Will Nigut (2018 RHP, Des Moines, IA) pitched well at 85-87 MPH with his fastball with a loose projectable build. He showed feel for his curveball and threw it with some bite and shape. He projects for more velocity.
Ryne Schooley (2018 LHP, Iowa City, IA) pitched at 83-85 MPH with his fastball with good sink and run on it. He also threw his curveball for strikes and showed improving stuff.
Graham Woods (2018 LHP, Cedar Rapids, IA) pitched at 80-83 MPH with his fastball and located it well. He threw 3 pitches for strikes and competed in the zone well.
Connor Reed (2019 RHP, Richland, IA) showed good arm strength pitching at 83-86 MPH. He flashed an occasional sharp breaking ball for strikes.
Draeden Spang (2019 RHP, Cedar Rapids, IA) pitched well at 79-83 MPH with his fastball and missed a lot of barrels. He threw his curveball for strikes and competed well.
Kyle Oberbroeckling (2018 RHP, Davenport, IA) pitched at 79-82 MPH with his fastball and threw a lot of strikes. He threw his curveball for strikes and it showed some bite to it.
Leo Markotic (2018 3B, Mississauga, ON) had good at bats all game long and barreled the ball up consistently. He hit a hard single up the middle and a hard double to the right field gap.
Tyler Shelley (2019 SS, Parker, CO) had good at bats in the game and hit the ball hard a couple times. He's a twitchy player with quick hands.
Martin Vincelli-Simard (2018 C, Boisbriand, QC) received the ball well behind the plate and took some good swings at the plate.
Mark Shallenberger (2019 1B, Ballwin, MO) swung the bat well and made solid barrel contact.

Brayden Frazier (2018 SS, Cedar Rapids, IA) showed a balanced swing at the plate with great bat speed. Good weight transfer in his swing.
Luke Patzner (2018 RHP, Urbandale, IA) threw from a 3/4 arm slot with an easy arm action and good mechanics on the mound. He showed a good fastball at 87-90 mph.
Luke Llewellyn (2018 RHP, Urbandale, IA) showed a long arm action on the mound and arm worked well. Fastball was 83-86 mph with a 11-5 breaking CB at 68 mph.
Jacob Bockenstedt (2018 RHP, Cedar Rapids, IA) showed a quick tempo on the mound and projectable stuff on the mound. Fastball was 85-87 mph.
Spring Top Batting Practice Highlights
4/29/2017
Calvin Harris (2020 C, Peosta, IA) The 2020 grad from Peosta, IA repeated a compact, direct swing plane that generated consistent hard line drive contact to all fields throughout batting practice.
Austin Krob (2018 LHP, Lisbon, IA) Listed as a primary pitcher but impressed during batting practice showing a smooth, repeatable line drive swing and produced good jump off the barrel between the outfield gaps.
Adrian Cotton Jr (2017 RHP, Gretna, NE) The Concordia University (Nebraska) commit created explosive contact to all fields throughout batting practice showcasing some of the best raw power from the left side of the plate. Cotton Jr continues to show the tools to be a very productive hitter at the next level.
Jordan Wendel (2017 C, Schaller, IA) The 6-foot-1, 210-pound catcher generated good lift through extension while staying behind contact well. Wendel, a Butler commit, has the barrel control and bat speed to hit with authority to all fields.
Max Slavens (2019 SS, Bettendorf, IA) The 2019 grad swung with extreme intent to drive the baseball with authority. Slavens showed his best swing with power to all fields when staying fluid and loose to the baseball.
Ian Moller (2021 C, Dubuque, IA) The 2021 grad showed one of the most pure and polished swings of the day. Moller works to contact on a direct path and generated good leverage through extension that produced consistent hard line drives.
Leo Markotic (2018 3B, Mississauga, ON) The Canadian native worked to the baseball with linear lower half actions that created good shift into the baseball. Markotic stayed very balanced throughout his swing, but also flashed the ability to turn the barrel to contact and work to pull side with authority.
Tyler Shelley (2019 SS, Parker, CO) The 2019 shortstop showed an even, balanced stance with a level plane through extension. Shelley consistently squared the baseball throughout batting practice while showing present bat speed.
Pat Diemer (2017 OF, West Des Moines, IA) The Central College commit showed balanced, rotational lower half while working to contact while his top half work through extension on an uphill plane. When staying compact to contact, Diemer flashed solid line drop pop to the outfield gaps.
Nic McCay (2018 RHP, Carlisle, IA) Another primary pitcher who impressed during batting practice, McCay showed excellent barrel control throughout the zone. The 2018 grad also showed good leverage at contact when working to pull side.
Braden Barker (2018 C, Loveland, CO) The 2018, Colorado native had a very repeatable, direct swing and consistently squared up the baseball with strength to all parts of the fields.
Carter Baumler (2020 RHP, Grimes, IA) The 2020 primary pitcher also showed a smooth, line drive swing in batting practice. Baumier works to contact on a very smooth, direct path that generated solid leverage through extension.
Jorge Figueroa (2020 2B, Southlake, TX) Another 2020 grad with a simple, smooth swing plane. Figueroa flashed a very mature approach while at the plate with the ability to consistently produce hard line drives to all fields.
Thomas Grilli (2017 SS, Mississauga, ON) The 2017 Canadian Shortstop produced very good bat whip through the zone that generated explosive contact between each of the outfield gaps.
Zachery Smith (2018 1B, Jeffersonton, VA) The 6-foot-3, 210-pound first baseman has good strength throughout his frame. Smith, a Virginia native, showed a gap to gap approach with the strength and bat speed to be a serious power threat in the middle of the line up.
Izaya Ono-Fullard (2017 3B, North Liberty, IA) Showed a very mature, calm approach at the plate with the ability to consistently repeat a line drive swing plane that produced hard contact between the gaps.
Jaden Rolffs (2018 C, Pella, IA) Stays on the baseball well flashing very good extension to the middle of the field. Baseball jumped off the barrel well when working to gap producing solid backspin.
David Mendham (2017 C, Dorchester, ON) The 6-foot-2, 195-pound catcher produced good linear lower half shift into contact. Showed the balance to work to all fields, but also flashed the ability to aggressively turn the barrel to contact and work to pull side with authority.
Braden Montgomery (2021 OF, Madison, MS) Flashed a very mature approach from both sides of the plate with the ability to repeat his swing plane. With continued physical maturity, Montgomery projects to be a consistent threat at the top of the line up.
David McCabe (2018 3B, Courtice, ON) The 6-foot-4, 215-pound switch hitter showed the rare combination of bat speed and raw power from each side of the plate. McCabe consistently produced explosive contact to the pull side gap from the right and left side.

Jarrett Blunt (2018 RHP, Ottumwa, IA) showed a short arm action on the mound and good extension out front. Showed a good curveball at 67 mph with tight spin.
Nic McCay (2018 RHP, Carlisle, IA) showed good balance on the mound with good actions on the mound and ran his FB up to 87 mph.
