2017 Top Prospects

Joseph Encarnacion  SS - 2017 - Queens, NY   Monroe College

Encarnacion made the trip down from New York and though one of the older players in attendance, he still offers physical projection on his 6-2/173 frame. Offensively he stayed short to the ball with with leverage out front while also showing a strong arm across the diamond, topping out at 88 mph.

2018 Top Prospects

Kevin Vargas  SS - 2018 - Las Mareas de Salinas, PR   Florida International

Vargas, a Perfect Game All-American, put his full skillset on display in Fort Myers and did so with ease as he ran a 6.76 and threw 91 mph with extremely loose defensive actions. He also swung it well with quick hands and showed a feel for the barrel in live action with tools that still project.

Connor Pavolony  C - 2018 - Woodstock, GA   Tennessee

Pavolony put his catch and throw skills on display in a big way in Florida by popping an impressive 1.78 and showing of his plus arm with a top throw of 85 mph. He's a Tennessee commit and shows solid bat speed from the right side with jump off the barrel when squared.

Dillon Lifrieri  OF - 2018 - Wilton, CT   Arkansas

Francois Castillo  RHP - 2018 - Chicago, IL   San Jacinto CC

Castillo has a power pitcher's body at 6-1/220 and a very calm and well balanced delivery that enables him to fill up the strike zone with his pitches. He was very consistently in the low 90's with his fastball, topping out at 92 mph, and dropped in his mid-70's curveball frequently for strikes.

Luis A Gonzalez  RHP - 2018 - Carolina, PR   Alabama State/San Jacinto CC

The tall and slender Gonzalez has seen his velocity go up by 9 mph during the last year and has put himself firmly on scout's radar. He topped out at 91 mph from a easy, balanced delivery and showed a solid curveball in the mid-70's.

Yordy Cabrera  RHP - 2018 - Miami, FL   Palm Beach State

Cabrera showed some of the more steady velocity of any pitcher in the event as he sat rather comfortably in the 89-91 mph range with his heater and did so with a quick right arm. He was able to create sinking life on his heater and showed control of a full three-pitch mix.

Kenen Irizarry  SS - 2018 - Guanica, PR   Miami-Dade College

Irizarry showed as well as any middle infielder with his defensive actions, putting soft hands and a strong arm (92 mph across) on display. He's also a projectable lefthanded hitter with present bat speed and a linear stroke through the zone with feel for the barrel. He's committed to Miami-Dade.

Trevor Candelaria  OF - 2018 - Durango, CO   Davidson

Candelaria, who recently committed to Davidson, showed well in all facets of the game, from his 6.65 60-yard dash to his big arm strength from the outfield (95 mph). His bat was just as impressive though with consistent hard jump off the barrel with solid bat speed he's able to generate from his strong 6-1/185 frame.

Anthony Donofrio  OF - 2018 - Massapequa, NY   Uncommitted

Donofrio has a lithe and projectable 6-2/175 build and plenty of natural athleticism to build on. His best tool this event was his left handed swing, which is quick and short and promises a high average and some gap power in the future.

Erick Rivera  OF - 2018 - Salinas, PR   Uncommitted

Rivera has long been lauded for his arm strength from the outfield and it was once again on display in a big way as he topped 96 mph with his best throw, tops of the event. Along with the arm strength though he also ran a 6.81 and showed strength off the barrel with his lefthanded stroke.

Kevin Melendez Calderon  C - 2018 - San Juan, PR   Uncommitted

Calderon is a big and strong 6-2/200 catcher who has a nice balance of offensive and defensive tools and has really improved over the last year. He's also a very good overall athlete who ran a 6.8 sixty.

Tyler Acosta  OF - 2018 - Barrington, IL   State College of Florida

Acosta performed well on both sides of the ball and did so both during drills and in live action. Committed to Illinois, Acosta did a nice job of spraying the ball around the yard while flashing pop of the barrel. He owns a well rounded skillset as he also ran a 6.73 60-yard dash and threw 86 mph from the outfield.

Ezequiel Pagan  OF - 2018 - Guayanilla, PR   Broward CC

Pagan is a loose and projectable outfielder from Puerto Rico who's full of quick-twitch muscle as evidenced by his 6.63 60-yard dash. He also threw 90 mph from the outfield with sound mechanics and offered loose hands from the left side of the plate with fluidity to his path.

