Batting Practice Highlights Part 1

12/29/2016

Myles Austin (2019 SS, Smyrna, GA) has a very slender and projectable 6-3/170 build and an early commitment to Alabama.  He has a very loose right handed swing with outstanding extension and the beginnings of some real bat speed.  He could really come on even further if he can get stronger.

Jack Scanlon (2019 C, Sloatsburg, NY) jumps out as a sophomore with his 6-3/215 build and the left handed hitter has big power potential.  He has a nice swing with lots of lift to it.

Tervell Johnson (2020 3B, Atlanta, GA) is only a freshman but he already has some strength to build on and a strong fundamental right handed swing.  He's a young man to watch carefully as he progresses through high school.

Joel Brewer (2018 OF, Tampa, FL) has big centerfield tools on defense but he'd be a top prospect with his bat alone.  The FIU commit has present strength in his 6-2/190 frame and lots of leverage and right handed bat speed to drive the ball with.

Cooper Weiss (2019 SS, Fort Myers, FL) was in the first group this morning and he was already at the field when the PG scouts arrived to set up, practicing his swing and enjoying JetBlue Stadium at sunrise.  He has a very sound swing with lots of present bat speed and is very polished and mature in his approach for a sophomore.

Carson Montgomery (2020 OF, Windermere, FL) is a freshman you'll be hearing plenty about over the next four years and maybe more.  He's a very good athlete with a projectable 6-1/180 build and can also hit.  It's an aggressive right handed swing with plenty of present bat speed to build on.

Danny Serretti (2018 SS, Berkeley Heights, NJ) is a St. Johns commit who is one of the rare young switch hitters you'll find with the same approach and same bat speed from both sides.  And it's national level bat speed, with some lift in it for future power potential.

Xavier Edwards (2018 SS, Wellington, FL) is another example of a switch-hitter with pretty much the exact same swing and bat speed and even results from both sides of the plate.  With Edwards, it's gap line drive after gap line drive every swing.

Xavier Bussey (2019 OF, Garner, NC) looks the part of a hitter with a strong 6-0/185 young build and a short high energy swing that packs lots of present bat speed and power potential.

Matthew Corpas (2019 2B, Miami, FL) has plenty of strength to gain in his 5-10/140 frame but he had one of the best approaches we saw today, was completely timed up from the first pitch and hit line drive after line drive to the pull side.

Angel Tiburcio (2018 1B, Wellington, FL) may have been the strongest player at the event if his batting practice is a measuring stick.  The ball exploded off his bat with outstanding carry and velocity.  Even though much of the FIU commit's work was gap to gap, there is one likely permanent dent in the left field wall from one of his line drives.

Roberto Pena (2018 3B, Pembroke Pines, FL) is another big and strong right handed hitter from the east coast of Florida who crushed the ball and will keep getting better.  He's a Florida commit.

Matthew Corlew (2019 SS, Lake Worth, FL) has a very simple and repeatable right handed swing that pretty much squared up everything his entire round with well struck line drives.  Follow him closely as he gets stronger.

Ryan Coscarella (2018 SS, Palm Bay, FL) gets every bit of bat speed he can get out of his 145 pounds due to his outstanding swing mechanics and polished and repeatable approach.  The ball is going to start flying when he gets stronger.

Payton Anderson (2018 1B, Johns Creek, GA) is another young hitter who is going to start sending balls flying when he gets stronger, only the 6-4/180 left handed hitter might be launching them over fences when that happens.

Batting Practice Highlights Part 1

12/28/2016

Josiah Miller (2019 SS, Tallahassee, FL) is a switch-hitter who really stood out from the left side with his combination of bat speed and power potential.  It's an easy, low tension swing with a good shift into contact and lots of extension through the ball.

Hunter Barco (2019 LHP, Jacksonville, FL) is a primary left handed pitcher but well regarded already as a two-way prospect.  He took one of the best BP's of the day, pulling the ball with authority and lift with a calm and easy approach.

Dylan Rogers (2019 OF, Spartanburg, SC) has impressed the PG scouts at many events with his hitting ability and power potential.  When he gets the barrel head out and looks to hit the ball hard, it really jumps off the barrel.

Brennan Milone (2019 2B, Woodstock, GA) has a hanging front foot load than many young hitters make the mistake of not getting down in time.  Milone does and creates lots of bat speed and projects well physically to get stronger.

Spencer Keefe (2019 SS, Canton, GA) uses a balanced and simple approach at the plate and stays short and quick to the ball for a 6-3/187 athlete.  He's going to keep getting better as he fills out and gets stronger.

Nathan Hickey (2019 C, Jacksonville, FL) is an early Florida commit and is an aggressive right handed hitter who attacks the ball with good bat speed and makes consistent line drive contact.

Gabriel "Lucky" De Zendegui (2019 SS, Miami, FL) has good present strength in his compact 5-9/175 build and a nice hand path to the ball.  He showed some pull power and the ball came off the barrel hard.

Benny Hernandez (2018 1B, Cedar Hill, TX) takes a full effort swing at the ball and there is no mistake he's trying to hit it long and far.  He has the strength and the shift into contact to create lots of bat speed, though, and should hit plenty of home runs over the next few years.

Dominic Flacco (2021 OF, Ormond Beach, FL) has a very nice swing for a 130 pound eighth grader, with a nice hitting rhythm that created consistent hard line drive contact.  He's going to keep improving as he gets stronger.

Jorge Figueroa (2020 2B, Southlake, TX) has a long and lean body and projects very well physically as a freshman.  He has some present bat speed and handled the bat head very well and should continue to improve.

Dayron Rodriguez (2018 OF, Coral Springs, FL) hit the ball as high in the air as any hitter in BP today, although as a left handed hitter that doesn't get you much in Fenway South.  If Rodriguez had been a right handed hitter, a few of him moon shots would have cleared the left field wall.

Michael Marin (2018 2B, Miami Lakes, FL) is a polished right handed hitter with a very fundamentally sound, low effort swing that creates lots of bat speed with little effort.  He's going to hit for a high average at this and the next level.

Adrian Figueroa (2020 1B, Miami, FL) really stands out with his loose and athletic 6-5/185 build for a freshman and he has an easy and loose swing that really impacts the ball consistently and hard.  Watch out in a few years when gets more physically mature.
