9-Columbia Blue vs. 10- Gold Game Highlights

8/13/2023

Logan Mull (2027, San Jose, CA) pitched three shutout innings for Columbia Blue. Mull ran his fastball up to 80 with an easy operation. He showed standout feel for his breaking ball that he used at a high rate and generated a lot of swing/miss. Mull also had a pullside barrel at the plate.

Corey Cole (2027, Jurupa Valley, CA) went two innings where he showed intriguing stuff on the mound. He showed a quick arm that ran his fastball up to 80. Showed spotty command but there is upside on the mound. Cole also added two hits at the plate.

Corbin Culver (2027, Fresno, CA) threw a quick shutout inning on the mound where he showed a loose arm that ran his fastball up into the upper 70s, topping 78. Culver also was one of the better performing bats of the showcase and he showed that on Sunday with two loud pull side barrels where he exhibited standout bat speed.

Cael Rivera (2027, Ridgecrest, CA) was solid for two shutout innings where he struck out five. Rivera showed solid control of an upper 70s fastball to the glove side that got produced several taken strikes. Also flashed a developing mid 60s breaker.

Jonathan Thornton (2027, Corona, CA ) got the game started with a double where he crushed a hanging breaker down the left field line. Thornton also looked good behind the plate and showed some standout catch/throw ability with a couple caught stealings.

Benjamin Smith (2027, Suisun, CA) was another catcher who showed well this game where his pitch framing/receiving ability stood out while also collecting two hits of his own.

Ethan Williams (2027, Vacaville, CA) collected two opposite field doubles at the plate. Williams has loose hands that throw a quick barrel. He works the barrel on a flat path with good depth.

Lukas Franco (2027, Granite Bay, CA) had two pull-side barrels. Franco is a physical left-handed bat that can really whip the barrel through with some advanced bat speed. Early signs show him to be an impact middle of the order bat.

William Barden (2027, El Cajon, CA) was the only player to collect two doubles. His first was hard line drive he hit through the shortstop and into the left-center gap. His second was a bloop double into right that got by a diving right fielder.

Asa Swanson (2027, Scotts Valley, CA) had a nice two-strike swing where he trusted his hands and poked and RBI single into right.

11-Green vs. 12-Maroon Game Highlights

8/13/2023

Ruben Servin (’27, Paso Robles, CA) got the start for Team Maroon and went two shutout innings. Showed a fluid and athletic delivery. His fastball was up to 76 and flashed a quality changeup.

Santino Garcia (’27, Riverside, CA) pitched two shutout innings for Team Green. Pitched to contact with his upper 60s FB. Got hitters off balance with a mid 50s breaker.

Quinton Hill (’27, El Sobrante, CA) gave up two runs in his two innings but showed the fastest arm of the group. His fastball lived in the upper 70s and touched 81. He also flashed a slurvy breaking ball. Hill stands a lean/high-waisted 6-foot-1, 170-pounds that has plenty of room to fill.

Easton Ochoa (’27, El Cajon, CA) caught two solid barrels. His first being an RBI double down the left field line on a hanging breaker. His second was a line drive single into left that scored two. Ochoa showed some intent to get out in front with a swing that maintains good extension through contact.

Kai Carson (’27, Temecula, CA) had his own RBI single for Team Green. It was on an inside fastball he kept his hands in tight on and found enough barrel to send it into center. Carson has shown well with the bat consistently throughout the two days.

Andrew Guardado (’27, Bell, CA) had a two hit day for Team Green. His best barrel was a hard line drive up the middle into center. He also sent one into right for a single later in the game. His hands throw the barrel on a direct bat path.

Jacob Tanaka (’27, Gardena, CA) had the other double this game. He punched a fastball down the right field line and showed off some speed/hustle getting into second beating the throw.

Danny De La Torre (’27, Temecula, CA) had two RBIs for Team Green and also pitched a shutout inning on the mound. One of his RBIs came off a hard barrel up the box on a two-strike swing. On the mound, he sat in the mid 70s with his fastball that showed some natural cutting action.

BP Highlights

8/12/2023

Kai Carson (2027, Temecula, CA ) put together a solid round where he stayed through the middle of the field and flashed some potential pullside power. Carson starts relaxed and open in his stance and uses a slow/early leg lift trigger for timing and rhythm. He lands consistently balanced and delivers the barrel on a clean bat path with good extension which allowed him to be out front and on-barrel consistently during his round.

Ethan Dang (2027, Chula Vista, CA) showed a very accurate barrel throughout his round. He showed a real simple RH swing where his foot gets down early with minimal hand/barrel movement. His hands then throw a more direct barrel to the baseball working it more short-to-long through the zone. He stayed through the middle of the field during his round with a majority of his line drives hit to the left-center gap.

Ruben Servin (2027, Pismo Beach, CA) showed off a pretty LH swing. He starts his load early with a bigger leg lift trigger that helps him get into his backside. As he moves forward his hands pop back creating some noticeable separation. His barrel then works on a clean path with good extension out front. He flashed some potential pull side power but it was the barrel control and smoothness of the swing that stood out.

Guillermo Macfarland (2027, Chula Vista, CA) put together one of the louder rounds of this group. Macfarland is a physical LH bat with obvious present strength especially in the hands. He was able to get the barrel through with some above avg. bat speed and impacted several baseballs out front. He showed off the out front intent in-game as well with a hard hit pullside single. Looks to a be a solid middle-of-the-order bat down the line.

