Steel vs Royal Game Highlights

5/21/2017

Emmanuel Arias (2019 SS, Miami Beach, FL) Showed an aggressive approach with present bat speed and balance while at the plate. Attacked first pitch of second at bat driving a hard hit double. 

Markeys Taveras (2018 C, Kissimmee, FL) Consistently barreled the baseball throughout the game producing a hard hit single up the middle and a hard line out to shortstop. Also pitched, effectively filling the strike zone with a fastball that topped at 81 miles per hour while striking out the side. 

Jorge Valdes (2018 OF, Miami, FL) Showed a high contact approach with a line drive swing plane through extension. Squared to ball up very hard at the shortstop for a base hit and sharp line out. 

Michael Reagan (2018 LHP, Safety Harbor, FL) Showed good balance at the plate with the ability to control the barrel throughout the zone. Stayed back nicely on pitches driving to ball the other way for base hits. 

Kyle Iarrobino (2018 RHP, Key West, FL) Had good feel for a fastball offering that had solid downward angle through the zone in the mid 80's, topped at 86 miles per hour. Iarrobino consistently attacked hitters striking out six batters over four innings of work.

Jason Wittenstein (2017 LHP, Coral Springs, FL) Produced occasional sink with a fastball offering that topped at 82 miles per hour from a low three-quarters arm slot. Completed three shutout innings while striking out four batters. 

Red vs White

Connor Price (2018 LHP, Tampa, FL) - In the batters box Price featured a strong body with an open stance, showing the ability to drive the ball. In his second at bat he drive one deep to center field to pick up the double, later scoring in the inning.

Jose Gonzalez (2019 C, Miami, FL) - An aggressive hitter who showed very well at the plate with a compact line drive swing. Went 2 for 2 with a line drive single up the middle in his first at bat, and an RBI double to the opposite field in only other at bat on the day.

Josh Weber (2018 RHP, Bradenton, FL) - Showed good size on the mound with athletic actions. His fastball topped out in the mid 80's, with a 3/4 slot and medium effort. His sound mechanics and strong mound presence resulted in 4.0 innings pitched, striking out 3 and not allowing a run. In unison with his fastball he featured a very good change up around 75 MPH, showing the ability to mix pitches and keep hitters off balance.

Hunter Bogumil (2018 RHP, Bradenton, FL) - With a lenky and long 6' 5" frame Bogumil showed the ability to get on top of the baseball with an easy effort in his delivery. His low 80's fastball allowed him to rack up 3 K's in 3.0 innings pitched, only allowing 1 earned run. Mechanically sound with good late movement on his curveball which sat around 67-70 MPH.

Adam Jackman (2019 RHP, Port Washington, NY) - A very crafty pitcher with a good curveball showing the ability to mix up his pitches. Kept the hitters guessing which allowed him to pitch 2 1/3 scoreless innings with no runs given up.

Columbia Blue vs. Navy Scout Notes

Kevin L. Bermudez Cruz (2018 SS, Caguas, PR)- showcased his ability to manufacture runs, going 2-3 with 3 runs scored on the day. Bermudez Cruz also demonstrated his aggressiveness to run on the base paths throughout the game.

Eric Bonkowski (2018 OF, Plantation, FL)- Excellent gap power with hard, consistent contact. 2 doubles on the day had Bonkowski driving in 2 runs as well. Bonkowski also demonstrated his pitching ability, fanning 3 over 2 innings. Fastball was consistently low 80s and touched 84 on a few.

Tyler Townsend (2018 LHP, Lake Worth, FL)- The lefty was able to amount 7 strikeouts over his 4 innings, keeping hitters off balance throughout. Mixing in fastballs topping at 81 with a curve sitting in the upper 60s.

Frank Elissalt (2020 3B, Miami, FL)- Came in and struck out the side with a fastball anywhere from 76-79 mixing in a mid-60s curve and a consistent, 68 mph change.

Austin Davis (2018 SS, Orlando, FL)- An all-around ballplayer, Davis went 3-3 at the plate with a couple of stolen bases. Hard contact and solid fielding had Austin standing out today.

Roberto Lopez (2020 OF, Miramar, FL)- solid contact at the plate resulted in a 2-3 day from the soon to be sophomore outfielder.

Immanuel Bezares (2018 SS, Orlando, FL)- Threw 2 innings with 5ks keeping hitters guessing with his fastball and curve ball. Bezares commanded the zone well, touching 82 with the fastball and his curve sitting 63-67.

