Uncommitted Gems: Coastal

2023 Uncommitted Gems: Georgia | West Coast | Four Corners | Texahoma

North Carolina:

Isaiah Mack (2023, Cornelius, N.C.) is one of the most physically gifted uncommitted prospects left in the entire country standing at 6-foot-3, 215 pounds. Not only does he have the size but the athleticism shines bright with him, running a sub-6.7 second sixty-yard dash this year. Projects at third base going forward but has the skill set to be more than serviceable at first. The bat is starting to come along as he hit over .350 at WWBA Worlds Underclass this fall and if he is to keep progressing in the box, we could see him jump up the rankings.

Pierce Bouwman (2023, Sanford, N.C.) is a straight gamer who excels in all facets of the game. Has been stellar at PG events this year with six all-tournament team titles and was named MVP in two others. The bat also came alive this year as he .444 in 115 plate appearances while driving in 63 RBI. The power is also starting to show itself as he had 20 extra-base hits, with three of those being home runs. Bouwman is an easy add to any lineup as he seems to always come up with a barrel, even in the biggest moments like the tweet mentioned above.

Joshua Bussey (2023, Garner, N.C.) feels like he has possibly some of the biggest upside out of all prospects from this region. Pure athlete as he runs a smooth 6.4 second sixty-yard dash. Covers a ton of ground in the outfield and has all the tools to play all three positions. Short, simple cut in the box and is starting to create more pop in game. Back spun baseballs and peppered gaps, especially at the Underclass Workout Showcase this past fall. Don’t be shocked to see him have made another jump this spring and be a must-follow guy this summer.

Bennett Rich (2023, Clayton, N.C.) is a sure pick to be a huge addition to whichever staff ends up getting his commitment. Everything you want in a new age right-hander. Big, physical frame at 6-foot-2 and looks as though he can throw all day. Let him start or throw him into a jam and let him do his thing. Easy fastball into the upper-80s that will surely be low-90s stuff by the end of his prep career. Not just an arm though, the secondaries are advanced as well. Nasty fading changeup and a sharp bender to go with it. In 19 innings pitched this summer, he struck out 34 hitters. Keep an eye on him this spring and summer as he will surely bring in some eyes from the next level.

Chace Chaplin (2023, Apex, N.C.) has been one of the top two-way guys from his region this year and his uncommitted status will surely change sooner rather than later. Sure-handed at first base and swings it with pure intent. Easy power in the swing as he have seen him double 20 times over the course of the year. Not just a power guy either as he hit just shy of .400 in 278 at-bats. After he’s done at the dish, you can catch him late in a game closing it out as the right-hander sits in the mid-80s. Also proves to have feel for a tight-spinning slider. The two-way aspect goes a long way, and it isn’t crazy to think he has a chance to do both in college.

South Carolina:

Landon Knight (2023, Gilbert, S.C.) has been on radars ever since he was invited to participate in the 2019 Select Fest. Smooth defender in the middle infield with easy arm strength as we have seen him throw it mid-80s across the diamond. Although we didn’t see him much on the mound this past year, we know his abilities here are far advanced and it wouldn’t be shocking to think he could pitch at the next level. Either way, Knight is a high-level athlete who has big upside and will find a home after his prep career because of it.

Dylan Richardson (2023, Sumter, S.C.) made huge strides in the year of 2021 and his ranking has reflected that. Power arm right-hander as he has been up into the upper-80s. Gained almost 10 mph of velocity since this time last year and hasn’t looked back. Shows feel for a hard cutter and his best secondary being a sharp spinning slider. His best performance of the year came in the playoffs of the WWBA 16u National Championships as he held one of the best lineups to no runs in 3 2/3 innings of work while striking out five. That performance put him on everyone’s clipboard and it should be interesting to see where he ends up committing.

Chase Stryker (2023, Summerville, S.C.) really pushed his own stock forward this fall with a great performance at WWBA Worlds Underclass. Faced up against a strong lineup, he didn’t back down as he went right after hitters and shut them down. Fastball into the upper-80s as he pounded all four quadrants. Also flashed an advanced feel for a slider with short, vertical movements. The delivery is athletic as he generates easy velocity. Would be easy to make the assumption that he still has plenty more left in the tank and for that reason, he’s a big uncommitted gem.

