Columbia Blue vs. Navy Highlights

5/6/2018

Both Cam McGugan (2022 C, Groton, CT) and Sean McGee (2022 SS, Hanover, MA) singled on fastballs early in the first inning for the Columbia Blue team and both came around to score with McGee coming in on a Sean Aronson (2022 C, Virginia Beach, VA) single in which he went with a curveball into the opposite field.

Joshua Baez (2021 OF, Dorchester, MA) found another barrel in today’s action as he continued to show nice strength and bat speed for a loud single into the left-center field gap. He also worked quick inning on the mound and was up to 80 mph with his fastball.

Antonio DiGrigoli (2022 C, Brooklyn, NY) barreled up another ball to the middle of the field, creating loud contact coming off as he picked up an RBI on the single.

Gilbert Saunders  III (2022 RHP, Gilbertsville, PA), a primary pitcher, connected for one of the louder and deeper pieces of the showcase with a deep double into left field. He also started on the mound and was up to 79 mph on the bump.

John Hernandez (2022 RHP, Boston, MA) promptly followed Saunders with a deep double of his own into left field for his first hit of the game.

Hernandez, above, would have had an RBI with his double if not for the strike that Ivan Arias (2022 SS, Boston, MA) delivered on the cut to get the runner at the plate. Arias also showed nice barrel skills at the plate as he picked up a line drive single into right field with an extended and loose stroke.

Aidan Paradine (2023 C, Bayonne, NJ) enjoyed a productive day at the plate going 2-for-3 with a couple of singles as well as picking up an RBI with knocks to center and right field.

Cardinal vs. Gray Highlights

5/6/2018

Drew Wyers (2022 MIF, Columbus, NJ) showed well again defensively up the middle for the Grey team at shortstop with a diving catch behind the mound as well as with a strong arm across the diamond.

Rocko Brzezniak (2022 1B, Matawan, NJ) found the barrel again and picked up a hard, well-struck double in his first at-bat of the game as he went with an outer half pitch into the opposite field gap, showing plenty of strength and bat speed.

Liam Bowes (2022 C, Shoreham, NY) picked up a single in his first at-bat from the right side before quickly swiping second base. He also made a nice play coming out from behind the plate in which he picked up a chopper and made an accurate throw to nail the runner at first base.

Owen Swanson (2022 RHP, Santa Clara, CA) continued to have a nice showcase after impressing on the mound yesterday, this time doubling down the right field line with a shorter stroke to plate a run.

Like Swanson, shortstop Nazier Mule (2022 SS, Paterson, NJ) put together a nice performance on the mound last night and did well today with the bat. In both of his at-bats Mule utilizes a linear path and twice found the barrel picking up a couple of line drive singles.

Gold vs. Black Highlights

5/6/2018

Danny Melendez (2021 SS, Victor, NY): Melendez showed off lots of versatility in this game, throwing two shutout innings with three strikeouts, making a diving catch in center field, and also showing solid ability with the bat, singling firmly up the middle.

Ty Federici (2022 LHP, Dallas, PA): Federici has enjoyed a very nice weekend overall, including showing a big time arm on the mound on Saturday. Today, he showed very solid feel for the barrel with strength, driving the ball up the middle as well as stealing a couple bases, later collecting a second hit for a big RBI later in game.

Maika Niu (2022 SS, Mechanicsburg, PA): Niu collected one of the few pieces of loud contact in this game, doubling to the pull field and showing good speed around the bases.

Teague Hoover (2022 SS, Selinsgrove, PA): Hoover showed really nice defensive actions in the middle infield, moving nicely to both sides, fielding cleanly, and showing a quick, accurate release across the diamond. He also pitched an inning and did a good job throwing strikes.

Drew Charney (2023 C, Minnetonka, MN): Charney showed off a quick, compact stroke at the plate and does a good job handling the bat, staying committed to the middle of the field while finding the barrel as well as showing off nice speed on the bases.

Ryan Kennedy (2022 3B, Manassas, VA): Kennedy made one of the best plays we've seen at Perfect Game showcases, getting to the railing of the 3B dugout, reaching way over into the dugout, making the catch, and falling over the railing into the dugout simultaneously. It was a tremendous display of concentration and awareness. He later added an infield hit that he firmly struck up the middle.

