Right-handed pitcher Ryley MacEachern (2013, Salisbury School, Sangus, MA) pitched two innings and struck out the side in the 2nd inning, to help Texas Orange defeat Vegas Gold 2-0 in Game 18 of the National Showcase. MacEachern’s fastball ranged from 87-89 and peaked at 90 mph.
Right-hander Adam Jelovic (2013, Parkway West, Town and Country, MO) also pitched two innings for Texas Orange. Jelovic struck out two batters and his fastball ranged from 84-89mph.
Right-handed pitcher Andrew Kelley (2013, Klein, Spring, TX) pitched two innings in relief for Texas Orange. Kelley struck out the side in the 5th and his curveball, which ranged from 70-74 mph, has depth.
Righty Connor Heady (2013, North Oldham, Prospect, KY), a University of Kentucky commit, threw one inning for Texas Orange and was able to strike out two of the three batters that he faced. His ability to pitch downhill helped him retire the side without putting a batter on base.
Outfielder Hunter Mercado-Hood (2013, De La Salle, Brentwood, CA), a University of San Diego commit, hit a single for one of the three hits for Texas Orange.
Third base prospect Cavan Biggio (2013, St. Thomas, Houston,TX) hit a double for Texas Orange and was able to score for one of the two runs in the game.
Catcher Nick Ciuffo (2013, Lexington, Charleston, SC), a University of South Carolina commit, singled in the 8th inning.
Right handed pitcher Tyler Mahle (2013, Westminster, Westminster, CA) a UC-Santa Barbara commit, pitched the first three innings for Vegas Gold, striking out one and allowing only one base runner. Mahle used four different pitches to help him throw for strikes.
Lefty Joseph Palumbo (2013, St. John the Baptist, Holbrook, NY) pitched two innings for Vegas Gold. Palumbo threw three strikeouts and his smooth delivery helped him throw an 84-86 mph fastball and a good curveball, which topped out at 70 mph.
Right-hander Severiano Romo (2013, El Dorado, Fullerton, CA), a University of San Diego commit, pitched a perfect sixth inning for Vegas Gold. His fastball ranged from 84-86 mph.
Righty Cornell Nixon (2013, Lassiter, Marietta, GA), a Kennesaw State commit, threw a perfect seventh inning in relief for Vegas Gold. His fastball ranged from 85-87 mph.
Left handed pitcher Nicholas Banks (2013, Tomball, Tomball,TX), a Texas A&M University commit, pitched one inning in relief for Vegas Gold. He threw an 83-86 mph fastball and a curveball, which ranged from 67-71mph.
Outfielder Corey Dempster (2013, Loyola, South Pasadena, CA), a University of Southern California commit, reached base twice and got the only hit on a line drive single for Vegas Gold.
