5-Green vs. 6-White Game Highlights

8/6/2023

Dalton Vandeburgh (2028, Cottonwood, CA) found multiple barrels, including a loud RBI triple to center field late in the ballgame. A simple approach works through the middle of the field consistently, allowing for barrels to be found often.

Cade Petterson (2027, Medford, OR) showed intriguing stuff during his start. The fastball got up to 72 mph with armside run. Feel for a slider and fading changeup were shown, keeping hitters off balance.

Adam Ornelas (2027, Madera, CA) hammered a ball to deep right-center field for a triple. A slightly lofted path combines with strong hands at contact to produce solid gap to gap power. A slender frame projects well for more down the line.

Alex Preap (2028, Stockton, CA) recorded a hard hit single late in the ballgame. Loose hands create a whippy barrel through the zone with the ability to get the bat head out front.

Caymen “Tiger” Renk (2027, Pleasanton, CA) drove home a run late with an RBI single to center field. A strong hit tool continues to stand out and produce hard hit line drives to all fields.

4-Gold vs. 5-Green Game Highlights

8/6/2023

Alejandro Nuno (2028, Carson City, NV) got the offense started with a single to center field. Good speed was shown immediately with a stolen base, setting the tone early on.

Graham Sanger (2027, Oakland, CA) showed off quality opposite field power on a double to deep right field. A simple, linear swing gets the barrel on plane early and allows for balls to be hit hard to all fields.

Cruz Hernandez (2027, South Lake Tahoe, CA) found a barrel late in the game, lining a ball into left field for a base hit. A tall, slender frame projects well for more power down the line.

Julian Gonzalez (2027, Vacaville, CA) continued to impress at the plate with a loud barrel to center field. A strong frame generates hard contact often with power showing gap to gap.

4-Gold vs. 6-White Game Highlights

8/6/2023

Wyatt Ford (2027, Redwood Valley, CA) found a barrel on a hard hit double into the right field corner. Good strength and a sound approach helps drive balls to all fields.

Mariano Gonzalez (2027, Fairfield, CA) was dominant during his start on the bump. The lefthander ran the fastball up to 87 mph. Both a sweeping slider and depthy curveball kept hitters honest. The pitch mix can overwhelm hitters often.

Merrick Lee (2027, Menlo Park, CA) laced a ball back up the middle for a base hit. Quick bat speed stands out while showing strength at contact. Quality speed plays on the bases and allowed for a stolen base right after.

Jacob Cole (2028, Rocklin, CA) found one of the louder barrels of the game on an RBI triple to deep left-center field. A sound approach stays through the middle of the field. Solid athleticism and speed were shown on the bases.

Julian Gonzalez (2027, Vacaville, CA) hammered a ball to deep left field for a double late in the game. A strong frame plays well in the box and can generate quality power pullside.

Seth Pratt (2027, Reno, NV) lined a ball hard into left field for an RBI single. Strong hands at contact help produce hard contact often, especially to the pullside.

13u/14u Northern California Prospect Batting Practice Highlights

Danny De La Torre (2027, Temecula, CA) showcased good strength at contact with the ability to get extended. Quality power was shown throughout the round, driving balls well to all fields.

Joe Tanno Jr. (2027, McKinleyville, CA) utilizes a slightly lofted path with good hand speed to drive balls well into both gaps. There is good strength at contact that should only continue to develop.

Mariano Gonzalez (2027, Fairfield, CA) showed some of the better bat speed throughout his round. Quick hands allow the bat head to get out front and do damage pullside when squared up.

Cayman “Tiger” Renk (2027, Pleasanton, CA) showed off a sound approach with the ability to consistently produce hard hit line drives through the big part of the field. Quality pullside power was flashed throughout the round, making for an intriguing profile.

Jackson Gray (2027, Newcastle, CA) looked to do damage throughout his round and did just that. Good bat speed and extension out front helps drive balls with authority to the pullside when squared up.

Cade Petterson (2027, Medford, OR) displayed good feel for the barrel throughout his round. Quick hands get the bat head out front and allows for hard contact to the pullside.

Wyatt Hurley (2027, Medford, OR) showed off strong hands at contact using a linear path through the zone. A pullside approach was shown with power that plays in that direction when barreled.

Jacob Cole (2028, Rocklin, CA) utilized a linear path through the zone with quick hand speed present. Feel for the barrel resulted in hard contact to the pullside throughout the round.

Steven Luna (2027, Kerman, CA) showed both a sound gap to gap approach and quick bat speed. Advanced barrel accuracy allowed for quality contact consistently throughout his round.

