Pacific Northwest All Region & Top Tools

NORTHWEST REGION (WA, OR, ID, WY, AK, MT, HI)

The biggest change in the Northwest Region for 2026 is the addition of Hawaii, which has always been overlooked due to being lumped with California in the former Pacific Region.  This also coincides with an increased Perfect Game presence in the islands in the form of additional events and scouting.  And Hawaii certainly contributed in it’s first year, placing four players on the All-Region team, including slugging 2026 outfielder Judah Ota.

The powerhouse Puyallup HS team is the only Northwest Region team to be represented in the PG Pre-Season Top 50 National HS Rankings, beginning the year ranked 26th.

C – Teagan Scott (Sr., South Salem HS, Ore.)

Scott has been on the prospect map since he played in the 2023 PG 14U Select Festival and is signed with Oregon State.  A right-handed hitter with lots of strength on his 5-11/210 build and good present power, Scott hit .447-7-31 with 55 runs scored as a junior at South Salem HS.  He is also a 6.60 runner in the sixty highlighting his athleticism.  Catcher is a very deep position in the Northwest Region with 2027 Joe Mendazona Jr (Central HS, Ore.) and 2028 super utility/catcher Madden Pike (Puyallup HS, Wash.) both Top 100 prospects nationally in their respective classes.

1B – Chase Thompson (Jr., Iolani HS, Hawaii)

Thompson is a classic left-handed power hitter at 6-1/210 and already capable of creating 100+ EV’s.  A Southern California commit, Thompson is very athletic for a first baseman with an upper 80’s arm and 7.02 speed and also plays the outfield.

MIF – Rilen Niclai (Jr., Service HS, Alaska)

Niclai made the rare decision to re-classify to a younger class, as the 2025 PG National participant went from being a senior this year to a junior.  Niclai would have been one of the younger top prospects in the 2026 class and will play all spring and most the summer at 17, so he’s now with his proper age group.

MIF – Brayden Landry (Jr., Puyallup HS, Wash.)

Landry is a three-time Perfect Game Select Festival athlete with pure middle infield athleticism on defense and 6.52 speed on the bases.  He has consistently hit for both higher averages and more power with wood bats during the summer and fall than he has in the spring and hit .358-0-18 in 32 games of PG play in 2025.  Landry is committed to Washington and is the 49th ranked prospect overall in the 2027 class.

3B –  Sawyer Nelson (Sr., South Salem, Ore.)

Nelson was one of the most dominant hitters in high school baseball nationally in 2025, hitting .543-13-63 for the season, a huge jump from his .318-1-14 numbers as a sophomore.  He’s a 6.59 runner with middle of the field athleticism.  Nelson is signed with Loyola Marymount.

OF – Ka'Alekahi Kuhaulua (Jr., Kailua HS, Hawaii.)

Kuhaulua is a sweet-swinging left-handed hitter with lots of power potential in his 6-2/170 frame as he gets stronger.  The young Hawaiian also throws in the upper 80’s off the mound from the left side.

OF – Judah Ota (Sr., Iolani HS, Hawaii)

Ota came to the 2025 PG National Showcase as an unranked player and left as the top-ranked 2026 player in the NW Region.  He has an outstanding 6-5/210 young build and a fluid and strong left-handed swing that really projects in all areas.  He is also a 6.72 runner at that size and has a 90+ mph throwing arm in the outfield.  Ota is signed with Arkansas, although he could garner plenty of draft attention this spring and summer.

OF – Wyatt Plyler (Jr., Sumner HS, Wash.)

Plyler might be the most tooled up player in the Northwest Region, with an athletic and projectable 6-2/185 build, 6.52 speed, and an arm that registered 96 mph from the outfield and 92 from the mound this summer.  The right-handed hitter posted .324-2-17 numbers in 14 PG games in 2025.

RHP Bryce Collins (Sr., Kelso HS, Wash.)

Collins dominated at 2025 PG events, striking out 27 hitters in 18 innings while only allowing 7 hits and 6 walks (65.5% strikes).  He’s a polished three-pitch starter type who features a 90-93 mph fastball to go with an 80 mph slider and an advanced low 80’s split change up.  A Mississippi signee, Collins saved his best performance for the end of the season, throwing five no-hit innings at the WWBA World Championships in October.

RHP Logen Doran (Jr., Waiakea HS, Haw.)

Doran entered 2025 as a primary outfielder with 6.48 speed and a 97 mph throwing arm and ended it as a primary pitcher with a very ceiling, especially with his fastball.  An Arkansas commit, the 6-4/170 Doran is already touching 93 mph with his fastball with lots more to come to go with slider and change up.  He struck out 8 hitters in 4 innings at the WWBA World Championships.

RHP Eli Herst (Sr., Seattle Academy, Wash.)

Herst is highly regarded for his physical projectability with his 6-5/210 frame and his already advanced pitchability.  He works in the low 90’s with his fastball and both his change up and sweeping slider are potential plus pitches.  Herst struck out 63 hitters in 31 innings as a junior and also hit .424-4-17.  He is signed with Vanderbilt.

RHP Kealoha Kepoo-Sabate (Sr., Meadowdale HS, Wash.)

Kepoo-Sabate is a native of Hilo, Hawaii and a strong-armed right-hander who also excels as an athlete and shortstop.  He only threw at one PG event in 2025, the WWBA National Championship, and struck out 9 in 5 innings while sitting 90-94 mph with a low 80’s breaking ball and change up.  Kepoo-Sabate struck out 52 hitters in 25 innings last spring while also hitting .314 at Meadowdale HS and is signed with Texas Tech.

RHP Grady Saunders (Sr., Thurston HS, Ore.)

