North Carolina State Wolfpack

2025 Highlights: As they seem to do every year, Elliott Avent and staff pushed the right buttons and found the right pieces to put together another successful season. Despite massive losses to the draft after their 2024 run to the CWS, the Wolfpack grinded out 35 wins and finished 4th in the ACC regular season standings. It took the offense a while to establish its identity but eventually got cranking as they hit .291 and averaged 7.5 runs per game. The pitching rotation was well established, and the bullpen excelled with young arms. They secured an at-large bid as the 2-seed in the Auburn Regional where they reached the championship game before ending their season.

Impact Returners:

· Sophomore righty Anderson Nance (3.50, 8-2, 18 app, 1 save, 54.0 IP, 53:11 K:BB) lockdown long reliever with mid-90s heater and wipeout slider

· Junior Ryan Marohn (3.38, 8-3, 14 starts, 85.1 IP, 91:19 K:BB) lefthander who pitched for the CNT and anchors the rotation with 4-pitch mix

· Heath Andrews (6.02, 4-3, 14 starts, 64.1 IP, 53:22 K:BB) has added physicality to help his sinker that reaches 95 and cutter/slider combo

· Jacob Dudan (3.90, 2-2, 22 app, 5 saves, 30.0 IP, 41:17 K:BB) making a run at the rotation in ’26 with his upper-90s heater and low-90s slider

· Junior Chris McHugh (.365/.533/.462, 12 doubles, 7 HR, 48 RBI) continues to trend upwards, should have big year and receive significant draft interest

· Draft eligible sophomore Ty Head (.274/.402/.433, 11 doubles, 4 HR, 33 RBI) elite plate discipline, with high-level defensive skills and could go off the board early

· Senior Brayden Fraasman (.279/.498/.329, 12 doubles, 11 HR, 47 RBI) could have started pro career but returned for senior season, big time tool set

· Luke Nixon (.295/.459/.386, 15 doubles, 5 HR, 42 RBI) veteran blue-collar infielder who can play all three positions and grinds every AB

Intriguing Newcomers:

· UNCG transfer Julien Peissel (transferred in 2025 but missed entire year with injury) is a RHP with mid-90s heat and devastating splitter/slider combo

· RHP Collins Black (8.68, 8 app, 9.1 IP, 18:5 K:BB) comes in from Duke and will add depth on the mound with his mid-90s fastball and quality spin

· Freshman Aiden Kitchings is a physical RHP with two plus offerings in a fastball that will reach the mid-90s

· Tennessee transfer Dalton Bargo (.272/.559/.366, 14 doubles, 14 HR, 40 RBI) will infuse lefthanded juice into the lineup

· LSU transfer Mikey Ryan (redshirted in 2025) but has the skillset to compete for time in the middle infield with tremendous offensive upside

· Watch for Christian Serrano (brother of former Pack great Eli) who enters college early this spring, the 6-5/200 infielder could be a factor down the stretch

2026 Outlook: This club has the most depth and experience on the mound of any Wolfpack club in recent memory. Chris Hart always builds one of the best offenses in the nation. So, the ’26 version on paper looks like it could be one of the most exciting clubs in the nation. Health and the progression of some of the young talent could see Coach Avent leading his troops to another trip to Omaha and maybe his first ever ACC championship.

Cincinnati Bearcats

2025 Highlights: The Bearcats made a profound statement opening weekend in ’25 when they stormed into Durham, NC and took a series from the nationally ranked Duke Blue Devils. However, they would follow that by going (2-2) at UNLV and then lost 3 of 4 at UC San Diego. Cincinnati is becoming well known for playing Bischel Ball in honor of their head coach where they play an ultra-aggressive offensive style that stresses opposing defenders. They stole 134 bags a year ago and were spectacular with the leather. Ultimately, they would navigate a difficult schedule on their way to 33 wins, a 16-14 record in the Big 12 and landed an at-large bid to the Knoxville Regional, their first NCAA appearance since 2019.

