Saturday Batting Practice Highlights

12/29/2018

Fernando Fernandez (2020 C, Miami, FL) is a big 6-3/190 left handed hitting primary catcher with a chance to hit and hit with some power.  He drove the ball hard to all fields with good barrel extension out front and projects well physically.

Pierce Hanna (2022 OF, Vestavia Hills, AL) is a young right handed hitter with lots of physical projectability and some present bat speed that will keep improving.  He has a simple timer and was driving balls hard from the first pitch.

Sean Ambrose (2021 SS, Miami, FL) is a quick twitch 5-7/155 athlete with a short and quick right handed swing and very good barrel control.  He's also a Florida International commit.

Lorenzo Hernandez (2020 SS, Miami, FL) is a young and athletic looking middle infielder with a loose swing and the ability and bat speed to drive the ball hard up the left centerfield gap.

Connor Throneberry (2021 1B, St. Louis, MO) has an extra big 6-5/215 build and a short and strong right handed swing from a rock back load.  His simple, sound mechanics let his natural strength do the work of driving the ball.

Joseph Coffey (2020 OF, Winter Garden, FL) hits from a calm, tall stance and showed excellent timing in getting the barrel into the zone.  He squared up just about every ball while showing nice bat speed as well.

Michael Hopkinson (2021 SS, Mobile, AL) has plenty of time to add strength to his 5-11/160 frame but he already has some young  bat speed and some pop to the middle of the field.

Frank Elissalt (2020 3B, Miami, FL) is present strong at 6-1/190 and showed plenty of right handed bat speed and the ability to pull and lift the ball with authority.  He's a switch-hitter and looks much more experienced from that right side.

Kiobel Lugo (2020 SS, Boston, MA) looks much bigger and stronger than his listed 5-11/170 and it shows in his bat speed.  He took a very professional round moving the ball around the field and flashing the ability to turn on the ball hard.

Jonathan Velazquez (2020 3B, Miami, FL) has a strong young 6-1/190 build that has room to add more strength and a long and loose right handed swing that projects plenty of power when he can get to it.  He's a Stetson commit.

Edgardo Villegas (2021 OF, Vega Alta, PR) has a very low effort left handed swing that creates deceptively good bat speed.  He had a very consistent round peppering line drives around JetBlue Park with good carry through the gaps.

Josh Heath (2021 1B, Lewisburg, PA) hits from a tall left handed stance with a low hand load and has a swing approach to develop nice power in the future, along with the size and strength at 6-2/195 to make it happen

Jesus Pena (2022 SS, Miami, FL) is exceptionally strong for a freshman and has very mature hitting mechanics to go with his mature 6-1/190 build.  He has a chance to be a very good hitter in the future.

Brendan Roney (2020 C, Cudjoe Key, FL) has a very polished right handed swing and the bat speed to drive the gaps consistently.  He is a Boston College commit.

Dane Black (2020 RHP, Key West, FL) is a primary pitcher and Brendan Roney's teammate at Key West High School and has hitting tools, especially the power and separation he gets from a big and aggressive move into contact.

Anthony Priester (2021 C, Denham Springs, LA) has good strength for his age and a projectable 6-1/170 build.  His right handed swing is fluid and loose and can get the ball in the air and drive it hard.

Scott Edwards (2022 OF, Ft Myers, FL) is a local Fort Myers athlete with good strength for a freshman with plenty of room for more.  He kept improving through his round and did a nice job of showing his growing bat speed and potential.

Bryant Colon (2021 OF, Greenacres, FL) is a young right handed hitter with excellent hand quickness and solid present bat speed.  He has a chance to be an impact hitter at the next level after more repetitions and physical maturity.

Clarkson Shoaf (2022 SS, Germantown, TN) is very strong for his age with a projectable 6-2/180 build and has present bat speed with the ability to drive the ball hard and far to the middle of the field.

Trip Wilson (2020 OF, Belden, MS) stood out for his arm strength all showcase but he also showed next level bat speed, with a strong line drive swing from the right side that promises some extra base power in the future.

Konnor Palmeira (2020 C, Kahului, HI) came all the way to Fort Myers from Hawaii to show his tools and accomplished that.  The big and strong right handed hitter has a power approach and the bat speed to launch balls.

Brennan Jones (2021 3B, Gulfport, MS) stands out for his 6-3/195 build and does a nice job of keeping his right handed swing short and direct to the ball while creating bat speed and line drive contact.

Liam Moreno (2021 3B, Sun Prairie, WI) had some of the best right handed bat speed we saw all day, with a short and crisp right handed swing that pretty much barreled up the ball for all 10 swings.

Jobeth Diaz (2020 C, Fajardo, PR) is a big and strong right handed hitter with lots of looseness and present bat speed.  He showed the ability consistently pull and lift the ball with authority.

Harold Coll (2020 SS, Hyde Park, MA) has a commitment to North Carolina and part of it is due to his hitting potential.  He creates bat speed very easily from the right side with a fluid, strong and very consistent swing.

Aidan Arbaugh (2021 OF, Ann Arbor, MI) has a very nice left handed swing right now , with loose extension and some present bat speed.  Just wait until he puts some mature strength on his athletic 6-1/155 frame.

Rene Lastres (2021 C, Hialeah Gardens, FL) has an excellent 6-2/185 athletic build and hits tall from the right side with a short and strong swing that gets the ball to jump hard.

Salvador Alvarez (2022 C, Miami, FL) is a freshman with very quick hands at the plate.  He swings hard and creates lots more bat speed and power than one would expect from a developing 5-7/150 athlete.

Kendry Noriega (2020 OF, Miami, FL) is another hitter with very quick hands that create very good right handed bat speed.  He is a Florida International commit.

Kevin Figueredo (2020 1B, Miami, FL) is a big 6-2/200 switch hitter who has legit bat speed and hitting tools from both sides of the plate.   His left handed swing looks to have a bit more present power in it, but the right handed swing is strong and quick as well.

Tanner Knowles (2022 SS, Kathleen, GA) is a 135 pound freshman but he has excellent hitting mechanics and some present bat speed that is only going to grow as he adds some adult muscles over the next few years.

Cameron Neal (2020 OF, Tallahassee, FL) has an athletic 6-1/185 build and a solid collection of overall tools, including nice right handed bat speed and a short and quick swing path.

Jarrett Hutson (2022 RHP, Prosper, TX) has very loose and twitchy actions and at 6-2/180 for a freshman could get really strong through his teenage years as well.  He might have a higher hitting ceiling than on the mound.

Jimmy Hutson (2020 C, Prosper, TX) is Jarrett's older brother and he's very present strong, with a 6-1/205 build and the ability to get the ball to jump hard off the barrel when he's timed properly.

Jorge De Goti (2021 SS, Miami, FL) has a wiry and very athletic 6-1/160 build and is a very toolsy middle infielder on defense.  His bat is a potential plus, too, with a strong and whippy middle of the field line drive swing approach.

Yoel Tejeda Jr (2022 1B, Davie, FL) is listed as a switch-hitter but the 6-6/170 freshman only batted left handed during his round.  He has as high an offensive ceiling as any hitter at this event, with a smooth lifting swing and the bat speed to already hit balls to the deepest part of centerfield at JetBlue Park.
