Northeast Dream Team & Top Tools

Regional Previews: Florida | Georgia | Pacific | Deep South | Texas | Coastal | Southwest | Midwest | Mid-Atlantic

NORTHEAST REGION (NY, CT, MA, RI, VT, NH, ME)

The Northeast Region features two PG All-Americans in hard-throwing right-hander Miguel Sime Jr and all-around standout Jayden Stroman but has a strong group of underclassmen, especially on the mound, to make easy to guess that they might have more in 2025.  The Region is also well-stocked with infielders and there are many power bats that couldn’t find a place on the team.

The most impressive part of the Region, however, might be the talent on the Poly Prep Country Day roster this spring, which features two elite level pitchers in Sime Jr and Justice de Jong and some serious national level talent across the middle of the field.  They start the season 15th in the PG Pre-Season Top 50 rankings and have an impressive national level schedule to navigate this spring.  Poly Prep is joined in the Pre-Season Top 50 by The Stony Brook HS at 50th overall.

C –   Thomas O'Connell (Sr., Salisbury HS, Conn.)

O’Connell is the top ranked senior in Connecticut and the 130th ranked player nationally in the PG rankings.  He’s a top flight defender behind the plate with above average athleticism and really took a step forward offensively in 2024, hitting .371-3-19 in 23 PG games and showing big power at the PG National Showcase.  He is signed with Virginia.

1B –   Michael Oliveto (Sr., Hauppauge HS, N.Y.)

Oliveto is a primary catcher but we’re going to hide the 6-3/185 left-handed hitter at first base on this All-Region team.  The Yale signee was outstanding at the plate all summer and fall at PG events, hitting .479-8-32 in 37 games including .615-2-4 with 5 extra base hits in 5 games at the WWNA World Championships.

MIF –  Jayden Stroman (Sr., Patchogue-Medford HS, N.Y.)

Stroman is the Region’s only All-American position player and is a three-time PG Select Festival athlete as well.  He has outstanding run and throw tools, having run 6.43 and thrown 96 mph from both the infield and outfield at the PG National Showcase and had a nice summer at the plate, hitting .310-2-21 with 16 steals in 34 games.  Stroman has rarely pitched in the past few years but is reportedly going to take the mound this spring and has been 93-95 mph in winter workouts.

MIF –  Aiden Ruiz (Jr., The Stony Brook HS, N.Y.)

Ruiz is a switch-hitting multi-positional player who is the top ranked 2026 player in New York and the 95th ranked player in the class nationally.  A 6.65 runner, Ruiz probably profiles best as a second baseman moving forward but also has a chance to stand out as a highly athletic catcher.  He’s hit.450-3-24 with only 8 strikeouts in 44 games over the last two years in PG play and is committed to Vanderbilt.

3B –  Nicky Becker (Sr., Don Bosco Prep, N.Y.)

Becker is a very athletic and projectable 6-3/180 infielder with very good speed and overall tools and is ranked 106th overall in the 2025 PG national rankings.  A right-handed hitter, Becker hit .456-1-31 with 32 stolen bases for Don Bosco Prep as a junior and has added 29-31 in stolen bases in PG play the last two years.  He is signed to join his older brother, Jeff, another left-side infielder, at Virginia next year.

OF –  Ryan Morel (Jr., Citius Prep, N.Y.)

Morel is an athletic center fielder with some of the best speed in the Region, including a 6.55 sixty to his credit.  A left-handed hitter, Morel also has some strength in his 5-10/170 frame to go with his quick twitch athleticism.  The 189th ranked player in the 2026 class, Morel is committed to Cincinnati.

OF –  Jack Roventini (Sr., Poly Prep Country Day, N.Y.)

Roventini has an interesting combination of speed and left-handed power in a smaller 5-10/165 frame.  He’s a 6.60 runner with a quick first step on the bases but also hit .517-4-16 in 12 PG games in 2024, including .500-3-9 at the WWBA 17U National Championships.  Roventini is signed with Villanova.

OF –   Carter Bentley (Sr., The Rivers HS, Mass.)

Bentley is a strong right-handed hitting outfielder with a big arm strength that has registered 94 mph.  He’s also a 6.70 runner in the sixty.  After originally committing to Virginia Tech, he eventually signed with Northeastern.

LHP – Brody Bumila (Jr., Bishop Feehan HS, Mass.)

