Day 2 Afternoon Session Top Hitters

2/8/2015

Nolan Arp (2015 C, Cedar Rapids, IA) continued to show consistency at the plate putting together quality at bats and making solid contact with the barrel.

Spencer Van Scoyoc (2016 LHP, Cedar Rapids, IA) posses a large athletic frame and generates quick bat speed from the left side. Good balance in swing and has solid power when he gets his hands extended. 

Jake Dunham (2016 C, Plainfield, IL) showed the ability to drive the ball to all parts of the field. He has a balanced approach at the plate and takes aggressive swings driving the ball with regular contact. 


Day 2 Afternoon Session Top Pitchers

2/8/2015

Foster Anshutz (2015 LHP, Des Moines, IA) pitched in the 80 - 82 mph with good life and command. He showed a smooth online delivery and generates good downward plane on his fastball. Anshutz also featured a 68 mph curveball with good depth and tight rotation, as well as a deceptive 72 mph straight changeup.

Jarred Wood (2017 RHP, Cedar Rapids, IA) pitched in the 84 - 87 mph range showing solid command and generating lots of life on his fastball from a high ¾’s arm slot. Wood has a smooth online delivery and creates good plane on his fastball when down in the zone. He also mixed in a sharp 11 – 5 curveball with plenty of depth and bite as well as a splitter with good depth and arm side run.

Sunday Top Hitters Morning Session

Cooper Johnson (2016 C, Mundelein, IL) posses an athletic thick build and displays a relaxed approach at the plate. He drives the ball from gap to gap making solid consistent contact. Johnson also shows good plate coverage and quick bat speed.

Trey Beckman (2015 OF, Cedar Rapids, IA) posses an athletic build and flashes good bat speed at the plate. He showed solid hitting mechanics at the plate and a sound approach. 

Luke Farley (2015 OF, Denver, IA) showed a balanced athletic stance and handled the bat well against top velocity. He displayed power to all fields and great plate recognition. Farley posses a strong athletic frame and generates quick bat speed. He also threw in the 80 – 84 mph range featuring a lively fastball. 


Sunday Top Pitchers Morning Session

2/8/2015

Christopher Comito Jr (2015 RHP, Norwalk, IA) topped out at 88 mph with his fastball generating plenty of life and plane. He has a long lean frame with room to fill and pitches from a high ¾ arm slot. Comito also flashed a solid changeup to go along with his sharp curveball with tight spin and rotation.

Ryan Schmitt (2016 RHP, Hartland, WI) showed plenty of life on his fastball pitching in the 84 – 87 mph range. He generates quick arm speed from his medium frame and also uses his lower half well. Schmitt also featured a sharp 76 mph curveball with late bite and depth.

Jonah Peralta (2015 RHP, Kamuela, HI) sat in the 82 -86 mph range with good life on his fastball from a high ¾’s arm slot. He showed the ability to command a good changeup with arm side run and some sink. Peralta also featured a solid curveball with good action and depth.

Alec Morrison (2016 RHP, Middleton, WI) sat in the 80 – 82 mph range but his fastball provided lots of life and movement. He has a deceptive delivery hiding the ball well from an extended low ¾’s arm slot. He pounded the strike zone mixing in a solid changeup with arm side run and flashed a 11-5 curveball with good depth and late break.

Brett Vosik (2016 3B, Omaha, NE) was up to 88 mph as he creates good downward plane on his fastball from his long, wiry, athletic frame. He flashed a 71 mph 11 – 5 curveball with good depth and late break. Vosik generates solid power from his long lean build and gets good extension with his barrel. He delivered solid contact from his power approach and posses quick bat speed.

Drew Denkinger (2015 RHP, Johnston, IA) pitched in the 86 - 90 mph range with good life on his fastball. He showed solid command of his fastball to both sides of the plate. Denkinger mixed in some deceptive changeups with arm side run and sink, and featured a curveball with tight spin and good depth. 

Carter Brown (2016 RHP, Bentonville, AR) pitched in the 84 – 86 mph range showing good command of all four of his pitches. He showed lots of life on his fastball with a quick arm and also featured a 76 mph sweeping slider, a 72 mph sharp curveball with good depth, and a changeup with good sink and run. Brown has a smooth and easy delivery to go with his loose and lively arm. 


Shilling Stands Out in P/C Indoor

Luke Shilling (2015 RHP, Clarkston, MI) posses a heavy fastball with exceptional life and run sitting in the 92 – 94 mph range. Shilling is free and easy as the ball jumps out of his hands from a smooth and repeatable delivery. He showed the ability to command a plus 78 mph 11 – 5 curveball with tight spin, late break and plenty of depth. Shilling also flashed a plus 81 -84 mph changeup with good deception and arm side run with sink.

Nolan Arp (2015 C, Cedar Rapids, IA) has good mechanics at the plate and a solid approach.  Showed a balanced swing and is on time with his swing barreling up the ball consistently.

Caleb Stekl (2016 C, Marion, IA) showed a pull approach with solid gap-to-gap power. Stekl has an athletic build that generates hard and consistent contact at the plate.


Afternoon Session Top Pitchers

Cal Coughlin (2016 3B, Lake Forest, IL) pitched in the 90 -92 mph range with good command from an extended ¾ arm slot. He has a solid athletic build and creates good downward plane on his fastball. Flashes a power slider with late break and depth and also can change speeds with it. Mixed in a good changeup with arm side run and sink. Has the potential to be a solid two way player showing good bat speed, an advanced approach, and has good plate recognition.

