Purple vs. Navy Game Highlights

7/28/2019

Sam Holtz (2021 SS, Hawthorn Woods, IL) Continues to really see the ball well and consistently barrel up contact. Turned over and drove a ball deep into the left field corner for an easy double to lead-off an inning. 

Ryan Sauter (2021 3B, Olathe, KS) Had a couple of knocks in the game showing off some jump to the pull side gap for a double. Also took the mound and showed a quick arm action into release topping out at 83 MPH.

Michael Rivera (2021 MIF, Gurnee, IL) was impressive on the mound utilizing an athletic delivery to the mound with a fluid arm stroke. Works both edges of the plate working away from the hitter with a fastball showing life to the arm side topping out at 83 MPH. Also drove a ball into the gap with quick hands and a compact stroke. Cruised into second base with a double. 

Collin Ryan (2021 2B, Carpentersville, IL) Quick barrel through the zone on a line drive bat path. Can show some ability to control the barrel. Drove a ball deep with some carry for a double late in the game. 

Scott Harper (2020 RHP, Channahon, IL) Athletic swinger with repeatable mechanics. Looks to create elevation to the pull side of the field and really lifted one to deep left for a ground rule double.

AJ Garcia (2023 OF, Chicago, IL) Followed up Harper's double with a long shot of his own on the next pitch to deep right field for an RBI triple. Is able to work contact to all fields well.

Jacob Morrison (2022 RHP, Flushing, MI) Displayed good barrel whip through the zone with present strength at contact. Hammered a triple to deep centerfield that generated very tight back spin off the barrel.

Kole Krier (2021 3B, Maple Grove, MN) The Minnesota native showed good balance in his swing with the ability to repeat path and plane. Collected two hits in game action showing good feel for the barrel.

Evan Davis (2023 SS, Waterloo, IL) Utilized a direct, compact hand path to contact that allowed for a high contact approach. Consistently produced tough at-bats throughout the game while picking up two base hits.

Korey Bunselmeyer (2020 C, Ava, IL) The 2020 grad flashed some potential on the mound showing a fastball that topped at 85 mph with occasional run to arm side. Bunselmeyer displayed developing feel for the zone, but was able to induce weak contact and miss barrels when locating to the bottom quadrants of the strike zone.

Jacob Morrison (2022 RHP, Flushing, MI) Large frame with present strength throughout. Utilizes it well at the plate with solid torque in the lower half. Drove a ball to deep left field for an easy double. Also took the mound and showed a fluid delivery running the fastball up to 83 MPH.

Sam Holtz (2021 SS, Hawthorn Woods, IL) Very athletic ball player with a mature approach at the plate. Works the ball to all fields with feel for the barrel on a line drive bat path. Collected three singles in the game and made his presence known on the bases as well. 

Trevor Busyn (2022 RHP, Clarkston, MI) Quick hands at the plate with a pull side approach. Worked out in front on a pitch on the inner half and drove it down the line for a stand up double to the fence. 

Charles Wick (2020 1B, Oro Valley, AZ) Really put the barrel on the ball well in the game. Squared up three times and reached base with two singles as well as a double pulled down the line in left field. 

Kole Krier (2021 3B, Maple Grove, MN) Solid single of inning of work on the mound showing a strong amount of command and control of the strike zone. Curveball was especially good with feel for the zone and 12-to-6 bite down in the zone. Good life on the fastball topping out at 82 MPH. Was also able to rack up three hits in the game with a high amount of barrel control.

Ricky Collazo (2023 C, Elmwood Park, IL) The 2023 grad displayed good feel for the barrel with a high contact approach. Collected two singles in his first two at-bats of the game.

Hudson Wesney (2023 2B, Warsaw, OH) The Ohio native showed good barrel control with the ability to stay inside of the baseball at contact. Consistently created hard contact at the plate picking up three base hits in his four trips.