 

 


Orange vs Green

5/21/2017

Jeremy Rivera (2018 LHP, Vega Baja, PR) - Showed a great ability to retire hitters via the strikeout ending with 7 K's in 4.0 innings pitched, giving up 3 hits and 2 earned runs. Rivera filed up the zone with a quick arm, topping out at 83 MPH with the fastball. Also featured a 73 MPH changeup and a good feel for his curveball at 72 MPH.

Blaine Hogue (2019 SS, Deland, FL) - A great line drive approach to all fields helped Hogue collect 2 hits in 2 trips. Both singles were a product of good balance at the dish with an ability to sit back and make solid contact on the off speed pitches. 

Sam Alheit (2019 LHP, Chesapeake, VA) - In 4.0 innings pitched, Alheit racked up 5 K's while only giving up 1 earned run on 2 hits. His fastball was effective working arm side against righty's, showing the ability to miss barrels and fire strikes. Mechanically was sound and repeated his delivery well, with a 69 MPH curveball and a 69 MPH changeup.

Jeanluis Torres (2018 OF, Gurabo, PR) - Showed some life on his fastball thanks in part to a quick arm at a 3/4 angle. Occasional cut on his 83 MPH heater collecting 2 K's in 1 inning of work, giving up no hits or earned runs. 

3-Maroon vs. 6-Purple Highlights

Alex Freeland (2020-Cape Coral, FL): The 2016 PG Select Festival participant pitched the first four frames for the Maroon team, allowing only a single hit and striking out 3. He worked 77-81 MPH with a heavy fastball and showed a quality breaking ball as well, really pounding the zone. He's also an outstanding defensive shortstop with impressive hitting tools from both sides of the plate.

Angel Gabriel Jimenez (2018 OF, Santo Domingo, SD): Showed a very quick bat in his at-bats, resulting in a single and a hard lineout to left field. He's athletic with good strength through his body, and stole a base as well. 

Spencer Stanton (2019 LHP, Massillon, OH): Stanton showed a clean stroke on a line drive plane with the ability to square the ball up back through the middle and to the opposite field, staying balanced throughout. 

Alejandro Diaz De Villegas (2018 RHP, Miami, FL): Dominant over his 4 innings, working 81-85 MPH with his fastball and missing bats with both his curveball and slider. He pounded the zone and showed consistent stuff throughout his outing. 

Marcos Pujols (2018 3B, Melbourne, FL): Showed big bat speed and has shown big power in the past; drove the ball on a line to left field as he stayed back on a changeup and hit it squarely. It's a pretty smooth stroke throughout. 

Sunshine East Batting Practice Highlights

Oscar Santos (2018 SS, Carolina, PR): Took a very consistent round, generates solid bat speed onto a line drive plane with very quick hands. Consistently barreled the ball up and projects to hit for some power with development. 

Erick Rivera (2018 OF, Salinas, PR): Gets on a very clean path with his hands and creates good bat speed with some good power. Leverages well out front and gets ball into the air with authority, consistently. 

Michael Reagan (2018 LHP, Safety Harbor, FL): Reagan is a primary pitcher, but took a solid round of BP, showing a simple and repeatable swing the ability to put the barrel on the baseball consistently with liners to all fields. 

Hunter Fornari (2018 SS, Ponce Inlet, FL): The College of Charleston commit showed loose hands with quality bat speed; lining the ball to all fields and his projectable frame suggests he'll hit for some power at maturity as well. 

Cameron Norgren (2017 3B, Cary, NC): The switch-hitter showed solid bat speed from both sides with good loft to his path; driving the ball with gap-to-gap power and the ability do damage. 

Jeanluis Torres (2018 OF, Gurabo, PR): Very physical prospect with good strength throughout, drove the ball deep into the air and showed off legitimate power potential in the process with a smooth stroke. 

Sebastian Jimenez (2020 C, Miami, FL): Does a good job creating separation and torquing his hips through contact; shows quality barrel control with the ability to hit firm liners to all fields.

Jorge Rivera (2018 C, Orlando, FL): Showed a clean stroke with quality bat speed; did a good job striking the ball out front and driving rising liners to all fields, projects for power as well.

Zach West (2017 SS, Dunnellon, FL): Committed to the College of Central Florida, West showed good ability to stay on a line drive plane and hit the ball to all fields with some level of authority; good bat to ball skills overall. 

Alexander Andalia (2018 OF, Homestead, FL): Showed really solid bat speed in one of the most consistent round of the day; driving rising liners to all fields with the ability to manipulate the barrel and show some pop as well. 

Rafael Acosta (2018 C, Santo Domingo, NC): Very strong player, used that strength well into his swing and showed the ability to drive the ball deep to the pull field with authority. 

Kyle Benedict (2019 OF, Lutz, FL): Showed a compact, line drive stroke with easy and repeatable swing mechanics; stayed committed to the middle of the field and did a good job of working to all fields when necessary.