Bumila doesn’t have a real national profile yet even though he is the 22nd ranked player nationally in the 2026 class.  He’s a 6-6/245 low-slot left hander who was up to 96 mph at his only 2024 PG event last summer, a 10+ mph gain over the previous summer.  A Texas commit, Bumila’s profile will certainly change this summer as he gets out on the national circuit.

RHP – Bryce Hill (Jr., Greenwich Country Day, Conn.)

Hill stands out as a 16 year old with a 6-5/215 build but stands out more for already throwing 91-95 mph with a low 80’s slider, as he did when he was named All-Tournament at the WWBA World Championships last October.  A Stanford commit, Hill resembles Stanford right hander Matt Scott, a potential 2025 first rounder, who is also an oversized from New England.  Hill is the 65th ranked player in the 2026 class nationally.

RHP – Kaiden McCarthy (So., Vermont Academy, Ver.)

McCarthy has a chance to join 2021 fourth round pick RHP Owen Kellington as the best Vermont prospects in the last few decades.  He was a 2023 PG 14U Select Festival athlete who currently ranks 15th nationally in the 2027 class.  McCarthy works in the 90-94 mph on his fastball and throws a upper 70s swing and miss curveball as his out pitch.  He struck out an absurd 69 hitters in 34 innings in 2024 PG play while only walking 11 hitters.

RHP –  Cole Raymond (Sr., Avon Old Farms HS, Conn.)

Raymond is a classic projection right-hander with an athletic 6-4/190 build and lots more strength to come.  He topped out at 95 mph at the PG National Showcase and showed a solid three-pitch mix with a nice slider and change up.  Raymond is the 150th ranked player in the 2025 class and is signed with Georgia Tech.

RHP –  Miguel Sime Jr (Sr., Poly Prep Country Day, N.Y.)

Sime topped out at 100 mph at the PG All-American Classic and flashed quality to his low 80’s curveball and mid-80’s change up as well.  The 6-3/235 right-hander continues to show improved feel for his dominating stuff and a spring full of strikes could be a big boost to his draft stock.  He is signed with Louisiana State and is ranked 27th in the 2025 class nationally.

UT –  Justice de Jong (Sr., Poly Prep Country Day, N.Y.)

A three-time PG Select Festival athlete, de Jong is young for the class and will still be 17 years old at the time of the 2025 draft.  He’s been a primary third baseman for much of his Perfect Game career and has hit .449-15-166 in 157 games in PG play.  But de Jong announced himself as a potential primary pitcher at the 2024 PG National Showcase, working up to 95 mph on the mound with an outstanding 77 mph curveball.  He is signed with Duke.

Northeast Region Top Tools

Best Hitter for Average: Nicky Becker (Sr., Don Bosco Prep, N.Y.)

Becker has already been getting lots of late winter talk as the fastest riser among the seniors in the Region and part of that is the continued improvement he’s seen at the plate as he continues to get stronger.

Best Hitter for Power: Michael Oliveto (Sr., Hauppauge HS, N.Y.)

Oliveto’s performance in Jupiter put him on the national map and he still has lots of projection remaining in his 6-3/185 frame and his left-handed swing.

Best Runner: Mateo Noto (Sr., Poly Prep Country Day, N.Y.)

Noto is a fast twitch and high energy middle infielder who profiles as a second baseman at the next level.  He ran a 6.51 at the PG National Showcase and his speed plays up due the energy and emotion his plays with on the field.  Noto is signed with Indiana.

Best Defensive Catcher: Thomas O'Connell (Sr., Salisbury HS, Conn.)

O’Connell’s lower half athleticism, quickness and flexibility are his best attributes behind the plate defensively and lets him excel with just average raw arm strength.

Best Defensive Infielder: Jayden Stroman (Sr., Patchogue-Medford HS, N.Y.)

Stroman has played some outfield in addition to shortstop but his athleticism is somewhat wasted not playing on the dirt.  He has outstanding side to side range and can make every throw.

Best Defensive Outfielder: Carter Bentley (Sr., The Rivers HS, Mass.)

Bentley has classic right field tools with his physical build and big arm strength but has the speed to potentially play right field at the college level as well.

Best Defensive Arm: Jayden Stroman (Sr., Patchogue-Medford HS, N.Y.)

Stroman has a cannon regardless of where you put him on the field and he can play just about anywhere at a high level.

Best Fastball: Miguel Sime Jr (Sr., Poly Prep Country Day, N.Y.)

Sime might not be the only prep pitcher to throw 100 mph this spring but he’s the only one who has thrown triple digits at the All-American Classic this past August.

