High School Top 50: 40-31

High School Preseason Top 50: 50-41

40. Cherokee Bluff (Flowery Branch, Ga.)
2023 Record:
28-5
Head Coach: Jeremy Kemp
Notable Prospect(s): SS Jacob Vokal (Davidson), OF Ty Corbin, C Caleb Miele, OF Kaden(KT) Thompson (Georgia Southern), RHP Tucker Holton (East Tenn St), LHP Gabe Gowder (Georgia State), SS Landon Kemp, SS Bubba Coleman (LSU), SS Ethan England (Georgia Southern), C Beau Bruns

Cherokee Bluff exploded onto the national scene as they started the 2023 campaign rattling off 20 wins in a row to start the year. They return a good core that will be looking to make a deep run in the playoffs this year. The offense has the makings of one of the best in the state with a trio of seniors in Jacob Vokal, Ty Corbin and Caleb Miele. The underclass group is just as talented with Kaden(KT) Thompson and Landon Kemp along new addition in sophomore Bubba Coleman. On the mound they will be led by Georgia State commit Gabe Gowder and right-hander Tucker Holton, both who have good stuff and are more than capable of leading the staff. This will be an exciting team to follow for the year that will be able to put up big run totals in 2024.

39. Oxford (Oxford, Ala.)
2023 Record:
37-7
Head Coach: Travis Janssen
Notable Prospect(s): SS Carter Johnson (Alabama), OF Rj Brooks (Jacksonville St), RHP Eli Bozeman, OF Nick Richardson (South Alabama), C Hudson Gilman

The 2023 season for the Yellow Jackets was a season full big moments as they won the PG High School Showdown and followed that up winning the 6A state championship. They come into the 2024 season with another talent filled roster headlined by top-30 player in the class in Carter Johnson. Jacksonville State commit RJ Brooks will patrol the outfield along with South Alabama commit Nick Richardson. On the mound they will be led by junior Eli Bozeman who has been up to 90 mph. They will be looking to follow up their dominant season a year ago with another deep run.

38. Archbishop Spalding (Severn, Md.)
2023 Record:
22-6-1
Head Coach: Joe Palumbo
Notable Prospect(s): RHP Jake Yeager (Maryland), RHP Nathan Wines (East Carolina), RHP Brayden Robinson (West Virginia), RHP Peyton Mamula (Maryland), C Jack McNally, SS Braeden Martin, C Cruz Luna, SS Anthony Badillo

Archbishop Spalding has become one of the primary powerhouses in the country, winning back-to-back state titles and five since 2014. They return one of the top rotations in the nation, led by PG All-American Jake Yeager who has supreme stuff. Nathan Wines, an East Carolina commit, burst onto the scene in the fall giving them a strong one-two punch at the top of the rotation. Rounding out the staff is Brayden Robinson and Peyton Mamula. Jack McNally will control the staff behind the plate and will be a key bat for them as well. Sophomores Braeden Martin and Cruz Luna will be key figures on the offensive side too. They’ll be looking to go back-to-back-to-back and with this roster, they have a really good chance of doing it.

37. Northville (Northville, Mich.)
2023 Record:
31-5
Head Coach: John Kostrzewa
Notable Prospect(s): OF Dante Nori (Mississippi St), LHP Joseph Broughton (Pitt), RHP Justin Brown (Michigan), RHP Dominic Minghine (University of Illinois-Chicago), RHP Caden Besco, C Trevor Schueller

Northville has kicked it into another gear in the last two seasons as they’ve rattled off back-to-back 30-win seasons and are hoping this team brings home the first state championship in school history. They come into the year with a top-10 talent in the country in Dante Nori who will lead the offense. Catcher Trevor Schueller will be another bat that’s relied upon along with controlling one of the top staffs in the state. The depth on the mound is impressive, led by Pittsburgh commit Joseph Boughton. Three more seniors round out the staff in Justin Brown, Dominic Minghine and Caden Besco, giving them lots of options with tons of experience under their belt. This is a veteran group that are looking to continue their dominance over the last two years.

36. JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.)
2023 Record:
24-9
Head Coach: Brett Kay
Notable Prospect(s): RHP Matthew Champion, RHP Adrian Nunez, C Charlie Caruso (Northwestern), SS Jordan Marian (UCSB), RHP Josh Hollis (Oregon), RHP Thomas Gonzales (San Diego), SS Cole Strane (USC), C Owen Capron, RHP Gavin Flores, OF Takashi Rutherford, SS Marcus Greis (TCU), RHP Corwin Allard, RHP Aidan Kent, C Ayden Coleman

JSerra Catholic is a powerhouse program on the west coast with talent up and down the roster each year and 2024 is no exception. Coming off of a second consecutive D-1 title, they’ll be looking to do so yet again this year. Matthew Champion is set to lead the staff along with Adrian Nunez, Josh Hollis and Thomas Gonzales. The offense will be led by Charlie Caruso and Jordan Marian along with contributions from some younger players in Takashi Rutherford and Marcus Greis. This is a deep roster with high end talent all across it which puts them in great position for the upcoming season.