Saunders has been a dominant player in Oregon baseball since his freshman year and had his best year on both sides of the ball as a junior, posting a 9-1, 0.89 record on the mound with 96 strikeouts in 63 innings while hitting .500-5-36 as a secondary third baseman.  An Oregon State signee, Saunders works in the 93-95 mph range with his fastball and also throws a quality change up and hard curveball.

UT – Eli Jones (Jr., Woodinville HS, Wash.)

Jones is a two-year starter both in the infield and on the mound at Woodinville HS and hit .317 in some major PG tournaments in 2025 but his top of the scale arm strength for a 16-year old profiles him as a future primary pitcher.  Jones was 90-93 mph virtually every PG outing in 2025, including at the PG All-Star Game at Petco Park, and also threw 98 from the outfield and 96 from the infield at the Junior National Showcase.

Pacific Northwest Top Tools

Best Hitter for Average: Sawyer Nelson (Sr., South Salem, Ore.)

Nelson’s spectacular 2025 season speaks for itself and it looks like the left-handed hitter is geared up for more, as he hit .714 with 6 walks at the season opening PG West MLK Championship in mid-January in Arizona.

Best Hitter for Power: Judah Ota (Sr., Iolani HS, Hawaii)

Ota lived at 103-105 mph EV’s during batting practice at the PG National and has the type of swing and the hand speed to put his power projection at the top of the scale.

Best Runner: Wyatt Plyler (Jr., Sumner HS, Wash.)

The Northwest Region doesn’t have many fliers but with another year of strength and maturity Plyler could get even faster than his present 6.5 speed.

Best Defensive Catcher: Teagan Scott (Sr., South Salem HS, Ore.)

Scott has very athletic actions behind the plate and is especially quick in his blocking and shifting actions.  His arm strength is only average but he makes very accurate throws.

Best Defensive Infielder: Rilen Niclai (Sr., Service HS, Alaska)

Niclai stood out on the defensive side at the PG National, throwing 93 mph from shortstop, and 91 off the mound, running a 6.58 sixty and showing all the game actions.  He was committed to Arizona State, where his brother Coen plays, before his re-classifying.

Best Defensive Outfielder: Wyatt Plyler (Jr., Sumner HS, Wash.)

Plyler’s combination of speed and big arm strength is ideal on a defensive outfielder.

Best Defensive Arm: Eli Jones (Jr., Woodinville HS, Wash.)

Jones ranks among the top arms in the 2027 class nationally all over the field and could be one of the big risers this year in the class nationally if his bat continues to improve.

Best Fastball: Grady Saunders (Sr., Thurston HS, Ore.)

Saunders doesn’t have a big power pitcher’s body at 6-2/185 but his athleticism plays up on the mound and he has a lightning quick arm and the potential for more velocity as he gets stronger.

Best Off-Speed Stuff: Eli Herst (Sr., Seattle Academy, Wash.)

Herst’s change up is probably the best secondary offering in the Region and his big breaking sweeper isn’t far behind.  If he adds the velocity that many scouts think he will this spring, Herst could definitely come into play on 2026 draft lists.

Best Pitchability: Bryce Collins (Sr., Kelso HS, Wash.)

Collins arsenal of pitches and command aren’t very different from Eli Herst’s and one could really just switch the two right-handers in these two categories.

He did not turn back from there, homering on two more occasions. The ball explodes off the barrel with low effort strength and he showed the ability to manipulate the barrel to lift with authority. Thomas III is built strong and physical and he is just beginning to tap into that huge power upside. He showed no issues handling left on left matchups, with his first two homers coming...

Whitney may not just be the best arm in next year’s class, he may be the best arm in the entire country right now. The right-handed sits 98 mph with the heater and has been up to 100 mph. Both the slider and curveball are plus offerings that he spins extremely well. Whitney will mix in a quality Gavin changeup that sits in the upper-80’s and has also introduced a new cutter. All the pitches come from the exact same release point and jump out of the hand. He...

DII/DIII/NAIA Rankings Update: Feb. 25

Nick Herfordt
Article Image
A few weeks into the season and the shape of the national picture is starting to emerge (slightly, let’s get too silly about early results). Some preseason favorites are humming exactly as advertised, a few dark horses are pawing at the gate, and a handful of early contenders are discovering that February optimism and March reality are not always the same thing. Across DII, DIII and the NAIA, pitching staffs are setting the tone, offenses are either detonating or recalibrating, and the Top 25 is already beginning to feel less theoretical and more earned.   DII UT Tyler is performing as predicted with a 12-2 start that includes a series win at Angelo State. The Patriots’ offense has not exactly been knocking the cover off the ball, but the pitching staff has been stingy, holding opponents to a .228 batting average.  They have not faced a ranked opponent yet, but...

An extended look at Carson Bailey (@mccbaseball1 )…. https://t.co/TltEl9M31H pic.twitter.com/24Lv8q73Yb — Perfect Game Texas (@Texas_PG) February 7, 2026 Carson Bailey (2024, Richardson, Texas) worked up to 97 with his fastball out the gate and lived 95-96 throughout his short burst outing. Fastball got up to 2500 RPM showing subtle tail at times. It plays firm and gets in on hitters quick. Locates fastball well at times. He went to a change in the 85-88 range as his bread and butter secondary killing spin with good dive. Change produced 5 whiffs. He also mixed in a slider in the 80-85 getting upwards of 2500 RPM with it. Slider tight and sharp when around it. Also flashed a curve at 79. Bailey stands in at 6-foot-3 from a deceptive delivery that creates tough angles for hitters. He should be a big follow throughout the Spring with plenty of draft buzz surrounding him. He is...
