High School Preseason Top 50: 50-41 | 40-31

30. Puyallup (Puyallup, Wash.)
2023 Record: 25-6
Head Coach: Marc Wiese
Notable Prospect(s): C Kailand Halstead (Oregon St), LHP Michael Lejeune (Gonzaga), SS Mason Pike (Oregon St), SS Gage Thompson (Oregon St), OF Riley Sanoy, OF Noah Benedict, SS Max Hemenway (Tennessee), SS Brayden Landry

Coming off yet another strong season where they played for a state championship and won their 15th straight league title, this team looks primed and ready to go in 2024. There’s high end talent in all four grad classes, led by seniors Kailand Halstead and Michael Lejeune. Juniors Mason Pike, Gage Thompson, and Riley Sanoy bring dynamic athleticism to the roster. Pike, a top-30 talent in the country, will also be one of the arms relied upon this year. They also have plenty of talent coming up in Noah Benedict, Max Hemenway and Brayden Landry. The roster is solid from top to bottom as they look to claim their first state championship since 2017.

29. Huntington Beach (Huntington Beach, Calif.)
2023 Record: 21-9
Head Coach: Benjamin Medure
Notable Prospect(s): RHP Nathan Aceves (UCSB), SS Matt Hansen (BYU), C Trent Grindlinger (Mississippi State), 3B Ethan Porter (Oregon St), SS Linkin Garcia (Vanderbilt), OF Trevor Goldenetz (TCU), RHP Tyler Bellerose, 1B John Petrie III (Oregon St), SS Cole Clark, C Jayton Greer (USD), RHP Otto Espinoza (Ohio State), RHP Jake Frohn, 2B Cole “CJ” Weinstein, OF Owen Bone, 1B/LHP Jared Grindlinger (TCU), OF Tanner Brown (TCU)

Even with losing a first-round talent in Raffaele Velazquez from the 2023 roster, the Oilers bring back a talented core looking to run through yet another tough schedule. Nathan Aceves is in line to lead a talented rotation. Mississippi State commit Trent Grindlinger is one of the best defensive backstops in the country and will be an impact bat in the middle of the lineup. Speaking of the lineup they have one of the most potent in the country with power-5 commits up and down it. They have supreme talent in the older groups with some more coming in Jared Grindlinger and Tanner Brown both with a chance to impact early on in their high school careers.

28. Doral Academy (Doral, Fla.)
2023 Record: 24-7
Head Coach: Ralph Suarez
Notable Prospect(s): OF Michael Torres (Miami), C Alejandro Ludeiro (Lipsomb), SS Antonio Socarras (Pitt), C Hector Roca, OF Sebastian Berrios (FIU), OF Jadyn Nunez (UNC), 2B Gabriel Milano (Miami), OF Leandro Hernandez, OF George Pardo, RHP Marcelo Rodriguez (Arizona St), SS Kobe Carrion, OF Gavin Ruvalcaba

The Firebirds captured their first state championship in school history in 2022 and came two wins away from capturing their second in 2023. The return a veteran core that will be trying to avenge that loss from a season ago. The offense is littered with high end talent led by seniors Michael Torres, Alejando Ludeiro, Antonio Socarras, Hector Roca, and Sebastian Berrios. The list doesn’t stop there as they also have four top-500 talents in their junior class as well that will be key parts of the offense. On the mound they will be led by Jose Roig and Marcelo Rodriguez, both have experience in big moments. The offense will lead the way for this team as they look to get back to Fort Myers in 2024.

27. Cathedral Catholic (San Diego, Calif.)
2023 Record: 22-9
Head Coach: Gary Remiker
Notable Prospect(s): SS Anthony Perritano (USC), OF Elijah Selga (SDSU), C Michael Podstreleny (UC Irvine), OF Jack McWilliams (USD), RHP Trey Telfer (Indiana), 3B Johnny Rocco, SS Vincent Venverloh (USD), OF Benjamin Trey Gudoy (UCLA), SS Alex Harrington (Stanford), OF Hunter Harrington (Stanford), 1B Maxwell Stewart

Coming off a great campaign in 2023 that saw them finish first in the league, the Dons return a big chunk of their production from a season ago. They come into the 2024 season with high expectations as they can run out one of the top lineups in the state. They are led by a strong group of seniors, led by Anthony Perritano, Elijah Selga, Michael Podstreleny, and Jack McWilliams. They’ll get good production from junior outfielder Benjamin Trey Gudoy along with sophomores Alex Harrington and Hunter Harrington. On the mound they’ll be headlined by Indiana commit Trey Telfer. The amount of firepower in this offense should keep them in almost any game they play in this season.

