Batting Practice Highlights >>

9/23/2017 12:00:00 AM

Dax Dathe (2019 SS, Round Rock, TX) used a simple timing trigger in his swing and did a nice job of hitting the ball out front while showing lift at the point of contact. He worked the middle and pull sides parts of the field steadily with a short swing path and present bat speed.

Kendall Foster (2018 OF, Prosper, TX) took a consistent and loud round of batting practice from the left side, connecting for a couple of home runs over the right field fence while repeating his swing well. Uncommitted, Foster did a nice job of getting extended out front while staying quick through the zone with his swing path.

Jared Younce (2019 RHP, Round Rock, TX) is listed as a primary righthanded pitcher but the uncommitted Texas native also impressed with his lefthanded swing. His overall swing is easy and Younce does a nice job of repeating his swing through the zone with steady line drive contact while showing present looseness to his hands.

Another primary righthanded pitcher, Danny Glenos (2018 RHP, Suwanee, GA) took perhaps the loudest round of batting practice on the day as he launched multiple balls over the left field fence. Despite being listed at 6’5”, Glenos did a nice job of staying short to the ball while generating nice leverage at the point of contact with present bat speed through the zone.

Trevor Candelaria (2018 OF, Durango, CO) impressed with his righthanded swing, incorporating his lower half while striding on line and generating present bat speed with a full swing path. He generates leverage at the point of contact and connected for a home run while repeating his swing well with each rep.

Alexander Lopez (2019 C, Houston, TX) is strongly built at 5-10/190 and he incorporates that physical strength into his lefthanded swing well. With a full swing path and present bat speed Lopez is able to get the barrel through the zone with ease, steadily finding the barrel while impacting the baseball to the middle and pull parts of the field.

A primary shortstop, Christopher Benavides (2019 SS, Spring, TX) showed looseness to his righthanded swing with a full swing path and quickness to his hands. He did a nice job of getting the barrel to the ball and worked the pull side part of the field with consistency, showing a line drive swing plane.

Making the trip out from Maryland, uncommitted Brendon Davis (2018 1B, Laurel, MD) put his combination of bat speed and strength on display throughout his round. Staying short to the ball, Davis was able to generate loud contact off the barrel while putting a couple balls over the left field fence with back spin off the barrel and quickness to his hands.

Joseph Martin (2018 LHP, Comfort, TX), a primary lefthanded pitcher committed to Kansas State, put together a nice round of batting practice with an easy swing from the right side. With balance to his swing Martin was generates extension out front with his swing and shows a nice feel for the barrel with line drive contact to the middle of the field.

Staying short to the ball with a lower hand set, uncommitted third baseman Kevin Sim (2020 3B, San Diego, CA) put together a steady round of batting practice. Sim remained direct to the ball with strength to his hands and a line drive swing plane, generating back spin to the middle and pull side parts of the field.

Roderick Criss (2018 OF, Kansas City, MO) is a quick-twitch athlete out of Missouri who is currently uncommitted. Listed at 6-2/180 pounds, Criss showed a full swing path from the right side with a line drive plane, creating contact to all fields. He repeats his mechanics well and shows a handle for the barrel with line drive contact and carry when squared up.

Jared Lyons (2018 SS, Springfield, VA) begins with a wide base and high hand set before showing fluidity to his swing from the right side of the plate. The ball comes off his barrel well with some back spun contact, showing a handle for the barrel which he consistently got to the ball while working all parts of the field.

Scott Jones (2018 2B, Sulphur, LA), a Louisiana State University-Eunice commit, showed off his skills throughout the opening day, including with his righthanded swing in batting practice. With lift to his swing path and carry to the pull side gap, Jones showed looseness to his swing and looks to drive the ball at the point of contact which he managed to do well.

Rance Rosas (2019 SS, San Angelo, TX), who’s listed as a switch-hitter, took a solid round of batting practice from the right side of the plate while utilizing a contact approach from both sides of the plate. Digging in from the right side Rosas showed a natural feel for the barrel and displayed comfort working all parts of the field with looseness and quickness to his hands while repeating his swing.
