Southeast Super NIT #2 Scout Notes

Chase Jelks (’30, Atlanta, Ga.)- the left-handed hitting Jelks was all over the barrel on Sunday in a pair of games for The Dream 14U Black. He finished the day with five hits in six at-bats which included four doubles and six runs batted in. His two doubles and four runs batted in played a big part in the Gold Playoffs Round 1 victory over the talented BPA squad out of California. He backed up that performance with three more hits in a quarterfinal’s loss to the East Cobb Astros 14U Orange to finish the tournament with a .600 batting average and 1.636 on-base plus slugging percentage. A primary utility infielder, Jelks made multiple plays on defense at shortstop with athletic actions moving to both sides and the arm strength to stick on the left side of the dirt. The present arm strength transferred to the mound where he tossed two innings of relief running the fastball up to 80 mph. The athletic Jelks also moved to centerfield and showed that he can move all over the diamond and impact a game in all facets on both sides of the ball.

Banks Gutierrez (’30, Acworth, Ga.)- the 6-foot-1, 165-pound left-handed hitting primary first baseman is another player on The Dream 14U Black squad that has made big strides over the past year in his development. Over the weekend he drove in six runs with a pair of doubles and a homerun to go along with five runs scored. A secondary left-handed pitcher, Gutierrez showcased a repeatable delivery running the fastball into the high-70s with a solid breaking ball to record three strikeouts over three innings of relief. The North Cobb Christian product is a two-way player with upside on both sides of the ball moving forward.

Jordan Diaz (’30, Duarte, Calif.) the 5-foot-9, 175-pound right-handed hitter drove in five runs over three games for BPA. The primary backstop recorded a hit in all three games and finished the tournament with a .750 batting average and a whopping 2.193 on-base plus slugging percentage. Through 17 games of the 2026 PG season Diaz carries a .472 batting average and an .833 slugging percentage out of the leadoff spot for BPA. With a compact stroke and barrel awareness in the box to go with his solid catch-and-throw skills behind the plate, Diaz is a player to keep an eye on moving forward.

Jackson French (’30, Friendswood, Tex.)- the 5-foot-11, 185-pound right-handed pitcher showed a quality feel over the weekend to execute pitches with 2 and 2/3 scoreless innings of relief for BPA. He finished his outing with only one hit allowed and recorded five strikeouts for his efforts. French ran the fastball up to 80 mph and featured a solid breaking ball in the mid-60s to avoid barrels and pound the zone at a 72% strike rate. The primary third baseman also chipped in three hits in six at-bats with three runs batted in over three games. Through 16 games of the ’26 PG season, the right-handed hitting French is batting .323 with nine runs batted in and eight runs scored. On the mound he carries a 0.96 ERA over 14 and 1/3 innings pitched with 14 strikeouts to just two walks.

-Jason Phillips

Cason Morgan (2030, Talladega, Ala.) put together a very solid hitting performance over the weekend, tallying 8 hits in 14 at-bats for a whopping 10 RBIs in 5 games. Morgan proved to be a solid piece in the lineup for ZT Southeast, and also has the ability to play multiple positions. Morgan has plenty of room to grow into his frame, and it should be interesting to see how he continues to develop.

Brock Crawford (2030, Cartersville, Ga.) had a very good weekend at the dish while also showing the 2-way ability on the mound. Crawford was able to tally 7 RBIs at the plate, and was also able to launch one over the wall on Sunday. Crawford had an unfortunate outing on the mound, but ran the fastball up to 80 mph. Crawford has been up to 84 so far this spring, something worth noting.

Werner Shumake (2030, Gainesville, Ga.) put together a powerful weekend at the plate, with 6 extra base hits and an average north of .500. Shumake has a simple swing with solid hands that stay inside the baseball. He also has plenty of room to grow into his frame, and it should be interesting to see him add strength to the frame in the coming years.

Jayden Moore (2030, Kennesaw, Ga.) had a solid weekend all around, tallying 6 hits with 9 RBIs and a triple. Moore also had a good showing on the mound, running the fastball up to 80 mph in a 5 inning outing. Moore also mixed in a mid 60s breaking ball with some depth, and was able to tally 5 strikeouts.