Eric Bonkowski (2018 OF, Plantation, FL): Did a good job of hitting the ball into the air with authority and good bat speed; worked well into the opposite field gap with some pop.

Matthew Campina (2020 C, Orlando, FL): Showed good strength and bat speed overall into swing, doing a good job generating loft and driving the ball into the air with projectable power. 

Francesco Calderon (2017 1B, Guayaquil, GY): Showed pretty solid raw power to the pull field, driving it deep into the air with potential HR power with more consistency in his swing. 

Benny Hernandez (2018 1B, Cedar Hill, TX): Swings the bat hard with real intent and lower half drive; drove quite a few deep on a line with the strength and bat speed for very real pop.

Spencer Stanton (2019 LHP, Massillon, OH): Stayed compact throughout with good bat speed and consistent barrel skills; worked mostly to the pull field with authority and good jump off the barrel. 

Brett Cook (2019 2B, Richmond, VA): Showed very fast hands with consistent, loud contact; drove the ball on a line to all fields, and his physicality suggests he'll have quality power at maturity as well. 

Donovan Lynch (2018 OF, Apopka, FL): Showed good looseness to swing with quality bat speed; worked mostly to the pull field with the ability to square the ball up into the air with authority.

Alexis Davila (2018 C, Vega Alta, PR): Took the loudest round of the day in terms of power; very strong player with good bat speed and lots of leverage out front, drove the ball into the air with authority and home run pop.

Ricky Neyman (2017 3B, Wellington, FL): Stayed committed to the middle of the field and worked to all fields at times; did a good job driving the ball up both gaps with consistency. 

Maroon vs. Navy Scout Notes

Austin Davis (2018 SS, Orlando, FL)- Was able to showcase his speedy, athletic ability going 2-4 with a stolen base, setting up the game’s first run.

Alexis Davila (2018 C, Vega Alta, PR)- was impressive with the bat today. Going 2-3 with a double off the left field wall in his first at-bat, followed by a solo shot over left in his second. His quick, compact swing allows him to really get through the ball.

Jaden Zumbrum (2020 1B, Orlando, FL)- showed some gap power going 2-3 with a double to left and a run scored. Zumbrum hit the ball hard in all three at-bats, presenting his opposite field power as well.

Lucas Ismaili (2020 SS, Dunedin, FL)- kept hitters off balance during his 3 innings of work, fanning 3 while changing speeds effectively. Fastball was ranging between 74-80 while mixing in some curves and change ups sitting in the low to mid 60s.

Benny Hernandez (2018 1B, Cedar Hill, TX)- had a solid day at the plate, amounting 2 hits in his 3 at-bats with a run scored. Benny was patient on off-speed pitches and demonstrated that with a hard line drive to left on a curve.

Cole Beverlin (2018 RHP, Port Orange, FL)- was lights out on the mound. 4 innings with 1 hit allowed while amounting 7 strikeouts as well. Beverlin commanded the zone with a fastball sitting 82-86 and his curve at 73-75.

Ryan McCauley (2020 RHP, Trinity, FL)- kept the great pitching going with 3 innings of no hit ball. McCauley also struck out 3 with his mid-80s fastball, 68 mph change-ups, and a mixture of curves ranging from 64-67.

 


Steel vs White

5/20/2017

Christopher Bohrer (2018 3B, Miami, FL) - Went 1 for 2 on the day with a bullet of a single. Made hard contact using an even stance, with a high back elbow. Also, showed great athleticism and fluid movements on the field. 

Brian Montanez (2018 SS, Arroyo, PR) - Started his day with an RBI single in the 1st inning. Montanez showed a good opposite field approach with a short line drive swing.

Turner Jamieson (2018 RHP, St. Simons Island, GA) - Had a solid day on the mound going 4.0 innings and topping out at 68 MPH. He also featured a curveball at 58 MPH that allowed him to rack up 4 strikeouts, only giving up 1 hit and 0 earned runs.
 
Andrew Bergeron (2019 SS, Menlo Park, CA) - Opened the game showing some extra base pop with a double, later scoring in the inning. He also collected a single in his last at bat.

Richard Perez (2019 C, Miami, FL) - had a couple of singles in a perfect 2 for 2 showing, joining Bergeron with two hits in the game, showed a line drive path with good barrel control. 

Tyler Rigot (2019 LHP, Weddington, NC) - Showed well on the mound pitching 4.0 innings, giving up 3 hits, 1 earned run and sat down 4 batters. Rigot's fastball topped out at 80 MPH, with a curveball at 64 MPH, and also featured a 73 MPH changeup.

