2023 Uncommitted Gems: Georgia

Photo: Drew Burress (Perfect Game)

Jeffrey Heuer (2023, Greensboro, Ga.) is a 6-foot-4, 215-pound right-handed pitcher who is just tapping into his potential on the bump. The big righty has gained 6 mph on his fastball velocity in a year’s time as he matures into his frame with a high of 94 mph over the summer. Heuer uses a high front side, getting down the slope to drive the fastball toward the plate from a high slot. He recorded 12 strikeouts over five innings pitched in the WWBA World Championship and WWBA Underclass World Championship. He was selected to the All-Tournament Team at the Underclass and came back less than a week later and dominated at the World Championship. Heuer is moving up the national rankings as a top-tier right-handed pitcher that won’t be uncommitted for long.

Colin Houck (2023, Lilburn, Ga.) is a talented two-sport athlete who has talent as a shortstop and at quarterback on the gridiron. At 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, Houck has power at the plate and sure hands in the field on the baseball field, with a strong arm as the starting quarterback for Parkview High School. Selected to the All-Tournament Team at the last two PG events for the Georgia Bombers 17U Marucci, Houck has been behind center during the fall for the Panthers. One of many two-sport stars from the state of Georgia with upside in both sports and uncommitted status for the time being, which also includes Dylan Lonergan (2023, RHP, QB, Duluth, Ga.) and Justice Haynes (2023, OF, RB, Buford, Ga.).

Mikhai Grant (2023, Stockbridge, Ga.), a 6-foot-3, 215-pound right-handed pitcher, has been hitting his stride on the mound and opening college recruiter’s eyes since the summer circuit began. Fastball velocity is trending upwards to go along with his overall mound presence. He finished off the summer with two scoreless innings at the WWBA World Championships in Jupiter with a couple strikeouts and one hit allowed against the San Diego Padres Scout Team. The uncommitted junior looks to carry the momentum from the summer into the 2022 season as a pitcher and outfielder for Dutchtown High School.

Drew Burress (2023, Perry, Ga.), a 5-foot-9, 175-pound baseball player, can play anywhere on the diamond with sure hands in the infield and the speed for the outfield as a 6.64 runner. Burress can move around the diamond to help get his bat in the lineup as the strong-framed junior is a threat any time he steps in the box. He uses the whole field with barrel awareness at the plate and pull-side pop when a mistake is made to him. Solid baseball player anywhere on the field that can swing it in the box.

Isaiah Drake (2023, Atlanta, Ga.), a 5-foot-10, 185-pound right-handed outfielder, has plus tools as a 6.55 runner and arm strength up to 86 mph on throws. He has the ability to play all three spots in the outfield with his primary spot being in center field. A left-handed hitter in the box, Drake uses his strong lower half to generate bat speed and impact through the zone at the plate. Drake has shown the ability to impact a game on both sides of the ball with athletic actions and barrel awareness.

Bo Rhudy (2023, Chickamauga, Ga.), a 6-foot-3, 210-pound right-handed pitcher, made the All-Tournament Team at the WWBA 2023 Grads or 16U National Championship with 15 strikeouts over two appearances and 10 innings pitched. His 15-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio displayed his ability to command the zone with a fastball up to 92 mph and sitting in the mid- to upper-80s. His control of his secondary breaking ball around 70 mph showed his ability to attack the strike zone and execute pitches.

Sherman Johnson II (2023, Loganville, Ga.), a 6-foot-1, 175-pound shortstop, has been selected to the All-Tournament Team in the last four PG events he has participated in. His streak of four consecutive started at the 2021 WWBA 2023 Grads or 16U National Championship with a .474 average and eight runs batted in. Johnson II can swing the bat with barrel awareness in the box and the ability to use the whole field. He uses his leverage out front to impact the baseball to the pull side without wavering from his middle-of-the-field approach.

Luke Orfi (2023, Cumming, Ga.), a 6-foot, 182-pound shortstop, can really run with a 6.45 60-time and arm strength up to 88 mph across the diamond. Orfi loves to play the game and competed every weekend over the summer for the ECB Texas Orange 18U. He is a solid defender up the middle with range and soft hands and ability to make all the throws from the left side. Projectable frame with room to fill and good baseball instincts from the uncommitted junior.

Kaleb Cost (2023, Fayetteville, Ga.), a 6-foot, 180-pound right-handed hitting outfielder, was selected to the All-Tournament Team at the WWBA 2023 Grads or 16U National Championship with a .400 average over 23 plate appearances. The power is coming together in the box with a home run and a triple, as Cost is driving the ball through the middle of the field. A 6.95 runner with the ability to play shortstop and do damage in the box as he also made the All-Tournament Team at the WWBA 2022 Grads or 17U National Championship the week before with another home run and a .450 average.

Under the Radar Gems to follow:

Hayden Blair (2023, Senoia, Ga.) is a 6-foot-3, 215-pound left-handed hitting catcher with power to all fields in the box. A patient hitter who rarely leaves the zone with barrel awareness is a hot commodity in the catching world. Blair is a hard worker who could really pop up the rankings during the 2022 season.