Trystan Crawford (2022 3B, Bloomsburg, PA): Crawford essentially scored a run all by himself in this game, finding the barrel loudly on a single up the middle, stealing 2nd and 3rd while showing off good speed, and then coming home to score on an error. He also pitched, worked up to 82 mph and did a good job throwing strikes.

Grey vs. Navy Highlights

5/5/2018

Joshua Baez (2021 OF, Dorchester, MA), a strongly built outfielder from Massachusetts, turned on a ball in his first at bat for a hard, well struck single into left field before swiping second base within a couple of pitches.

Owen Swanson (2022 RHP, Santa Clara, CA) made the trip from the West Coast and made his presence felt as he showed a quick arm and topped out at 81 mph with his fastball.  The pitch offered plenty of life with sinking action down in the zone and also showed the ability to throw both his curveball and changeup for strikes. He also smacked a double down the left field line in his second at-bat before scoring the first run of the game.

Nazier Mule (2022 SS, Paterson, NJ) showed one of the better fastballs of the day as he came out and ran his heater up to 85 mph early while showing a loose and whippy arm action through the back. He also showed a nice feel for his slider up to 71 mph and turned over a changeup.

Bo Goergen (2022 1B, New York, NY)  found the barrel from the left side of plate a couple of times, picking up a knock in his first at bat. With a full swing path, he found the barrel and shot a line drive single into the opposite field.

Jack Quinlan (2022 C, Sayville, NY) had a multi-hit day at the plate for the Grey team as he singled in his second at-bat and did so again in his third trip, showing a pitch into the opposite field while showing a shorter stroke.

Jaylen Hernandez (2022 3B, Brooklyn, NY) showed some tools throughout the game, first singling to his pull side with a line drive single. He’s strongly built then put his arm strength on display as he set his feet for a deep throw before showing solid carry across the diamond.

Jake Contois (2021 OF, Latham, NY) made his last at-bat of the night a loud one as he turned on a fastball in the tenth inning, sending a high and deep shot into left field for a triple before helping plate another run for his team.

Antonio DiGrigoli (2022 C, Brooklyn, NY) picked up a line drive  in his final at bat and quickly stole both second and third base while also showing nice defensive actions behind the plate, including on play where he threw out a runner at second with an accurate throw down.

Columbia Blue vs. Gold Highlights

5/6/2018

Jake Lanzer (2022 LHP, Newburgh, NY) did a nice job on the mound during his three inning look, punching out six and did a nice job of filling the zone with three pitches. He topped out at 74 mph with his fastball from the left side and showed nice depth on his 1-7 shaped curveball.

Joey Tuttoilmondo (2022 RHP, Monmouth Junction, NJ) showed a loose armof his own as he ran his fastball up to 81 mph early and showed nice running life with sink when down in the zone. He showed comfort working to his glove side and mixed in both a curveball and changeup.

Michael Lombardi (2022 SS, Pound Ridge, NY) made one of the top defensive plays of the game early on at third base, ranging down the line for a sliding over the shoulder catch. He also picked up a single to center field in his final at-bat of the game.

Will McCausland (2022 RHP, Harleysville, PA) pounded the zone with a full mix for three innings, showing nice life on his fastball up to 75 mph. He showed a  nice present feel for his curveball with tight rotation and sharp, late life through the zone while also flashing a changeup.

Cam McGugan (2022 C, Groton, CT) picked up the first extra base hit of the game and did so early, turning on a pitch  for a double down the line past the outstretched glove of the third baseman.

Ty Sallie (2021 SS, Mount Tabor, NJ) proved to be an offensive sparkplug, reaching base in each of his first two trips, the second of which came on a line drive up the middle. Upon reaching first, Sallie promptly stole second and third before coming around to score the first run of the game for Gold.

Shane Turpin (2021 OF, Philadelphia, PA) pitched two quick innings for the Columbia Blue team, striking out five while mixing both his fastball and breaking ball for strikes. He ran his fastball up to 80 mph and showed solid running life to his arm side along with a late breaking slider that showed tight rotation.

Trystan Crawford (2022 3B, Bloomsburg, PA) impressed in closing the game out for Gold, punching out two of his three batters faced while running his fastball up to 81 mph with lots of natural cut. He also flashed a nice changeup with fading life at 74 mph to end the contest.
