2021 Sunshine Northeast (06/05/2021 - 06/06/2021)

4-Cardinal v. 8-Orange Game Highlights  >>

6/6/2021 8:18:59 PM

Bradley Gagen (2022 LHP, Ashburn, VA)- was electric during his three innings of work, as the young left-hander ran his fastball up to 91 mph early before settling in the 84-87 mph range for the duration of his outing. The University of Tennessee commit threw three pitches for strikes in any count, tunneling his well-replicated changeup that flashed good fade and power depth to it. His slider is still in the developmental stages with a promising spin profile that will improve as he gets more consistent with his release point. The 2022 grad should continue to see an uptick in his velocity as he continues to add strength.

Angel Deaza (2023 1B, Elizabeth, NJ)- showed the ability to adjust well within his at-bat, as he sat back to drive a double to left field. The young 2023 grad incorporates simple swing mechanics with looseness to his hands, generating tons of present bat speed and good control of his barrel. Deaza collected two hits in this one.

Matt Archibald (2022 RHP, Churchville, MD)- continued to make loud contact in this one, as he found the barrel in three of his at-bats. The strongly built 2022 grad stays fairly simple with his stroke, creating good hip torque and quickness with his hands to deliver the barrel with authority.

Hayden Miller (2022 SS, Sandy Hook, CT)- continued to showcase his versatility as the primary shortstop ran his fastball up to 86 mph out of the 'pen. The durably built right-hander uses drop and drive lower half mechanics to explode down the slope, while working from a loose three-quarters arm slot. He mixed in a slower 11-5 shaped curveball for both strikes and swings-and-misses, tunneling it effectively to mimic his fastball release. The Sandy Hook, Conn. native has impressed on both sides of the ball all weekend.
5-Columbia Blue v. 7-Navy Game Highlights  >>

6/6/2021 5:34:49 PM

Cameron Rizzo (2023 SS, Glen Allen, VA)- collected two hits in this one, as the primary middle-infielder showed good barrel skills and a short, direct path to the baseball. Rizzo implores good usage of his lower half and quick hands to deliver the barrel on-time with authority.

Xavier Sjostedt (2023 LHP, Furlong, PA)- was impressive during his three innings of work today, as the long, lanky left-hander ran his fastball up to 82 mph from a true three-quarters arm slot. The 2023 grad allowed just 1 hit, while striking out five hitters along the way. Sjostedt repeats his delivery well, as he creates tons of deception with his higher, coiled leg lift and various moving parts. He mixed in a slurve shaped breaking ball that will continue to develop as he refines it's spin profile and consistency.

Nicholas Barracato (2022 RHP, Howell, NJ)- was another intriguing arm, as the right-hander worked three scoreless innings of his own in relief of Sjostedt. The 2022 grad ran his fastball up to 83 mph early on, while pounding the zone frequently and garnering tons of weak contact. Barracato mixed in a slower breaking ball for both strikes and swings-and-misses, flashing the ability to manipulate it's shape dependent on the purpose. The strong, durably built righty has good feel for pitching and should add a tick or two more of velocity as he continues to mature.

William Gumbrell (2022 C, Burlington, VT)- swung a hot bat in this one, collecting two loud line drives in his two at-bats. The durable framed backstop shows strength through contact and the ability to deliver the barrel with authority.

Michael Lazaridis (2024 SS, Medford, NY)- showed quickness to his hands and a short, direct swing path, doubling to left center field in this one. The primary middle-infielder incorporates his lower half well to turn the barrel, while staying compact with his hands through contact.

6/6/2021 4:40:19 PM

David Rodriguez (2024 RHP, Trevose, PA) got the start for Royal and showed off solid arm strength, running his fastball up to 87 mph early as it was jumping out of his hand. He filled the strike zone mixed in a breaking ball in the low-70s. He also showed off his strength with a line drive single through the right side in his first trip to the plate.

Tyler McDowell (2022 OF, Teaneck, NJ) went with an outer half 83 mph fastball in his first at-bat for a line drive single down the left field line. That knock set the tone for his next at-bat, again going to the left-center field gap on an 85 mph fastball, this time for a three base hit.

Ben Huckans (2022 SS, Broadalbin, NY) barreled up a double in his first at-bat of the game, sending it deep to the pull side, continuing to show well this showcase.

Zander Tesoriere (2022 SS, Massapequa, NY) added a double of his own for the Green team, also going the other way as he split the gap in right-center field.

Jacob Fink (2023 OF, Clarks Summit, PA) got to put his sub-7 speed on display in center field as he went after a fly ball and made a sliding play in the gap to take away what could’ve been extra bases.

Richard Ratchford III (2022 RHP, Huntington, NY) got some defensive revenge for Royal with an outstanding catch of his own, tracking back in left field to make an over-the-shoulder catch just shy of the fence to rob what was easy extra bases.

Dario Sosa (2023 OF, Waterbury, CT) put a charge into one in his final at-bat of the showcase, utilizing his strong 6-3/195 frame to barrel a double off the left field wall that jumped off of the barrel.

Jamel Vera Jr. (2022 OF, Staten Island, NY) followed with a loud barrel of his own, turning around a fastball for a well struck single through the right side and promptly took second base on the throw to home.

Miles Brodey (2022 OF, South Pasadena, CA) found a pair of barrels in his first two at-bats of the game, opening up with a loud barrel to deep center field for a fly out. In his next trip however, he went with an outer half fastball and squared it up for a double past the right fielder, coasting into second with ease. He followed up his first double with another two bagger, this time going down the right field line to score a run.

James Pease (2024 RHP, Mechanicsville, MD) filled the strike zone for the Black club throughout his time on the mound, running his fastball up to 78 mph with short life to his heater. He mixed in a breaking ball regularly and struck out the side in the first before inducing weak ground ball contact the rest of the way.

Max McGlone (2023 C, Doylestown, PA) connected for a loud single through the right side in his second trip to the plate. He’s a primary backstop and showed off his big time arm strength on a throw to first which took off out of his hand. Later in the game, with the infield drawn in, McGlone snuck a single past the shortstop to plate a run.

John Wells (2022 SS, Ballston Spa, NY) got things going for the Purple team late in the game with first pitch swinging double to deep right-center field, getting his arms extended at contact.

Gunnar Grethen-McLaughlin (2022 C, North Chatham, NY), in his final at-bat of the game, doubled into left-center field, helping to spark the offense for Black.

Purple got the offense going early with their first two hitters, Tommy Diffley (2024 1B, Freehold, NJ) and Chris Hendrickson (2023 OF, Ronkonkoma, NY), picking up singles as Diffley went back up the middle on a fastball down before Hendrickson spun around a curveball on his hands into right field. Matthew Mulato (2023 SS, Leonia, NJ) followed suit with a single of his own up the middle, plating the second run of the game for the club.

Calder Glassman (2024 RHP, New York, NY) was mightily impressive in his outing as the uncommitted right-hander ran his fastball up to 87 mph in the first inning. He has a long and projectable 6-foot-2 frame and a quick arm, pumping the strike zone while showing a slider in the low-70s.