26. Valley View (Jonesboro, Ark.)
2023 Record: 27-5
Head Coach: Josh Allison
Notable Prospect(s): OF Slade Caldwell (Ole Miss), RHP Lance Davis (Arkansas), RHP Eli Crecelius (Arkansas), C Lawson Ward (Arizona St), SS Andrew Gartman (Arkansas St), C Keaton Mathis (Arkansas), OF Owen Roach

The Blazers were a win away from winning their first state championship since 2021 a season ago and return the most talented roster in the state. They are led by top-20 player in the country and PG All-American Slade Caldwell. The offense boasts two other Power 5 commitments in Lawson Ward and Keaton Mathis along with Arkansas State commit Andrew Gartman. This offense has firepower that will be able to put up runs quickly. This doesn’t take away from their ability to pitch as they’ll be able to run out two dominant arms in Lance Davis and Eli Crecelius, an impressive one-two punch at the top of the rotation. Safe to say they are the favorites to win the state championship in 2024.

25. Houston County (Warner Robins, Ga.)
2023 Record: 37-6
Head Coach: Matt Hopkins
Notable Prospect(s): C Eli Stephens (Mercer), RHP Brooks Willis, 3B Kai Decker (Mercer), RHP Camden Cunningham (Georgia Highlands), LHP Carson Small (Pensacola State), OF Vick Gann

This program is coming off one of their best years ever, winning the 6A state title in 2023 with some impressive series wins over tough opponents. They lose a couple of the most impactful players in the state from last year, but they’ve got talented guys that’ll step up into important roles for this spring. Eli Stephens was already a heart of the order hitter for them, while many of the arms in this group saw innings in big spots a year ago. Vick Gann has been clutch many times too, and they’ll get tested early with playing in Hoover again.

24. Argyle (Argyle, Texas)
2023 Record: 35-11-2
Head Coach: Ricky Griffin
Notable Prospect(s): LHP Park Prater (DBU), RHP Hudson Emeterio, SS Colton Roquemore (DBU), 3B Micah Roberts (UL Monroe), LHP Baron Mannis (TCU), SS Grady Emerson (TCU)

Argyle fell just a single run short of winning the 5A state title in Texas last year, losing to a Magnolia West team who had one of the best arms in the state. Now, they certainly look to be the favorite to win it with a lot of talented players from that team back. They’ve got excellent depth in their upperclass arms with Park Prater, Hudson Emeterio and Baron Mannis, while Division I caliber hitters should make up the heart of their order. They’ve got the top sophomore in the country with Grady Emerson, the #1 ranked 2026, which is factors in big when you think of the depth that being able to start a sophomore brings.

23. Tampa Jesuit (Tampa, Fla.)
2023 Record: 27-5
Head Coach: Miguel Menendez
Notable Prospect(s): SS Noah Sheffield (FSU), LHP McCall Biemiller (Florida), RHP Aden Knowles (NC State), C Yvan Douglas, OF Jackson Thomas (Georgetown), OF Jack Clark (High Point), OF Dariel Pirela, OF Zane Pestalozzi (Campbell), SS William Burke (Florida Southern), SS Dean Spoto (Belmont), C Vincent Decarlo (NC State), RHP Christopher Hemmings, 1B Nicholas Deakin, RHP Reed Biemiller (FGCU), RHP Wilson Andersen, 3B Christian Sheffield, SS Kaden Waechter

It's really no surprise to see Tampa Jesuit this high in the rankings as they’re annually one of the best programs in the state, and often one of the better programs in the country. They fell just short of winning yet another state title last year, but a lot of the guys that contributed in a big way throughout that big run are back. They’ve got one of the state’s top hitters in Noah Sheffield, as well as a long list of other impactful and experienced senior bats, while their arms are deep with Power 5 guys like McCall Biemiller and Aden Knowles, as well as high-end underclass arms like Christopher Hemmings and star sophomore Wilson Andersen

22. Jackson Prep (Jackson, Miss.)
2023 Record: 31-4
Head Coach: Brent Heavener
Notable Prospect(s): OF Konnor Griffin (LSU), OF Cole Gideon, LHP Gardner Young, 3B Tre Bryant, OF Kevin Roberts Jr

This is another program that we steadily see in the national rankings as they rattle off state titles regularly in their classification in Mississippi. They’ve got potentially the best player in the country in projected Top 10 pick Konnor Griffin headlining this group and he can carry a team to a state title himself with his impact on both sides of the ball. He’s got good support though with a couple nationally ranked position guys in Cole Gideon and Tre Bryant, while Kevin Roberts Jr is as dynamic of a sophomore as you’ll find and Gardner Young has great stuff.