Merrick Lee (2027, Menlo Park, CA) put together a solid round from both sides of the plate. Good intent and bat speed were shown both ways with solid pullside power throughout the round.

Adam Ornelas (2027, Madera, CA) consistently stayed through the middle of the field during his round. A linear path and feel for the barrel allowed for hard hit line drives often.

4-Gold vs. 5-Green Game Highlights

8/5/2023

Joe Tanno Jr. (2027, McKinleyville, CA) threw three dominant shutout innings where he gave up just one hit and struck out six. Tanno showed a clean and repeatable delivery. His fastball sat in the mid 70s and topped out at 77 where he got good extension on it and showed quality life and carry for the velocity. He mixed in a developing curveball in the low 60s that was more of a ball-strike pitch that he could land for strikes. Tanno also barreled one into the right center gap for a double in one of his ABs of the day.

Azael Avalos (2028, Lincoln, CA) was one of the better strike throwers of the 13U/14U group on Saturday and it showed with three shutout innings where he struck out five. Avalos has a real easy and repeatable delivery where he pounded the strike zone with a mid 70s fastball but showed advanced secondary stuff with a sharp upper 60s slider and a changeup that had good depth and killed a lot of spin on.

Julian Gonzalez (2027, Vacaville, CA) was the hardest thrower of the group on Saturday running his fastball up to 80 and that sat in the high 70s throughout. Gonzalez struck out five In just two innings of work as hitters were consistently late on his fastball but he also mixed in a sharp lateral slider in the high 60s that induced a lot of buckle and whiff. It’s a loose arm that generates easy arm speed at release.

Dalton Vandeburgh (2028, Cottonwood, CA) had the lone hit off of Gonzalez and it was a clutch one. It was a hard knock back up the box off an 79 mph fastball where he shortened up and just let his hands play. He ended up stealing second and scoring on two consecutive wild pitches that was the difference in a 1-0 win for Team Green.

6-White vs. 5-Green Game Highlights

8/5/2023

Kayden Williams (2027, Redding, CA) showed advanced stuff for a ’27 grad in his three shutout innings of work for Team Green. Showed an athletic operation with a quick arm where he ran his fastball up to 79. His go to secondary was a changeup that showed quality depth and fade and that induced several whiffs. He only gave up one hit and struck out five.

Adam Ornelas (2027, Madrea, CA) of Team White went three shutout innings as well. Showed a deceptive delivery where he sets a high glove arm and pulls down hard from a higher 3/4 slot which hides it a bit till release. His low 70s fastball showed some natural cutting action and his breaking ball exhibited downer break and buckled some hitters. He struck out three and gave up two hits in his three innings.

Cayman “Tiger” Renk (2027, Pleasanton, CA) came in relief for Team Green and went two shutout innings and struck out three. Showed a loose arm action that worked clean to release. He used a fastball/slider mix that he had feel for throughout. Renk also had the loudest barrel of the game will a pullside double to the left field wall where he recognized a hanging breaking ball and caught it out front.

Jacob Cole (2028, Rocklin, CA) was able to hold down the Green lineup for his own two shutout innings of work. Showed spotty command but was able to work through it by avoiding barrels and living glove side with his fastball getting a lot of taken strikes on the outside corner. Also mixed in a slurvy breaking ball he would leak armside at times but showed quality shape.

6-White vs. 4-Gold Game Highlights

8/5/2023

Joseph Angelo (2026, Moraga, CA) went three shutout innings for Team White where he struck out five. He pounded gloveside with his high 70s fastball topping out at 79. Also mixed in a slurvy breaking ball in the low-mid 70s. It’s a loose arm that works with easy quickness to release. His 6-foot-2, 160-pound frame projects well on the mound.

Noah Mena (2027, Livermore, CA) got the start for Team Gold and went three solid innings giving up two two runs which weren’t earned. He has some deception in the delivery where he works to a lower 3/4 slot which creates some natural armside run and sink to his mid 70s fastball that got consistently under barrels. Also mixed in a developing slider that flashed some upside.

Danny De La Torre (2027, Temecula, CA) relieved Mena and went two shutout innings of his own for Team Gold. His FB worked up to 74 and showed some natural cutting action to it. Mixed in a larger developing curveball at 58-60 he showed he could flip over for strikes whenever he wanted.

Brady Patterson (2027, Medford, OR) had a two hit day for Team White. With his two hits he showed some intent to catch barrels out front with two singles to right. It’s a smooth and rhythmic left-handed swing where he gets good extension through contact.