Impact Returners:

· Junior catcher Jack Natili (.338/.556/.451, 14 doubles, 9 HR, 53 RBI) is one of the best prospects in the nation at his position, could be early Day 2 draft or better

· Quinton Coats (.315/.541/.400, 7 doubles, 6 HR, 16 RBI) is a sophomore corner infielder with significant upside and primed for a breakout season

· Red-shirt sophomore Charlie Niehaus (.280/.390/.376, 9 doubles, 21 RBI, 21 SB) steady shortstop with emerging offensive tools and impact footspeed

· Junior RHP Nate Taylor (3.93, 7-2, 15 starts, 87.0 IP, 91:36 K:BB) is a workhorse and one of the best pitching prospects in the league with mid-90s heater and slider

· Carson Marsh (7.50, 3-6, 24 app, 9 starts, 42.0 IP, 51:24 K:BB) is a junior who will anchor the bullpen with his riding 94 mph fastball and late barrel-missing slider

· Junior LHP Brenden Garula (3.48, 2-0, 24 app, 8 starts, 41.1 IP, 43:20 K:BB in 2024) coming back from Tommy John surgery, can handle any role with quality 4-pitch mix

Intriguing Newcomers:

· Freshman Enzo Infelise is a strong, mature offensive threat that should get plenty of at bats and will be the catcher of the future

· Nolan Jaworowski is a monstrous 6-5/230 freshman with massive pop in the stick and could find himself in the middle of the lineup by years end

· Tooled up freshman Jackson Reardon held off starting his professional career to honor his commitment and is a big piece of the future

· North Dakota State transfer Logan Knight (4.54, 5-6, 15 starts, 83.1 IP, 68:28 K:BB) logs innings and gives a staff length with an intriguing 3-pitch mix

· Dillon Schueler (5.53, 6-7, 15 starts, 83.0 IP, 62:33 K:BB) transfers in from Illinois-Chicago fills up the zone with a plus heater and cutter/slider blend

· ULM transfer Brennan Eager (3.79, 4-4, 13 starts, 54.2 IP, 48:9 K:BB) a southpaw who is an elite strike thrower and can throw any of his four offerings for strikes at anytime

2026 Outlook: Bischel and staff made an emphasis to upgrade their talent and depth on the bump, where they fell a bit short when it was all said and done last year. If they hit on some of their transfer arms, the ’26 season could be groundbreaking yet again for the program. With 10 of their first 18 games at home, the Bearcats should enter Big 12 play in good shape and ready to compete in the top half of the league. If they get big years out of a couple of their freshman sticks, maybe they compete for the regular season championship. Regardless, you should expect to see Cincinnati in the NCAA tournament for back-to-back seasons for the first time in history.

Penn State Nittany Lions

2025 Highlights: The Nittany Lions won 33 games last season, the most wins the program has experienced in State College in a quarter of a century. The offense was a problem for opponents all season as they averaged just under eight runs per game while setting program records in doubles and stolen bases. They finished with a 15-15 record in Big 10 play and beat Washington and Southern Cal in the conference tournament in Omaha, NE before ending their season with a loss to Nebraska.

Impact Returners:

· Redshirt junior, Byrce Molinaro (.267/.502/.373, 13 HR, 61 RBI, 8 SB) 17th round by the Washington Nationals in 2025

· Senior Jesse Jaconski (.218/.379/.325, 14 doubles, 6 HR, 31 RBI, 11 SB) will provide protection for Molinaro

· Dimond Loosli (5-1, 3.82, 22 app, 33.0 IP, 30:13 K:BB) is a reliable, senior righty that should give the club security at the backend with his sinker/slider combination

· Sophomore Matthew VanOstenbridge (2-1, 4.32, 23 app, 41.2 IP, 38:14 K:BB) is a lefty that could stabilize the staff in ’26 with an advanced swing and miss changeup

· Watch for junior Mason Butash (3-1, 7.18, 15 app, 36.1 IP, 30:21 K:BB) to take a step forward with his fastball that reaches 96 mph and two quality breaking balls

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-media-max-width="560"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Preston Yaucher (&#39;25, WI) staying short to contact with the ability to drive balls gap to gap. <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/PennState?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#PennState</a> commit <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/PGNational?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#PGNational</a> <a href="https://t.co/srcaxQaKTt">pic.twitter.com/srcaxQaKTt</a></p>&mdash; PG Showcases (@PGShowcases) <a href="https://twitter.com/PGShowcases/status/1807851990195785746?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">July 1, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Intriguing Newcomers:

· Vanderbilt transfer Jayden Davis (‘24, .315/.435/.394, 36 RBI, 12 SB) is primed for season after a monster sophomore campaign but only saw sporadic action a year ago

· Lefthander Spencer Barnett (.278/.443/.336, 5 doubles, 4 HR, 26 RBI) makes his way north from West Virginia and adds a sweet swing with plate discipline

· D3 Trinity transfer, Maddox McDonald (.338/.615/.450, 18 doubles, 10 HR, 61 RBI, 19 SB) flashes a unique 5-tool skillset

· Freshman Preston Yaucher has the skillset to compete for time in the middle infield and possesses a power/speed offensive threat

