2-Columbia Blue vs. 4-Gray Game Highlights
1/7/2018
Dillon Lifrieri (2018 OF, Wilton, CT) had a solid day at the plate going one for two with a double and run scored. Lifrieri stays back on the ball well and has good plate coverage making loud contact when barreled up.
Diego Millan (2018 C, Carolina, PR) was one for two at the plate with a double an RBI and run scored. He showed good balance at the plate with a line drive swing plane making hard contact.
Edgar Rodriguez (2019 LHP, Miami, FL) pitched three innings striking out three. He displayed good balance on the mound with good arm whip repeating his delivery well. His fastball was up to 85 MPH and mixed in a 1-7 breaking ball at 72 MPH with some depth and flashed a change-up at 72 MPH
Yordy Cabrera (2018 RHP, Miami, FL) had an impressive outing on the mound pitching three strong and punching out three. He has a slow balanced delivery with an explosive fastball that topped 91 MPH with some sink and mixed in a curveball at 74 MPH, slider at 80 MPH and change-up that had sink at 82 MPH.
6-Royal vs 1-Black Game Highlights
1/7/2018
Brett Gonzalez (2018 OF, Rolla, MO) collected two singles in the game in three plate appearances. He showed strong hands making consistent hard contact with a line drive swing plane.
Erick Figueroa (2019 RHP, San Juan, PR) had a solid outing on the mound pitching four strong innings giving up two hits and striking out three. He filled the zone in his outing working his fastball to both sides of the plate sitting 82-86 MPH with cut action and mixed in a curveball at 68 MPH and change-up at 71 MPH.
Kelvin Maldonado (2018 SS, Santa Isabel, PR) had a good game offensively and defensively. He collected a double, stole a base and scored a run. On defense, he showed off a strong arm making a play deep in the hole off his back foot.
Erick Rivera (2018 OF, Salinas, PR) was one for two with a stolen base and run scored. At the plate, he showed a simple stroke with a quick bat hitting the ball out front and making consistent hard contact.
Elian Almanzar (2018 RHP, Apopka, FL) struck out four hitters in his three innings of work. He has an over the top slot with a whippy arm action and stays online with his delivery. His fastball topped out at 89 MPH with sink and mixed in a 12-6 curveball at 72 MPH along with a 74 MPH change-up.
3-Gold vs. 5-Green Game Highlights
1/7/2018
Connor Pavolony (2018 C, Woodstock, GA) showed off defensively throwing out a runner at second base from his knees displaying great catch and throw ability with plus defensive tools.
Dylan Smith (2018 RHP, Stafford, TX) pitched three solid innings striking out two hitters. He has a balanced delivery and arm works well with good arm speed. Dylan has a three pitch mix with his fastball touching 88 MPH, mixing in a curveball with good spin and shape at 74 MPH and flashed a good change-up at 76 MPH.
Trevor Candelaria (2018 OF, Durango, CO) was one for three in the game with a triple and run scored. He's a free swinger with gap to gap pop in his bat making hard barrel contact generating good backspin.
Gustavo Lino (2018 OF, Coral Springs, FL) had a good game at the plate going two for two. Lino has good bat to ball skills consistently finding the barrel making good contact.
Batting Practice Highlights
1/6/2018
Kevin Melendez Calderon (2018 C, San Juan, PR) is a big and strong 6-2/200 right handed hitting catcher with a loose and smooth right handed swing and he has the strength to make the ball jump. A little more use of his strong lower half and he'll be really driving balls.
Gabriel A Ortiz Abreu (2018 C, Ponce, PR) has an extra big and strong 5-11/210 build and has definitely learned to use his big lower half to generate bat speed. He's a straight pull hitter with a very short swing for the power that he is generating from the left side.
Ezequiel Pagan (2018 OF, Guayanilla, PR) creates lots of barrel whip in his left handed swing and has very quick hands getting the bat going. He'll keep getting stronger and fill out his 6-1/165 frame as he matures.