Jack Clendenen’s (2027, Murietta, CA) smooth LH swing helped him put together a solid round. It’s a balanced load where he stays connected to his backside well. He uses a mild leg lift trigger and the barrel worked more direct to the baseball producing majority line drives that he sprayed around the whole field.

Rex Thompson (2027, Scotts Valley, CA) put on a loud pull side display during. Thompson uses a super simple trigger where his has a normal forward move but his hands pop back into a powerful launch position and really whip the barrel through the zone with some out front intent. Thompson blasted several deep into LF flashing some wall-ball power with some HR power coming sooner rather than later.

Jake Musicant (2027, La Mesa, CA) had one of the more professional rounds of the day staying through the middle of the field with line drives, Jake keeps it real quiet with his lower half and hands which allow for easier timing and balance. His hands throw the barrel on a real clean path through the baseball with good extension which allows him to stay through the zone longer. The barrel accuracy is already present and should be an interesting bat as he continues to add weight/strength.

Javy Ornealas (2027, Fontana, CA) There’s some moving parts to his swing but from first swing to last it was one of the better rounds of the day. Has a unique load where his lower half uses a top-tap trigger while his hands really exaggerate a barrel tip. However, the barrel is able to work back into a good hitting position and he does a good job turning it rearward creating some good depth. Ornealas showed some noticeable quickness to the hands with how he threw the barrel with flashes of some strength at impact especially to the pullside.

Corbin Culver (2027, Fresno, CA) exhibited some of the stronger/quicker hands of the day that was easily noticeable with how fast he threw the barrel through the zone. Culver keeps it simple throughout the load while working the barrel direct, connected and with consistent impact out front with accuracy. It was one of the louder rounds where he showed EASY gap power while also signaling more to come.

Jonathan Thornton (2027, Corona, CA) had one of the more put together swings of the group which produced a really solid round. Thornton loads early using a controlled leg lift trigger that gets him engaged with his backside. He loads the barrel into a good launch position which allows him to efficiently work the barrel on a clean path. Thornton also creates good tilt in his swing while rotating noticeably quick in a tight window. A majority of his results were line drives he pounded into the LC gap.

Lukas Franco (2027, Granite Bay, CA) is another real physical LH bat. The bat speed easily stood out as the strength to his hands allowed him to whip the barrel through with ease. Franco showed a middle approach the majority of his round but also got out in front of a couple flashing some pull side wall-ball juice. It's an easy middle-of-the-order power profile to project on.

Nasir Akil (2027, Los Angeles, CA). There was a lot to like from Nasir’s round. Nasir creates some natural rhythm with his toe tap trigger which gets him consistently landed on time and in a good position to launch from. His barrel works on a slightly uphill bat path flashing some bat speed where he impacted several deep into both gaps. He is already flashing some strength and with his wiry-athletic frame, there’s some intriguing potential in the bat.

11-Green vs. 12-Maroon Game Highlights

8/12/2023

Max Smaldino (2027, Ladera Ranch, CA) threw three shutout innings for Team Green. There’s some slight deception to the delivery where his loose arm works to a lower 3/4 slot. His fastball got up to 81 early, setting in the upper 70s showing some natural arm side run that produced whiffs and weak contact. He also mixed in a mid 60s breaker he landed for strikes and even buckled some hitters.

Ethan Dang (2027, Chula Vista, CA) showed advanced feel for his three-pitch mix during his three shutout inning outing. He pounded the zone with his mid-upper 70s fastball that topped 78. His slider flashed some sharp depth but his changeup showed intriguing upside where he killed spin down to 1100 rpms on it allowing him to kill vertical break along with adding some present fade.

Ajay Sahi (2027, San Ramon, CA) was solid for two shutout innings. He has a projectable lean/high-waisted build with a repeatable delivery. His fastball sat in the low-mid 70s but it showed some late natural cutting action to it which fooled hitters and allowed him to get off barrels. He also mixed in a developing breaking ball in the low 60s.

Christopher Glover (2027, Paso Robles, CA) was the only hitter to collect two hits this game. His first was on a low fastball he stayed through well to drive it up the middle. His second was on a hanging breaking ball he sat back on and drove into left on a line. Glover showed loose hands that throw an on-plane barrel through the zone.

Quinton Hill (2027, El Sobrante, CA) had the loudest hit this game with a double into the right center gap. It was an impressive swing where he recognized spin, sat back on it and allowed his quick/direct hands to drive it.

Calin Williams (2027, Buena Park, CA) collected both RBIs for Team Green. The first was a team at bat where he punched a ground ball to the right side allowing a runner from third to score. The second was a decent barrel fly out into right where a runner from third tagged up and scored.

Guillermo MacFarland (2027, Chula Vista, CA) had one of the RBI hits for Team Maroon where his quick hands worked tight and turned on an inside fastball for a single to right. MacFarland is a physical left-handed bat that is showing early signs that he will hit for power sooner rather than later.

Ruben Servin (2027, Pismo Beach, CA) had a solid opposite field barrel during this game today. He let an outside fastball get deep and his quick hands threw the barrel with good depth allowing him to line it into the left center gap for a single where he would later score. It's a pretty left-handed swing that also showed well during BP.
