Green vs. Gray Game Highlights

2/15/2020

Luke Schlimm (2022 LHP, Cincinnati, OH): Schlimm was dominant in his outing, working 83-86 mph with his fastball, attacking hitters downhill and in the zone with his fastball and showing a very good breaking ball in the mid-upper 70's that has plenty of bite. He struck out 6 hitters in 2 innings.

Clay Patton (2022 SS, Westfield, IN): Patton had a monstrous swing early on in this one, getting a center cut fastball and jumping all over it for a loud double to left center. He does a very good job generating bat speed and leveraging the ball into the air off of his front side, with plenty of power projection remaining on his frame.

Matthew Graveline (2022 C, Centerville, OH): Graveline showed well behind the plate during workouts and then took some very good swings in game, including a missile into the right-center gap that was tracked down by a tremendous play. He's got a lot to like about his profile in terms of athleticism and overall toolset. He's also a talented pitcher, with a very fast arm that ran his fastball up to 85 mph.

Robert Virgies (2022 1B, Taylor, MI): Virgies had one of the louder swings of this game early on, getting an elevated fastball and not missing it, hitting a monster double to dead center on a line. He's very physically strong and that strength shows up in his swing when he's on time. He added a second double later in the game that got over the left fielder's head in a hurry.

Gabe Nazelli (2021 OF, Farmington Hills, MI): Nazelli showed well all day through the various events of the showcase, and stood out in this game on the mound. He worked 82-84 mph with his fastball with a quick arm and lots of physical projection, throwing a lot of strikes with good feel for spinning a breaking ball as well.

Joshua Kross (2021 C, Medina, OH): Kross has a tremendous amount of strength in his body and puts that on display offensively, with a really heavy barrel that produces loud contact. He drove a double on a line to dead center that jumped off the bat, and shows prodigious offensive upside. He also pitched and threw well, running his fastball up to 85 mph and missing bats with a sharp breaking ball.

Black vs. Columbia Blue Game Highlights

2/15/2020

Ciaran Caughey (2022 SS, Hartland, MI): Caughey had a very good two-way performance, going 3-4 at the plate with a double and several liners, then climbing on the mound and working 85-87 mph with his fastball, showing explosive arm speed and very good feel to spin a sharp, late-breaking curveball.

Nathan Brown (2021 OF, Grosse Ile, MI): Brown picked up several hits in this contest, including a loud double pull-side off the bubble. There's a good combination of athleticism and offensive upside to his profile, and he'll be interesting to follow from here on.

Luke Senften (2023 LHP, Canton, OH): Senften had a good performance with the bat in this one, picking up a couple hits including a double up the pull-side gap, showing off quality pull-side pop with projectable tools overall.

Michael Sprockett (2021 C, Liberty Township, OH): Sprockett had a loud day overall, including in this game with two missile doubles off of his lefthanded bat. He's also a very quality defender behind the plate with athleticism and very good overall tools.

Connor Truax (2020 OF, Novi, MI): Truax had a loud swing in this game, doubling loudly on a line over the right fielder's head to the back of the dome. He extends well through his swing and creates good bat speed, covering the plate well.

Steven Jones (2021 RHP, Brookville, OH): Jones pitched well in this one, racking up 4 strikeouts in his pair of innings. He ran his fastball up to 85 mph with good heavy life on it, and mixed in feel for a sharp breaking ball.

Morgan Lunceford (2021 RHP, Edmond, OK): Lunceford threw very well in his outing, allowing no hits through 2 frames with 3 strikeouts. His fastball worked 84-87 mph with a quick arm, attacking hitters on either side of the plate and showing a good slider as well.

Michael Davis (2020 C, St Charles, IL): Davis is a strong, physical player with a simple stroke who really impacted the ball well in this game, making hard contact a few times and driving a double in one of his AB's. He does a nice job of simplifying his approach with 2 strikes and still maintaining intent at the same time.

Dylan Thatcher (2022 1B, Madeira, OH): Thatcher had a really loud swing late in this game, hitting a missile of a triple pull-side that brought in a run. There's a good combination of looseness and violence to his swing that produces really loud contact when he's square.

Maroon vs. Navy Game Highlights

2/15/2020

Cameron Bryant (2021 SS, Miamisburg, OH): Bryant was excellent in this game, collecting three hits in his at-bats, finding the barrel consistently and hitting hard line drives to all fields. He's a tough out with excellent hands and barrel accuracy.

Jared Teke (2022 C, Batavia, OH): Teke picked up one of the few extra base hits from his team with a well-struck double early on, showing a good combo of bat speed and strength that plays loudly when he's on time. He also got on the mound in relief and ran his fastball up to 84 mph and punched out all 3 hitters he faced in his one inning of relief.