Anthony Donofrio (2018 OF, Massapequa, NY) has a very projectable 6-2/175 build and very good hitting mechanics that enabled him to square up almost every swing. A left handed hitter, Donofrio has an ideal combination of shift through contact and quick, explosive hands that are very well timed.
Roberto Cruz (2018 OF, Santo Domingo Oeste, SD) is a 6-3/195 Dominican who we are told will be eligible to sign on the July 2, 2018 signing date. He's young and a bit coltish still in his coordination but has present skills and bat speed from the right side and the ball comes off his barrel very nicely.
Josean Rivera Sanchez (2017 C, Patillas, PR) is another big Puerto Rican catcher at 6-2, 215 with the present strength to go with it. He's a switch-hitter who has tools from both sides of the plate, with a shorter right handed swing that promises more hard contact and a longer left handed approach that projects more power.
Adrian Figueroa (2020 LHP, Miami, FL) looks like a young A.J. Puk clone, with similar two-way tools as the former PG All-American. His next step is when he learns how to start turning the barrel to use the huge leverage in his 6-6/205 frame.
Mykanthony Valdez (2019 3B, Davie, FL) is simply one of the strongest players in high school baseball right now and does an outstanding job of exploding his hands into the baseball. He crushed some balls that got held up in strong winds blowing in from centerfield.
Joseph Encarnacion (2017 SS, Queens, NY) has a very projectable 6-2/175 build and a loose right handed swing that has plenty of present bat speed. He has natural flow to his swing and hitter's hands that allow him to adjust to pitches in different zones while still maintaining bat speed.
Connor Pavolony (2018 C, Woodstock, GA) is a Tennessee commit who will get plenty of attention from pro scouts this spring in the talent rich state of Georgia. He has lots of right handed bat speed and the ability to drive the ball hard and a long way.
Jason Thomas (2018 OF, Miramar, FL) looks like a prototypical top of the order hitter with a short and crisp swing that is going to maximize hard line drive contact and the ability to get on base.
Kyle Iarrobino (2018 RHP, Key West, FL) is a primary pitcher but a great example of what good happens when a big and strong hitter gets his lower half flowing into his swing. Iarrobino drove the ball hard from the left side from a well designed and effective left handed swing.
Jonathan Alonso (2018 1B, Clearwater, FL) hit right after Iarrobino and demonstrated another skill that many good hitters share; he was very aggressive and attacked the ball with full bat speed. At 6-2/205 with plenty of twitch in his swing, that meant lots of very hard contact.
Tyler Acosta (2018 OF, Barrington, IL) has a very busy and inconsistent front foot load he'll have to simplify but the Illinois signee has very quick hands and the ability to square up the ball hard to the pull side consistently.
Dillon Lifrieri (2018 OF, Wilton, CT) is a very strong right handed hitter and the Arkansas signee drove the ball hard when he got his front foot down in time. He's another hitter who is looking to max out his bat speed every swing and attack the baseball.
Nasim Nunez (2019 SS, Lawrenceville, GA) is best known for his defensive wizardry but he's also a switch-hitter with a quick and short line drive swing that will produce a high average in the future.
Erik Rivera (2019 OF, Caguas, PR) had one of the best BP rounds of the day, crushing line drive after line drive up the right centerfield gap with a very smooth and easy left handed swing that was very repeatable and very well timed. There was lots of talk today about where his higher ceiling was between the mound and as a position player.
Trevor Candelaria (2018 OF, Durango, CO) is a very toolsy athlete from rural south Colorado and one of his best tools is his right handed bat speed. The Davidson signee explodes his hands at the ball and is going to hit with some serious power in college.
Gustavo Lino (2018 OF, Coral Springs, FL) is a front side hitter who gets out front with good balance and has a quick and short right handed swing. He looks like a future high average hitter with some potential gap power in his young build.
Paul Nixon (2018 1B, Baltimore, MD) is still raw at the plate but he is enormously strong at 6-3/230 and has a simple and usable approach from the right side that will enable him to keep improving as he gets more repetitions.
