Recruiting Notebook: November 3

Kinon Bastian, OF, Class of 2027 | Colin White, LHP, Class of 2026
Commitment: Florida

Florida grabbed a pair of enticing commits for both classes, starting with in-state outfielder Kinon Bastian who has arguably the best bat speed in the box. He has a twitchy, buggy swing with huge raw power that is quickly being tapped into during the premier events. He’s a good athlete capable in center field, the bat and explosiveness tops off a big tool set and makes him one of the top talents in the entire country. The Gators later flipped an out-of-state commit in Colin White, formerly of Georgia Tech. The Powder Springs, Georgia native is healthy and has garnered plenty of attention this fall after his recent velocity bump. He’s 92-95 mph and has topped 96 mph with a banging low-80s breaking ball from a long 6-foot-4 frame and overhand release. He has some overpowering stuff and has put it on display with handfuls of big eyes in attendance. 



Rylan Alaniz, SS, Class of 2026 | Jackson Bryant, OF, Class of 2027
Commitment: Texas State

It is time to recognize the job Texas State is doing on the recruiting trail. Head Coach Steven Trout and his staff of excellent assistants have impressed. Associate Head Coach Josh Blakely joined by Danny-David Linahan and Brandon Gowins each have a part in grabbing some of the better ball players in the state. Alaniz was an immediate standout this summer and plays the game efficiently in every facet, simple as that. He can hit, run and defend at a number of positions but the feel to throw and ability in space at short gives him every shot at the next level. He’s a complete do-it-all talent. Bryant fits the mold of a middle of the order run producer with his right-handed power, it’s easy juice and low tension with an ability to produce backspin to pull. He fits in a corner at the next level and moves better than his size on paper gives him. The impact is loud and his feel to hit has taken massive strides this year and should only improve. Texas State is putting together classes that can have an immediate contribution. 

Samir Mohammed, RHP, Class of 2027
Commitment: LSU

The Tigers have been putting together the best classes in the entire country at all levels, it’s a train that doesn’t stop. Mohammed fits that mold and checks nearly every box you want at this time. He’s 92-95 and tops 97 mph with three pitches for strikes with a starter frame and strength that holds deep into frames. The fastball has the makings of a bowling ball sinker with its shape from release. His changeup is arguably the best in the class and just falls off a table and he can command a bigger 2-part slider to both sides. He has the combo of loud stuff and repeatability that has continued to put him amongst the best in the class.

Kaiden McCarthy, RHP, Class of 2027
College Commitment: Tennessee

A week ago, McCarthy would've been "just" another top-end prospect to commit to Tony Vitello and the Vols of Tennessee. Of course I say that tongue-in-cheek as the '27 class for Tennessee is ABSOLUTELY LOADED as McCarthy's verbal gives the class its 10th top-100 commit, but more importantly he's the first in the Josh Elander era at Rocky Top. Everything about the Vermont native screams front line start, from the athleticism in his operation, to his arm speed and overall pitchability, and of course, the actual arsenal. He's armed with a heater that has already peaked in the mid-90s and should continue to climb as he packs on physicality, though he already shows the ability to move the ball around to all four quadrants while mixing in a both a sharp slider and tight curveball, while turning over a changeup as well.


Will Brick, C, Class of 2026
College Commitment: Mississippi State

It's been quite a busy couple of weeks here lately for Will Brick, now a member of the 2026 class, as the announced his reclassing up a grade prior to becoming the newest Mississippi State Bulldog commit just this past week. A two time Select Festivaler and a PG All Star Game alum, Coach Brian O'Connor and his staff will obviously have to compete with the MLB Draft for Brick's services, but should he end up in Starkville, he's an absolute day one game changer with what he brings behind the plate and in the box, as well as to a clubhouse. He's an elite defender with his receiving and his catch and throw is as good as any in recent memory, though he's no slouch with the stick either, living on the barrel at countless high-level events. His commitment is huge for Mississippi State as he's a cornerstone piece that you build a club around and has the winning pedigree to match. 

Levi Leathers, 3B, Class of 2027
College Commitment: Arkansas

It's really not much of a surprise to see Arkansas landing a big, impact-type bat out of Texas and Leathers fits the mold of a future SEC middle-of-the-order slugger. As it stands Leathers is the club's highest ranked prospect in the 2027 class, which is even more impressive when you consider he's younger for the grade and would be perfectly fine age-wise as a member of the 2028 crop. Leathers' athleticism has long been on display as a two-time Select Festivaler and also his high school's starting QB, but it's the power he possesses and the ease of which he's able to get to it that should have the Baum faithful super excited about this young Texan. Pair him up with another slugger committed in Matt Meeker out of Iowa and this is a duo who could lose A LOT of baseballs over the wall in the years to come. 