Brock Porter (2022 RHP, Milford, MI): Porter was outstanding on the mound, running his fastball up to 90 mph with excellent arm speed and his usual very good changeup, and showcased big improvements since last summer in his curveball and overall physicality. He's also improved offensively, driving the ball in BP and in game, tripling up the LCF gap in this game.

Eric Fettinger (2020 RHP, Fishers, IN): Fettinger had a very good outing, running his fastball up to 86 mph with good running life, showing feel for both a slider and curveball as well as a changeup. He's got good projection remaining on his body, and is committed to John Wood CC to continue his career.

Tyler Mack (2022 OF, Cranberry Township, PA): Had a loud day at the plate, picking up a double and a triple in his first two AB's, showing the ability to leverage the ball into the air with strength and jump, driving blistering liners to either side of the field.

Noah Miller (2023 C, Lasalle, MI): Miller showed well with the bat, jumping all over a fastball and driving it up the gap that got all the way to the back of the dome in a hurry on a line. He's got solid overall athleticism and defensive chops.

JD Garman (2021 C, Davison, MI): Garman has a lot of strength from both sides of the plate, and showed that off in this setting. He picked up a pair of extra base hits in this one, consistently creating leverage off of his front side and driving the ball with strength and carry.

Grant Reising (2021 LHP, Canton, MI): Reising had a strong performance on the mound, running his fastball up to 85 mph from the left side with steep plane, and mixing in a deep, big-breaking curveball around 70 mph with the makings of a potential hammer as he continues throwing it harder. He struck out 5 in 2 innings.

Jacob Morrison (2022 RHP, Flushing, MI): Morrison has impressive size and physicality as just a sophomore at 6-6/230, and he was very good in this event. His fastball worked 80-83 mph with good running life, pounding the zone with it, and mixing in both a solid curveball and changeup all while maintaining the zone.

Batting Practice Highlights

2/15/2020

Michael Sprockett (2021 C, Liberty Township, OH) has a present strong 5-10/195 pound build and an aggressive pull oriented swing that produces lots of raw bat speed.  The ball is very loud coming off the barrel when he squared it up.

Max Johnson (2021 SS, Mason, OH) is a projectable switch-hitter with a smooth swing from both sides of the plate and developing bat speed.  The Indiana commit will keep improving as he gets stronger.

Dylan Thatcher (2022 1B, Madeira, OH) was timed up from the first pitch and pulled some hard line drives from the left side of the plate.  His swing is short and direct with good strength behind it, especially for a sophomore.

Caden Duryea (2022 OF, White Lake, MI) hits from a narrow stance with a big lower half move into contact that helps him generate plenty of bat speed.  As a 6-3/180 left handed hitter with tons of room to get stronger, there's lots of physical projection here.

Ty Uchman (2023 LHP, Grand Rapids, MI) is a young primary pitcher but the left handed hitter has a chance as a two-way player, especially as his 6-1/160 frame fills out.  He has a well timed and loose swing with present bat speed.

Cole Lindow (2022 OF, Frankenmuth, MI) has a short and quick swing from the left side and feasted on balls on the inside half of the plate.  He has good strength for a sophomore and the ball came off the barrel hard.

Joshua Kross (2021 C, Medina, OH) is one of the strongest players at the showcase, with a well proportioned 6-2/210 build.  He's a switch-hitter who uses his strength well to generate bat speed and power from both sides of the plate and especially the left side.

Connor Ostrander (2022 SS, Granger, IN) is a left handed middle infielder with hitter's twitchy hands that generate bat speed without creating length.  He peppered line drives from gap to gap with good carry.

Dougie Zang (2021 2B, Cincinnati, OH) had one of the simpler and repeatable approaches we saw Saturday, with very good barrel control and ability to square the ball up.  He looks like a high average hitter with some developing strength in his swing.

Brock Porter (2022 RHP, Milford, MI) is a primary pitcher but also a high level athlete with present strength.  He takes a full healthy swing and gets lots of carry and lift to the middle of the field.

Braden Gebhardt (2022 LHP, Warren, OH) might have been the best of the many strong hitting pitchers.  The strong 6-2/200 sophomore really drove the ball hard when he was able to clear his hips and turn the barrel on balls out front.

Gavin Moczydlowsky (2023 RHP, New Boston, MI) shows very good raw bat speed for a freshman and gets big jump off the barrel.  He'll have to simplify his right handed approach to make consistent game contact but the bat speed was there.

Dominick Agate (2023 3B, New Lenox, IL) is another promising freshman with good present strength and plenty more to come on his 6-0/170 build.  He has solid present bat speed with a line drive swing plane.
