Finest in the Field: Class of 2027

Finest in the Field: Class of 2026

Elite defenders from coast to coast certainly seems to be a strength and to think you could make another top-tier team without thinking, speaks to the real depth this group possesses. The infield is a no-doubt strength of the group, but what catcher Dariel Carrion can do behind the plate is like something we haven't seen in a while in the prep ranks with an absolutely bazooka of an arm.

C: Dariel Carrion (San Juan, PR)

It isn’t often you get a catching prospect as athletic and natural as Dariel Carrion, a big reason why he holds the rank of #1 player in PR and #18 nationally. Metrics wise, the 5-foot-10, 210 pound San Juan native is all you can ask for and more, posting a sub 1.80 pop time with an 84 mph arm behind the dish. He has both contact and clear power threat on the offensive end, ending 2025 with a .337 BA and 4 HRs while also swiping 12 bags as a 6.94 runner. During WWBA Underclass, Carrion really separated himself from the pack by hitting .545 with 3 HRs and 13 RBI, showcasing true talent on both sides of the field with really no weaknesses to his game.

1B: Frank Thomas III (Sarasota, FL)

If the name gives any indication, power clearly runs in the family for Frank Thomas lll. Finishing up 2025 hitting .382 with 3 HRs, the 6-foot-2, 205 pound lefty mashes balls to all parts of the field with big time bat speed on display. Thomas lll has some of the easiest jump off the barrel in the class, showing up under the brightest of lights by posting a .385 BA during WWBA in July. Though the offense stands in the forefront, he’s sure-handed defensively and has natural feel around the bag, making for a well rounded prospect and the #1 ranked 1B in the nation.

INF: Carter Hadnot (Rialto, CA)

Unmatched athleticism is the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about the 6-foot-2, 175 pound Carter Hadnot, as the #6 ranked player in the ‘27 Class does some things on a baseball field that few others can even dream of. Defensively, the Cali kid is the definition of a high level defender with effortless actions and some of the smoothest glove work in the country. He makes extremely difficult plays look easy and natural to both sides with plenty of arm strength across the diamond to pair. He impacts the baseball with authority from both boxes as a switch hitter offensively and is a 6.54 runner, just adding to the value that he can provide to any lineup lucky enough to have him.

INF: Dylan Seward (Eastvale, CA)

You don’t have to look real far to find this name on 2027 rankings lists and he jumped up the rankings in a big way after his showing this summer. A lot of college coaches, pro scouts etc. look for athletes in the infield with a chance to stick as shortstop long term. What you don’t often find are true shortstops at the high school level. But this is that type of player. Foot speed, arm strength with a quick release, defensive actions and lateral range. All the traits to be an elite level defender at a premium position and may very well be the best defensive player in the 2027 class right now.

INF: Chase Fuller (Tallahassee, FL)

Fuller is a player who may be able to stick at shortstop long term and certainly has the arm should he move to third base long-term given his advanced physicality. Quick reactions, soft hands and big time arm strength up to 96 across the diamond at Jr National this past summer. Made several high level plays on short hops coming in on infield choppers and some backhand plays where he got to really show off the not just strong but also very accurate arm. He’s highly regarded for his ability offensively, first time I saw him swing the bat this summer he led off a game with a first pitch HR. But the defensive ability may be just as good and he certainly has the offensive upside to profile at 3B long term as well.

OF: Joshua Priest (San Diego, CA)

Priest took the spotlight and ran with it throughout 2025, as the 5-foot-11, 190 pound prospect put on a show during Underclass All-American BP with big time offensive tools that translated directly in-game, hitting .457 in the calendar year with three HRs in just 35 ABs. He’s pretty much all you could really want in an outfielder, boasting 6.41 speed that translates in all aspects of the game: defensively where he covers ground effortlessly & offensively on the bases creating chaos for opposing teams. He’s been a consistent performer in PG events dating back to the 2020-21 seasons, and there’s nothing to suggest that 2026 will be any different, if not better for the #19 overall player in the class.