· Maine transfer Colin Fitzgerald (5.68, 5-6, 14 starts, 88.2 IP, 78:33 K:BB) and his mid-90s fastball could be an anchor for a staff that struggled at times in ’25

· Kyle Emmons (3.67, 3-2, 19 app, 3 saves, 27.0 IP, 27:11 K:BB) is a power arm, transferring in from Towson, and will sit in the mid-90s with his fastball

2026 Outlook: Momentum is real under the leadership of Mike Gambino as he prepares for his third season at the helm. The program has thrived under his high-pressure style of offense that he teaches, and they are a fundamentally sound team. The key to the Nittany Lions making their first NCAA appearance since 2000 most likely depends on how well they have upgraded their depth on the mound. This club will score runs aplenty, they have some exciting additions offensively and if they hit on their transfer arms this could be the year Penn State is part of the upper echelon of the Big Ten. Regardless, this will be a fun team to watch, and they will be a difficult series for any and all opponents.

Arkansas Razorbacks

2025 Highlights: One of the best teams in the country a year ago, the Razorbacks registered 50 wins for the second time since 2021 and finished 2nd in the SEC regular season. Their offense had a banner year batting .309 as a team with 127 homeruns and they dominated on the mound as usual with a 3.84 ERA backed up by one of the cleanest defenses that fielded .983 on the year. Arkansas would host and win the Regional and Super Regional on their way to another run in Omaha where they would see their season end in the semifinal round.

Impact Returners:

· Junior Gabe Gaeckle (4.42, 4-2, 19 app, 9 starts, 2 saves, 71.1 IP, 92:31 K:BB) should lead the rotation with his upper-90s heater and extensive off-speed selection

· Cole Gibler (3.99, 3-2, 20 app, 1 save, 29.1 IP, 57:12 K:BB) is an elite sophomore lefty who’s stellar summer with the CNT sets him up for a run at the rotation

· Senior Parker Coil (1.27, 3-0, 20 app, 1 save, 21.1 IP, 24:2 K:BB) was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 16th round but returned to school and will be a major factor

· Junior Ryder Helfrick (.305/.616/.420, 10 doubles, 15 HR, 38 RBI) will handle the catching duties and be the cornerstone for the club offensively and defensively

· Kuhio Aloy (.317/.539/.404, 15 doubles, 13 HR, 70 RBI) is one of the most prolific run producers in the nation and should be a premium draft in July

· Rising junior Cam Kozeal (.333/.606/.386, 18 doubles, 15 HR, 62 RBI) could be a Day 1 draft and a candidate for the 2026 Golden Spikes Award

Intriguing Newcomers:

· Freshman RHP Mark Brissey is a Fayetteville product with some of the best stuff in the nation as a newcomer with a fastball that will reach the upper-90s

· Jordan Martin is another freshman arm that could see time with his 6-6/225 frame setting the stage for his low-90s heater and sweeping slider

· Texas Tech transfer TJ Pompey (.348/.403/.623, 4 doubles, 5 HR, 15 RBI) was sensational in limited time last season

· Carson Brumbaugh is a freshman infielder that is physically mature with the actions and moxie to compete for the starting role at shortstop

· Vanderbilt Ethan McElvain (7.24, 2-3, 16 app, 1 save, 27.1 IP, 45:28 K:BB) will be special if he puts it all together as the lefty flashes a fastball up to 98 with power breakers

· Maika Niu (.276/.346/.560, 14 doubles, 15 HR, 52 RBI, 14 SB) moves over from Marshall for his senior year after winning the MVP award in the Cape this summer

2026 Outlook: There are very few programs that consistently churn out wins and MLB prospects like Dave Van Horn and staff do in Fayetteville. This year’s club will be no different as they return talented and experienced offensive studs and once again will field one of the deepest pitching staffs around. The unbalanced SEC schedule falls favorably for the Razorbacks, and they will be the odds-on favorite to win the regular season. So, fans should once again be prepared to purchase tickets for the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament to be held at Baum-Walker Stadium before another trek to Omaha.

College Top 25: Final Update

Vincent Cervino
Article Image
With a postseason run for the ages, the Oklahoma Sooners (43-23) took home the National Championship and naturally finish the 2026 season as our No. 1 team in the land.  It is the third national title for the Sooners, playing in their 12th CWS and making their fourth championship series appearance.  They add to previous national titles won in 1951 and 1994 and did it by taking the most difficult path of any team in this year’s tournament.  In the NCAA Tournament, Oklahoma took down national seeds, No. 2 Georgia Tech twice, No. 3 Georgia twice, No. 5 UNC twice, No. 7 Alabama and No. 15 Kansas twice.  This was the second time that head coach Skip Johnson has led the Sooners to the CWS Championship Series since 2022 and the first time he has taken home the crown.  The North Carolina Tarheels (54-14) was one win away from their first national title and finish...

