Game Highlights Royal vs Green
7/28/2019
Tyler Hunter (2021 IF, Oakland, CA) made consistently hard contact in the barrel in three trips to the plate with nothing to show for it with a pair of well lined balls to centerfield in each of his first two at-bats and a hard hit ground out in his final at-bat. He also worked three innings on the mound allowing a single run one one hit.
Nick Skardoutos (2020 C, Hollister, CA) impressed defensively behind the plate not only with his quick release and accurate throws but in his ability to receive and block. Also went 1-for-2 at the plate with a hard hit ground ball infield single deep in the hole at shortstop.
Trevor Leon (2020 SS, Redwood City, CA) hammered two balls at the plate in a one-for-two effort, the first a hard-lined single to left field and the second a blistered lineout to the shortstop. Also worked an inning on the mound without allowing a run or a hit, while striking out a batter.
Kekoa Lopez (2020 OF, San Jose, CA) turned in a one-for-two day at the plate with a walk, including a deep opposite fly ball double to left field and added a run scored.
Michael Macias (2020 SS, Salinas, CA) made multiple nice plays in the field between second base, where he ranged deep to the middle of the field to nail a runner at first, and shortstop where he made a nice play charging a chopper up the middle, showing arm strength and a quick release.
Game Highlights Red vs Gray
7/28/2019
Zachary Enos (2020 C, Sacramento, CA) found the barrel three times in as many trips to the plate, collecting two hits, both singles. The first an infield single up the middle and the second a hard liner over the shortstop, he also added a run scored and a pair of stolen bases.
Elliot Lee (2021 2B, Dublin, CA) turned in another solid game at the plate with a two-for-three day including a deep RBI-double to left field to go with a single up the middle in his first at-bat. Not only does he show bat speed at the plate but is extremely quick on the bases, with solid instincts that were shown while stealing a couple of bases in the game.
Tyler McCuistion (2021 SS, Rocklin, CA) worked up to 88-mph on the mound in two innings of relief while striking out three. He also added a double over the third base bag to go with a hard pull side single through the 6-hole in his final at-bat. The explosive runner finished the day 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and a stolen base.
Logan Azem (2020 OF, San Mateo, CA) showed power to the opposite field with a deep triple to left field that also showcased his speed on the bases as well. Even with a slight stumble around second, Azem's speed allowed him to still reach third base on the triple to left. He found the barrel consistently with another hard pull-side ground ball in his second at-bat while finishing with a stolen base and a run scored in the game.
Daniel Hernandez (2023 RHP, Hayward, CA) collected a pair of hits in a two-for-three day at the plate, including and opposite field double to right-center and a single over second base, in which he stayed back nicely on an off-speed pitch to collect his second hit of the day.
Skyler Self (2021 3B, Fellows, CA) tripled and scored a run in part of a one-for-three day at the plate. He showed the ability to stay inside the ball and line a triple down the right field line in his first at-bat with enough speed to reach third.
Jamir Gibson (2021 SS, San Leandro, CA) hammered a couple of balls on the day, the first was for a 4-3 groundout but was easily one of the hardest hit balls of the game. The second was more rewarding and resulted in a double to left field, also made a really nice charging play at short with a quick transfer and release to nail a runner at first base.
Nicholas Spurlock (2020 LHP, Sugarland, TX) collected a pair of infield singles to the opposite side as part of a two-for-three day at the plate with a run scored.
William Wentworth (2022 LHP, Livermore, CA) found the barrel consistently with a pair of well struck balls that resulted in a two-for-three day at the plate, including a triple and a run scored. He also started on the mound, working four innings allowing two hits and a run, while striking out six. Wentworth has some projection, the arm works and he creates solid downhill plane consistently, with a promising cutter.
Batting Practice Highlights
7/27/2019
Tyler Hunter (2021 IF, Oakland, CA) looks bigger than his listed 6-2/175 and is one of the strongest players at the event. He's a right handed hitter who works from a very simple spread/no stride approach that maximizes contact and timing and has an uphill swing with plenty of raw power on contact.
Teague Drotar (2021 OF, Los Gatos, CA) is another tall and strong right handed hitter like Hunter who shows nice power potential in his swing, especially to left centerfield, although his swing approach is not as simple and repeatable. The ball came off his barrel loud with good carry in the air.
Kekoa Lopez (2020 OF, San Jose, CA) is a left handed hitter with a projectable 6-0/165 pound build and plenty of lower half torque in his swing to create barrel whip and bat speed. He hit the ball out front consistently with hard pull line drive contact.
John Paul Avila (2021 SS, San Carlos, CA) is 6-0/190 and creates good bat speed from an open and pull approach from the right side. He has a short and direct swing that will enable him to hit inside fastballs and flashed some pop when he got extended out front.
Bryant Gadison (2020 OF, West Covina, CA) has very fast hands that he explodes hard to the ball and created perhaps the best raw bat speed of the day. He still has work to do on his timing to make it more consistent but the ball exploded when he was on time and barreled up.
