Finest in the Field: Class of 2026 | Class of 2027 | Class of 2028

These guys might just be entering high school, but they've certainly already made a name for themselves on the national circuit, especially with their abilities on the defensive side of things. 



C: Xavier Rodriguez (Logansville, GA)

Rodriguez is a polished defender with real arm strength behind the dish, while showcasing the ability to impact the baseball with authority to all fields evident by thirty of his sixty-five hits going for extra-bases including seven bombs. He handles high-level pitching extremely well, commands his staff and his offensive prowess makes him a true two-way asset.

1B: Cooper Knight (Buda, TX)

Knight is a smooth operator at first base with plenty of range, fluidity and agility in his footwork around the bag. Add-in a rocket for an arm, the ability to change slots and to top it off a leveraged left-handed stroke that has performed well across the circuit.

IF: Paris Head (Chicago, IL)

Head brings elite level athleticism to the middle-of-diamond with plus range, soft hands and quick feet. A strong arm allows for him to make all the plays, while a compact line drive stroke with plenty of bat speed exudes huge offensive upside.

IF: Peyton Lopez (New Caney, TX)

Lopez is a smooth defender with high level instincts and footwork. He ranges laterally extremely well, creates efficient angles to work downhill through the baseball and uses his plus arm (89 mph) to make every play. A refined approach at the plate, advanced barrel skills and the ability to create impact to all fields pairs well with the athleticism and fluidity he brings to the dirt.

IF: Jordan Leon (Northridge, CA)

Leon could probably be placed in a variety of positions amongst this list, as the #2 Overall player in the Class of 2029 has the ability to change the game on both sides of the ball. A primary shortstop, he moves well laterally with solid footwork and uses his arm strength to make nearly every play look easy. The switch-hitting California native brings an enticing offensive skill set to the table as well with standout bat speed and juice. To top of the superlatives to describe Leon, he has been up to 89 mph on the bump with feel for two intriguing secondary offerings.

OF: Macgraw VanWormer (Prescott, AZ)
VanWormer is the top-ranked player in this class for a number of reasons, but it’s how dynamic of an athlete he is that’s at the forefront. He runs at a high level and plays with a really high motor, which translates to his ability to burn to either gap in the outfield and make plays on fly balls that he shouldn’t. He also has a low-90s arm already which is a huge plus when it comes to throwing out runners. The defensive tools are as good as it gets for a freshman.

OF: Carter Nash (Moore, SC)
Nash has been a high-level athlete for some time and you know he’s good defensively when he wins the defensive player of the year at the Select Fest as an outfielder. He can get up to speed in a hurry and takes excellent routes in centerfield allowing that speed to play at an even higher level. The arm is coming along a bit, but it doesn’t matter right now when you can count on him to cover both gaps and make it look easy when he’s doing it.

OF: Evan Thompson (Gilbert, AZ)
Thompson isn’t quite the same explosive quick-twitch athlete that the other two outfielders on this list are, but he glides and handles the game as a whole at a high level. It’s clean footwork, solid enough speed in long strides, a good arm and he’s versatile enough to jump over to first base and even catch if needed. It’s more projection than current here, but he’s impactful when it comes to his defense.

UTIL Noah Jarolimek (Simpsonville, SC)
Jarolimek is another that’s been good for a couple years now and he does a lot of things well, like somebody thrown in the utility spot should. He primarily plays on the infield with a good glove and footwork, as well as a strong arm, but he can play some first base if needed, is athletic and smart enough to get into the outfield and make tough plays, and can pitch.

P: Macade Carey (Nokomis, FL)
Pitcher is always a difficult one to choose when it comes to talking defense, so siding with the athlete here is how we landed on Carey. He’s one that has catapulted himself to one of the best in the class over the last 8 months, performing at a high level with lots of strikes along the way, and he’s certainly athletic enough to go play in both the infield and outfield if needed.

‘28 OF Jakob Groeschel (OH) continues to impress with the bat on the circuit, picked up 2 2Bs in the first game today. Really athletic, went 4.4 on turn; easy to dream on all the traits. #MLKEast @PG_OhioValley pic.twitter.com/wOIwnGKnkg — Perfect Game Florida (@Florida_PG) January 17, 2026 2028 OF Jakob Groeschel (Springfield, Ohio) broke out at this event last year hitting a casual .909, and although he didn’t turn in quite the same performance, he hit a strong .462 with 4 extra-base hits, 5 walks, 5 bags and only struck out once. He’s a pretty dynamic athlete who can do a lot of things well, but the bat is the calling card as he just lives on the barrel and has no problem handling all kinds of pitching. Collegiate Player Report Database While there will not be any new faces in this weeks Top 25, there is quite a bit of shakeup as the season, somehow, becomes even more unpredictable.  There were several teams in the poll that dropped weekend series and, in some cases, registered losing records in the last seven days.  There is sure to be more chaos this week as virtually every conference starts league play and the race for regular season titles begins.  The UCLA Bruins (13-2) remain No. 1 as their sizzling hot bats led the way to a perfect (4-0) week and they swept their first Big Ten series of the year.  As one of only two remaining undefeated teams in the nation, the Texas Longhorns (15-0) jump to No. 2 before they open SEC play this weekend in Austin.  No. 3 Georgia Tech and No. 4 Mississippi State both (14-2) hold their spots in the poll after both dropped a...

The 2026 college baseball season is starting to reveal its early storylines, and across the Division II and Division III landscape a few programs have already forced their way into the spotlight. From the blistering start by the Pittsburg State Gorillas baseball that rocketed them to the top of the rankings, to the steadily rising championship ambitions of the Taylor Trojans baseball, the national picture is beginning to take shape. As we get rolling deeper into the spring here in the southern states, other states are only a few weeks away from their seasons beginning and some are even starting the day this will be posted. We’ve concluded the first major event on the high school schedule, the PG High School Showdown, and it was an epic weekend in Hoover. The event was littered with talent and these rankings reflect just that. St. John Bosco (CA) holds onto the first spot in this update and are being pushed by an IMG Academy (FL) team that’s 8-0 after winning the High School Showdown as well as beating two preseason top-10 teams in the first few weeks of the season. March 3 Perfect Game/Player of the Week:  Cider Canon, OF, Duke  The Duke Blue Devils (11-3) went through massive changes in the offseason, with a new coaching staff and heavy roster turnover like is often seen in the college game today.  That hasn’t held them back as they have kind of flown under the radar on their way to a tie for the most wins in the nation.  They won 4 out 5 games last week and Cider Canon was the driving force behind their offensive onslaught.  The 5-11/180 outfielder from San Marino, CA put together an incredible week collecting 9 hits in 14 at-bats, good for a .643 BA, scoring 7 runs, with 3 walks, 4 home runs and driving in a total of 10 runs.  After a successful couple years at Davidson College, Cider made the trip north to Durham and has fit right into the Blue Devil’s high-octane offense.  For the season, he is...
