Florida State Seminoles

What Happened: Florida State split a three-team series, taking both games from Florida Atlantic and losing both games against Texas Tech. The Seminoles, who are coming off a trip to Omaha, were in the driver's seat for both of the Texas Tech losses until some late game missteps cost the 'Noles those games. The overall talent is there for another deep run, but there's some things they'll have to fix in the meantime.

Carrying Tool: Arms on arms. The weekend rotation is one of the more stout in the ACC as CJ Van Eyk and Shane Drohan have some of the best pure stuff in the country while Conor Grady is an experienced arm with good pitchability. They'll roll out a ton of arms out of relief from explosive, young relievers like Parker Messick, Doug Kirkland and Jack Anderson to extremely experienced competitors like Chase Haney, Antonio Velez and Jonah Scolaro.

Concerns: Infield defense. The Seminoles' defense in the infield during this series was, in a word, a disaster. Both games against Texas Tech were winnable, but key miscues included the Red Raiders scoring the game-winning run on an error by third baseman Carter Smith and an error by Jackson Greene earlier in the game that allowed three runs to score. The combination of Smith, Greene and Nander De Sedas are likely to see the most time in the infield, though Tyler Martin has come on to play third in a couple of games since rehabbing a shoulder injury.

Best Player on the Field: Robby Martin. The Seminoles' sophomore outfielder stands out in a talented lineup as Martin is the most polished and pure hitter on the roster. The way that Martin takes consistently excellent at-bats time in and time out can't be overstated as Martin really knows the zone and how to get a pitch that he likes. Martin was moved to the three-hole ahead of Saturday night's game where he should slot for the rest of the season, and the rest of his time in a Florida State uniform.

Previous player reports:
Feb. 28: CJ Van Eyk
Feb. 29: Shane Drohan, Parker Messick, Jack Anderson
March 1: Conor Grady

Players covered: Robby Martin, Reese Albert, Matheu Nelson, Elijah Cabell, Tyler Martin, Nander De Sedas.

Robby Martin, OF
Florida State entered the 2020 season with a bit of uncertainty from an offensive perspective. Lots of returning faces were coming to the lineup after having subpar 2019 campaigns, but one of those players was not Robby Martin who was one of the Seminoles' leading hitters as a true freshman. Martin looks to be on the right path from a developmental standpoint as he looks like the most polished hitter on the team and is still only a sophomore.