Andrew Bowers (2023, Mount Pleasant, S.C.) is a name to keep an eye out for this spring and summer as the right-hander just gets it done on the hill. Easy upper-80s heater with life out of hand. Does a great job mixing eye levels and gets swing-and-miss with the fastball up in the zone. Also sports a slurvy breaking ball that he lands for strikes consistently. In 18 innings pitched this year, he struck out 25 hitters. Look for that fastball to break into the 90s this upcoming year and he will continue the trend of missing barrels.

Shemar Simes (2023, Darlington, S.C.) has only participated in a few PG events but has been electric when we see him. Physical 6-foot right-hander who releases with intent. Fastball jumps out of hand as he has been in the upper-80s at past PG events. With his arm stroke and some maturing left to do, easy to think he will sit in the low-90s by this time next year. It will be interesting to see how he develops this off-season, as it is going to be all systems go this upcoming summer for Simes.

Virginia:

Collin Snyder (2023, Spotsylvania, Va.) can easily say he is one of the top backstops left in the Coastal region. Great hands behind the dish with feel for framing the baseball. Also proved to have the arm strength to throw out runners at will. Sub-2.00 second pop time during showcase actions. Has also jumped on the mound and has been into the mid-80s. Don’t sleep on the bat either as he has made big strides in the box over the course of the year. Snyder is an easy add to any depth chart as he can get it done in the box while playing a premium position in the field.

Ashton Bettendorf (2023, Danville, Va.) stands at a lanky 6-foot-3 and is every pitching coach's dream to work with. Long levers and remains athletic in the delivery as he pounds the zone. Fastball into the mid-80s with a ton left in the tank. Also shows feel for a fading changeup and a vertical spinning breaking ball as well. Our sample size was smaller this summer, but we saw him strike out eight in seven innings of work. Bettendorf has an immense ceiling and for good reason, as we look for him to find his home at the next level this year.

Patrick Rakes (2023, Daleville, Va.) not only has a ton of tools to work with, he also has one of the top names out of all hitting prospects in the country. The name fits as the left-hander impacts with big-time thump and drives it deep to all fields. We are starting to see him fill out the frame physically and the power is starting to show. The ground-rule double in the video above is a prime example. Rakes is still figuring out the body a bit and is due to make another jump this year. I think a few would agree with me that he is one of the top uncommitted gems left in the state and maybe even the region.

Raymond Ladd (2023, Danville, Va.) is a physical right-handed pitcher who also has real upside as a hitter. We have seen him into the upper-80s before as he mixes in three secondary pitches. Gets a ton of swing-and-miss, which is backed by his stats this year, as he has struck out 23 in 20 1/3 innings tossed. As noted, the bat also plays in a big way as he generates easy power. Although it looks as though he will be an arm at the next level, it wouldn’t be out of this realm to see him pick up some at-bats in college.

Jordan Capuano (2023, Bristow, Va.) has the Coastal region buzzing as he had a massive 2021 campaign. The 6-foot-1 right-hander is a workhorse on the mound as he gives it his all on every pitch. Hard, right at you, kind of fastball up into the upper-80s with running life. Also has feel to spin a breaking ball and tunnels a tumbling changeup off the heater as well. In 36 1/3 innings pitched, he struck out 47. He tallied up seven all-tournament team honors, including a big one at 16u WWBA National Championship. Proof he can perform against the best talent his class has to offer.

Vincent Cervino
Article Image
With a postseason run for the ages, the Oklahoma Sooners (43-23) took home the National Championship and naturally finish the 2026 season as our No. 1 team in the land.  It is the third national title for the Sooners, playing in their 12th CWS and making their fourth championship series appearance.  They add to previous national titles won in 1951 and 1994 and did it by taking the most difficult path of any team in this year’s tournament.  In the NCAA Tournament, Oklahoma took down national seeds, No. 2 Georgia Tech twice, No. 3 Georgia twice, No. 5 UNC twice, No. 7 Alabama and No. 15 Kansas twice.  This was the second time that head coach Skip Johnson has led the Sooners to the CWS Championship Series since 2022 and the first time he has taken home the crown.  The North Carolina Tarheels (54-14) was one win away from their first national title and finish...