Bryant Jordan (2015 RHP, Hubertus, WI) topped out 91 mph with arm side run and sink on his fastball. Flashed a very good changeup with lots of sink and arm side run. Has a low effort, easy, and repeatable delivery. Also mixed in a good curveball with sharp late breaking depth. 

Casey Kempner (2016 LHP, Northbrook, IL) was up to 85 with his fastball from an extended ¾ arm slot. Has a tall loose projectable build with room to fill. Showed a good changeup with lots of arm side run and an 11/7 curveball with good depth. Has a smooth repeatable delivery.

Erik Miller (2016 LHP, St. Louis, MO) has a big mature build and pitched in the 87 – 89 mph range from a high ¾ arm slot. Has a polished delivery and mixes all his pitches for strikes. Flashed a good curveball that he located for strikes that has tight spin, late break, and good depth. Also displayed a good changeup with some arm side run and depth.

Ethan Hahn (2017 RHP, Ames, IA) pitched in the 80 – 82 mph range with an extended ¾ arm slot. Has a long wiry frame with room to fill with a smooth online delivery. Flashed a good changeup with arm side run and sink, and mixed in a late breaking curveball with good command.

Caleb Larson (2018 RHP, Wheaton, IL) threw his fastball in the 82 – 83 mph range with loose easy arm actions. He pitches from a high ¾ arm slot and generates good downward plane on his fastball with arm side run.  Larson mixed in a good straight changeup some arm side run and a sweeping 11 – 5 curveball with late break and good depth.

Johnny Hawk (2016 C, McClelland, IA) hit from a slightly open stance with good bat speed. He showed an aggressive approach at the plate with strength in his swing. 

Jack Kinzer (2016 C, Grafton, WI)  hit from a slightly open stance with good extension through his swing. He squared the ball up consistently and showed good bat speed.

Nicholas Blomgren (2015 C, Milton, WI) showed an aggressive approach at the plate with a line drive swing plane and good pop in his bat.

Michael Nielsen (2016 C, Bloomingdale, IL) showed good balance through his swing with a good approach at the plate. He showed good bat speed with good extension.

Cal Coughlin (2016 3B, Lake Forest, IL) from the right side he showed a quick-short swing with good hand path to the ball. From the left side he showed good bat speed with pop in his bat.

Nolan Arp (2015 C, Cedar Rapids, IA) showed a quiet approach at the plate with a good swing and good balance through his swing and good extension.

Max McCay (2016 C, Carlisle, IA) has a good setup and approach and also showed good balance throughout his swing. He is a high-energy player that works hard behind the plate and has quick smooth actions.

Zachary Fascia (2016 C, Brampton, ON) pitched in the 86 -88 mph range from an over the top arm slot. He generates good downward plane and has a lively arm as the ball jumps out of his hand. Showed good command of all his pitches mixing in sharp 12 – 6 curveball with late break and good depth.

Johnny Hawk (2016 C, McClelland, IA) has a thick build with a quick aggressive swing. He has a high handset and generates good bat speed through the zone. The ball jumps off his bat and shows solid tools at the plate.

Spencer VanDerStarren (2016 C, Misssissauga, ON) has a medium build with a thick lower half and drives the ball from gap to gap.  He has a good eye at the plate and shows good pitch recognition.

Nicholas Blomgren (2015 C, Milton, WI)shows good physical strength at the plate with an aggressive swing. Consistently put the barrel on the ball and generates good power from his quick bat.


Morning Session Top Arms for Royal

Zac Bianucci (2016 LHP, Naperville, IL) pitched in the 80 -81 mph range from a low ¾ arm slot with good arm side run and sink. He has a large frame with long wiry arms and the ball jumps out of his hand. He mixed in a late sharp breaking curveball and a good changeup with some arm side run and sink. 

Michael Hojnacki (2017 RHP, Saint Louis, MO) sat in the 82 – 83 mph range with good downward plane and arm side run on his fastball. Hojnacki has an over the top arm slot and gets good extension out front. Showed a 12 – 6 curveball with good depth and bite.

Tate Meade (2018 RHP, Williamsport, KY) topped out at 83 mph and the ball jumped out of his hand from a ¾ arm slot. He showed good command on both sides of the plate while mixing in a sharp 11-5 curveball. Meade pitches with sound mechanics and has a smooth, repeatable, online delivery.

Jonah Ulane (2016 RHP, Omaha, NE) sat in the 84 -87 mph range with a heavy fastball that gets on hitters quick. He generates good downward plane from a high ¾ arm slot and showed good command from both sides of the plate. He mixed in a good changeup with arm side run and a sharp late breaking 10 – 6 curveball. 

Nathan Burns (2017 RHP, West Bend, WI) was up to 83 mph with his fastball and had good arm side run and sink. He also mixed in a sharp late breaking slider that showed good depth, and a very good changeup with lots of sink and arm side run. 

Isaac Olson (2016 RHP, Glendale, MO) pitched in the 83 – 86 mph range from a ¾ arm slot. He generates good downward plane from his tall lanky frame and showed a smooth repeatable delivery. Olson pitched with good command to both sides of the plate mixing in a late breaking 11 – 5 curveball with lots of depth, and a changeup with good arm side run and sink.