Best Off-Speed Stuff: Justice de Jong (Sr., Poly Prep Country Day, N.Y.)

de Jong is already pretty polished on the mound despite his young age and relative inexperience on the mound.  His curveball is his out-pitch, with sharp and late biting action and plenty of depth.

Best Pitchability: Kaiden McCarthy (So., Vermont Academy, Ver.)

McCarthy is a strike thrower with feel for all his pitches and it’s rare to see any pitcher at this level, and especially an under classman, post the strikeout to walk numbers that McCarthy has.  At the WWBA 15U National Championships last summer, McCarthy struck out 15 hitters over 7 innings in 2 appearances and didn’t walk a hitter.  He threw 63% strikes in his 34 PG innings in 2024.

Best Multi-Sport Athlete: Brody Bumila (Jr., Bishop Feehan HS, Mass.)

Bumila is listed at 6-9/250 on his basketball profile and is not surprisingly a standout on the basketball court.  He averaged 22 points and 12 rebounds on the court this winter, with a notable triple double of 39 points, 17 rebounds and 11 blocked shots.

Most Likely To Make a Huge Jump in the Rankings in 2026 RJ Shields (2027, Venice, Fl.) Shields took some significant strides throughout 2025, especially on the mound. The fastball reached 95 mph in recent months and he projects well with great athleticism and a sharp breaking ball. Shields is also a left-handed bat with good thump in the stick. The Mississippi State commit shot up the rankings following a loud fall and looks poised to continue to climb. -KP High speed BP swing from '27 OF Gavin Ruvalcaba (FL)... #JrNational @Florida_PG https://t.co/OwU9I0u6eY pic.twitter.com/gjYZbmCPGE — PG Showcases (@PGShowcases) June 12, 2025 Gavin Ruvalcaba (2027, Hialeah, Fl.) Ruvalcaba had a very strong 2025 and looks to be continuing on that path. The Duke commit has plenty of athleticism and is very well rounded with good tools across the board. The stroke is smooth and produces...

Player of the Year: Asher Williams It was an incredible year for Williams that was rewarded with a trip to the 14U Select Fest, before some more impressive play in the fall. He came to the plate almost 250 times in PG tournaments throughout 2025 and reached base in well over half of them, hitting to a .500 AVG while slugging a 14U circuit best 12 bombs and driving in 113 runs. The numbers on the surface are ridiculous, but when you look at the high-level events he put them up in, it makes it even more impressive. Pitcher of the Year: Tristan Blalock Blalock earns this honor after a dominant 2025 where he struck out 85 batters in just 48.2 innings of work with a minuscule 1.58 ERA. This included several strong performances at many national level tournaments and showcases where he was able to bully some of the best hitters in the country. It’s hard not to fall in love with...

PG Draft: Gut Feel Guys

Tyler Henninger
Article Image
While we are nearing the turn of the calendar to the 2026 year, that means we are just inching closer to the beginning of the season for many high school players and college baseball is on the horizon. We are prepping for a reshuffle of the 2026 MLB Draft Board as well here amongst the PG Draft staff. But before we get to that, we sat down and have each picked a couple of players who are in the mix to get selected in a couple of different buckets.  We have prospects who could go into the Top 30 picks or so, prospects who could be selected in the Top 5 rounds, and prospects who could go inside of the Top 10 rounds. With the draft quite far down the road and a lot of re-shuffling to be done as these players play themselves into certain spots on the draft board, our scouts picked some players who fit into these “buckets” who are gut-feel guys. These are the guys that our PG...

Hitter of the Year: Landon Bonner The 2028 class saw many players from across the country take the next step in their development as they entered the High School ranks. There were huge performances from highly ranked players on the PG circuit as well as some under-the-radar guys who burst onto the scene. Landon Bonner came into Sophomore National as a Top 500 ranked player and after an impressive showing, left with all eyes on him as a rankings riser in the class. The left-handed hitting shortstop from The Colony, Texas, had a summer to remember with All-Tournament Team selections in three of his next four events culminating with a historic performance at the 2025 PG 15U WWBA National Championship. The Hebron High School prep went 20-for-24 in nine games for 5 Star Mafia 15U Black with four homeruns and 12 runs batted in. He also scored 17 runs and finished with a mind-boggling 2.500...