Jensen Hirschkorn, RHP, Class of 2026
College Commitment: LSU

The 2026 class for Jay Johnson is simply getting ridiculous at this point as they landed one of the two final players with the top-50 who were uncommitted, pulling Hirschkorn out of NorCal. The Cali to LSU pipeline has remained strong as the Tigers continue to flex their reach coast-to-coast, while the commitment of Hirschkorn also gives the team its 6th Perfect Game All-American in the class. A hulking 6-foot-7 arm, Hirschkorn certainly doesn't make for a comfortable at-bat as he seemingly hands the ball off to the catcher in the mid-90s with real carry and finished the summer strong with a couple of loud outings. Again, the MLB Draft will be at play here as it is with any player ranked this high, but he also has the makings of a weekend arm sooner rather than later.

Caden Dawson, OF, Class of 2027 
Commitment: Tennessee 

This commitment is right around a month old at this point but is a major get for Tennessee as they continue to add onto another loaded group in ’27. Dawson has long been ranked near the top of the 2027 rankings and brings a dynamic left-handed bat to this class for the Vols. He’s an ultra-physical 6-foot-2, 210-pound outfielder with strength that shows up in game often. The feel to hit has always been an outlier and continues to shine each time out. He comes from a premier program in the state of Georgia with a pedigree of winning, something that isn’t uncommon on Rocky Top. With Josh Elander now leading the charge, the Vols haven’t slowed down in the slightest on the recruiting front and once again are once again near the top of the recruiting rankings in ’27.  


Kaden Wasniewski, RHP, Class of 2027 
Commitment: LSU 

Head Coach Jay Johnson and recruiting coordinator Josh Jordan have continued to stack just ridiculous talent in Baton Rouge and did so again, adding a dynamic right-hander in Wasniewski. It’s premium stuff already, comfortably working at 92-93 in Jupiter and has been up to 94 mph with big carry at the top of the zone. The fastball has elite raw spin numbers, getting into the 2700 RPM range and it just simply explodes out of the hand. He shows comfort going to a bullet slider at 84-87 mph and will also turn over a quality changeup in the upper-80s to round out the mix. It’s yet another dynamic piece to the #1 recruiting class, a feat that’s becoming commonplace in the last few years.  


RJ Shields, OF/RHP, Class of 2027 
Commitment: Mississippi State 

Mississippi State was on an absolute heater over the last few weeks and have multiple guys featured in this article alone with plenty more to be highlighted in the coming weeks. Shields was one of the more major gets as they dipped into Florida to land a dynamic two-way talent that had big performances throughout the summer circuit. He kicked off the year with a great showing at Jr National, hitting a bomb and throwing upper-90s from the outfield and once the fall rolled around, the stuff on the mound took a major jump and he’s quickly turned into one of the better two-way profiles in the class. Casually hitting 95 mph in back-to-back outings with all the makings of a legit three-pitch mix. It’s a dynamic profile from Shields that continues to pop in a big way.  


Cole Cinnamond, LHP, Class of 2027 
Commitment: Clemson 

Cinnamond was one of the breakout arms of the summer circuit and was a monster get in the ’27 crop by Clemson. It’s a workhorse look at 6-foot-5, 210-pounds with elite arm speed and excellent feel for a wipeout slider. The fastball sits comfortably in the low-90s, bumping even higher at times with life through the zone and plenty of angle created. Don’t let the big frame fool you, he’s a quality athlete on the mound and repeats the mechanics at a great rate. There’s also some two-way intrigue here as he casually puts up some of the loudest exit velocities in the class as well. Quite the get for Clemson as they now have four top-100 commitments in the class as they build another strong group.  


Malachi Butler, SS, Class of 2027 
Commitment: Georgia Tech 

There’s a fresh face on The Flats in Head Coach James Ramsey but they’re still rolling in the state of Georgia in terms of recruiting, landing one of the more polished shortstops in the state for ’27. Butler is about as good of a profile as you can find, a left-handed hitting shortstop that always seems to hit, is young for the grade, and is a great defender up the middle. It’s an ideal middle infielder frame at 6-foot-2, 185-pounds with great physical projection. He’s been inside the top-10 in the state for the better part of a year at this point and continues to check off boxes as a young shortstop prospect. He’s going to be a name for Georgia Tech fans to get excited about seeing in Atlanta in the coming years as the Tech staff continues showing off the recruiting prowess in the Peach state.

Jacob Lombard, SS, Class of 2026
College Commitment: Miami

Jacob Lombard, the number two-ranked player in the class, announced his commitment to Miami. A South Florida native and brother of Yankees’ prospect George Lombard Jr., Jacob brings an exciting blend of present tools and projectability. The 6-foot-3 shortstop profiles to stick on the left side of the infield thanks to quick-twitch athleticism and soft glove work. In the box, the Hurricanes’ recruit starts with an even base and high hands, working into a simple outward leg load. Lombard fires through a quick barrel with legitimate impact to all fields, possessing present strength and projectability. It would be a big win for Miami to land him on campus, as Lombard figures to be a highly touted draft prospect this cycle.

