arms on the mound in the showcase, touching 85 mph with his best fastball while working in the 78-82 mph range. He also showed the ability to land his curveball for strikes.

Joshua Torres (2023 SS, Highland, CA) worked on the mound in relief and did his job effectively, striking out four batters in three innings while running his heater up to 75 mph with a solid curveball for strikes at 63 mph.

Matthew Bates (2023 SS, Vista, CA) was able to execute the hit-and-run for the Orange squad, keeping his hands in well while driving a pitch to the opposite field with intent for a single.

Grant Govel (2023 OF, Rolling Hills Estates, CA) got his hands out in front to drive a ball into the left centerfield gap. Govel has an aggressive approach with lift in his swing and did a nice job to hustle all the way around the bases for a triple.

Purple vs. White Highlights

4/6/2019

Justin Lee (2023 RHP, Los Angeles, CA)got the start for the White team and showed a quick arm on the bump. He ran his fastball up to 77 mph early in the contest, creating angle at release and showed nice shape to his slider as well.

Ryan Cooney (2023 SS, Portland, OR) continued to swing it well for the Purple squad, sending a line drive double down the left field line to plate the first run of the game. He proved he wasn’t done however as he connected for another hard line drive double in his next at-bat.

Owen Egan (2023 OF, Yucaipa, CA) kept up the hot hitting with another hard base knock, sending a fastball past the third baseman for a well struck single.

Austin Kurr (2023 RHP, Newbury Park, CA)got the start on the mound and quickly ran his fastball up to 77 mph for Purple from a higher slot. He mixed in a nice 12-6 curveball for strikes at 62 mph and a changeup up to 66 mph.

Gavin Eddy (2023 RHP, Claremont, CA) put a nice swing on the ball in his first at-bat as he went with an outer half fastball for a line drive single into right-center field.

Andre Hyrkin (2022 MIF, Palo Alto, CA) made the defensive play of the game, robbing a hard line drive hit from Manoah Chapman as he made a diving snag to his left, showing a good reaction time while flashing the leather.

Garrett Mnich (2022 OF, Fontana, CA) put a very nice swing on the ball, staying compact to the ball with his righthanded swing for a double to the gap before coming around to score quickly on an error.

Though a secondary pitcher, righthander Vaughn Major (2023 SS, La Mesa, CA) showed off a quick arm on the mound and plenty of projection. He ran his fastball up to 76 mph but showed the best breaking of the game with a sharp slider 69 mph.

6-Red vs. 7-White Game Highlights

4/6/2019

Lucas Lees (2023 1B, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA) had two hits during the game including a hard hit double down the pull side line. Lees stays inside the baseball well while being able to torque through and create impact to the pull side.

Ny'Zaiah Thompson (2023 OF, Mountain House, CA) turned in a pretty stellar play early in the game as Thompson hosed down a runner at the plate with a throw that was precisely accurate and on time.

Carson Leclerc (2023 RHP, Palo Alto, CA) did a really nice job at limiting hard hit contact as he got a majority of his outs on the ground. The fastball had some short sink to it and he really worked it well to both sides with late life that allowed for weak contact.

Meshai Taylor (2022 OF, El Sobrante, CA) reached base twice on the afternoon, the first time on the error and the second on a double down the line in left. Taylor showed some bat-to-ball skills as well as excellent baserunning instincts as he stole his way to third base in the first and then scored on a passed ball.

3-Navy vs. 4-Orange

4/6/2019

Matthew Bates (2023 SS, Vista, CA) showed intriguing two-way potential with a physical frame, good bat speed, and upside on the mound. Bates touched 76 mph while also roping a triple into the pull side gap.

Lucas Casey (2023 3B, Murrieta, CA) has a lot of good hitter qualities with a loose swing and an easy trigger into the swing. The plane is smooth and he stays inside the ball nicely while he knocked in two well-struck singles during at-bats today.

William Myles Topham (2023 RHP, Cedar City, UT) has a large frame and touched 81 mph with the fastball. There is some arm side run on the fastball and the current arm strength is intriguing.

Isaiah Martinez (2023 LHP, Chula Vista, CA) has lots to like on the mound with a fluid delivery that he drives off his back well and a clean, loose arm. He worked up to 79 mph with lots of angle and showed feel for a sharp curveball that he could land and generate whiffs from.

Jacob Campagna (2023 C, La Jolla, CA) performed well on both sides of the ball, hitting a double in his first at-bat and also posting a pop time of 2.22 seconds. He gets rid of the ball quickly and creates strength off the barrel to the pull side.

Derrick 'JR' Bedford (2023 SS, El Sobrante, CA) showed pretty good defensive instincts while also collecting a hit on the day. Bedford also pitched on the mound but impressed most with his ability to move to either side over at shortstop.

Miller Durham (2023 1B, San Diego, CA) has a strong swing and generates some good bat speed from the left side, There's some two way potential as he ran his fastball up to 75 mph and has a chance to have big power in the future.