Performance Baseball Rolls On

Kinley Kitchens
Article Image
Championship teams often reveal themselves when the game isn’t going their way. Performance Baseball 2028/Milwaukee Brewers Scout Team did exactly that. Trailing Florida Burn 2028 Scout through four innings, the Brewers refused to panic. Instead, they relied on timely hitting, consistent pitching, and an unselfish approach at the plate, rallying a five-run fifth inning before pulling away for a 9-5 victory to clinch their spot in the semifinals. The comeback was fueled by contributions throughout the lineup. Six different players drove in runs, including two RBIs each from Aiden Capobianco and Cameron Massey, while Matthew Heredia, Parker Weston, Ethan Smith, and Aj Bonnette each added an RBI of their own. On the mound, Derek Wenzel set the tone with 3.2 solid innings before Ethan Smith shut the door in relief, helping preserve the comeback victory. Although the Brewers have had a...

Emily Hicks
Article Image
JK Select Hawaii capped off an impressive tournament run by defeating GBG Vegas 14u Red14-4 in the championship game on Sunday at Goodyear Ballpark, claiming the 14u West World Series title. From the opening pitch, JK Select controlled the pace of the game. The offense jumped out early, scoring 6 runs in the 1st inning after timely hits from MVP Sean Shindo and Kade Manarpaac. The early lead gave the pitching staff confidence as they worked efficiently through the opposing lineup. “I've worked hard to get better at my game for the past few months; it means a lot that I did well and performed in a tournament like this” said Shindo. Starting pitcher Maddox Prones turned in a strong performance, allowing 3 runs while striking out 5 batters over 3 innings. The defense backed the effort with great plays in the middle infield, preventing GBG Vegas from building momentum....

Kinley Kitchens
Article Image
On the second day of the 2026 Perfect Game National Elite Championship, one swing turned heads across the ballpark. The next one brought everyone to a stop. With Wow Factor Nation 16U trailing midway through its matchup against Sandlot Scout Team 2028, Micheal O'Connor launched a solo home run to spark the offense. Just one batter later, Aaron Frink stepped into the box and sent another ball over the fence, delivering back-to-back home runs that quickly became one of the most talked about moments of the tournament’s opening days. Parents gathered along the nets, players from previous games stopped to watch, and college scouts turned their attention toward the action as the two towering swings energized the crowd and brought new life to the game. Although Wow Factor Nation ultimately lost 5-3 after a hard-fought performance, the back-to-back home runs served as a reminder of the...

Stacked Baseball was the overwhelming top team throughout the week as the WWBA Champions outscored opponents by an absurd 117-12 during their 11-0 run. “We got some talented kids, but we played against a little bit of Goliath over there,” Stacked Head Coach Mike...

17u WWBA Scout Notes: Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4  Day 5 | Day 6 Shea Corona (2027, Brooklyn, N.Y.) showcased some loud stuff out of the bullpen for MLB Breakthrough Series 2027. The New York native and primary shortstop topped out at 93 with the fastball, sitting comfortable in the 90-92 range. Corona paired it with a sharp and tight slider at 81-83, staying on the same plane until late. The pitch plays well already and the delivery is very athletic. The uncommitted right-hander went three scoreless and was in the zone plenty, striking out two while not allowing a walk. Flames Natty used timely hitting and a dominant start from Beau Collier to defeat NLB American 7-3 and capture the 18U BCS National Championship on Monday at Lee Health Sports Complex. Despite being assembled just hours before the tournament began, the Flames quickly developed chemistry throughout the tournament. “This team was put together 12 hours before this tournament, and they went on a crazy run,” head coach Adam Vasquez said. “These kids know each other locally, but they don’t play together. For them to come together last minute like that, it’s crazy. I’m proud of them for that.” The game opened as a pitchers’ duel, with David Acevedo recording the lone hit through the first two innings. NLB American starter Hayden Graham kept the Flames in check early, allowing just one hit while striking out one over 2.0 innings. The right-hander...

He won Tournament MVP for his efforts. Physical left-handed frame with feel to hit to all fields. Utilizes the middle of the field as well as the opposite field efficiently. Should be a force to be reckoned with as he grows into some more power. Evan Rosales (2027, Houston, Texas) was dominant on the mound for HP 2027 Allen. Went five shutout innings over the weekend, surrendering just one hit and two walks while striking out ten. Fastball lives 83-87 with some carry. Curveball is a heavy 12/6 downer at 69-74.
