Mid-Atlantic Dream Team & Top Tools

Regional Previews: Florida | Georgia | Pacific | Deep South | Texas | Coastal | Southwest

MID-ATLANTIC REGION (NJ, PA, MD, DE, DC)

The Mid-Atlantic Region would not be likely to be out-slugged in a battle between the twelve PG Regions.  They feature strong hitters across the board and wouldn’t have a weakness in their line-up given their collection of speedy outfielders to hit at the top of the order.  The pitching staff would be headed up by two PG All-Americans in Myles Upchurch and Austin Weiss and there is lots of depth beyond the five pitchers on the team below.

Interestingly, the college that seems to have had the most success recruiting the Mid-Atlantic area for this cycle is Alabama, which has signed three of the All-Region team members in Upchurch, outfielder Chase Kroberger and two-way standout Evan Taylor to form a core of their 2025 recruiting class.

Gloucester Catholic (NJ), led by an outstanding junior class, is the only team in the Region to rank inside the Perfect Game Pre-Season Top 50, starting the season at 37th nationally.

C –  Andrew Costello (Jr., Cathedral Prep, Penn.)

Costello is a two-time PG Select Festival athlete whose game is based around is combination of athleticism and plus strength on a physical 5-10/190 frame.  He’s been a dominant hitter in his first two years at Cathedral Prep, hitting .412-5-41 as a freshman and .573-5-34 as a sophomore.  Arm strength is his best defensive tool.  Costello is committed to Wake Forest.

1B –  Jason Fultz (Sr., Cathedral Prep, Penn.)

Fultz plays both third base and first base and also doubles as a two-way prospect with a low 90’s fastball on the mound.  His best position is right-handed bat, however, as the 6-2/220 Fultz has the strength and bat speed to overpower the ball.  Fultz hit .523-11-39 as a junior at Cathedral Prep and also went 7-1, 0.35 on the mound with 77 strikeouts in 40 innings.  The 93rd ranked player in the 2024 class nationally, he is signed with Clemson.

MIF – David Perez (Sr., Archbishop Ryan HS, Penn.)

Perez is a very tooled up middle infielder with good strength on his 5-10/190 frame.  He’s a 6.72 runner with a 93 mph infield arm and has also been up to 94 mph on the mound.  A right-handed hitter, Perez has plenty of pop in his bat and hit .386-7-40 in 35 PG games in 2024 along with hitting .508-4-17 for Archbishop Ryan High School.  He is signed with West Virginia.

MIF –  Aidan West (Sr., Long Reach HS, Mary.)

West enters the spring as the 120th ranked player in the 2025 class and has been impressive in early looks by scouts, with more strength in his already strong 6-2/205 body that was gained without losing any speed (6.57 sixty) or defensive agility.  He fits best as a second baseman on this All-Region team and could end up anywhere on the field eventually but West’s best tool is likely to remain his left-handed bat.  He is signed with North Carolina State.

3B –  Julius Rosado (Sr., South River HS, N.J.)

Rosado has been All-State in New Jersey since hitting .578-4-37 as a freshman and has been one of the most dominant hitters in the country for the last three years, with a total of 25 home runs entering his senior season, including 14 (.594-14-35) as a junior.  He’s been just as successful as a hitter on the PG circuit, with a .467-9-32 line in 30 games the past two years, not to mention a huge 106 EV/426-foot home run at the PG National Showcase.  Rosado is signed with Rutgers.

OF – Johnathan Coombs (Sr., DeMatha HS, Mary.)

“Bud” Coombs has been well-known to baseball scouts and football recruiters since before he entered high school and is a rare athlete who has thus far excelled expectations in both sports.  Coombs is a three-star running back signed with Maryland for both sports and is also the 33rd ranked player in the 2025 class and a PG All-American.  A 5-10/190 right-handed hitter, Coombs has an elite combination of quick-twitch athleticism and overall strength.

OF –  Chase Kroberger (Sr., Moorestown HS, N.J.)

