Soph. & Junior National Arrive in Georgia

This weekend will kick off the 2026 PG Junior National Showcase with the Sophomore National Showcase following close behind. Both in Marietta, Georgia, these showcases will feature lots of top-50 talent along with the ever-present potential for lesser-known players to turn heads. 

For the Junior National Showcase, starting on June 6, 7 of the top 10-ranked players will attend - No. 2 Colin Anderson, No. 3 Cullen Scott, No. 4 Carter Shouse, No. 6 Aiden Kearney, No. 8 Keelan Zumwalt, No. 8 Landon Bonner and No. 9 Theo Swafford. 



Anderson won’t have to travel far to attend, coming from Acworth, Georgia. At last year’s Sophomore National Showcase, he impressed scouts with his calm approach and explosive bat speed.

Scott, a right-handed pitcher and third baseman from Melissa, Texas, has shown his arm strength getting up in the 90-mph zone. He’s also a talented hitter with visible strength in his swing. 

Shouse, who, years ago wasn’t even on scouts’ radars until he made a name for himself at a Prospect Gateway Showcase in 2024, has shown a lot of talent on both sides of the ball. He’s a reliable hitter but also a pitcher with a 4-pitch mix and a fastball that gets up to 93 mph. 

Kearney has been a name to watch for a while - really showing his talent in the summer of 2024. In 2025, scouts took notice of his “easy, over-the-fence power” and his intelligence when it came to taking good angles to the ball. The Florida native also has remarkable arm strength and can consistently reach the high-80s on the mound with good location. 

Zumwalt represents Kansas City well, impressing scouts with his consistent ability to perform and his “huge physical projection.” At the Sophomore National last year, the left-handed hitter showed good rhythm in his swing, strong defense from the outfield and athleticism on the mound. 

Bonner had a great jump last year and has been showing positive growth. Scouts have fun watching him play - as he has “very consistent timing and swing path” and “makes plays cleanly and quickly.” It’ll be interesting to see the development his arm strength has made. 

Scouts have liked what they’ve seen from Swafford over the past calendar year. Coming from California, the left-handed, two-way talent had an “outstanding 2025 Beast of the East and 16U WWBA.”

Greg Sabers, vice president of scouting and showcases for Perfect Game said he looks forward to both the expected and the unexpected for this year’s Junior National.

“It’s always exciting when you get the best players in a class all on one field at a PG National Showcase,” Sabers said. “We are excited to see what the 2028 class has to offer at the Junior National this year.

It’s a chance for players to make a statement to kick off the summer and it’s before the college recruiting window opens up August 1.

[I] can’t wait to see those who already have established themselves at the top of the class and maybe more excited for who surprises us and shows they belong with the best players in the class as well.”

For the Sophomore National Showcase, beginning June 10, 7 of the top-15 ranked players will be in attendance for their class - including the No. 1-ranked Macgraw Vanwormer. He’ll be joined alongside No. 3 Easton O’Quinn, No. 10 Braiden Miller, No. 11 Peyton Lopez, No. 12 Caleb Polk, No. 13 Noah Jarolimek and No. 14 Dylan Mercado. 

VanWormer, from Prescott, Arizona, has shown a lot of versatility on defense with a big offensive upside. He had a huge 2025 - showing off his speed with a 6.68 60-yard dash, 91 mph off the mound and a .497 batting average.

O’Quinn is slated to have a big summer after a strong school season playing on his varsity team. He’s been a consistent talent over the years - being the 2024 13U player of the year, home run derby winner in that year and being named to play in the 14U Select Festival in 2025 as one of his class’s top players. 

Speaking of consistency, Miller is a 4-time Select Festival athlete. He’s got a very strong, right-handed bat with two-way potential as his arm got up to 89 mph at last year’s 14U National Showcase. 

Lopez is known for his smooth defense and his ability to drive to both gaps with control. In 2025, he ran a 6.79 60-yard dash and had a .435 batting average.

From Dallas, Texas, Polk is a right-handed pitcher who had a breakout performance at last year’s Beast of the East. Standing at 6’3, he was already up to 92 mph last year - and scouts think he’s not even close to reaching his full velo potential. He threw 65% strikes in 2025.

Jarolimek has shown steady improvement that PG’s scouts have noticed as he’s proven himself to be a great all-around player in the past year. He had a .484 batting average in 2025 and also showed his arm strength with 86 mph off the mound. 

Scouts have said that Mercado has “eye-popping numbers on both sides.” From Houston, Texas, the 3-time Select Fest athlete and 2024 13U 2-Way Player of the Year has shown a “balanced stroke with lots of whip and leverage.”

Todd Coffey, national scouting coordinator for Perfect Game, said this event will be a huge opportunity for players to show what they’re made of. 

“We have a lot of college scouts, pro scouts and agents that are here for Junior National,” Coffey explained. “Right after that event, we have Sophomore National and they (college scouts, pro scouts, agents) just stay and watch the kids during Sophomore National for kids to circle and keep an eye on.

This is really, for most of these kids, the first taste of competing against like-minded kids. They’ve competed in 14U National which is 350 kids, 13U National, which is about 300 kids. This one here, we have less than 200 kids, so the class is a lot tougher to get into.”

With the Sophomore National event being invite-only, Coffey mentioned that many players earned their invite by making a name for themselves at various Sunshine Showcases.

“The sheer amount of talent that has to be there to get here is huge...This is when you see a lot of the growth - and where these kids have actually put in the weight room time and the gym time. You start seeing that transition from a young athlete to a high school athlete.

Everyone is always watching them. These college scouts can’t talk to them, but they’re there watching and that’s the biggest thing [the players] have got to understand. They watch how [the players] carry themselves on and off the field.”

After months of coverage, evaluations, and discussions, the 2026 MLB Draft is upon us. With that, we present our final Top 500 Draft Board.  The final update features several notable movers, including a handful of late risers who made one final push up the board. While there was movement throughout the board, the top remains unchanged. UCLA shortstop Roch Cholowsky and Texas prep shortstop Grady Emerson lead the way again, as they have for much of the cycle. The 21st annual 14U BCS National Championship returns to Fort Myers, Florida this Thursday through Monday, bringing many of the nation’s top teams to compete for one of the summer’s premier titles. Seven nationally ranked teams, featuring some of the top prospects in the class of 2030, will take the field looking to prove why they rank among the country’s elite. Headlining the field is No. 25-ranked outfielder James Watson of Canton, Georgia. The No. 9 outfielder in the nation has been one of the most productive hitters in the field this season, posting a 1.227 OPS while batting .394 with eight home runs, 69 RBI and 32 stolen bases over 84 games. Watson has also excelled on the mound, recording a 3.50 ERA with 65 strikeouts in 44 innings while holding opposing hitters to a .181 batting average.
