NJCAA Baseball Classic Preview

Photo: Perfect Game
NJCAA Classic Announced For Early February

The Visit Panama City Beach NJCAA College Baseball Classic will bring together 16 of the best JUCO teams from across the country from Feb. 4-6, and will be hosted by Gulf Coast Community College.

PerfectGame.TV will produce and broadcast multiple games throughout the weekend.

Below is a breakdown of each team in attendance, including players to watch and storylines.

Gulf Coast State College
Key Pitchers: (RHP) Charez Butcher, (LHP) Carson Dorsey
Key Hitters: (SS) Dylan Mach, (OF) James Jett, (IF/OF) Tyler Borges

First-year Head Coach Tyler Younger takes over the Commodores after having spent the last three seasons in Starkville on staff with Mississippi State, helping them to a national championship in 2021. Will the talent Younger has stockpiled heading into year one be enough to turn the tides and take the Commodores over .500 and competing at the top of the loaded Region 8 Panhandle Conference?

No. 3 McLennan Community College
Key Pitchers: (RHP) Will Carsten, (RHP) John Wyatt Cheney, (RHP) Devin Bennett
Key Hitters: (C) Hank Bard, (SS) Izzy Lopez, (2B) Cole Fontenelle

McLennan heads into Panama City Beach with the biggest targets on their back. The defending national champions will face off with a field of three other teams that also made the trip to Grand Junction, along with a slew of others who came up just short. Will they have what it takes to stay on top of the mountain?

St. Johns River State College
Key Pitchers: (RHP) Ethan Salak, (LHP) Tanner Bauman, (RHP) Jordan Wimpelberg
Key Hitters: (IF) Tripp McKinlay, (1B) Connor Morgan, (IF) Ramses Cordova

Heading to Panama City Beach, St. John’s River State looks to build on last year’s success. Led by bats Tripp McKinlay and Connor Morgan, they bring in a deep lineup with plenty of offensive firepower, but who will step up on the mound against the tough test that lies ahead?

No. 49 Wallace State – Hanceville
Key Pitchers: (RHP) Luke Daniel, (LHP) Dylan Rhadans, (RHP) Mitchell Heer
Key Hitters: (OF) Colson Lawrence, (3B) Ben Arnett, (SS) Mason Walker

Should Colson Lawrence be in consideration for the top bat and arm in Region 22? The two-way standout will hit in the middle of the order and touch the mid-90s with the fastball, but where does his future lie as the sophomore looks to move to the next level?

Chattahoochee Valley Community College
Key Pitchers: (LHP) Jayce James, (RHP) Clay Weatherly, (RHP) Zack Smith
Key Hitters: (OF) Hunter Marsh, (SS) Brendan York, OF Jalen Fulwood

A late slip up in 2021 cost the Pirates a chance at a World Series appearance after leading the region for most of the season. Could this week in Panama City Beach be the opportunity Head Coach Hunter Vick and his club have been looking for to springboard themselves back into the pole position in Region 22?

Delgado Community College
Key Pitchers: (LHP) Hunter Draper, (RHP) Cory Cook, (RHP) Dwain Guice
Key Hitters: (IF) Brayden Caskey, (IF/OF) Ethan Lege, (OF) Michael Stutes

As one of the bigger question marks coming into the tournament, Delgado will get back key pieces on both sides of the ball that contributed to last season's 34-13 record. Could the depth of this roster be the surprise of the week?

No. 15 Florence-Darlington Technical College
Key Pitchers: (RHP) Nathan Williams, (RHP) Matt Poston, (RHP) Collin Welch
Key Hitters: (3B) Scott McDonough, (OF) Anderson Fulk, (OF) Noah Stout

Can the two big arms at the front of the rotation replicate what the Stingers got out of their starters a year ago? Nathan Williams is back after nine starts as a freshman, and guys like Matt Poston, Collin Welch and Kameron Dunlap will all be ones to keep an eye on as they get set to face some of the country’s top offenses.

No. 18 Florida SouthWestern State
Key Pitchers: (RHP) Ben Peterson, (LHP) Chase Chatman, (RHP) Magnus Ellerts
Key Hitters: (OF) Kendry Noriega, (SS) Jose Izarra, (2B) Matthew Corpas

The Bucs are always talented, but is this year’s team the one that will take the next step and break through the roadblock that has been the Region 8 tournament? This collection of teams FSW is set to match up against will certainly give them a test as they look to see how they stack up against some of the country's best.