Kroberger is the top ranked senior in New Jersey at 96th nationally and one of the most tooled up outfielders in the country regardless of class.  A 6-0/190 right-handed hitter, Kroberger ran a 6.36 sixty at the PG National Showcase and has thrown 96 mph from the outfield.  He hit .413-5-22 with 13 steals in 25 games in PG play in 2024 after hitting .415-9-21 with 17 steals while earning All-State honors for Moorestown HS in the spring.  Kroberger is signed with Alabama.

OF –  Mason Ligenza (Sr., Tamaqua Area HS, Penn.)

Ligenza almost qualifies as a sleeper prospect, ranking 248th in the PG 2025 class rankings and holding a scholarship to Pittsburgh.  He’s also a highly projectable 6-5/205 left-hander with 6.43 speed in the sixty and big bat speed and power potential.  Legenza hit .469-3-9 in 11 games of PG play in 2024 after hitting .493-8-19 with 18 steals for Tamaque Area High School in the spring.

LHP – Cole Hubert (Sr., Saucon Valley HS, Penn.)

Hubert is an undersized southpaw at 5-10/165 but is incredibly athletic and stands out on both sides of the ball, although he’s signed with Texas A&M as a pitcher.  He threw 52 innings in 2024 PG play, striking out 85 hitters and only walking 16 while throwing 66% strikes.  That after going 9-2, 0.45 with 158 strikeouts in 77 innings at Saucon Valley HS in the spring.  He features an 89-92 mph fastball to go with a full four-pitch mix and obviously advanced control.  Hubert is also a .408 career high school hitter and hit .445-3-29 in 2024 PG play.

RHP – Christian Lucarelli (Sr., Riverside HS, Penn.)

Lucarelli is a big and strong 6-3/210 right-hander with a full four-pitch mix on the mound and a good feel for pitching.  His best pitch is a riding fastball up to 94 mph from a deceptive over the top arm action, with a big downer curveball being his swing and miss pitch.  Lucarelli went 4-0, 0.88 with 49 strikeouts in 24 innings as a junior and is 16-3, 1.62 with 227 strikeouts in 121 innings in his three-year career at Riverside High School.  He is signed with Duke.

RHP - Evan Taylor (Sr., Ocean City HS, N.J.)

Taylor is a candidate for the All-Region team both as a power hitting third baseman and a strong-armed right-handed pitcher and Alabama listed him as both when announcing his signing.  He’s been up to 93 mph on the mound with a sharp upper 70’s curveball and hit .343-10-29 in 42 games of PG play in 2024, including blasting five home runs at the WWBA 17U National Championships.  Taylor is the 159th ranked player in the PG 2025 class rankings and third in New Jersey.

RHP – Myles Upchurch (Sr., St. Albans School, D.C.)

Upchurch is a Perfect Game All-American and the 68th ranked prospect overall in the 2025 class.  He sat at 94 mph at the PG National Showcase and All-American Classic while topping out at 96 mph to go with a slider that grades out as well as his fastball.  A strong 6-4/215 multi-sport athlete, Upchurch is signed with Alabama.

LHP –  Austin Weiss (Sr., Georgetown Prep, Mary.)

Weiss is the Region’s second PG All-American pitcher and the 5th ranked left-hander in the 2025 class nationally.  A very athletic 6-1/190 two-way player, Weiss throws in the 91-94 mph range from a deceptive low ¾’s arm slot with a big breaking upper 70’s slider as his best pitch.  A Maryland signee, Weiss has struck out an incredible 74 hitters in 33 innings in PG play over the past three years.

UT – Luke Williams (Jr., Franklin Regional HS, Penn.)

“Utility” is usually reserved for a two-way pitcher/player but Williams’ status as one of the best shortstops and best centerfielders in the country give him a degree of flexibility rare in the game.  The Virginia commit has incredible physical tools, including 6.39 speed, an arm that registers 98 mph from the outfield and 94 mph from the infield, along with elite level bat speed and power potential.  He is ranked 11th nationally in the 2026 class.

Mid-Atlantic Region Top Tools

Best Hitter for Average: Aidan West (Sr., Long Reach HS, Mary.)

