2006 Top Prospects

Ryan Powers  SS - 2006 - Beacon, NY   Mississippi State

Powers is an outstanding defensive player with a strong arm, good feet and excellent hands. He is even better at the plate and will create big national interest in the early signing period.

Michael Anderson  RHP - 2006 - Cortlandt Manor, NY   East Carolina

Anderson pitched at 87-88 and touched 89. He has a strong, durable body with very good arm speed. He's got easy arm action and a tight curveball.

Michael Belfiore  OF - 2006 - Commack, NY   Boston College

Belfiore ran a 6.95-60 yard and has a great body. He has very good bat speed, a sweet swing, and tremendous raw power. As a pitcher he topped at 84 with a loose, quick arm.

Jeffrey DeCarlo  LHP - 2006 - Medford, MA   Michigan

DeCarlo was dominate on the mound with 7 K's in 3 innings. He sat at 85-86, touched 88, and has a hammer curve. He is a legit candidate as a two-way player as he was 87 from the outfield, ran a 6.94-60, and showed raw power at the plate.

Joe Van Meter  SS - 2006 - Farmingdale, NY   VCU

He is a definite candidate to be a two-way player at the next level. He is smooth and fluid in the infield with excellent range. Van Meter also showed an 85 mph fastball and a tight breaking curveball.

Joseph Silvestri  SS - 2006 - Floral Park, NY   Uncommitted

He showed outstanding defensive actions with a strong arm from shortstop. Silvestri is a legitimate switch hitter with good bat speed and a line drive swing from both sides.

Kevin Nolan  SS - 2006 - Nashua, NH   Winthrop

Nolan is a smooth fielding shortstop with athletic actions, a strong arm, and great range. He's got strength and leverage in his swing and hits hard line drives to all fields.

Alex Hassan  RHP - 2006 - Milton, MA   Duke

He has above average command of his 86 mph fastball and there's more there. Hassan has a projectable, athletic body. He showed speed as well, running a 6.89-60 and is a two way candidate to play the outfield when he doesn't pitch.

Casey Frawley  MIF - 2006 - New Haven, CT   Stetson

Frawley is an outstanding infielder who can really play the game at the highest level. He is an excellent line drive hitter who shows surprising power.

Joseph Mercurio  C - 2006 - Brewster, NY   Illinois

Mercurio shows a strong accurate arm and good receiving skills. His best tool is the bat. He makes consistent hard contact with very good bat speed.

Phil Negus  RHP - 2006 - Milford, MA   Wake Forest

Negus showed an 88 mph fastball that worked for 5 K's in 2 innings. He has a live arm and 3 solid pitches. He also showed raw power at the plate with good bat speed and strength.

Lee Vermeel  LHP - 2006 - Toronto, ON CAN   Uncommitted

Verweel can spot his 86 mph fastball and has a great upside. His arm is clean and easy and is very projectable with a great pitcher's body.

Sam Mahoney  C - 2006 - Belmont, MA   South Carolina

Mahoney has a strong arm from behind the plate with a 1.96 pop time. He's got excellent raw power from the left side with lift in his swing. He also hit a towering home run in the games.

Robert Van Woert  RHP - 2006 - Johnson City, NY   UCONN

Van Woert has a projectable pitcher's body with late life on his 88 mph fastball. He has a quick arm and leverage in his delivery and is a competitor on the mound.

Michael Click  RHP - 2006 - Media, PA   Uncommitted

He has strength throughout as he threw 86 mph from the outfield and also showed an 88 mph fastball with sink and run. Click showed some power at the plate as well with a home run in batting practice.

Chris Berset  C - 2006 - Vienna, VA   Michigan

Berset is a very good defensive catcher with a strong accurate arm with a 1.96 pop time. He showed good bat speed and good gap power from the right side.

Michael Gedman  OF - 2006 - Framingham, MA   LeMoyne-Owen

Gedman has a strong athletic body. He has a strong, accurate arm from the outfield at 89 mph with good actions. His raw bat speed projects big time power potential.

Mark Brown  OF - 2006 - Lansdale, PA   Stony Brook

He showed excellent speed with a 6.88-60 yard and athletic actions and a strong arm in the outfield. Brown was an easy 86 on the mound and is a potential two-way player.

David Ploof  RHP - 2006 - Fairport, NY   Uncommitted

Ploof flashed an 87 mph fastball with very good arm speed and easy arm action. He also has a tight curveball and shows projectable velocity.

Arllen Cruz  RHP - 2006 - Flushing Queens, NY   George Washington

Cruz has a big, durable pitcher's body with strong legs. His arm works very well and he has a lively fastball at 86 mph.

Scott Szpyrka  3B - 2006 - West Bloomfield, MI   Central Michigan

He is a physically strong player. Szpyrka showed tremendous speed with a 6.83-60 yard and a strong arm at 84 mph from the outfield.

Christopher Wojick  C - 2006 - Uncasville, CT   Maine

Wojick flashed a strong arm from behind the plate and on the mound. He is an aggressive hitter with good bat speed and is a solid line drive hitter.

Bobby Abreu  OF - 2006 - Piscataway, NJ   Seton Hall

Abreu is a runner, he can make things happen on the bases. Swings the bat well and has very good range in the outfield.

Dan Capeless  1B - 2006 - Centerville, MA   Georgetown

Capeless has a chance to be a high level college hitter with power.

Schmeltzer has a big body that generates excellent arm speed. He pitched at 86-87, touching 88, and pitches well off his fastball. He showed good athleticism for his size and has raw power at the plate.

Gregory Annarummo  3B - 2007 - Rehoboth, MA   Elon

He has a strong, athletic body with good arm speed from the mound. Annarummo knows how to pitch. He is also a very good third baseman and an excellent hitter with power.

Bobby Jacobs  C - 2007 - West Chester, PA   Penn State

Jacobs showed a strong arm with a 1.99 pop time and good actions defensively. He has a balanced approach at the plate and makes hard contact.

Matthew Taliercio  SS - 2007 - Norwalk, CT   Uncommitted

He has tremendous hands at the plate from the left side. Taliercio has strength in his swing and projectable power. He also showed a strong arm and athletic actions from the outfield.