35. Wesleyan Christian Academy (High Point, N.C.)
2023 Record:
17-6
Head Coach: Maurice Blakeney
Notable Prospect(s): OF Sawyer Black (Liberty), RHP Hudson Lance (Coastal Carolina), RHP Josh Hammond (Wake Forest), RHP Sam Cozart, OF Domaine Vann (Miami), 3B Nick Papciak (Campbell)

There were some bright spots for this team in 2023, but when you look at this group that should lead them on both sides of the ball this year, they look primed to dominate the schedule they face in 2024. They’re headlined by a group of arms that is tough to match with senior Hudson Lance and the junior duo of Josh Hammond and Sam Cozart, both of which are Top 25 players in the entire 2025 class. Sawyer Black is a core of the lineup bat, Domaine Vann is a dynamic athlete and Nick Papciak is another who brings good things.

34. Valley Christian (San Jose, Calif.)
2023 Record:
31-4
Head Coach: John Diatte
Notable Prospect(s): OF Tatum Marsh (Stanford), OF Brock Ketelsen (Stanford), C Jordan Ortiz (LMU), OF Quinten Marsh (Stanford), RHP Rohan Kasanagottu (USC), RHP Kole Laubach, OF Hunter Kenji Fujimoto (Santa Clara)

They fell just short of taking home the NorCal Division I title a year ago, and they’ll have to replace a decent bit of graduated production, but this group has a lot of hype around them and looks like they may be the team to beat in Northern California. The Marsh brothers can impact the game in a number of ways, both with another year under their belt, while they’ve got some depth in their older guys on the offensive end. Their junior arms will have to step up into key roles on the staff, but they’ve got enough talent to win a ton of games this year.

33. Cartersville (Cartersville, Ga.)
2023 Record:
32-4
Head Coach: Kyle Tucker
Notable Prospect(s): C Caleb Daniel (Georgia), SS Aidan Larkin (Kentucky), RHP Ryan Johnson (Georgia), RHP Sawyer Wilson (Kennesaw St), LHP Avery Shiflett (Georgia), SS Andrew Purdy (Alabama), RHP Nate Russell, C Cole Crawford

Cartersville lost just two games in the regular season a year ago, both against good teams in the PG High School Showdown, before narrowly losing a few rounds into the playoffs. A lot of the guys that made contributions to that impressive season are back this year as the roster look great and will be talked about with Loganville as a serious state title contender. Caleb Daniel and Aidan Larkin are two SEC committed senior hitters, while Andrew Purdy adds another as a junior. They’ve got Division I talent on the mound too with Ryan Johnson, Sawyer Wilson and Avery Shiflett, all of which can headline a staff and log strong innings.

32. St. John’s College (Washington, D.C.)
2023 Record:
30-1-1
Head Coach: Mark Gibbs
Notable Prospect(s): SS Colin Gibbs (Maryland), OF Adam Troch (Duke), SS Marcus Martin (High Point), RHP Hayden Kalisz (Alabama), OF Breyden Ruiz-Weiss (Yale), RHP Benjamin Christine (East Tenn St), RHP Clayton Armah (Auburn), OF Nate Hawton-Henley (Maryland), RHP Ren Devereux (Penn St), RHP Sean McCabe (College of Charleston), SS Gavin Weber

This program lost just a single game a year ago on their way to winning their conference and finishing the year nationally ranked across the board. This year, it’s another deep group with a ton of experience in terms of at-bats, innings and winning games. They’ve got a ton of hitters that are gonna play at the next level, including Power 5 guys like Colin Gibbs, Adam Troch and Nate Hawton-Henley, among future others, while the depth of their arms is at both the senior and junior level with Hayden Kalisz and Clayon Armah both SEC commits.

31. Johnson (San Antonio, Texas)
2023 Record:
33-7-2
Head Coach: Justin Lozano
Notable Prospect(s): RHP Tyler Walton (Texas), SS Kayson Cunningham (Texas Tech), C Masa Chilcutt (Texas), OF Ty Hawkins

It was a long season for Johnson in 2023, which is a good thing as they made a run to the Regional Finals before falling a game short of the Final 4 in two tough losses to a talented Westlake team. This year, they’ve got a similarly talented group and although the pitching depth may be tested, they’ve got some excellent hitters in the lineup led by star junior Kayson Cunningham, the top player in the state for the 2025 class. Masa Chilcutt is a rock behind the dish, a big commodity for this kind of schedule. The depth of this team will be tested in 2024, but any team playing in Texas faces the same.