Zach Wieder (2023, Powder Springs, Ga.) is a 6-foot, 155-pound switch-hitting shortstop with good actions on both sides of the ball. An All-Tournament Team selection at the 2021 Upperclass/ 2022’s PG Southeast Fall Showdown for Nelson Baseball School 17U, Wieder displayed solid athletic actions on defense and finished with an even .500 average. A late bloomer with physical projection remaining, Wieder is another young gem to follow moving forward at Hillgrove High School.

Every spring, Division III baseball begins as a wide-open map. Cold mornings turn into long bus rides, non-conference gauntlets test resolve, and by the time the dust settles, only a few teams are still standing with a clear line to the NCAA Division III baseball tournament. The 2026 Perfect Game Division III Baseball Rankings capture that moment before the stretch run, highlighting the programs that have separated themselves through depth, durability, and an ability to win in a variety of ways. These eight teams are not simply piling up wins; they are shaping identities built to survive the grind and thrive when the margins narrow.  The destination is familiar, even if the journey never is. Once again, the final chapter will be written at Classic Park, where timing, composure, and roster balance matter as much as raw talent. The teams ranked here enter 2026 with more than ambition....

Grady Emerson (‘26 TX) laces this ball to right for a walk off single. Clean lefty stroke. Looks the part both sides of the ball. Checks all the boxes. Will be scouted heavily this Spring. #PGHS #HookEm commit. #PGDraft pic.twitter.com/wXvdHdgqME — Perfect Game Texas (@Texas_PG) February 6, 2026 Grady Emerson (2026, Argyle, Texas) had a strong showing throughout the opening week of high school baseball out here in Texas. Works good at-bats and is always a tough out in general. Makes all the plays at short and just has the look of a future big leaguer. He does all the little things right. Bat to ball will play at a high level and there is still a lot more power to project on here. There is a reason why Emerson is one of, if not the most highly coveted high school prospect in the 2026 class and it’s easy to see why. Currently committed to Texas, but has the potential to...

BURLINGTON, IA - Perfect Game Softball Winter One Day Tournament, February 15, 2026. Twelve teams, split between the 16u and 18u divisions, participated in this event.  With two pool games, and then a move into single elimination bracket play,  some players used this tournament as  their last warm-up before kicking off their high school seasons, while others were tuning up for the busy Spring and Summer travel season. In the 16u division, it was the Iowa Aries 16u Ce Fire Red taking the championship, with Southeast Iowa Allstars 18u Gold Miller earning the crown in the 18u division. Below are write-ups from observations made during the day, as due to a software glitch, there were no stats available to complete a Top Performers list. 16U Division  Earning the MV-Pitcher Award, as selected by her coaches, was Aurora Widlund (2029 Altoona, IA) of tournament champion Iowa...

Just a couple of weeks into the 2026 season, several teams have already hit the ground running, namely Walters State, Florida Southwestern, Chipola, Johnson County, Florence-Darlington, and Pearl River. A little further down the rankings, we’ve seen some significant movement. The College of Southern Nevada surged up several spots after a strong 12-2 start, while Gaston has turned heads with an unblemished 14-0 record. We also welcome a few new additions in the 20s: Fresno City and Panola. Neither program debuted inside our top 50, but both have certainly earned their place in this week’s rankings. We’re looking forward to another exciting week of early spring baseball, as teams across the country continue to find their rhythm before conference play begins. Rk. OHIO VALLEY REGION (IL, IN, KY, MI, OH) The Ohio Valley Region has a healthy amount of top-level talent, as it features five Perfect Game All-Americans in shortstop Ethan Bass, third baseman TJ McQuillan, two-way stand out Matt Ponatoski and right-handed pitchers Shawn Sullivan and Grayson Willoughby.  The 2027 class looks very strong as well, especially in Illinois. A couple of things are missing from the Ohio Valley All-Region team, though.  The first is the two best outfielders in the region, as 2027 Illinois outfielder Sebastian Wilson is attending IMG Academy in Florida and fellow 2027 outfielder Noah Goettke from Ohio is attending P27 Academy in South Carolina.  Also missing are any players from Michigan, which enjoyed a dominant run of top prospects in recent years largely behind the Lake Orchard St. Mary’s HS program.  2027 catcher Broder Katke (Brother...

Perfect Game/Player of the Week: Tyce Armstrong, IF, Baylor Opening Day always has a special feel with the sights, sounds and smells bringing back memories of days gone by. But no one that made their way to Magnolia Field at Baylor Ballpark could have imagined what they would witness in the Baylor Bears first game against New Mexico State. Enter 6-4/228, redshirt senior 1B Tyce Armstrong with his power stroke and flare for the dramatic. Transferring in after a successful career at UT Arlington, the Magnolia, TX native would etch his name in the record books with an incredible day at the plate. Armstrong would hit three grand slams in the game, becoming just the second player in NCAA history to accomplish this feat in a single game. His three home runs tied a program record, and his 12 RBIs set a new standard for the Bears. Beyond that, Armstrong matched the 50-year-old record previously...
