Coach Arteaga will take over as head coach for the 2024 season after spending the past 21 years as the programs pitching coach. The Hurricanes have a history of bringing in high level talent and a depth of upside talent as well. The 2024 class won’t be much different in that regard as they will welcome 3 top 100 recruits and 12 other top 500 recruits. A class that will look to contribute to future runs to Omaha in the upcoming seasons.

A trio of arms ranked inside the top 100 will lead the 2024 Miami class. Lazaro Collera is a physical right-hander with an electric fastball that topped out at 98 this past summer at PG National. David Shields and Johnny King are athletic left handed pitchers that have shown advanced pitchability to go with swing and miss stuff. All three have a history of performing at high level events and look like future building blocks for the pitching staff at Miami.

A group of talented outfielders will lead the position player group. Fabio Peralta is a centerfielder with speed and a smooth left-handed swing that generates bat speed and gap to gap line drives. Michael Torres has a similar profile to Peralta as a left handed hitting outfielder with impact speed and upside as a run creator that can also cover plenty of ground in the outfield. The impact bat with the big outfield arm is Bailan Caraballo who will bring his right handed power bat to Coral Gables and look to develop into a middle of the order presence for the Hurricanes.

Look for right-hander AJ Ciscar to make an impression early on the Hurricanes coaching staff after a very impressive performance on the 2023 summer circuit. He has shown the ability to utilize the full pitch mix and may be a slight velo jump away from becoming an impact arm for the Miami staff. Two other intriguing position player recruits are Evan Taveras and Elijah Hurt. Taveras is a switch-hitting catcher with a strong arm and developing power at the plate while Hurt is a versatile defender with impact speed and easy bat speed through the zone.

This class is representative of what Miami and Coach Arteaga have and want to continue to build in Coral Gables. A strong pitching staff with star power, versatility and upside, combined with dynamic position players that really help prevent runs on defense and create runs offensively. There’s notable depth to this class and if the majority of them end up on campus there’s some building blocks that will be a part of another push to Omaha for the Hurricanes.