OF: Jordin Griffin (Lake Charles, LA)

The title of elite defender may be a stretch for most players across the country, but that’s certainly not the case for Jordin Griffin, A 6.41 runner, the speed constantly plays a role in the 5-foot-8, 170 pound prospect’s game, making unbelievable plays all over the OF with unmatched range. He has plenty of arm strength to be found as well, hitting 93 mph back at the 2025 Jr. National Showcase which few even dare to test in-game. Griffin hit .327 this year with some of the best bat speed in the class, providing value on both sides of the field that should only continue to grow and translate directly at the next level and beyond.

UTL: Lucas Farrar (Tampa, FL)

often when you look for and find elite defenders in the infield those players have elite level arm strength. And arguably no player in the 2027 class has a strong arm than this guy. Up to 95 across the diamond at Jr National this past summer and truly possesses the ability to make any throw from the left side of the infield. The footwork, ability to work around the baseball and take efficient lateral angles are all signs of a future high level defender. And he actually has the athleticism and arm strength to potentially play all 3 outfield positions as well. Up to 99 from the outfield at Jr National this past summer. That type of arm strength isn’t common and regardless of where he ends up playing defensively, he’s going to have a plus tool to work with.

OF: Luis Olmeda (Spring, TX)

Speed and arm strength are traditionally the biggest indicators of a player that can be a high level defender in the outfield. And this is a 6.6 runner who was up to 97 from the outfield at Jr National this year. The ability to be aggressive to the baseball and stay under control and keep that momentum to make throws really stand out. Outfielders that can really go get the baseball and have elite arm strength at the age aren’t real common. But this is a player that certainly has both of those traits. And they show up not just in a showcase setting but in games as well.

LHP: Jared Grindlinger (Huntington Beach, CA)

There’s a reason Grindlinger is ranked as the #3 overall player and the #1 LHP in the ‘27 Class, as the premier two-way talent seems to get more and more impressive with each look. He showcases an advanced three-pitch mix on the mound with plenty of spin profile to be found, constantly missing barrels with heavy heat into the mid 90s. There’s an overall ease to the 6-foot-3, 185 pound prospect’s game with plenty of confidence bleeding through. He projects for immense power from the left side on the offensive end, displaying true top of the class tools that continue to somehow get better.

Hitter of the Year: Landon Bonner The 2028 class saw many players from across the country take the next step in their development as they entered the High School ranks. There were huge performances from highly ranked players on the PG circuit as well as some under-the-radar guys who burst onto the scene. Landon Bonner came into Sophomore National as a Top 500 ranked player and after an impressive showing, left with all eyes on him as a rankings riser in the class. The left-handed hitting shortstop from The Colony, Texas, had a summer to remember with All-Tournament Team selections in three of his next four events culminating with a historic performance at the 2025 PG 15U WWBA National Championship. The Hebron High School prep went 20-for-24 in nine games for 5 Star Mafia 15U Black with four homeruns and 12 runs batted in. He also scored 17 runs and finished with a mind-boggling 2.500...

Hitter of the Year: Koa Romero is the Hitter of the Year for the 16u group, as he would come to every premier event of the summer and earn All-Tournament honors (Beast of the East, 16/17u WWBA, Jupiter) in every single one. Over 82 plate appearances, Romero would pump ten homeruns with forty two RBI and sixteen walks, good for a .378 average and 1.339 OPS. The performance on volume at the best events of the year pushed Romero over the edge here, as he’d hit a pair of homeruns in Jupiter (one of them at 112 EV) as an underclassmen and collect double digit hits in BOTH WWBA events with a combined six jacks over the two tournaments. It was a summer that combined performance and winning on the biggest stages for Romero. It’s a quiet left-handed swing that packs a punch. He would reap the benefits of his performances, earning a commitment to LSU and jumping to the #74 prospect in...

They dip into Mississippi to land one of the premier arms and one that’s stood out on the circuit for quite some time. It’s a fast arm and the athleticism certainly shines working down the slope. The velocity has continued to tick up over the last calendar year and reached into the low-90s towards the end of the summer. He’s confident in his changeup and the breaking ball is...

There’s a lot of talent throughout this 2026 class, filled with the big-name stars, to talent that spreads across the nation. It’s been a lot of fun seeing these prospects grow and develop over the years, from the days of watching some of these guys at the 13/14u days at events on the circuit, to now where they are all graduating seniors in 2026. There’s been new faces who have popped along the way over the years, even in 2026, where some players who were relatively undiscovered, have come out and made a name for themselves with a statement performance. Between the familiar and the new, there’s a lot of names on this list that are going to be quite regularly talked about on the circuit, and for good reason.  Whether it’s PG All-Americans or not, there’s a lot of names with superstar potential at the next level. We’ve got 14 PG All-Americans...