Scott Harper (2020 RHP, Channahon, IL) Harper showed good arm whip through extension with a fastball that topped at 83 mph. Consistently worked to both sides of the palte and effectively challenged hitters. The 2020 grad worked three scoreless innings while allowing only one hit and struck out six batters. Harper also showed good bat speed at the plate with the ability to drive the ball to all fields collecting three hits, including a double.

Ben Plumley (2021 RHP, Chicago, IL) Utilized a balanced, repeatable delivery with a clean arm stroke. Fastball produced good downhill plane through the zone with a fastball that topped at 84 mph. Plumley looked to change speed with a 10/5 breaking ball in the low 70's. Completed three scoreless innings while allowing only one hit.

Al Holguin (2021 1B, Chicago, IL) The Chicago native utilized a naturally leveraged barrel plane with good strength at contact. Consistently produced loud contact off the barrel while picking up two hits in game action. Also flashed some upside on the mound showing a sinking fastball at 82 mph and a sweeping slider in the low 70's.

Luke Wickenhauser (2022 C, Hardin, IL) Wickenhauser utilized a smooth, repeatable line drive barrel plane while at the plate. The 2022 grad shows a mature, balanced approach at the plate with the barrel skills to work to all fields with ease. Collected two hits in game action.
Batting Practice Highlights

Al Holguin (2021 1B, Chicago, IL) One of the top rounds of batting practice on the day showing a quick trigger into a smooth and easy bat path with high end barrel speed through the zone. Line drive plane impacting the baseball out in front incorporating strength well to create lift off the barrel and drive the baseball to the deep parts of the field and out of the ball park.

Tristan Head (2022 SS, Clarendon Hills, IL) Young 2022 graduate already showing solid feel for controlling the barrel. Works the middle of the field well with a line drive plane through the zone. Also shows the ability to get out in front and drive the ball well to the pull side. Solid contact throughout round showing consistency and the ability to repeat mechanics.

Ben Plumley (2021 RHP, Chicago, IL) Very athletic ball player that shows in the box. Smooth barrel actions with a quick and compact hand path to contact. Naturally leveraged barrel plane looking to create some elevation off contact. Will generate hard, line drive jump off of the barrel when squared.

Michael Rivera (2021 MIF, Gurnee, IL) Rivera was very steady in the box, consistently driving the ball on a line back up the middle. He shows a direct hand path with strength at the point of contact and generating solid barrel whip through the zone. He’s able to control the barrel out in front well with occasional jump when getting lift.

Jacob Morrison (2022 RHP, Flushing, MI) Very fluid and consistent swing mechanics, repeating actions time and time again. Naturally lifted plane through the zone creating good lift out in front. Works a lot to the pull side and drives the ball deep in the gaps. Swings the bat with intent to do damage.

Korey Bunselmeyer (2020 C, Ava, IL) Showed a nice amount of raw strength, including solid pop when working to the pull side of the field. Longer path into contact impacting the baseball with loud contact when squared up. Gets the barrel through the zone and works out in front well.

Hayden Mileski (2022 OF, Lakeville, MN) All-around solid hitter during batting practice. Showed a strong mix of barrel control and hard contact. Creates solid torque with a strong lower half and rotation actions to the baseball. Repeats actions well with a simple stroke and short triggered load.

Trevor Busyn (2022 RHP, Clarkston, MI) A lot of strong potential with the bat showing big raw power. Has some quickness to actions for size showing natural jump while working to the pull side. Occasionally squares the ball up out in front and when he does it has hard carry.

Ryan Sauter (2021 3B, Olathe, KS) Large frame in the box with present strength throughout. Utilizes well looking to do damage while using the whole field. Simple and direct path to the contact getting movements on time and in sync. Can really impact the baseball when working with intent.

Sam Holtz (2021 SS, Hawthorn Woods, IL) Rotational lower half actions with strong hands through contact. Stays mostly direct on a naturally lifted plane. Strong ability to consistently make solid, line drive contact. Is able to work both a high contact approach as well as a power approach when working to lift the baseball.