Andrew College
Key Pitchers: (RHP) Alex Blount, (RHP) Andrew Ginther, (LHP) Garrett Green
Key Hitters: (C) Jack Hay, (SS) Blake Falor, (1B) Jt Whatley

After taking Georgia by storm in 2021 and punching their ticket to the Southeast Regional, Andrews heads into Panama City Beach as the defending Region 17 champs. Is 2022’s roster ready to double down and challenge for a championship in PCB?

No. 11 Northwest Florida State College
Key Pitchers: (RHP) Jake Madden, (RHP) Caleb Reis, (RHP) Will Cannon
Key Hitters: (C) Austin Kelly, (OF) Tyler Kehoe, (C) Cherokee Nichols

Where is the ceiling for Jake Madden? After looking lights-out in Week 1, is the right-hander in the conversation for a first round pick in July? A strong test awaits in PCB with the potential matchup against Texas power San Jac.

No. 2 San Jacinto College
Key Pitchers: (LHP) Chris Stuart, (LHP) Hunter Hollan, (LHP) Evan Goodwin
Key Hitters: (SS) Sabin Ceballos, (SS) Harold Coll, (OF) Mason Lytle

Are the Gators ready to take the next step in their storied program history with a run of championships? Could Panama City be the launching pad toward a sixth national title? San Jac has long been considered a powerhouse, but are they prepared to start a dynasty?

No. 22 State College of Florida
Key Pitchers: (RHP) Gavin Adams, (LHP) Jacob Dorn, (LHP) Josh Beck
Key Hitters: (OF) Brandon Fields, (SS) Kevin Karstetter, (C) Tayden Hall

The talent on the mound is not what anyone is questioning as the Manatee’s head to Panama City Beach. The question that remains, are these young arms ready for the gauntlet that is highest-level junior college baseball? They will find out early with a matchup against Region 17 defending champ Andrews College.

No. 7 Chipola College
Key Pitchers: (RHP) Cedric De Grandpre, (RHP) Dylan Eskew, (RHP) Kenya Huggins Jr.
Key Hitters: (3B) Cam Collier, (OF) Tucker Flint, (OF) Cesar Franco

Cam Collier is the real deal and a potential first rounder this year. He’s the key cog in a dynamic Chipola offense, but can their pitching staff match that offensive output?

Miami-Dade College
Key Pitchers: (RHP) Jose Pichardo, (RHP) William Silva, (RHP) Marvin De La Hoz
Key Hitters: (3B) Luis Espinal, SS Joseph Zamora, (1B) Matthew Krtausch

Dade is one of seven teams headed to Panama City Beach from Region 8, a region they claimed in 2021 on their way to Grand Junction. Does this year’s southernmost junior college have what it takes to repeat 2021’s conquering of the Panhandle?

No. 13 Wabash Valley College
Key Pitchers: (RHP) Kaleb Applebey, (LHP) Jake Bimbi, (RHP) Beau Coffman
Key Hitters: (C) Ryan McCoy, (OF) Jonathan Hogart, (3B) Brian Kalmer

Wabash will show up in Panama City Beach one of the only teams yet to play a real game. Does this northern power have the horsepower to head south and take on some of the best teams the southeast has to offer early in the season?

No. 30 Wallace-Dothan Community College
Key Pitchers: (RHP) Clete Hartzog, (LHP) Kade Snell, (RHP) Carlos Nolasco
Key Hitters: (3B) Chaz Salter, (2B) Ethan Kavanagh, (SS) Giuseppe Ferraro

Clete Hartzog leads the rotation for the Govs. The question is, should his name be in the conversation with those being discussed amongst the top junior college arms in the country? Look for Hartzog's potential matchup against a stingy Miami-Dade lineup on Friday.

DIII Rankings: February 18

Every spring, Division III baseball begins as a wide-open map. Cold mornings turn into long bus rides, non-conference gauntlets test resolve, and by the time the dust settles, only a few teams are still standing with a clear line to the NCAA Division III baseball tournament. The 2026 Perfect Game Division III Baseball Rankings capture that moment before the stretch run, highlighting the programs that have separated themselves through depth, durability, and an ability to win in a variety of ways. These eight teams are not simply piling up wins; they are shaping identities built to survive the grind and thrive when the margins narrow.  The destination is familiar, even if the journey never is. Once again, the final chapter will be written at Classic Park, where timing, composure, and roster balance matter as much as raw talent. The teams ranked here enter 2026 with more than ambition....