21. Alfred M. Barbe (Lake Charles, La.)
2023 Record: 39-1
Head Coach: Glenn Cecchini
Notable Prospect(s): RHP Landon Victorian (LSU), SS Owen Galt (Louisiana-Lafayette), C Presley Courville (Texas A&M), OF John David Alexander, RHP Myles Ledoux, OF Jordin Griffin (LSU)

Barbe is a household name when it comes to high school baseball and they once again find themselves in the group of the best teams in the country. They have lost some big names over the last couple of years to graduation, but if there’s any team that can continue to win games at a high level without a long list of superstars, it’s this one. Landon Victorian was an All-American and can beat just about any team on the mound, while fellow senior Owen Galt will be big for this group. They have more strong names offensively that give them a bit of depth, but it’ll be all about guys stepping up and carving out big roles on this team in ’24.

CPBL Showcase Scout Notes

Logan Cummins (‘26 ON) Silky op with big arm speed and projection. Shaky FB command early, 91-93 T94. CH is present plus, weapon vs both LH & RH hitters at 83-84. Good arm side depth to it. SL has some length to the mostly lateral action @ 77. #KState commit.#CPBLShowcaseWknd pic.twitter.com/7TdJ2neOv6 — Perfect Game International (@pg_int1) May 8, 2026 Logan Cummins (‘26 ON) Very intriguing athletic upside here, came out early a bit juiced up leading to inconsistent fastball command but settled in and started dotting. Ran the fastball up to 94 with running life. Changeup is ahead of the rest of the arsenal  in terms of quality, and has a parachuting arm side dive that gets frequent swings over the top. Slider is tight with varying length at its best it does have an extra gear to garner a late count whiff. Should fit nicely at Kansas State if he decides to...

Coppy's Corner: May 14 POY Deep Dive

John Coppolella
Article Image
Each week I huddle with Vinnie Cervino and Craig Cozart  to discuss Top-25 rankings and Players of the Week. In Coppy’s Corner, I dive deeper into these Players of the Week, providing analysis from 20+ years working in baseball front offices at the highest level.   Player of the Week: Drew Burress – Georgia Tech  I love everything that Craig Cozart writes, and his piece on Burress is as good as it gets (link). Craig does a masterful job of showing us how Burress has (not arguably) the best career college performance of any current player. The body of work is consistent and impressive, and Burress has one of the highest floors in the 2026 MLB Draft with above average or better tools across the board.  I’m not going to do a deep dive on Burress’ numbers because there is no point: they are really good, everywhere. I would rather talk about...

Across all three divisions, the postseason field is loaded with experienced clubs, dominant pitching staffs, and lineups capable of changing a game with one swing. Now, the focus turns from building résumés to advancing through regional play and chasing national championships. These antepenultimate rankings provide a final snapshot of where the divisions stand entering...

Tyler Russo
Article Image
Another week has passed by in the high school baseball season and with that, we have another edition of the National High School Top 50 to bring to you. Playoffs are rolling in southern states and we have reached the final 4 in some of them already. Each week we have new teams break in and this week is no different with three new faces inside the top-50.   The top remains almost identical to a week ago with the top-10 remaining the exact same with Venice (FL) leading the way as the No. 1 team in the nation. North Paulding (GA) swept Buford in an Elite 8 matchup in Georgia and move up a pair of spots to No. 12 in the country. Another big mover is St. Laurence (IL) who jumps nine spots to No. 13 and boast a 30-1 record on the year. Waxahachie (TX) continues to move up and are up nine spots this week to No. 32.   The three new teams inside the National Top 50 are Etowah...