Steven Pannullo, RHP, Class of 2027
College Commitment: Boston College

Steven Pannullo announced his intention to attend Boston College last week, as the Eagles snag a high upside arm out of the northeast. The New Jersey native starts above the belt from the stretch, working into a high and compact leg lift before firing down the mound via a deceptive low three-quarters arm action. He works from a big and strong right-handed frame, possessing the prototypical “workhorse” build. Pannullo’s pitch mix starts with a run/ride fastball that has reached 92, producing whiffs at the top of the zone and when running in on hitters. He mixes in a tighter horizontal slider that features late two-plane bite, profiling as a swing-and-miss offering.


Anderson Lambert, OF, Class of 2027
College Commitment: Alabama

Anderson Lambert is heading to the Southeastern Conference, pledging his commitment to Alabama. A true up-the-middle profile, Lambert boasts a well-rounded blend of tools that includes a 6.9 sixty-time and 96 mph exit velocity. The Maryland native works from a medium right-handed frame with quick-twitch athleticism and strength, recording throws from the outfield up to 91. Lambert starts slightly wide at the base with lower hands, working to the barrel via an inward toe tap leg load. The Crimson Tide recruit then fires through a quick and compact barrel, showcasing legitimate impact, especially to pull. 

Brady Guzzie, LHP/OF, Class of 2027
College Commitment: Virginia

Brady Guzzie recently decided that he will continue his playing career at Virginia, bringing an intriguing two-way talent to Charlottesville. Guzzie works from a medium-to-big left-handed frame with lean levers pointing to projection. On the mound, the eastern Pennsylvania product starts slightly closed, keeping the hands above the belt, before working into a high and compact leg lift. He fires down the mound via a long reach back-arm action and a higher three-quarters slot. Guzzie has gotten the fastball up to 92 with jump from the hand, mixing in a deep 1-7 curveball flashing late bite. At the plate, the Cavaliers recruit starts even at the base with high and active hands, working to the barrel via a simple leg load.



Rocco Maniscalco, SS, Class of 2026
College Commitment: Mississippi State

Rocco Maniscalco reclassified from the 2027 class and lands at one of the SEC’s most recognizable brands in Mississippi State. A switch-hitting infielder, Maniscalco moves well on the dirt, featuring both athleticism and present strength in his frame. The Alabama native starts with a slightly wide base from both sides, keeping the hands high before working into a simple inward leg load. He then fires through a quick and compact barrel, doing line drive damage to all fields. Maniscalco’s athleticism, blend of tools, and projection label him as a high upside player. Brian O’Connor continues to pull high-level talent from all parts of the country, landing a pair of 2026 reclassifications in Maniscalco and catcher Will Brick.

Perfect Game Softball Battle for the Belt April 18-19, 2026 Des Moines, Iowa It was a cold and very windy weekend, but the girls still came out and put in their best efforts. If you wanted the place to see some of the state’s top talent, this was the tournament to be at. The 18u division was quite the slugfest! The Ankeny Centennial 18U -Kennedy team took down a tough Iowa Alliance Select-Benge team in the championship. Both teams had double digit homeruns on the weekend. In the 16u division the Iowa Aries CE Fire Black took control of the game from the start and never let up on the gas, taking down a solid Alliance Select- Harper team. 18U Division Kori Lincicum (2026 Ankeny, IA) of the Centennial Jaguars- Kennedy and Drake Bulldog softball commit was the weekends MVP Pitcher. April 21st Perfect Game/Player of the Week:  Tague Davis, IF, Louisville  The Louisville Cardinals (22-18) haven’t been able to get themselves in much of a groove this spring, their longest winning streak is 5-games, and they are (4-6) in their last 10-games.  The issue has not been the offense as the Cardinals are averaging over 8-runs per game and Tague Davis is leading the club in virtually every offensive category.  His calling card is his 70-grade power and that was on display last weekend in their series against Cal.  In the three-game series, Davis went 7 for 12, scoring 4 runs, launching 5 home runs and collected 7 RBIs.  The 6-4/220 lefthanded hitter from West Chester, PA has a pure stroke, is one of the premier power hitters in the nation and has significantly improved his plate discipline from a year ago.  After his big weekend, he is...

As the old saying goes, “all good things must come to an end” and that was the case last Tuesday when UCLA (36-3) saw their 27-game win streak come to an end in a shutout loss to UCSB.  However, the No. 1 team in the land still has their 21-game winning streak in Big Ten to protect, as they have started off league play without a single blemish.  The Bruins will remain atop our poll this week and their historical start to the season roll on.  The UNC Tarheels (33-7-1) move up to No. 2 this week after they made their biggest statement of the year by taking the weekend series from now No. 4 Georgia Tech (32-7).  No. 3 Texas (30-8) and No. 5 Georgia (32-9) both went (3-1) on the week and won their SEC series to stay in contention for the regular season title.  Florida State (28-11) had a nice bounce back (4-0) week and re-enter the Top 10 at No. 8 this...