Andrew Davis (2030, Suwanee, Ga.) had a good outing on Sunday, going 4.1 innings with 2 runs given up. The righty ran the fastball up to 80 mph with some good life to it, with plenty of room to grow into his frame. Davis also only walked one hitter, showing off the command.

-Jake Willis

Mitchell Paulling (2030, Dunwoody, Ga.) had a great weekend at the dish for ATL Lightning Gold 14u. The 5-foot-7, 130-pound middle infielder showed good barrel awareness and collected four hits across the first three games of the event, including a triple and five RBI. He also got an inning on the mound and struck out two sitting in the low-70s.

Wyatt Schuck (2030, Marietta, Ga.) put together a huge weekend for the 643 DP Cougars 14u. The 5-foot-9, 155-pound corner infielder wrapped up the event hitting .500 with a pair of triples and a double along with five singles and drove in seven runs as well. Schuck has a functional swing from both sides of the plate and consistently impacts into the gaps. This is a name to know heading forward into his high school career.

Anderson Bowdish (2030, Windermere, Fla.) was incredible throughout the weekend, taking home the MVP honors after a huge weekend at the plate for the East Cobb Astros. The 5-foot-9, 180-pound outfielder showed immense barrel feel throughout the six games that we saw him and finished up the event hitting .750. He drove in a remarkable 16 runs in six games while also hitting a trio of homers. Bowdish was a huge winner this weekend and continues to show so much intrigue as a young outfield prospect.

Collin Berry (2031, Atlanta, Ga.) was another impressive bat that we saw over the weekend, collecting nine hits across five games in the heart of the order for ZT Southeast. The 5-foot-8, 140-pound outfielder has a loose left-handed swing with feel for the barrel and showed the ability to spray it into the gaps. He finished the event with four triples and a pair of doubles as well. Incredible weekend for Berry that showed so much to like moving forward.

Geno McKinlay (2030, Canton, Ga.) turned in a dominant outing for USA Scout Team Nike US 14u on Sunday. The 5-foot-9, 138-pound left-handed pitcher went four innings, allowing zero hits and striking out eight. The fastball got into the mid-70s, and he pounded the zone with it at a 67% clip. The pitchability stands out and is a good mover down the mound that turned in a strong look over the weekend.

Colt Carter (2030, Carrollton, Ga.) had the two-way ability on full display throughout the event this weekend. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound middle infielder finished up the tournament hitting .571 with a triple and three doubles to his name all while running the fatsball into the low-80s as well. It’s pretty advanced tools across the board for Carter at just 14.3 and is a name to get familiar with as he makes his high school debut next year.

-Cam McElwaney

Anderson Bowdish (2030, Windermere, Fla.) was one of the louder bats for East Cobb Astros 14U in their run to the championship crown, hitting .750 through six games with nine hits, two doubles, three home runs, and 16 RBI across six games. The 5-foot-9, 180-pound outfielder has good present strength with a strong feel for the barrel, pairing his quick hands with bat speed. He consistently impacted the baseball with authority throughout the weekend and looked comfortable in the box. Bowdish is an intriguing name to follow in the 2030 class.

The 5-foot-8, 150-pound catcher has a short, compact swing with good balance and feel for the barrel, producing quality contact throughout the event. He stayed through the zone well and showed the ability to hit balls in the gaps, while also adding value with his speed on the bases. Liddle continues to perform at a high level in PG events.

Collin Berry (2031, Atlanta, Ga.) made a big impact for ZT Southeast in their silver championship win, finishing 9-for-12 (.750) with two doubles, four triples, and seven RBI across five games. The 5-foot-8, 140-pound center fielder is a quick-twitch athlete with plus speed and bat-to-ball skills, showing the ability to use the whole field and leg out extra-base hits. He looked comfortable in the box and produced quality contact throughout the event. Berry offers intriguing upside in the 2031 class.