College Players of the Week: May 12

Vincent Cervino
Article Image
May 12th Perfect Game/Player of the Week:  Drew Burress, OF, Georgia Tech  It would be hard to come up with an award that Drew Burress, the 5-9/185 junior from Houston County, GA, hasn’t achieved throughout his All-American career for the Yellow Jackets.  From being named the Perfect Game Freshman of the Year in 2024, to being a semifinalist for the Dick Howser and Golden Spikes Award in 2025, it would be a challenge for a mere mortal to live up to the expectations.  Burress has done that and more as he etched his name in the record books last weekend when he tied Georgia Tech legend Jason Varitek’s record for career home runs.  Launching round-trippers in each of their 3-victories against ACC foe Duke, Burress brought his total to an incredible 57 over his three seasons in Atlanta.  For the weekend, he collected 6 hits in 12 at bats, scoring 6...

Well, in what seems like the blink of an eye, here we are in the last week of the NCAA College Baseball regular season.  It has been an incredible ride and there is still much riding on these last series of the year as teams grapple to improve their postseason resume.  It will be a short week with most every 3-game set starting on Thursday this week as conference tournaments get under way early next week.  While they were given their biggest scare of the season and did see their 25-game Big Ten winning streak come to an end, UCLA (46-5) will remain the No. 1 team in the nation.  They were pushed to the brink last weekend by now No. 11 Oregon (36-14), entering Sunday for their first rubber match of the year.  They did find themselves down 6-1 heading into the bottom of the 6th inning before they came storming back with 8-unanswered runs over the next three frames...

PG Draft Top 400: Biggest Risers

Tyler Henninger
Article Image
The draft cycle is officially in full swing. With the college season nearing postseason play and high school baseball underway across the country, the board is beginning to shift in a major way. Over the past month, a number of players have significantly altered their stock, whether by continuing dominant spring performances or showing improved tools that warrant a jump. That movement was evident throughout our latest Top-400 update, which featured several notable jumps across the board. Here’s a look at the biggest risers from the newest rankings update. Biggest Risers Overall  Huge day at the yard for James Tronstein (‘26, CA). 3-for-4 which included 2 HRs, one to dead center and the other to straight away right. Now up to 8 on the year. Has been a consistent @PG_Draft riser this spring and is getting hot at the right time. #PGHS @PG_Scouting pic.twitter.com/6grT1zZ9lg...

High School Notebook: May 7

Cam McElwaney

Ryder Bell, LHP, Hamilton (AZ) Bell got the ball for Hamilton in the first round of playoff action and did not blink. The young left-hander tosses 6 2/3 strong innings with four strikeouts and just one walk. Bell faced some adversity at times with runners on, but consistently competed and found a way out of most jams. An athletic operation with intent is shown on the mound. Bell throws from a lower 3/4 slot that can create a tough angle. The fastball worked 82-85 mph with armside run. It paired well with a sweeper at 70-72 mph. Bell attacked the zone with both pitches often and landed the sweeper arm side consistently. The stuff has already shown it can play against quality lineups. Bell should be a fun name to monitor over the next couple years.    Cory Wuttke (‘27, AZ) hammers this out to LF for solo 💣. Multi-hit performance. Stays compact with strength at contact....

In Coppy’s Corner, I dive deeper into these Players of the Week, providing analysis from 20+ years working in baseball front offices at the highest level.   Player of the Week: Tyce Armstrong – Baylor University  Armstrong is a big man with a big bat that produces big power. Just the second player in the history of Baylor to reach 20 HR in a single season – if you knew the other one was Charley Carter in 1998, you get the gold star – Armstrong brings an impact bat that can turn the game around with one swing. Listed at 6’4 / 228 he is Texas-strong and has been tearing up the Big 12 this season. Armstrong spent his first three season at the University of Texas – Arlington before transferring to Baylor for the 2026 season. He had a...

High School Top 50 Update: May 6

Tyler Russo
Article Image
Another week of high school baseball has come and gone across the country, and we have another update as we continue to roll to the finish of the high school seasons in the southern states in just a few weeks. Regular seasons are wrapping up across the country and playoffs are deep in progress down south, with every update there’s some movement inside the High School Top 50 along with a few new names breaking in. The top-10 remains very similar at the top with Venice (FL) holding onto the No. 1 position for the third straight update. Tomball (TX) jumps up to No. 2 as they continue to rattle of wins with Orange Lutheran (CA), Aledo (TX), and IMG Academy (FL) rounding out the top 5. Trinity (KY) and Harvard-Westlake (CA) sit at No. 6 and No. 7 respectively with a trio of new teams inside the top-10 in Magnolia Heights (MS) at No. 8, Norco (CA) at No. 9, and South Walton (FL) and No....