West’s combination of speed, bat speed and left-handed barrel control makes him a potential high average hitter in every regard.

Best Hitter for Power: Julius Rosado (Sr., South River HS, N.J.)

This could be any number of hitters in this Region but Rosado gets the nod on just pure frequency both in the spring and during PG play.  In addition to his 25 high school home runs, Rosado has 63 total extra-base hits and has thrown in a 17-6 record on the mound in 146 innings over three years on the mound.

Best Runner: Luke Williams (Jr., Franklin Regional HS, Penn.)

The Mid-Atlantic Region’s four outfielders all have big speed and center field potential and this could just as easily be either of the other four.  As the youngest with the greatest potential to keep adding speed, the nod goes to Williams.

Best Defensive Catcher: Mickey Gilligan (Jr., Passaic Co Tech, N.J.)

Gilligan is a strong-armed young catcher who impressed with his defensive skills at the PG Junior National Showcase and with Wow Factor on the PG circuit.  A Rutgers commit, Gilligan is also a left-handed hitter who is a .442 hitter in PG play over the last two years along with hitting .443-6-32 as a sophomore last spring.

Best Defensive Infielder: David Perez (Sr., Archbishop Ryan HS, Penn.)

Perez is an easy mover in the middle infielder and his arm is a major weapon.

Best Defensive Outfielder: Chase Kroberger (Sr., Moorestown HS, N.J.)

Kroberger’s combination of speed and high-level arm strength makes him a potential elite center fielder on defense.

Best Defensive Arm: Luke Williams (Jr., Franklin Regional HS, Penn.)

Williams has a classic hand cannon regardless of where you put him on the field.  Interestingly, he doesn’t pitch.

Best Fastball: Myles Upchurch (Sr., St. Albans School, D.C.)

Upchurch has been clocked up to 96 mph at PG events and higher at other venues and gets to his velocity pretty easily and is a strike thrower with the pitch.  As a three-sport athlete who has always played both ways on the baseball field, it goes to figure that he might add more velocity as he concentrates just on baseball and pitching.

Best Off-Speed Stuff: Austin Weiss (Sr., Georgetown Prep, Mary.)

Weiss’s breaking ball is alternately called a slider and curveball and he can add and subtract from the pitch but the bottom line is that it has proven unhittable at this level.

Best Pitchability: Cole Hubert (Sr., Saucon Valley HS, Penn.)

Hubert has a full four-pitch mix and his ability to throw strikes and to change velocity and shape to his breaking ball is impressive for his age and should make him instantly successful at the next level.

Best Multi-Sport Athlete: Johnathan Coombs (Sr., DeMatha HS, Mary.)

Coombs has been the choice in this category for his entire high school career and his ability to balance his football and baseball careers, while playing far more baseball than the normal football standout, has been notable.

The college players in the 2028 draft class have yet to step on campus, but they're positioned to make an immediate impact. Several high end talents either turned down significant money last year or honored strong college commitments, resulting in their arrival on campus this fall. The class is currently led by a trio of high-upside arms in Jack Bauer, Angel Cervantes, and Cameron Appenzeller. They are followed by a deep group of bats that rounds out a strong, high end Top-10. 2025 Year in Review: JUCO

Looking Back at the 2025 Top 10  Matt Barr (‘25 Niagara, ‘26 Minnesota Twins) Bursting onto the scene last winter, footage of an indoor bullpen rocketed Barr onto the radar of many. Explosive fastball reaches near triple digits with incredible spin numbers across the secondaries. Huge numbers at Niagara earned him the title of the first Juco player drafted in 2025. JC Vanek (‘25 Chipola, ‘26 Kansas City Royals) Just a professional hitter. Vanek for two years at Chipola was an impossible out. While there are questions if the power will ever reach what it takes to play first base at the big league level, the bat and quality defensive skillset at first base may carry. Donovan Becerra (‘25 New Mexico, ‘26 Texas Tech) One of the more high octane arms anywhere in the country last year. Can reach back for upper 90’s and has shown serious swing and...

