13u PG Series Classic Quick Hits: Day 1 | Days 2-3 | Day 4

Starting on the mound for Coastal Thursday night was Cooper Consiglio (2023, Palm Harbor, Fla.). He did exactly what his team needed him to do to win the semifinal game under the lights. Consiglio did not show any nerves pitching under the bright lights as he threw a complete game, allowing only three hits on no runs and striking out nine. His fastball was up to 76 mph and threw a lot of strikes down in the zone. This was one of the most dominant pitching performances of the weekend in one of the biggest games.

Mike Palenzuela (2024, Miami, Fla.) shined once again on Friday for South. On the mound he threw four innings only giving up one hit and striking out nine batters. He threw with a lot of confidence controlling the pace of the game and throwing a lot of strikes. Also at the plate Palenzuela went 1-for-2 with a run scored. Palenzuela was a fun player to watch all week and will be a player to keep your eyes on over the next couple of years.

Zain Smith (2023, Lafayette, Ga.) for Southeast had himself a day at the plate. Smith, who showed good athleticism, went 2-for-3 with a double, one RBI and one run scored. Smith has a smooth swing and has good extension through the ball which gives him the ability to drive balls into the gaps. Smith was impressive all week and is a solid ballplayer in the making.

Another player for Southeast that shinned Friday was starting pitcher Justin Breitenstein (2023, Estero, Fla.). He has a very big frame at 6-foot-3, 188 pounds with plenty of time to grow into his body. Using his long legs he is able to get down the mound which make this 76 mph fastball really get on hitters in a hurry. Breitenstein threw a very impressive seven innings allowing four hits and no earned runs while striking out seven.

Tyshon Patty (2023, Lawrenceville, Geo.) shined all week at the plate but on Friday he stepped onto the mound. Patty threw 5 1/3 innings allowing only two hits while striking out 12 batters. He was absolutely dominant on the mound with his fastball up to 79 mph and his sharp curveball at 59 mph. As he was dominating on the mound he also had another good day at the plate going 2-for-3 with a double, three RBI and two runs scored in the leadoff spot. Patty was a standout player all week and is a player to keep an eye on.

The starting pitcher for North in the championship game on Friday was righthander Josh Ossiander (2023, Northampton, Pa.). He handled the pressure of being the starter for a big game with no problem and did not show any nerves. He had great command with his pitches throwing a lot of strikes and getting ahead of hitters. He was able to get a lot of swings-and-misses and elicited weak contact using his curveball. Osslander threw four big innings not allowing an earned run and striking out six to help carry his team to a championship win.

Ethan Zhao (2024, Iowa City, Iowa.) started at third base for Midwest and had himself a day at the plate. He went 3-for-3 on the day scoring two runs and driving in one. Zhao found consistent barrels all day and made a lot of hard contact. He has a quick swing through the zones and lets his hands work. Zhao also played solid defense at third showing off his strong arm and good hands.

– Parker Fronk

Vincent Salvo (2024, Vienna, Va.) showed raw power hitting the ball in the outfield gaps. His swing is very consistent and showed good discipline at the plate. Salvo fields his position well and covers a lot of ground. He is 5-foot-8 and has a large catch radius. He also has the ability to make good plays on difficult throws to first base, giving the infielders confidence while they make their throws. His excellent baseball IQ allowed him to have a great defensive day and his offensive approach helped him stand out.

Evan Nickowski (2024, Marble Falls, Texas) had a great offensive day at the plate displaying gap-to-gap power. His swing is very well coordinated and he manages good balance through the downswing. He also had an excellent day on defense showing that he is a projectable player wherever he is put on the field. Nickowski is able to read the ball well off the bat and execute excellent routes while making plays on the run as his speed allows him to reach fly balls hit in the gaps. Nickowsky is a baseball player that promises exciting projectibility as he develops.

Daremin Vargas (2023, Distrito Nacional, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) was able to show a quality baseball IQ as an outfielder as his fielding is fluid and overall he is fun to watch. Vargas is built like a baseball player and it is hard to not be amazed by what he can do as an outfielder and what he brings to the plate. He was just shy of a home run on his third official at-bat of the day hitting the ball to the fence in left-center field. His arm strength was also evident after making numerous throws to the plate and second base from the outfield, making his throws on straight lines reaching the bases without a bounce. Vargas demonstrated that he has raw power based on his swing and contact as every ball hit was very hard even when struck just foul or right at a defender.

Championship teams often reveal themselves when the game isn’t going their way. Performance Baseball 2028/Milwaukee Brewers Scout Team did exactly that. Trailing Florida Burn 2028 Scout through four innings, the Brewers refused to panic. Instead, they relied on timely hitting, consistent pitching, and an unselfish approach at the plate, rallying a five-run fifth inning before pulling away for a 9-5 victory to clinch their spot in the semifinals. The comeback was fueled by contributions throughout the lineup. Six different players drove in runs, including two RBIs each from Aiden Capobianco and Cameron Massey, while Matthew Heredia, Parker Weston, Ethan Smith, and Aj Bonnette each added an RBI of their own. On the mound, Derek Wenzel set the tone with 3.2 solid innings before Ethan Smith shut the door in relief, helping preserve the comeback victory. Although the Brewers have had a...

Just one batter later, Aaron Frink stepped into the box and sent another ball over the fence, delivering back-to-back home runs that quickly became one of the most talked about moments of the tournament’s opening days. Parents gathered along the nets, players from previous games stopped to watch, and college scouts turned their attention toward the action as the two towering swings energized the crowd and brought new life to the game. Although Wow Factor Nation ultimately lost 5-3 after a hard-fought performance, the back-to-back home runs served as a reminder of the...

The New York native and primary shortstop topped out at 93 with the fastball, sitting comfortable in the 90-92 range. Corona paired it with a sharp and tight slider at 81-83, staying on the same plane until late. The pitch plays well already and the delivery is very athletic. Flames Natty used timely hitting and a dominant start from Beau Collier to defeat NLB American 7-3 and capture the 18U BCS National Championship on Monday at Lee Health Sports Complex. Despite being assembled just hours before the tournament began, the Flames quickly developed chemistry throughout the tournament. “This team was put together 12 hours before this tournament, and they went on a crazy run,” head coach Adam Vasquez said. “These kids know each other locally, but they don’t play together. For them to come together last minute like that, it’s crazy. I’m proud of them for that.” The game opened as a pitchers’ duel, with David Acevedo recording the lone hit through the first two innings. NLB American starter Hayden Graham kept the Flames in check early, allowing just one hit while striking out one over 2.0 innings. The right-hander...

Sawyer took home MVP honors after finishing with nine hits, six going for extra bases including two home runs, nine RBIs and eight runs scored. It’s electric at...

Austin Lyons (2028, Cibolo, Texas) put on a display for Canes Southwest Prime 16U. Went 7-14 at the plate with a pair of doubles and triples, while driving in 13 runs. He won Tournament MVP for his efforts. Physical left-handed frame with feel to hit to all fields. Utilizes the middle of the field as well as the opposite field efficiently. Should be a force to be reckoned with as he grows into some more power. Evan Rosales (2027, Houston, Texas) was dominant on the mound for HP 2027 Allen. Went five shutout innings over the weekend, surrendering just one hit and two walks while striking out ten. Fastball lives 83-87 with some carry. Curveball is a heavy 12/6 downer at 69-74.