Finest in the Field: Class of 2026 | Class of 2027 | Class of 2028 These guys might just be entering high school, but they've certainly already made a name for themselves on the national circuit, especially with their abilities on the defensive side of things.  C: Xavier Rodriguez (Logansville, GA) Rodriguez is a polished defender with real arm strength behind the dish, while showcasing the ability to impact the baseball with authority to all fields evident by thirty of his sixty-five hits going for extra-bases including seven bombs. He handles high-level pitching extremely well, commands his staff and his offensive prowess makes him a true two-way asset. 1B: Cooper Knight (Buda, TX) Knight is a smooth operator at first base with plenty of range, fluidity and agility in his footwork around the bag. Add-in a rocket for an arm, the ability to change slots and to...

Best Game I Saw: The Dream NTL 18U vs. MBA Scout Team Murphy Jupiter always brings out the best, and we got fireworks from the jump. Turner Marshall gave The Dream an outstanding 4+ innings of work on the mound, holding a lethal MBA team at bay with Chance Dixon, Derrick Carter, and Ellis Appling providing an offensive spark out of the gate for the Georgia based boys. However, it was only a matter of time before the talent on the other side got going, as MBA erased a 3-run deficit in the 5th to take a 4-3 lead led by a Parker Loew HR. The Dream then took command again in the Top of the 6th, before MBA punched right back with a huge 5-run inning in the bottom half capped off by a clutch RBI single from Matthew Kerrigan, ending a wild sequence with tons of notable performances from two very competitive rosters. Best Tournament Performance I Saw: Surely someone has already brought this...

Nebraska Cornhuskers 2025 Highlights: The Cornhuskers were a difficult team to figure in ’25 as they finished with 33 wins, played just .500 (15-15) in the Big Ten but had some big wins at various times during the season and got hot at the right time. They knocked off then #16 Vanderbilt in the second game of the year, beat #5 Oregon State 2-out-of-3 at home in late March and then got hot at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha to win the Big Ten Tournament. They beat Michigan State in a 10-inning thriller before taking care of #4 Oregon, knocking off Penn State and then shutout #13 UCLA to punch their ticket to the Chapel Hill Regional. Head coach Will Bolt has now led his alma mater to three conference titles and three NCAA Regional appearances during his six years in Lincoln. No different than when he was a player, Bolt’s teams play with passion and toughness, this was never more...

Finest in the Field: Class of 2026 | Class of 2027 You like athletes? You like defenders who can impact a game at any given point? Look not further than this class as it's loaded from coast-to-coast with elite defenders all over the diamond.  C: Brogan Witcher, Bakersfield, CA Our scouting staff got several strong looks at Witcher whether that was at the Summer Kickoff, Sophomore National or the Underclass All American Games where he showcased his strong overall skillset and especially his advanced ability behind the plate. His 6-foot-3,180 pound build looks like one that will fill in quite nicely and be that big and physical catcher’s frame. His arm talent is undeniable where he gets it out quick and runs it up to 79 mph on throwdowns to 2nd (1.84 pop). Besides the standout catch/throw ability, we’ve seen him frame/receive strong arms and block it well during...

We would like to thank those that donated a toy, and know that they will be distributed to area underprivileged children through a local charity organization. Following are some of the top performers from the weekend. Earning Tournament MV-Pitcher was Jolee Strohmeyer (2026 Dubuque, IA), a RHP/UTIL with tournament champion Lady Expos Blue. Strohmeyer shows hitters a consistent and repeatable motion and delivery with good use of the legs in the drive phase, and a quick and aggressive arm whip. Working with a six pitch mix of fastball, change-up, rise, drop, curve and screw, Strohmeyer topped out at 60 mph, and showed good movement  as she worked her rise and curve just out...

The game was an efficiently played affair with arms dominating on both sides. Graham Schlicht was masterful for Alpha, striking out 12 hitters over 5 dominant innings.
