Royal vs. Red Highlights

2/24/2019

The Royal offense got out to an early start, plating a run right away in the first inning thanks to a line drive single from Cooper Devall (2023 C, Sulphur, LA) lined the pitch through the six-hole, bringing in Zane Kelly (2023 LHP, Las Vegas, NV) who picked up another base knock with a single back up the middle.

Christian Key (2022 3B, Terrell, TX) put another nice swing on the ball, going down to get a fastball at the knees while getting the barrel to the ball for a well struck single.

Kaden Stegent (2023 SS, Cypress, TX) put an impressive swing on the ball in his first at-bat, going with an outer half fastball that was cutting away for al ine drive single into the right-center field gap.

Conner Bennett (2023 C, Spring, TX) showed some of the quicker hands of the day, whipping the barrel through the zone while connecting for a loud and hard single through the six-hole.

Anthony Marnell, IV (2023 C, Las Vegas, NV) helped get the Red team on the board with a double to the left-center field gap, showing some strength to his hands to fight off an inner half pitch and drive in a run.

Royal vs. Gold Highlights

2/24/2019

Dominick Rush (2023 OF, Las Vegas, NV) showed his athleticism on the mound, repeating his delivery while filling the strike zone and runnihg his fastball up to 77 mph. Along with his fastball, Rush also showed a feel for his curveball which he mixed well and landed for strikes.

Landyn Grant (2023 LHP, White Oak, TX) picked up a well struck single into left field his first at-bat, getting the barrel to the ball and projects well as he fills his 6-foot-2 frame moving forward.

Kaden Stegent (2023 SS, Cypress, TX) reached base to lead off the innin for the Royal squad with a single up the middle. He then stole second base and got himself into scoring position, eventually tagging up to plate the team’s first run of the game.

After a nice showing on the mound yesterday, Zane Kelly (2023 LHP, Las Vegas, NV) continued to perform, picking up another base hit from the left side of the plate while also showing his arm strength from centerfield to throw a runner out at second base.

Game Highlights Maroon vs Purple

2/24/2019

John Youens (2023 OF, Waco, TX) continued to swing a hot bat, showing bat speed and the ability to turn on balls with authority, lined a well hit single to the pull side of second base with jump off the barrel in his first at-bat. He shows instincts on the bases and the ability to read pitchers well, collecting a pair of stolen bases on the day.

Tyler Lang (2023 C, Chesterfield, MO) picked up where he left off on day one, continuing to find the barrel of the bat with ease. In his first at-bat he laced a line drive through the middle of the field, showing a simple approach that stays on the plane with the ball with extreme consistency. Also pitched, with an easy and simple delivery showing solid body control and command of the strike zone.

Brandon Swanson (2023 3B, Las Vegas, NV) hammered a line drive single to the opposite field with a loose swing that generates solid bat speed, showing the ability to use the whole field after impacting two well hit balls on Saturday. Swanson consistently finds the barrel of the bat with authority.

Noah Marsh (2023 SS, Springfield, MO) collected a RBI-single with a well hit ball down the right field line in his last at-bat after doubling in his first at-bat of the day to finish 2-for-2 at the plate. He also worked two innings on the mound with an easy and fluid delivery that maintains solid direction to the plate, showing a smaller breaking ball with depth.

Red vs. Gold

2/24/2019

Conner Bennett (2023 C, Spring, TX) made the start for the Red team and was able to induce weak contact early and often in the count. He worked in the low-70s with his fastball but showed lots of comfort landing his 12-6 shaped curveball for strikes. He also picked up a single in his first at-bat taking a full count fastball into left field.

Blake Brown (2023 SS, Montgomery, TX) made a nice play at shortstop for the Red team, ranging into the hole where he picked the ball cleanly with the backhand and made a nice, accurate throw across the diamond.

Christian Key (2022 3B, Terrell, TX) picked up the first knock of the game for either side, lining a pitch over the shortstop’s head for a line drive single. He was worked in the mid-70s with his fastball on the mound and showed a feel for his curveball which he landed for strikes.

Rob Duvall (2023 C, Lawrenceville, GA) showed his stretch from the left side again, hitting a high pop up to center field that fell in for a single and plated the first run of the game for the Gold squad.