He toed the rubber in round two of the playoffs, proceeding to toss six innings with eight punchouts and zero earned runs allowed. The 6-foot southpaw filled up all four quadrants of the strike zone, attacking hitters early and often with his fastball. Performance Baseball Rolls On

Kinley Kitchens
Article Image
Championship teams often reveal themselves when the game isn’t going their way. Performance Baseball 2028/Milwaukee Brewers Scout Team did exactly that. Trailing Florida Burn 2028 Scout through four innings, the Brewers refused to panic. Instead, they relied on timely hitting, consistent pitching, and an unselfish approach at the plate, rallying a five-run fifth inning before pulling away for a 9-5 victory to clinch their spot in the semifinals. The comeback was fueled by contributions throughout the lineup. Six different players drove in runs, including two RBIs each from Aiden Capobianco and Cameron Massey, while Matthew Heredia, Parker Weston, Ethan Smith, and Aj Bonnette each added an RBI of their own. On the mound, Derek Wenzel set the tone with 3.2 solid innings before Ethan Smith shut the door in relief, helping preserve the comeback victory. Although the Brewers have had a...

JK Select Hawaii capped off an impressive tournament run by defeating GBG Vegas 14u Red14-4 in the championship game on Sunday at Goodyear Ballpark, claiming the 14u West World Series title. From the opening pitch, JK Select controlled the pace of the game. The offense jumped out early, scoring 6 runs in the 1st inning after timely hits from MVP Sean Shindo and Kade Manarpaac. The early lead gave the pitching staff confidence as they worked efficiently through the opposing lineup. “I've worked hard to get better at my game for the past few months; it means a lot that I did well and performed in a tournament like this” said Shindo. Starting pitcher Maddox Prones turned in a strong performance, allowing 3 runs while striking out 5 batters over 3 innings. The defense backed the effort with great plays in the middle infield, preventing GBG Vegas from building momentum....

"Wow" Swings Catch Eyes at 16u Elite

Kinley Kitchens
Article Image
On the second day of the 2026 Perfect Game National Elite Championship, one swing turned heads across the ballpark. The next one brought everyone to a stop. With Wow Factor Nation 16U trailing midway through its matchup against Sandlot Scout Team 2028, Micheal O'Connor launched a solo home run to spark the offense. Just one batter later, Aaron Frink stepped into the box and sent another ball over the fence, delivering back-to-back home runs that quickly became one of the most talked about moments of the tournament’s opening days. Parents gathered along the nets, players from previous games stopped to watch, and college scouts turned their attention toward the action as the two towering swings energized the crowd and brought new life to the game. Although Wow Factor Nation ultimately lost 5-3 after a hard-fought performance, the back-to-back home runs served as a reminder of the...

Corona paired it with a sharp and tight slider at 81-83, staying on the same plane until late. The pitch plays well already and the delivery is very athletic. Flames Capture 18U BCS Title

Alyssa Golden
Article Image
Flames Natty used timely hitting and a dominant start from Beau Collier to defeat NLB American 7-3 and capture the 18U BCS National Championship on Monday at Lee Health Sports Complex. Despite being assembled just hours before the tournament began, the Flames quickly developed chemistry throughout the tournament. “This team was put together 12 hours before this tournament, and they went on a crazy run,” head coach Adam Vasquez said. “These kids know each other locally, but they don’t play together. For them to come together last minute like that, it’s crazy. I’m proud of them for that.” The game opened as a pitchers’ duel, with David Acevedo recording the lone hit through the first two innings. NLB American starter Hayden Graham kept the Flames in check early, allowing just one hit while striking out one over 2.0 innings. The right-hander...
