Green vs Orange Game Highlights

7/23/2017

Trevor Hinkel (2019 RHP, Temecula, CA) pitched at 84-88 MPH with good arm speed.  The ball comes out clean and his velocity projects.  

Eli Ankeney (2019 LHP, Phoenix, AZ) pitched 80-84 MPH with a clean arm action.  He threw 3 pitches for strikes and threw a deceptive change up at 71 MPH with sink.

Jonathan Acosta (2018 RHP, Fpo, Sel) hit a hard double to the left center field gap.  He showed good strength in his swing with natural leverage.  Later in the game he hammered a triple off the wall in left field.  He handled the barrel well and showed pop.

Matthew Hunt (2018 OF, Murrieta, CA) squared the baseball up well at the plate hitting the ball hard to all fields.  He was aggressive on the base paths as well.

Grant Taylor (2019 RHP, Murrieta, CA) pitched at 83-85 MPH with his fastball with projectable velocity. 

Kai Saterstrom (2020 SS, Chula Vista, CA) put a good swing on an 85 MPH for a hard single up the middle.

Trayden Tamiya (2018 SS, Hilo, HI) made an outstanding diving play up the middle and threw the runner out at first base from shortstop.  It was a very athletic play!  He also hammered a hard single up the middle and showed good barrel skills.

Zac Vooletich (2018 C, Fair Oaks Ranch, TX) hammered a double off the left field wall.  He has good strength strength in his swing. 

Brandon Rho (2018 OF, Fullerton, CA) collected 2 hits in this game and hit a hard opposite field triple over the left fielders head.  He's made consistent hard contact all weekend long and showed good hitting tools and strength.

Peyton Jones (2019 LHP, South Jordan, UT) pitched at 79-82 MPH with a clean arm action.  He throws 2 types of curveballs both for strikes and showed good feel and pitchability.

Trayden Tamiya (2018 SS, Hilo, HI) is a scrappy player who made a lot of plays defensively all weekend and put together quality at bats.  He's a twitchy player who is aggressive on the base paths.

Quintt Landis (2019 C, Moorpark, CA) had two quality at bats and made hard contact in both at bats.  He didn't have anything to show for it but he squared it up well.

Noah Gomez (2018 SS, Long Beach, CA) pitched at 83-86 MPH with a quick arm action.  The ball comes out clean and he gets some run on his fastball. 

Kevin Bleier (2019 SS, Westlake Village, CA) made a lot of solid defensive plays in the game.  He showed solid actions and accurate throws.

Noah Williamson (2018 OF, Las Vegas, NV) hammered a hard triple down the left field line.  He's shown good at bats all weekend.

Carter Schmitz (2018 RHP, Queen Creek, AZ) pitched at 79-82 MPH with his fastball and located it well.  He was effective and got a ton of ground ball outs.  

Kevin Bleier (2019 SS, Westlake Village, CA) hit a hard triple over the centerfielders head.  He squared it up well and showed some strength in his swing.

Jacob Igawa (2018 C, Hilo, HI) hit a hard ball down the left field line and stretched it into a double.  He showed bat speed and good strength.

Cade Kritsch (2019 OF, Thousand Oaks, CA) collected another 2 hits in the game and showed a good approach.  He stayed back well on an outside pitch and lined it to right field.

Josh Sharman (2019 LHP, Las Vegas, NV) pitched at 78-80 MPH with some slight run on his fastball.  He threw a sharp curve ball at 67 MPH with down ward action on it.

Brandon Rho (2018 OF, Fullerton, CA) showed impressive hitting tools in BP and continued that in game.  He made loud contact in his first at bat on a deep foul ball and then stayed on a low outside curveball for a single.

Cade Schaetzl (2019 SS, Mission Viejo, CA) collected 2 hits on the game with a double and single.  

Red vs White Game Highlights

Caleb Franzen (2019 LHP, West Linn, OR) pitched at 80-84 MPH with some sink and run on his fastball.  He threw a good change up at 74-75 MPH with good sink and arm speed on it.  

William Dammeier (2019 RHP, Mercer Island, WA) pitched at 85-88 MPH with a clean arm action.  The ball comes out clean and he throws with lower effort.  

Cade Kritsch (2019 OF, Thousand Oaks, CA) hit a double the left center gap with good looseness to his swing.

Zac Vooletich (2018 C, Fair Oaks Ranch, TX) hit a hard double to the right center field gap and showed strength in his swing.  He took good swings in both at bats.

Dylan Terman (2019 1B, Westminster, CA) pitched at 79-82 MPH with a lean projectable build.  He mixes his pitches well and throws 2 pitches for strikes. 

Zack Heidenry (2018 2B, Lisle, IL) hit a double in the game and showed a quiet approach with bat speed.

Joey Bock (2018 RHP, Saint Louis, MO) pitched at 83-86 MPH with his fastball with a quick arm action.  The ball comes out clean an he has some life on his fastball.  He also threw a 10/4 slider at 72 MPH with short break and shape.  He also swung the bat well with a hard single up the middle off an 87 MPH FB.

