Pitching Highlights

4/28/2019

Zach Danielczyk (2023 3B, Oakton, VA) did a nice job of filling up the strike zone during his time on the mound, working quickly while living in the mid-70s with short running life. He has a projectable frame and solid mechanics which allowed him to mix in a changeup which he tunneled well and spin a short breaker in the low-60s.

After a nice showing in the outfield yesterday, outfielder/righthanded pitcher Alex Stanyek (2023 OF, Holmdel, NJ) ran his fastball up to 81 mph with a quick right arm and solid running life. He mixed in a curveball with 12-6 shape and a shorter, tighter slider while also showing a tumbling changeup, all of which were located in the zone.

A primary middle infielder, Drew Denham (2023 MIF, Hartville, OH) topped out at 74 mph with his fastball but projects for more velocity given the tight spin to his 12-6 shaped curveball. He also threw a two-seamer within the zone with short running life in the low-70s.

Justin Higgins (2023 MIF, New Canaan, CT) showcased himself well yesterday at his primary position of shortstop but also showed intrigue on the mound this morning. With a loose arm and clean release he ran his fastball up 76 mph with short running life and mixed in a curveball at 62 mph and fading changeup at 64 mph.

Maroon vs. White Highlights

4/27/2019

Marcus Leclair (2023 LHP, Oakton, VA) impressed during his time on the mound, running his fastball up to 79 mph from the left side with running life down in the zone. He’s a good athlete and spun it well over his four innings and punched five.

Dylan Laws (2023 RHP, Creedmoor, NC) shows a projectable frame on the bump with a short and quick arm action, driving down the mound well while running his fastball up to 80 mph, the top velocity of the day.

Terrence Rhodes (2023 RHP, Richmond, VA) showed off his two-way ability, filling up the strike zone on the mound with a mid-70s fastball and topped out at 79 mph with a tight spinner. He also connected for a loud line drive double off of Leclair in a left-on-left matchup to left-center field.

Clayton Dorsey (2024 SS, Westminster, MD) got the White team on the board in the fifth inning with a single to his pull side, plating their first run of the game.

Both Alex Stanyek (2023 OF, Holmdel, NJ) and Justin Higgins (2023 MIF, New Canaan, CT) stood out in live action for the Maroon team with defensive actions. Stanyek showed plenty of range and tracked the ball down from center field in the right-center gap while Higgins showed smooth footwork, soft hands and a strong arm across.

Dominic Brancel (2023 C, Huntsburg, OH) continued to impress with his defensive actions behind the plate as well, sticking pitches well with sound footwork and nice carry on his throws down to second base.

Andrew (AJ) Poole (2023 OF, McLean, VA) is a strong bodied righthander who settled in on the mound and showed nice life to his fastball, running the pitch up to 80 mph while challenging hitters up in the zone.

Darnell W. Parker Jr. (2023 SS, Carrollton, VA) had a nice day on both sides of the ball, displaying smooth defensive actions in the infield dirt and turned on a fastball in his final at-bat of the game with a single through the six-hole before swiping second base.

Batting Practice Highlights

4/27/2019

Darnell W. Parker Jr. (2023 SS, Carrollton, VA) did a nice job of handling the barrel during his round, creating extension out front with the same, consistent swing each pass through the zone and steady contact to his pull side.

Justin Higgins (2023 MIF, New Canaan, CT) showed balanced to his righthanded swing as well as a feel for the barrel in the batter’s box as he utilizes a long, linear plane through the zone with steady line drive contact coming off.

Jake Kozlowski (2023 OF, Langhorne, PA) has a lean and athletic frame which will continue to fill out but already looks to attack the ball out front, creating nice angle at the point of contact with jump off the barrel.

Chase Krewson (2023 OF, Bridgeville, PA) first impressed with his arm strength from the outfield before jumping into the lefthanded box. Upon digging he showed a short and direct path to the ball with quick hands and projectable tools, impacting the ball to his pull side nicely.

Marcus Leclair (2023 LHP, Oakton, VA) is listed as a primary lefthanded pitcher as well as a switch-hitter who took his best reps lefthanded. With a more natural look he showed quickness to his hands and leverage out front with jump off the barrel to his pull side and occasional back spin.

Andrew (AJ) Poole (2023 OF, McLean, VA) is one of the stronger players in attendance at 6-foot-2, 190-pounds and he utilizes that strength well. He creates some torque and when he gets his arms extended, he unlocks his pop with nice carry to the middle of the field.

Jackson Sirois (2023 SS, Sterling, VA) is only listed at 5-foot-10, 125-pounds so there is plenty of room to fill out physically, but he already showed present bat speed and a natural feel for the barrel. The ball comes off his barrel well, regularly squaring it up with repeatable mechanics.

Terrence Rhodes (2023 RHP, Richmond, VA) is another young lefthanded hitter who impressed with his present tools and what he could ultimately develop into. Though his load is busy, he possesses quick hands with some whip to the barrel and does a nice job of getting the barrel through the zone.
