Matthew Flores is a 2023 C/2B with a 5-5 147 lb. frame from Redwood City, CA who attends Woodside. Young, square shouldered frame with a lean and projectable build, has room to grow and fill throughout moving forward. Ran an 8.08 60-yard dash. Primary catcher, begins with a lower set behind the plate, slightly turn in crouch during drills, receives the ball out front and works into a longer arm action through the back, opens front side early prior to release. Fields the ball out front with a wide base in the infield, takes longer strides moving up the middle, young actions, shorter arm stroke on throws and strength will continue to develop. Righthanded hitter, begins with a bent knee stance with a high hand set and back elbow in the box. Loads hands back at start of swing, works on a linear plane through the zone, occasionally gets onto front side early with weight shift. Shows a full swing path through the zone, utilizes a contact oriented approach, bat speed projects with added strength. Good student.
