East Outlasts West at 11u Select Fest

MARIETTA, Ga. – A tightly-contested 3-2 ballgame through four innings at the 11u Perfect Game Select Festival turned into an offensive explosion in the fifth inning, with the East and West combining for 19 runs through the final three frames, with the East eventually pulling out a 13-11 victory.

The game started much like it ended, with fireworks, as Carter Nash led off the game for the East squad and promptly deposited the sixth pitch of the game over the wall for a leadoff home run.





The West answered back in the bottom of the second with two runs of their own to take the lead. Aiden Cervantes and Caleb Klein hit back-to-back singles to put a pair of runners on base, and Louis Lappe drove them both in with a double to center field.



It didn’t take long for the East squad to tie the game at 2-2, however, as Nathan Handley-White registered an RBI groundout in the third inning to score Matthew Housewright, who had singled earlier in the frame.

Julian Trejo doubled for the West in the fourth inning, and later came around to score on a wild pitch to give his team a 3-2 lead.

That’s when the offense really came to life for both squads.

Graham Huffstetler and Tyson Brown worked back-to-back walks to lead off the fifth for the East, and Braiden Miller doubled to score Huffstetler and put himself and Brown in scoring position. Chance Baisden singled into right field to score Brown five pitches later to give the East a 4-3 lead, and sent Miller to third base.

Colton Pettinato delivered the biggest blast of the inning, a double that scored both Miller and Baisden. Pettinato would later come around to score and push the lead to 7-3.



Huffstetler then was handed the ball on the mound for the East squad and tossed a scoreless inning, putting the momentum squarely in the his team’s dugout.

They used that momentum to score four more runs in the sixth inning to push the lead to 11-3. Kannon Derry grabbed an RBI single to push the first run across in the sixth for the East, but the highlight of the inning was a three-run blast from Tre’ Lawrence, giving his team that 8-run lead.



The West was not ready to roll over, though. Thirteen batters came to the plate in the bottom of the sixth, and by the time the inning was over, we were all tied up again at 11-11. Cameron Hockett, Brett Reager, Antonio Gil, Amari Maxwell, Landon Adkison, and Klein all registered hits in the inning, none bigger than Adkison’s, a mammoth grand slam that tied the game after four runs had already come across.



But the East answered right back.

Miller led off the seventh with a double to right field, and five pitches later came around to score on an RBI base hit from Pettinato. A sac fly from Andrew Arant scored Pettinato, giving the East a 13-11 lead that would hold as the final score.

11u Awards

Earlier in the weekend, Perfect Game held an awards dinner for the players selected to participate in the 11u Perfect Game Select Festival.

Kannon Derry was named the Offensive Player of the Year, Braiden Miller was given the Pitcher of the Year award, and Quinn Neal was selected as the Player of the Year.

With the completion of the 2026 13u National Showcase, an event that featured some of the best talent the age group has to offer, 42 players came out with the label of "Festivaler" as they received a phone call shortly after the event concluded. Moving back to the University of Tennessee after a two year stay at the University of Virginia, Ole Rocky Top will see a mixed bag of returners; three-timers, new faces and a couple who bridged the gap from the 11u game into the 13u iteration.  Of the 42 players, 9 players call Florida their home base which is the most of any state while Texas (8), California (7) and Georgia (5) are all close behind nearly three-quarters of the players selected.