Miguel Soto  SS - 2018 - Kissimmee, FL   Arkansas-Little Rock

Soto showed his speed very well, running a 6.5 sixty and also showed a nice set of projectable hitting tools from the right side with an aggressive swing and good bat speed that produced lots of hard pull contact.

Antonio Knowles  RHP - 2018 - Key West, FL   Stetson

During his three inning stint Knowles did nothing but pound the strike zone as he punched out eight of his nine recorded outs. With a wiry and quick-twitch frame Knowles put his arm speed and strength on display, running his fastball up to 89 mph and commanded his curveball for strikes, landing the upper-70s pitch at will.

Nick O’Day  OF - 2018 - Coatesville, PA   La Salle

O'Day was victimized by the weather in his native Northeast and lost all his baseball equipment en route, so it was a tough start to the event for him. He's a big and strong athlete who have been a consistent performer on both sides of the ball since his first event in 2013.

Dylan Smith  RHP - 2018 - Stafford, TX   Alabama

Smith, who is an Alabama signee, has a very projectable 6-2/150 build and is a good bet to add to his present 85-88 mph fastball as he matures and fills out. He already throws a solid curveball and change up combination, with his change up being an especially solid pitch.

Ricky Apodaca  LHP - 2018 - Albuquerque, NM   Howard College

Making the trip out from New Mexico, the uncommitted Apodaca showed nice potential at the next level as a two-way prospect with a loose swing and strong arm in the outfield. He brought that arm strength to the mound where he remained loose with his arm action and topped out at 87 mph. He also ran a 6.70 60-yard dash.

2019 Top Prospects

Nasim Nunez  SS - 2019 - Lawrenceville, GA   Clemson

Nunez made several high end plays on the left side of the infield that showed his athleticism and defensive skillset with big time athleticism, balance, and arm strength. He threw 93 mph across the diamond and posted a 6.43 60-yard on top of showing contact skills from both sides of the plate. He's committed to Clemson.

Erik Rivera  OF - 2019 - Caguas, PR   Florida International

Rivera topped his 60-yard time from a week at the Main Event with a 6.76 60-yard dash this weekend and again threw 91 mph from the outfield while topping out at 90 mph on the bump. He's a projectable lefthanded bat as well with present bat speed and strength off the barrel, both of which he showed once again.

Mykanthony Valdez  3B - 2019 - Davie, FL   Miami

Despite just starting his junior year Valdez was one of the more physical players in attendance and put that strength on display with big bat speed and leverage to his bat path, impacting the ball to left field. He's committed to Miami and fits the mold of a power hitting third baseman at the next level.

Glenn Santiago  SS - 2019 - Guanica, PR   Florida International

Santiago made his presence felt in his first Perfect Game showcase and his tools only project to improve moving forward. Already though he's an agile defender with a strong arm (90 mph across), ran a 6.40 60-yard dash, and shows looseness to his righthanded swing with solid barrel skills.

Jonnathdael A Gonzalez Maldonado  OF - 2019 - Guaynabo, PR   Florida International

A recent FIU commit, Gonzalez Maldonado continued to build off his strong performance at the Main Event by posting a 6.60 in the 60-yard while throwing 92 mph from the outfield. The young outfielder also showed fluidity to his hands offensively and projects well moving forward with physical gains.

Francisco Reynoso  SS - 2019 - San Juan, PR   Florida Southwestern State College

Reynoso has a very projectable 6-2/175 build and plenty of present athleticism as shown by his 6.69 sixty time and his 90 mph infield arm strength. He's a right handed hitter with a short, quick and very repeatable right handed swing.

2020 Top Prospects

Mario Zabala  OF - 2020 - San Juan, PR   Florida International

Despite being a 2020 graduate and a physical 6-foot-1/185-pounds, Zabala posted the top 60-yard time with a 6.28 and also threw 91 mph from the outfield. He's a young Florida International commit and shows nice power potential from the right side of the plate.

Adrian Figueroa  1B - 2020 - Miami, FL   Florida International

The 6-6/205 Figueroa has a young A.J. Puk's build and although he is listed as a primary left handed pitcher at present, he evaluated much better as a left handed hitting first baseman at this event. He has lots of bat speed and could develop huge power when he learns to turn the barrel on the ball.
