Is it time say that the state of Florida has surpassed California as the top source of high school baseball talent in the country?  It very well might be.  Over the last five years, Florida has produced 48 Perfect Game All-Americans compared to 38 for California.  During those same five years, the two states have produced an identical 43 high school players who were picked in the first five rounds of the draft.  So on those measurements, it certainly looks like Florida has edged ahead.

As far as schools in the PG Preseason Top 50, California has the edge 9-7 over Florida, with California claiming the country’s top team in Orange Lutheran High School and Florida landing in the next two slots with No. 2 IMG Academy and No. 3 Stoneman Douglas, the national defending champion from 2021.

IMG is represented by three players on the All-Region Dream Team; outfielder Elijah Green, left-hander Jackson Ferris and catcher Brady Neal.  Stoneman Douglas only has one player on the team in outfielder Roman Anthony, but also features two of the best two-way players in the country in senior Chris Arroyo and junior Christian Rodriguez.