Orange vs. Purple

Carson Stephens (2019 SS, St. Petersburg, FL) showed his athleticism in his team’s first game as he displayed quick hands from the right side, connecting for a ground rule double over the left field wall. He also threw a quick 1-2-3 inning with sinking life to his fastball down in the zone.  

Chad Curtis (2019 RHP, Pembroke Pines, FL) started the game for Orange and ran his fastball up to 82 mph in his first inning of work. He shows a strong build on the mound with a higher arm slot and threw both a changeup and curveball for strikes.

Jacob Treece (2018 LHP, Englewood, FL) impressed during his three frame, consistently sitting in the 80-83 mph from the left side. He picked up five strikeouts, all looking, and moved his fastball around the zone well while throwing his curveball for strike three more than once.

Reece Malek (2020 MIF, Aston, PA) put together a nice day at the plate, starting his showcase by going 2-for-2 with two singles. He plated his team’s first run in the first inning and showed nice speed on the bases with a stolen base as well.

Marcos Pujols (2018 3B, Melbourne, FL) showed some of the biggest bat speed on Field 3 today. He picked up a hard, barreled hit single in his first at-bat and it’s easy to envision him hitting the ball a long ways when he squares it up.

Hunter Fornari (2018 SS, Ponce Inlet, FL) put his tools on display in his team’s first game, both with the bat and at shortstop. He moved well up the middle and showed arm strength while going 2-for-3 with a double and line drive single and showed a sound overall approach.

Cameron Norgren (2017 3B, Cary, NC) dug in right on right and picked up a double in his first at-bat, showing bat speed through the zone as part of a 1-for-2 day. 

David Valuja (2018 OF, Miramar, FL) closed out the game on the mound throwing an inning and ran his fastball up to 81 mph which he kept down at the knees. He also flashed a late tumbling knuckleball in the mid-60s for strikes, providing a different look. 


Red vs Royal Scout Notes

5/20/2017

Christopher Ruckdeschel (2018 OF, Davie, FL)- Was 1-2 with a triple in the game today. Ruckdeschel showed a short quick swing at the plate with some pop in the bat. Christopher also showed the ability to move well on the bases. 

Matt Voda (2018 LHP, Spring Hill, FL)- Tossed 4 innings while allowing only 2 hits and striking out 4. Matt worked from a 3/4 slot with a quick arm action. Fastball sat 83-85 on the day with the ability to locate to both sides. Voda also showed the ability to get weak contact on his Curveball. 

Robert Wegielnik (2018 SS, Fort Myers, FL)- Went 1-2 with a  RBI double and stolen base in the game today. Wegielnik has a bigger build and attacks the ball with some show of power. Robert also was impressive on the mound throwing 2 innings of no hit baseball while striking out 4. Robert's Fastball sat 84-87 from a short quick 3/4 arm slot. 

Michael Reagan (2018 LHP, Safety Harbor, FL)- Threw 4 innings of no hit baseball in his outing today. Michael showed impeccable command on the mound with the Fastball, Curveball, and Changeup. Reagan's Fastball sat 80-83 and showed a good 1/7 Curveball that consistently stayed low in the zone. 


Green vs. Columbia Blue

5/20/2017

Britton Baxter (2018 RHP, Land O Lakes, FL) showed the biggest fastball of the game as he topped out at 86 mph and maintained his velocity throughout the game. The pitch showed short sinking life and he mixed in a curveball up to 72 mph. He also double in his final trip to the plate.

Chase Reed (2017 RHP, Fort Myers, FL) settled in nicely and maintained his velocity over his four innings of work. He topped out at 83 mph and worked down I the zone well when on top of the ball, inducing consistent ground ball contact.

Kyle Benedict (2019 OF, Lutz, FL) had a nice day at the plate going 2-3 and showed a fast bat. His speed played well on the bases with a stolen base while showing a nice line drive stroke in the batter’s box. He scored both runs for Columbia Blue.

Eric Bonkowski (2018 OF, Plantation, FL) put his righthanded swing on display, picking up two base hits on the afternoon. He shows a line drive swing path and after singling in his second trip he ripped a double down the left field line.

Francesco Calderon (2017 1B, Guayaquil, GY) begins open with his stance and uses his physical strength well, showing leverage to his bat path, picking up a single in his second at-bat.

Jarrett Bickel (2018 SS, South Bend, IN) showed off his defensive skills up the middle for the Green team today with a few nice plays. He shows very good arm strength across the diamond with big carry as well as a quick first step.

Tyler Lyons (2020 RHP, Winter Haven, FL) is a young arm who topped out at 74 mph and cruised for four innings of work. He mixed three pitches for strikes and was able to stay off barrels over his entire body of work.
