6-6 righthander Ryan Johnson (2021, Red Oak, TX) was in complete control from start to finish for the Dallas Tigers to open day 2 of the playoffs at 17U WWBA. Johnson’s delivery is deceptive and unique in the way he stays short with his stride to the plate and with his leg lift. Johnson pretty simply turns and fires to the plate with outstanding arm strength to sit 90-93 mph with a great feel for two additional secondary pitches. His changeup is the better of the two pitches at present with lots of deception at 84-86 mph. He tunnels the pitch well and has the makings of an out pitch for him in the future. Johnson has the potential to throw extremely hard in the years to come as he adds more of his lower half to his delivery. The strike throwing ability was above average for Johnson in this look as he struck out eight hitters and walked just one in five innings of work.