2025 Year in Review: Draft We’ve reached the end of the 2025 calendar year, and while we’ve already jumped in on the 2026 cycle with some of the fall events and post-draft content we’ve had here at Perfect Game, there’s still one more piece on the docket, and that’s the 2025 Year-In-Review piece here from the PG Draft staff.  The 2025 MLB Draft took place in July, when many highly talented players heard their names called and continued their journey through the game to the next level. There’s already been some of those names making noise in the minors and guys who are moving up prospect lists and becoming names to know for MLB fans digging deep into the future of their organizations. While we are going to “close the book” on 2025 with this article, these players still have many years ahead of them, and many blank pages to continue...

Lucien Saint Cyr, INF, Class of 2026 Commitment: Bucknell Saint Cyr announced his pledge to Bucknell, giving the Bison an interesting blend of present tools and projection. Saint Cyr stands 6-foot-1 and offers room to fill in his medium frame, profiling in the middle infield defensively. The New York product starts wide at the base in the right-handed box, keeping his hands high behind the ear. He works into a subtle outward step load, firing through a compact barrel that showcases bat speed and gap-to-gap impact. For head coach Scott Heather and Bucknell, they land a high-quality Northeast infielder in the ’26 cycle, adding to a class that takes the quality over quantity approach. MVPitcher: Duncan McLeod The uncommitted junior toed the slab in three of the four games for Team Mick, tossing 3 2/3 innings.  Zero walks, zero hits and 6 punchouts for the lefty who was used both as a starter in the series clinching game 4 and he closed out game 3 on Friday in quick fashion.  McLeod was very efficient as well, needing just 42 pitches over all his outings.  In the game 4 start, over two innings he punched out 3, with one strikeout with all of his offerings.  The mid 80’s fastball regularly played up, set up with efficient use of the secondaries, with the breaking ball 73/74 and fading change-up 72-74.   Owen Bone (2026) at it again... 13u Tourney All-American Team

Jheremy Brown
Article Image
What a year it was in 2025 on the national landscape at the 13u level as Perfect Game continues to expand its reach around the country, providing an even bigger schedule of events coast-to-coast which has allowed players all over show out and gain their deserved recognition. Whether in Texas for the Houston 1000 or the 13u WWBA in West Palm Beach, we saw huge, eye opening performances from the players placed below, knowing that we could EASILY build a third team and likely a fourth without much effort.  As we do every year with this exercise, it's worth pointing out the trickiness of this age group and putting the teams together with the 13u group. While the players are all members of the Class of 2030, some are younger for the grade, which allowed them to play at the 12u level where's it's a smaller field, shorter mound distance and different bats, so we'll separate them out and...

Player of the Year: Asher Williams It was an incredible year for Williams that was rewarded with a trip to the 14U Select Fest, before some more impressive play in the fall. He came to the plate almost 250 times in PG tournaments throughout 2025 and reached base in well over half of them, hitting to a .500 AVG while slugging a 14U circuit best 12 bombs and driving in 113 runs. The numbers on the surface are ridiculous, but when you look at the high-level events he put them up in, it makes it even more impressive. Pitcher of the Year: Tristan Blalock Blalock earns this honor after a dominant 2025 where he struck out 85 batters in just 48.2 innings of work with a minuscule 1.58 ERA. This included several strong performances at many national level tournaments and showcases where he was able to bully some of the best hitters in the country. It’s hard not to fall in love with...

PG Draft: Gut Feel Guys

Tyler Henninger
Article Image
While we are nearing the turn of the calendar to the 2026 year, that means we are just inching closer to the beginning of the season for many high school players and college baseball is on the horizon. We are prepping for a reshuffle of the 2026 MLB Draft Board as well here amongst the PG Draft staff. But before we get to that, we sat down and have each picked a couple of players who are in the mix to get selected in a couple of different buckets.  We have prospects who could go into the Top 30 picks or so, prospects who could be selected in the Top 5 rounds, and prospects who could go inside of the Top 10 rounds. With the draft quite far down the road and a lot of re-shuffling to be done as these players play themselves into certain spots on the draft board, our scouts picked some players who fit into these “buckets” who are gut-feel guys. These are the guys that our PG...
