SOUTHWEST REGION (AZ, NM, NV, UT, CO)
Maybe the highlight of the Southwest Region Dream Team is the pure athleticism of the three outfielders, PG All-Americans Justin Crawford and Gavin Turley and Nevada’s Mason Neville. Not only are all three long and rangy athletes with plenty of projection left, they are all sub-6.3 runners in the sixty. Imagine a coach trying to figure out who is going to play center field.
The region also features four teams in the PG Preseason Top 50 in fifth-ranked Hamilton (Ariz.) High School and seventh-ranked Bishop Gorman (Nev.) High School. There are no weaknesses in the Hamilton lineup, which features three Dream Team members in Turley, first baseman Zach Wadas and shortstop Roch Cholowsky, the latter two both juniors. Bishop Gorman features a pair of Dream Team members in Crawford and two-way standout Demitri Diamant. Arizona’s Chapparal High School (15th) and Utah’s American Fork High School (45th) are also recognized in the Top 50.