Wyatt Schuck (2030, Marietta, Ga.) put together a strong showing for 643 DP Cougars 14U in their run to a championship game appearance, hitting .500 with five hits, including a double and two triples, while driving in seven runs across six games. Pokers Rally to Capture 16U BCS Title A hot afternoon at JetBlue Stadium in Fort Myers, Florida ended in a 9-1 victory for the Original Florida Pokers 2028 National, defeating SBA Bolts Florida 2028 National on Monday to capture the 16U BCS National Championship. A pitchers’ duel kept the game scoreless through four innings before the Pokers broke it open with a five-run fifth inning. The title marked the Pokers’ second 16U BCS Championship, adding to the championship they won in 2022. Despite a slow start to the summer, the Pokers found their stride at the right time. “We struggled a lot early in the summer, but the past few tournaments we really started turning it on,” Pokers head coach Will McCrimon said. “I’m just so proud of these kids.” Max Maynes started the game on the mound for the Pokers. The left-hander allowed three hits and two walks...

Brotherly Love Inspires Carter Hadnot

Jim Salisbury
Article Image
PHILADELPHIA – Perfect Game has been a big part of Carter Hadnot’s life since he was 12. He participated in more than a dozen tournaments and showcases, including prestigious Select Festivals as a 13U and 14U player, as well as last summer’s PG All-Star Game for underclassmen in San Diego.   The PG event that Hadnot always wanted to be part of was the DICK’s All-American Classic. Now, that’s on his resume, too. He played in the 24th annual Classic earlier this week at Citizens Bank Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies. “This means a lot to me,” he said during the event. “I always wanted to make it to Select Fest when I was younger. So, every time I get invited to an event it’s an honor and it’s fun. I don’t take it for granted. “This is definitely the one I always wanted to make it to. A lot of big names have...

Scott Wins MVP Two Ways

Jim Salisbury
Article Image
PHILADELPHIA – When the folks at Perfect Game reached out to invite him to pitch in the 2026 PG All-Star Game for rising sophomores and juniors, Cullen Scott had one request. “You mind if I get a couple of at-bats, too?” Along with his dad, Scott traveled from the family’s home in Texas to Citizens Bank Park. The trip proved to be a huge success as he starred on the mound and at the plate and was named the game’s Most Valuable Player. Scott, 16, pitched a scoreless first inning and struck out two. In the fourth inning, he belted a grand slam six rows up into the left-field seats to lead the National team’s 6-1 win over the American team. “He showed us why he’s here as a pitcher and a hitter,” said Greg Sabers, PG’s vice president of scouting and showcases. "He’s one of the top pitchers here, but he’s too good a...

Romero Slams His Way to Classic MVP

Jim Salisbury
Article Image
PHILADELPHIA – Sunday’s DICK’s Perfect Game All-American Classic was a pitching-dominated affair until the bottom of the eighth inning when the rain started to fall at Citizens Bank Park and Koa Romero stepped to the plate and did his best impression of Kyle Schwarber. Romero wears No. 12, just like Schwarber. He bats left-handed, just like Schwarber. He’s got big power, just like Schwarber. And at 5-10 and a rock-solid 225 pounds, he’s even built like Schwarber. Needless to say, Schwarber is Romero’s favorite player. So, it was all kind of storybook when Romero belted a grand slam to dead center to cap off the scoring in the West team’s 8-3 win over the East club in the 24th annual Classic. “This is a dream come true,” said Romero, who was named MVP of the game. “It’s amazing to be able to put a ball like that out of a...

A Philly Dream for Steingall

Jim Salisbury
Article Image
PHILADELPHIA – Carson Steingall had been to Citizens Bank Park many times over the years. After all, he hails from Nazareth, Pa., about 90 minutes up the road from the home of the Philadelphia Phillies and he counts himself as a big fan of the team. Zack Wheeler is his favorite. Steingall realized a dream when he pitched from the same mound that Wheeler does in Perfect Game’s fourth annual All-Star Game for rising sophomores and juniors on Friday. The dream got even better when Steingall, a 16-year-old right-hander, was named Most Valuable Pitcher after striking out the side in the third inning of the National team’s 6-1 victory over the American team. “It’s just an honor to be here,” Steingall said after receiving his trophy. “This event is the best of the best. It’s really cool to win something like this.” Steingall, who’ll...