Making the trip from Indiana, Caden Cornett (2023 OF, Greenwood, IN) ran his fastball up to 78 mph over his two innings of work. He developed a feel for his curveball and did a ncie job of filling the zone, projecting for more velocity moving forward.

Batting Practice Highlights

2/23/2019

Landon Graves (2023 OF, Monroe, LA) did a nice job of staying short to the ball with his righthanded swing, showing quickness to his hands and whip to the barrel with some jump off the barrel, projecting with additional half incorporate.

Tripp Landers (2023 C, Clinton, AR) showed strength in his hands with his stroke throughout the round, getting closed with his lower half while shifting into contact. He shows present bat speed through the zone and leverage out front with the best carry coming to his pull side.

Rob Duvall (2023 C, Lawrenceville, GA) is one of the more physical players in attendance and he incorporates that strength well into his lefthanded swing. He stays short to the ball and looks to attack while impacting the baseball, displaying the ability to create backspin and hard contact to the middle of the field.

Conner Bennett (2023 C, Spring, TX) has nice control of the barrel from the right side and shows offensive ingredients to work with. He has looseness to his hands and gets the barrel through the zone well with strength coming off when squared.

Elliott Foreman (2023 C, Diana, TX), a primary catcher, puts together a nice round, showing balance to his swing and extension out front. He stays short with his swing and consistently got the barrel to the ball, working his pull side with comfort and showing backspin when squared.

Samson Pugh (2023 SS, Montgomery, TX) remained short with his swing moving into contact and while he projects with additional extension, he still showed the ability to create backspin with looseness to his hands and projects moving forward.

Brayden Buchanan's (2023 C, Austin, TX) righthanded swing is one that projects as he showed, especially when on time with his weight shift. With a full swing path Buchanan was able to generate leverage to his path with extension out front and the best contact to his pull side.

Cameran Christ (2023 C, Lake Charles, LA) is a young Mississippi State commit and his abilities from the left side of the plate show why. He incorporates his strength well and connected for some of the louder contact, creating solid bat speed through the zone and still projects very well moving forward.

Jon Shields (2023 BHP, Katy, TX) is a switch-hitter who knows how to incorporate the strength on his 6-foot-1 frame from both sides of the plate. His swing and strength play a bit more from the right side at present with jump off the barrel, showing a handle for the barrel too.

Blake Brown (2023 SS, Montgomery, TX) did well in staying direct to the ball from the right side, showing quickness to his hands. While he can continue to refine his lower half mechanics and shorten his load, Brown did well in handling the barrel while working to all parts of the field.

Dillon Lester (2023 C, Baytown, TX) is another young switch-hitter who showed skill from both sides of the plate though he’s more refined from the right side at present. He shows balance to his stroke as well as quickness to his hands, showing carry off the barrel and steady squared contact.

Zane Kelly (2023 LHP, Las Vegas, NV) might be listed as a primary lefthanded pitcher but he swung the bat well throughout his round of batting practice. With a projectable 5-11/155 frame Kelly shows looseness to his hands while creating separation out front and jump off of the barrel.

Game Highlights Gold vs Purple

2/23/2019

Samson Pugh (2023 SS, Montgomery, TX) shows a high level of athleticism on the mound and at the plate. Pugh displayed a fluid and easy delivery from a high-3/4 arm slot with a loose and quick arm. Worked three innings on the mound while showing a fastball in the mid-70's and flashing a curveball with 11/5 shape and solid spin. Collected a pair well hit balls to the pull side with a quiet approach that shows good plate coverage and bat speed.

Ben Tryon (2023 SS, Southlake, TX) showed bat speed and a feel for covering the plate with the barrel, lacing a line drive single to left field in his first at-bat of the day. Uses a simple set up and simple approach but packs some punch in the bat, showing a line drive swing plane. Also pitched, showing a loose arm with some whip, worked aggressively off the fastball with slight arm side run and sinking action.

Ryan Galvan (2023 2B, Alice, TX) showed he could handle the bat with men in scoring position by grinding out a tough at-bat and smoking a hard lined single to right field in his second trip to the plate.