DII/DIII/NAIA Rankings Update: March 25

Nick Herfordt
Article Image
Every preseason, analysts and voters pour enormous effort into ranking the small college baseball landscape — poring over returning rosters, transfer additions, coaching changes, and historical trends to assemble the most accurate picture they can of who will be contending when the postseason arrives. And most years, they get it largely right. But the nature of college baseball, with its massive rosters, unpredictable development arcs, and ever-churning transfer portal, guarantees that a handful of genuinely elite programs will slip through the cracks every spring. A team loses too many seniors. A key transfer hasn’t yet suited up. A new coaching staff hasn’t had the chance to prove itself. The voters see the question marks and leave the blank space, and then the season begins and the blank space starts filling itself in — loudly. As the 2026 season heads into its...

College Players of the Week: March 24

March 24th Perfect Game/Player of the Week: Quinton Coats, IF, Cincinnati The Cincinnati Bearcats (19-7) are on the cusp of the Top 25 and are playing their best ball of the season. The offense has been the driving force behind their success, and it has been incredibly consistent having averaged 8.5-runs per game. In the middle of it all, Quinton Coats, is on pace for a historic season both within the program and on a national level. The 6-3/225 infielder from Olathe, KS has been launching home runs at a record pace and opponents seem to be powerless to stop his onslaught. With incredible strength in his hands, Coats creates easy loft and in 5 road games last week he collected 9 hits in 20 at-bats, with 4 home runs, 9 runs scored, and he drove in a total of 9 runs as well. As for his pursuit of history, the modern day BBCOR bat standard single season home run record is 34, set back in...

The Georgia native possesses tremendous upside on the mound, working from a long and lean right-handed frame that displays projection and athleticism. Jones starts over the face before working to the belt and into a higher pronounced leg lift. He fires down the mound via a standard-length arm action and high three-quarters slot. Chubb’s fastball/slider combination and feel for the zone, with the heater showcasing run/ride traits and power into the high-90s....

College Top 25: March 23

Time flies when you are having fun and the fact that we are almost to the halfway point of the 2026 season, proves just how entertaining things have been to this point. In what was an ultra-impactful week on the national landscape, there are some clubs fading out of the limelight while others are emerging from the shadows and showing they are a force to be reconned with. Conference play always makes the big picture come into view and we are now getting a feel for who the true contenders may be as the grind begins. The UCLA Bruins (21-2) keep their stranglehold on the top spot in the land as they remain unchallenged since the start of Big Ten play and finished the week with a (4-0) record. The Texas Longhorns (20-3) did lose back-to-back games this week but showed their resilience by winning an intense road series against now No. 7 Auburn (19-4). Georgia Tech (19-5) also had a (2-2) week...

2026 Draft Board: Top 300

Vincent Cervino
Article Image
The 2026 MLB Draft class is shaping up to be one of the better in recent memory and, potentially, the best class in the last decade. It’s led by UCLA superstar shortstop Roch Cholowsky, a true five-tool prospect who’s the early favorite for 1:1. One of the most popular pieces of industry feedback when constructing this list was some variation of “Roch is too low” or “go up on Roch” and he’s the best college prospect since 2019 when Adley Rutschman (Oregon State, Orioles) was the consensus No. 1 prospect. Similarly to 2019, there’s a superstar Texas prep shortstop at No. 2, in 2019 it was Bobby Witt Jr. (Colleyville Heritage, Royals) and this year it’s Grady Emerson. Both Emerson and Alabama’s Justin Lebron would have been solid 1:1 candidates in years where Roch Cholowsky is not eligible and both have All-Star potential....

This week brings a new top team to the rankings as Johnson County (KS), on the strength of 10 consecutive wins and a 26-2 record, claims the overall number 1 spot. The Cavaliers have made 3 consecutive trips to the JUCO World Series and have the talent to make it back there again this spring. Florida Southwestern and Chipola have seemingly separated themselves as the most consistent teams in Florida. Welcome to the top 5 to the Gaston Rhinos who will be one of the first teams to 30 wins this spring. Pearl River stays as the top NJCAA D2 team and Fresno City stays as the top Juco team in California; both are coming off undefeated 2 week stretches. Welcome back to the top 25 to John A. Logan who is now 20-7 overall and have played one of the toughest schedules of anyone. And for the first time in several years welcome to the top 25 to the College of Southern Idaho, the Golden Eagles have...