Jamir Gibson (2021 SS, San Leandro, CA) is a switch-hitter but had at least a grade better raw bat speed and better barrel control from the right side. He gets coiled and loaded well from both sides but his quick hands really played well right handed.
Jonas Salk (2022 SS, Fairfax, CA) has nice strength for a 2022 and plenty of athleticism that plays into a simple and direct swing with good bat speed. He was very consistent in making firm line drive contact to mid field and the pull side and looks like a high average hitter.
William Wentworth (2022 LHP, Livermore, CA) is a two-way prospect with a very projectable and athletic 6-3/180 build. He is a right handed hitter who swings from a low hand start with a power approach and plenty of bat speed and lift in his swing.
Jaron Nevarez (2022 LHP, San Ramon, CA) is another young two-way left handed pitching/hitting prospect and has an aggressive swing approach from the left side. He hit the only home run of batting practice when he really back spun a ball hard to right field and got outstanding carry on the ball.
Tyler McCuistion (2021 SS, Rocklin, CA) has lots of quick twitch in his game, including in his hands from the right side. He doesn't have much lift in his swing at present but made consistent hard line drive contact with a short and repeatable swing.
Logan Azem (2020 OF, San Mateo, CA) is a very aggressive left handed hitter who has good strength in his 5-10/180 frame. He attacked the ball hard out front and showed bat speed and pull power.
Game Highlights Gray vs Green
7/27/2019
Jonas Salk (2022 SS, Fairfax, CA) turned in a solid day at the plate with a pair of hard hit pull side singles as part of a 2-for-3 day at the plate. With an aggressive approach in the box and present strength to accompany it, Salk has the potential to excel at the next level. He showed the versatility to play multiple positions well, making several nice plays at various positions throughout the game.
Elliot Lee (2021 2B, Dublin, CA) shows quick twitch abilities at the plate and in the field. Finished the day with a hard lined triple to left-centerfield and added a run scored as part of a 1-for-2 effort at the plate.
Jaron Nevarez (2022 LHP, San Ramon, CA) worked four innings on the mound, collecting six strikeouts while surrendering a single unearned run. Also, Nevarez was 1-for-2 at the plate with a deep triple to left side of straightaway centerfield which was one of two really well struck balls at the plate, where he shows the ability to consistently find the barrel with authority.
Aidan Banuelos (2022 SS, Salinas, CA) collected a pair of singles, the first a hard liner to left field and the second, a hard ground ball down the third baseline, as part of a 2-for-3 day at the plate with run scored. He worked two innings on the mound to close out the game picking up a pair of strikeouts while retiring all six batters he faced. He showed advanced feel for his changeup and the ability to pitch off of the changeup with a fastball that created arm side run and slight sink.
Michael Nardone (2020 RHP, Gilroy, CA) was 1-for-3 at the plate with a hard hit RBI-double to left field in which he showed the ability to stay back on off speed pitches and still create power to the pull side of the field. Nardone also worked four innings on the mound, striking out six batters without issuing a walk or a run scored, allowing only one hit.
Trevor Leon (2020 SS, Redwood City, CA) showed some flashy defensive actions are a high chopper, attacking the ball from deep short, Nardone fielded cleanly and released a laser across the infield with an ultra-quick release and an on target throw to nail the runner. He showed the ability to consistently find the barrel with three well struck balls as part of a 2-for-3 effort at the plate, including two hard hit singles to the pull side and shows an above average run tool on the bases.
Rohan Sanganeria (2020 3B, Santa Clara, CA) shows present strength in a well built and projectable frame. Blistering a double in his final at-bat of the day, Sanganeria shows the type of pop in the bat that can get coaches at the next level excited about his power potential.
Red vs Royal Game Highlights
7/27/2019
Nick Salas (2020 SS, Bakersfield, CA) has really nice defensive actions, and made 2 athletic plays at SS. The Cal State Bakersfield commit also has a solid approach at the plate and makes consistent hard contact. He puts pressure on the defense with smart and aggressive base running.
Daniel Hernandez (2023 RHP, Hayward, CA) pitched 4 solid innings giving up only 2 hits. He looks comfortable on the hill for a young righty with lots of room to grow. He also had a line drive single to the opposite field during the 1st game today.
Teague Drotar (2021 OF, Los Gatos, CA) had a hard hit line drive RBI single to left field in his 2nd at bat. He has a smooth swing with present strength. He also pitched the final 2 innings to close out the game with a fastball up to 81mph.
Nick Skardoutos (2020 C, Hollister, CA) makes consistent solid contact at the plate with potential for power. He had line drive hustle triple in his final at bat of the game.
Rafael Vidal Jr. (2022 OF, Vacaville, CA) showed good skills defensively with a very nice outfield assist in the first inning. He also contributed at the plate with a hard hit line drive single up the middle.