Pacific Northwest All Region & Top Tools

NORTHWEST REGION (WA, OR, ID, WY, AK, MT, HI)    The biggest change in the Northwest Region for 2026 is the addition of Hawaii, which has always been overlooked due to being lumped with California in the former Pacific Region.  This also coincides with an increased Perfect Game presence in the islands in the form of additional events and scouting.  And Hawaii certainly contributed in it’s first year, placing four players on the All-Region team, including slugging 2026 outfielder Judah Ota. The powerhouse Puyallup HS team is the only Northwest Region team to be represented in the PG Pre-Season Top 50 National HS Rankings, beginning the year ranked 26th.  C – Teagan Scott (Sr., South Salem HS, Ore.) Scott has been on the prospect map since he played in the 2023 PG 14U Select Festival and is signed with Oregon State.  A right-handed hitter with lots...

Then vs. Now: '26 Class Look Back

Tyler Henninger
Article Image
One constant across our scouting staff is the volume of in-person looks we get at prospects during their high school years. With assignments at national tournaments and showcases throughout the calendar, we’ve built a deep library of reports and video on many of today’s top college prospects dating back to their prep days. This week, we took a step back to revisit what those players looked like as high school prospects. Which tools stood out? What was missing from the profile at the time? And what, if anything, did we overlook that ultimately helped shape the player they’ve become? Below, we break down 10 players in a “Then and Now” reflection. Justin Lebron (23 FL) finishes off the tournament getting in on the hit parade with a single to the pullside. #PGShowdown #Bama commit pic.twitter.com/C4Irym2ZTR — Perfect Game Scout (@PG_Scouting) March 4, 2023...

Grady Emerson (‘26 TX) laces this ball to right for a walk off single. Clean lefty stroke. Looks the part both sides of the ball. Checks all the boxes. Will be scouted heavily this Spring. #PGHS #HookEm commit. #PGDraft pic.twitter.com/wXvdHdgqME — Perfect Game Texas (@Texas_PG) February 6, 2026 Grady Emerson (2026, Argyle, Texas) had a strong showing throughout the opening week of high school baseball out here in Texas. Works good at-bats and is always a tough out in general. Makes all the plays at short and just has the look of a future big leaguer. He does all the little things right. Bat to ball will play at a high level and there is still a lot more power to project on here. There is a reason why Emerson is one of, if not the most highly coveted high school prospect in the 2026 class and it’s easy to see why. Currently committed to Texas, but has the potential to...

BURLINGTON, IA - Perfect Game Softball Winter One Day Tournament, February 15, 2026. Twelve teams, split between the 16u and 18u divisions, participated in this event.  With two pool games, and then a move into single elimination bracket play,  some players used this tournament as  their last warm-up before kicking off their high school seasons, while others were tuning up for the busy Spring and Summer travel season. In the 16u division, it was the Iowa Aries 16u Ce Fire Red taking the championship, with Southeast Iowa Allstars 18u Gold Miller earning the crown in the 18u division. Below are write-ups from observations made during the day, as due to a software glitch, there were no stats available to complete a Top Performers list. 16U Division  Earning the MV-Pitcher Award, as selected by her coaches, was Aurora Widlund (2029 Altoona, IA) of tournament champion Iowa...

Just a couple of weeks into the 2026 season, several teams have already hit the ground running, namely Walters State, Florida Southwestern, Chipola, Johnson County, Florence-Darlington, and Pearl River. A little further down the rankings, we’ve seen some significant movement. The College of Southern Nevada surged up several spots after a strong 12-2 start, while Gaston has turned heads with an unblemished 14-0 record. We also welcome a few new additions in the 20s: Fresno City and Panola. Neither program debuted inside our top 50, but both have certainly earned their place in this week’s rankings. We’re looking forward to another exciting week of early spring baseball, as teams across the country continue to find their rhythm before conference play begins. Rk. Ohio Valley All Region & Top Tools

OHIO VALLEY REGION (IL, IN, KY, MI, OH) The Ohio Valley Region has a healthy amount of top-level talent, as it features five Perfect Game All-Americans in shortstop Ethan Bass, third baseman TJ McQuillan, two-way stand out Matt Ponatoski and right-handed pitchers Shawn Sullivan and Grayson Willoughby.  The 2027 class looks very strong as well, especially in Illinois. A couple of things are missing from the Ohio Valley All-Region team, though.  The first is the two best outfielders in the region, as 2027 Illinois outfielder Sebastian Wilson is attending IMG Academy in Florida and fellow 2027 outfielder Noah Goettke from Ohio is attending P27 Academy in South Carolina.  Also missing are any players from Michigan, which enjoyed a dominant run of top prospects in recent years largely behind the Lake Orchard St. Mary’s HS program.  2027 catcher Broder Katke (Brother...