Hitter of the Year: Koa Romero is the Hitter of the Year for the 16u group, as he would come to every premier event of the summer and earn All-Tournament honors (Beast of the East, 16/17u WWBA, Jupiter) in every single one. Over 82 plate appearances, Romero would pump ten homeruns with forty two RBI and sixteen walks, good for a .378 average and 1.339 OPS. The performance on volume at the best events of the year pushed Romero over the edge here, as he’d hit a pair of homeruns in Jupiter (one of them at 112 EV) as an underclassmen and collect double digit hits in BOTH WWBA events with a combined six jacks over the two tournaments. It was a summer that combined performance and winning on the biggest stages for Romero. It’s a quiet left-handed swing that packs a punch. He would reap the benefits of his performances, earning a commitment to LSU and jumping to the #74 prospect in...

They dip into Mississippi to land one of the premier arms and one that’s stood out on the circuit for quite some time. It’s a fast arm and the athleticism certainly shines working down the slope. The velocity has continued to tick up over the last calendar year and reached into the low-90s towards the end of the summer. He’s confident in his changeup and the breaking ball is...

There’s a lot of talent throughout this 2026 class, filled with the big-name stars, to talent that spreads across the nation. It’s been a lot of fun seeing these prospects grow and develop over the years, from the days of watching some of these guys at the 13/14u days at events on the circuit, to now where they are all graduating seniors in 2026. There’s been new faces who have popped along the way over the years, even in 2026, where some players who were relatively undiscovered, have come out and made a name for themselves with a statement performance. Between the familiar and the new, there’s a lot of names on this list that are going to be quite regularly talked about on the circuit, and for good reason.  Whether it’s PG All-Americans or not, there’s a lot of names with superstar potential at the next level. We’ve got 14 PG All-Americans...

Finest in the Field: Class of 2026 | Class of 2027 | Class of 2028 These guys might just be entering high school, but they've certainly already made a name for themselves on the national circuit, especially with their abilities on the defensive side of things.  C: Xavier Rodriguez (Logansville, GA) Rodriguez is a polished defender with real arm strength behind the dish, while showcasing the ability to impact the baseball with authority to all fields evident by thirty of his sixty-five hits going for extra-bases including seven bombs. He handles high-level pitching extremely well, commands his staff and his offensive prowess makes him a true two-way asset. 1B: Cooper Knight (Buda, TX) Knight is a smooth operator at first base with plenty of range, fluidity and agility in his footwork around the bag. Best Game I Saw: The Dream NTL 18U vs. MBA Scout Team Murphy Jupiter always brings out the best, and we got fireworks from the jump. Turner Marshall gave The Dream an outstanding 4+ innings of work on the mound, holding a lethal MBA team at bay with Chance Dixon, Derrick Carter, and Ellis Appling providing an offensive spark out of the gate for the Georgia based boys. However, it was only a matter of time before the talent on the other side got going, as MBA erased a 3-run deficit in the 5th to take a 4-3 lead led by a Parker Loew HR. The Dream then took command again in the Top of the 6th, before MBA punched right back with a huge 5-run inning in the bottom half capped off by a clutch RBI single from Matthew Kerrigan, ending a wild sequence with tons of notable performances from two very competitive rosters. Best Tournament Performance I Saw: Surely someone has already brought this...

Nebraska Cornhuskers 2025 Highlights: The Cornhuskers were a difficult team to figure in ’25 as they finished with 33 wins, played just .500 (15-15) in the Big Ten but had some big wins at various times during the season and got hot at the right time. They knocked off then #16 Vanderbilt in the second game of the year, beat #5 Oregon State 2-out-of-3 at home in late March and then got hot at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha to win the Big Ten Tournament. They beat Michigan State in a 10-inning thriller before taking care of #4 Oregon, knocking off Penn State and then shutout #13 UCLA to punch their ticket to the Chapel Hill Regional. Head coach Will Bolt has now led his alma mater to three conference titles and three NCAA Regional appearances during his six years in Lincoln. No different than when he was a player, Bolt’s teams play with passion and toughness, this was never more...

Look not further than this class as it's loaded from coast-to-coast with elite defenders all over the diamond.  C: Brogan Witcher, Bakersfield, CA Our scouting staff got several strong looks at Witcher whether that was at the Summer Kickoff, Sophomore National or the Underclass All American Games where he showcased his strong overall skillset and especially his advanced ability behind the plate. His 6-foot-3,180 pound build looks like one that will fill in quite nicely and be that big and physical catcher’s frame. His arm talent is undeniable where he gets it out quick and runs it up to 79 mph on throwdowns to 2nd (1.84 pop). Besides the standout catch/throw ability, we’ve seen him frame/receive strong arms and block it well during...