Tyler Magin (2019 RHP, Phoenix, AZ) pitched at 85-88 MPH with a loose arm action.  The ball comes out of his hand clean and he showed a repeatable delivery.  He threw a curveball at 65 MPH with 11/5 shape and good spin.  He gets some cut action at times and run at times on his fastball.  He also made a very athletic play off the mound to throw a runner out at first base.

Noah Gomez (2018 SS, Long Beach, CA) led off the game with a hard triple off the left field wall.  He showed bat speed and an aggressive approach on the bases stretching the double into the triple.

John David Holuby (2019 SS, Acton, CA) hit a single with an RBI and showed a good piece of hitting up the middle of the field.

Jason Sharman (2018 OF, Las Vegas, NV) pitched at 76-79 MPH and located his fastball well.  He also threw a good curveball at 69 MPH with good shape and spin to it.

Jack Metzger (2018 RHP, Boerne, TX) pitched well at 81-84 MPH touching 85 MPH once.  He pitched to both sides of the plate with his fastball and located it well.  Metzger threw 3 pitches for strikes and showed feel for all of them.  

Luke Tanner (2019 SS, Los Angeles, CA) hammered a home run down the left field line.  He also hammered a double down the left field line.  He showed good barrel skills and bat speed.

Josh Cordova (2018 RHP, Antioch, CA) pitched at 82-86 MPH with his fastball with a quick arm action.  He flashed a good CH at 78 MPH with good sink and run.  Cordova also threw a curveball for strikes.  

Nick Guevarra (2020 2B, Rochester Hills, MI) made a nice play up the middle at 2B making a backhanded stop and throwing the runner at 1B.

Ryan Virata (2019 OF, Chino, CA) made an outstanding diving catch in left field robbing a sure hit.

David Nakamura (2018 LHP, Hilo, HI) collected 2 hits on the day and really battled in the box.  He stayed on the baseball well and showed a contact approach.

Michael Melody (2018 C, Houston, TX) collected 2 hits on the game with a short compact swing to the baseball.

West Academic Batting Practice Highlights

7/22/2017

Michael Melody (2018 C, Houston, TX) The 2018 catcher showed a compact, direct swing path  that generated good leverage to the gaps. When on time,  the ball jumped off the barrel with good carry. 

Josh Cordova (2018 RHP, Antioch, CA) Listed as a primary pitcher, but impressed at the plate as well. Cordova utilized an uphill swing plane while swinging with intent to drive the baseball. Created hard, loud contact off the barrel when working to the middle of the field. 

Ryan Virata (2019 OF, Chino, CA) The 5-foot-9, 150-pound outfielder showed good balance throughout his swing with rotational actions. Employed a high contact approach and created hard line drives to all fields throughout batting practice.

Noah Gomez (2018 SS, Long Beach, CA) The 2018 grad showed a spread, even stance and worked to contact well with linear actions. Gomez flashed the present bat speed and strength to drive the baseball through the alleys while aggressively turning the barrel to contact. 

Bryce Lovcik (2019 C, Plymouth, MN) The Minnesota native showed a simple, repeatable swing path that generated natural leverage through extension. Worked to all fields throughout batting practice, but flashed the ability to turn the barrel to contact and work to pull side with authority. 

Jason Sharman (2018 OF, Las Vegas, NV) The 6-foot, 177-pound outfielder utilized a  simple, repeatable swing plane generating good leverage at contact.  Stayed very balanced throughout swing and consistently manipulated barrel path to work to all fields. 

Noah Williamson (2018 OF, Las Vegas, NV) The Las Vegas native produced hard, rising line drives through batting practice on a naturally lifted plane through extension. Williamson flashed very good hand speed through the zone with the barrel control to hit all quadrants of the zone. 

Jonathan Acosta (2018 RHP, Fpo, Sel) Another primary pitcher who impressed while at the plate. Acosta utilized his present strength in frame to create bat speed through the zone. When on time and squared, baseball jumped off the  barrel generating good carry to the gaps. 

Cole Jones (2018 1B, Parker, CO) The Colorado native flashed fluid, smooth actions while delivering the barrel to contact on a leveraged plane through extension. Consistently barreled the baseball throughout batting practice working to each gap with ease. 

Quintt Landis (2019 C, Moorpark, CA) The 2019 catcher repeated a very simple, direct path to contact showing good fluidity through the zone. Landis consistently manipulated the bat head while working to all fields producing hard line drives. 

Brody Jessee (2019 RHP, Anchorage, AK) The 6-foot-4, 190-pounder flashed solid bat speed while turning the barrel head to contact. Jessee swung with intent to drive the ball and generating multiple sharp line drives to pull side. 

Cade Schaetzl (2019 SS, Mission Viejo, CA) Schaetzl showed good feel for the barrel and maintained balance throughout his swing. Consistently worked to all fields utilizing a smooth, line drive swing plane. 

Trayden Tamiya (2018 SS, Hilo, HI) The Hawaii native generated good bat speed through the zone for his 5-foot-6 frame. Tamiya utilized a direct, compact hand path that led to multiple hard hit liners to pull side.