5-Purple vs. 6- Red Game Notes

4/6/2019

Carter Elliott (2023 1B, Yucaipa, CA), came out firing on all cylinders striking out the side right out of the gate. Elliot really reaches back in his delivery and sat around 81 mph with cut action on his fastball. He locates the fastball well and was changing hitters eye levels effectively. He also hit an infield single.

In the second inning Frank Estrada (2023 SS, Fontana, CA) proved that taking a fastball off the elbow doesn't effect him at the plate. After taking a batter off because of the hit by pitch, Estrada showcased his quick hands and strong bat path by firing a double into left and driving in two.

Ryan Cooney (2023 SS, Portland, OR) and Owen Egan (2023 OF, Yucaipa, CA) got the offense rolling for the Purple by lacing back to back doubles in the third. Cooney was also throwing 78 mph on the mound and struck out four of he six batters that he faced.

Batting Practice Highlights

4/6/2019

Isaiah Martinez (2023 LHP, Chula Vista, CA) is listed as a primary lefthanded pitcher but he also took a nice round of batting practice. With strength to his hands, the young lefthanded bat showed a repeated swing with a handle for the barrel as he worked to all parts of the field.

Miller Durham (2023 1B, San Diego, CA) is another strong bodied lefthanded stick from the Navy team who showed some lift to his swing path with a short stroke through the zone. He showed jump to his swing and will continue to find more pop as he creates better extension out front.

Lucas Casey (2023 3B, Murrieta, CA) put together a solid round of batting practice, showing balance to his swing with a fluid path to the point of contact. Casey was able to generate a good sound coming off the barrel with line drive contact and extension out front while repeating his mechanics well.

Wyatt Arellano (2024 C, Corona, CA) is currently in his seventh grade year but his round still stood out amongst the Orange team. With strength to his frame he shows nice quickness to his hands, working to the middle of the field and projects as he continues to shorten his path through the zone.

Carter Elliott (2023 1B, Yucaipa, CA) displayed some of the quicker hands throughout his round, staying direct to the ball while handling the barrel well prior to the point of contact. He stays balanced in the box and repeats his mechanics while getting extended out front and generating back spin to his pull side.

Ethan Winslow (2023 C, Kingsburg, CA) showed nice quickness to his barrel through the zone, swinging with intent while working the middle and pull side parts of the field. As he shortens his lower half mechanics he’ll be able to unlock another power at present, already showing jump off the barrel when squared.

Owen Egan (2023 OF, Yucaipa, CA) took one of the loudest rounds of the day, creating nice whip to the barrel while producing hard line drive contact. He lived in the middle of the field throughout his round and impressed with his ability to impact the baseball consistently.

Aidan Espinoza (2023 OF, Huntington Beach, CA) begins with an open stance in the box and does a nice job of getting closed with his lower half while showing looseness to his hands and extension out front. He flashed strength off the barrel and projects, showing lift at the point of contact with occasional carry.

Frank Estrada (2023 SS, Fontana, CA) showed nice quickness to his hands and has bat speed that stood out for the Red team. With lift to his swing, Estrada found his plane as his round progressed and showed jump off the barrel when squared.

Manoah Chapman (2023 SS, San Diego, CA) is another young bat who did a nice job of getting closed with his lower half mechanics while showing a simple operation in the box. Staying short to the ball Chapman showed nice contact skills with hard line drives to his pull side part of the field, showing occasional back spin.

Christian Grino (2023 OF, Glendora, CA) utilizes a leg lift trigger for timing and also shows quick hands in the box. While he’ll continue to refine his overall mechanics, there’s plenty of quickness through the zone and flashed hard jump off the barrel.

Dean West (2023 OF, Woodland Hills, CA) is a young lefthanded bat who impressed with his ability to already impact the baseball to his pull side. With a short path West was able to extended well through the point of contact, creating hard jump when timed in the box.

Grant Govel (2023 OF, Rolling Hills Estates, CA) displayed nice quickness to his hands, staying compact with his swing throughout his round. He was able to create torque through his lower half and whip the barrel through the zone with carry coming off when squared.

Jack Bucholz (2023 1B, Phoenix, AZ) has a simple overall operation in the box and it led to some well struck baseballs throughout his round. Creating lift with his swing path he was able to utilize his physical strength and create carry to all parts of the field.

Miles Preston Ghossein (2024 SS, West Hills, CA) is one of the younger players in attendance but his abilities with the bat still stood out. He has quickness to his hands and showed the ability to back spin the baseball, lift the ball to all parts of the field with extension out front.

Marcus Galvan (2023 C, Chino, CA) shows a full path through the zone and did a nice job of handling the barrel. Staying balanced with his swing, Galvan worked comfortably to the middle of the field with line drive contact which was well struck off the barrel.