Jimsharon Bearden (2023 OF, Orange, TX) found the barrel with a gap-to-gap approach and swings with intent to do damage. Made hard contact without much to show for it, Bearden showed some bat speed and solid barrel to ball skills.

Royal vs. Red Highlights

2/23/2019

Gage Driskell (2023 OF, Nederland, TX) put a nice swing on the ball during his first trip to the plate, staying short and compact with his swing while picking up a line drive single to drive in the first run of the game. In his next two at-bats Driskell picked up another two singles, pulling the ball into left field both times.

Dillon Lester (2023 C, Baytown, TX) continued from what he showed in batting practice, finding the barrel from the right side for a loud double that hopped up against the fence in left field.

Dominick Rush (2023 OF, Las Vegas, NV) helped pace the offense, scoring the club’s first run of the game. After putting a nice swing on the ball in which he pulled the barrel in on an inner half fastball for a single, Rush proceeded to steal second and third, showing a good read on a ball in the dirt. He also showed his arm strength off from right field, throwing out a runner at second base.

Zane Kelly (2023 LHP, Las Vegas, NV) ran his fastball up to 80 mph on the bump from the left side, spinning a nice curveball and in the process picked up eight strikeouts in four innings. He also singled in his first two at-bats, beating out an infield single before going to the opposite field in his second trip.

Kevin Cordes (2023 OF, Manvel, TX) picked up a double down the opposite field line in his second trip to the plate, going with the pitch for his first knock of the game.

John Calvin Davis (2023 SS, Argyle, TX) showed off some of the smoother defensive actions at shortstop in the game, circling the ball well while showing soft hands and accurate throws. He also sat back on a curveball well and collected a single in his first at-bat.

Cameran Christ (2023 C, Lake Charles, LA) came out ahead in a left on left matchup in his first at-bat, turning on a fastball for a line drive over the second baseman’s head for a single. He showed well defensively behind the plate too, bouncing around with loose actions and shows a strong arm to second.

Game Highlights Maroon vs Purple

2/23/2019

Kendall George (2023 OF, Humble, TX) was 1-for-2 at the plate with an opposite field single in his first at-bat of the day. He shows game changing speed out of the box and on the bases with a high level of athleticism. There is projectability to his present skill set but nothing more impressive than his high end speed from the left side of the plate.

Tyler Lang (2023 C, Chesterfield, MO) found the barrel consistently with solid contact on a pair of line drive singles on the day. Lang shows a simple and easy swing path, that generates slight lift. with solid bat speed and a knack for getting on plane with pitches.

Brandon Swanson (2023 3B, Las Vegas, NV) finished the game 1-for-2 at the plate with a line drive swing plane adding another well hit ball through the middle of the field for a single to centerfield. Swanson has quick hands to compliment solid plate coverage and a quiet approach at the plate.

Game Highlights Gold vs Maroon

2/23/2019

Elliott Foreman (2023 C, Diana, TX) worked an impressive 3 innings on the mound with a fastball that sat in the 80-82 mph range and topped at 83. He created solid downhill plane on his fastball, recording 8 strikeouts while allowing just 2 hits and no runs. His quick and loose arm, with present size and athletic ability makes him an extremely projectable pitcher.

John Youens (2023 OF, Waco, TX) used a three-pitch-mix at will over two innings on the mound, surrendering a lone single and punching out three without allowing a run. With a full 3/4 arm slot and showing feel for landing his secondary pitches, including a 2/8 shaped curveball, Youens shows projectable qualities on the mound. He also shows feel at the plate for finding the barrel with a pair of well hit balls in a 1-for-2 day, including a lined single to centerfield.

Brandon Swanson (2023 3B, Las Vegas, NV) scored a run with good instincts and an aggressive approach on the bases, showing good dirt ball reads. Swanson showed good patience at the plate and moved the ball well in the barrel with a hard lined ball to centerfield, he also collected a walk on the day.

Zane Adams (2023 LHP, Porter, TX) put a good swing on a ball showing bat speed and the ability to turn on a ball on the inner half. Finished the day 1-for-1 at the plate with a hard lined single into right-centerfield.