Kameron Wells (2018 OF, Hattiesburg, MS) is another very strong right handed hitter with a potentially bright future in front of him as he gets more repetitions and learns to use his strength. He is part of an outfield at Hattiesburg High School that includes PG All-American Joe Gray Jr and nationally ranked teammate Dexter Jordan, an impressive collection of athletic talent.
2-Columbia Blue vs. 1-Black Game Highlights
1/6/2018
Cesar Valero (2019 SS, Calgary, AB) had competitive at-bats showing a quick bat and quick wrists at the plate going one for two with a single and a run scored.
Adrian Figueroa (2020 LHP, Miami, FL) has a smooth athletic swing and a quick bat displaying power potential hitting a double and scoring a run in the game.
Luis A Gonzalez (2018 RHP, Carolina, PR) had an impressive outing on the bump pitching three strong and striking out six. Luis pounded the zone working down showing a loose arm with a smooth easy delivery. His fastball sat 87-91 MPH with life and mixed in a 11-5 breaking ball with good feel and depth.
Erick Rivera (2018 OF, Salinas, PR) has an aggressive approach at the plate and competes every pitch. He collected a single in the game showing good bat speed and quick hands.
Greg Hollman (2014 RHP, Calgary, AB) pitched three solid innings giving up one hit and punching out eight of the nine hitters he faced. Hollman was very effective locating his pitches and keeping the ball away from barrels. He showed a heavy fastball topping out at 86 MPH and mixed in a 12-6 curveball that had good shape and spin to it at 75 MPH.
3-Gold vs. 4-Gray Game Highlights
1/6/2018
Miguel Soto (2018 SS, Kissimmee, FL) Collected two hits in the game. Has good speed down the line, puts pressure on defense. Keeps the ball up the middle with good hard contact.
Leif Bigelow (2018 RHP, Brattleboro, VT) Threw three solid innings to start the game. Gave up no earned runs and didn't allow a walk. Fastball topped at 82 with some sink. Mixed in a solid 73 mph slider and a good change at 77.
Erik Rivera (2019 OF, Caguas, PR) Closed the game out with three strikeouts in the final inning. Attacks with fastball at 90. Good 1-7 curveball at 73. Keeps the ball low around the knees.
Kyle Iarrobino (2018 RHP, Key West, FL) Started the game with three good innings. Gave up just one run on three hits. Struck out three. Has short running life to fastball at 87 and a good curveball at 68. Creates good angle with pitches.
Antonio Knowles (2018 RHP, Key West, FL) Three great innings not allowing a hit and striking out eight of nine outs. Has a really quick arm. Gets good bite with fastball at 89. Repeats everything well with simple mechanics. Has really good command of the curveball at 76. Also mixed in a changeup at 77.
Dillon Lifrieri (2018 OF, Wilton, CT) Came on for one inning, striking out three of three batters. Good fastball with short life and sink at 85.
5-Green vs. 6-Royal Game Highlights
1/6/2018
Francisco Reynoso (2019 SS, San Juan, PR) Collected two hits in the game. A single and a hard hit double past first base. Barreled the ball up hard in both at bats.
Pablo Sanchez (2018 OF, Cidra, PR) Had two extra base hits in the game. Is a fast twitch, quick moving player. Gets good elevation when hitting with hard jump off the barrel. Able to hit the ball to opposite field with pop.
Kyle Dentmon (2018 C, Rockledge, FL) Drove a ball hard to the opposite field past the defender for a double. Able to sit on a fastball and drive it the other way.
Francisco Mateo (2018 OF, Carolina, PR) Had a hard line drive single into center field. Uses a short quick swing to handle high velocity pitches.
Noah Bryant (2018 RHP, Pensacola, FL) Threw three shutout innings. Struck out six batters with no walks. Has some slight cut to his fastball at 83. Has a short curveball at 66. Creates good plane from a high 3/4 arm slot.
Ricky Apodaca (2018 LHP, Albuquerque, NM) Three innings pitched without allowing a hit. Fastball topped at 87. Good ability to mix in off-speed pitches. Uses an up-tempo pace with an extended 3/4 slot.
