Central Connecticut State: The Blue Devils are coming off their 9th conference title under Head Coach Charlie Hickey after defeating Long Island University 6-5 in a dramatic 12-inning victory in the conference tournament championship game. Coach Hickey will feature a revamped roster heading into the 2026 season with the graduation and transfer portal of some key players from last year’s championship club. Although the Blue Devils are losing the conference Player of the Year, the 1st Team All-NEC third baseman and 1st Team relief pitcher, along with the entire starting pitching staff, the 2026 club will once again be a force at the top of the conference. Senior right-hander Nick Murphy will slide into the No. 1 starter role after winning four games in a relief role a year ago, while Richie Kerstetter will take over the closer role after appearing in 14 games as a sophomore with a 3.25 ERA and nearly a strikeout per inning. Outfielders Antonio Ducatelli and Gianno Merlonghi will anchor the lineup and will be joined by Merrimack transfer Frankie Ferrentino to provide production at the top of the order. Ferrentino, a catcher and designated hitter, is no secret to the NEC after putting up a .304-10-35 stat line as a freshman before Merrimack transitioned to the MAAC for the 2025 season. The 2026 squad will be young regarding experience in the conference, but with Hickey and his 20 conference tournament appearances in 26 years at the helm, the NEC title goes through New Britain, Connecticut.

Coppin State: After a couple of down years, the Eagles may have changed the tides heading into the 2026 season with the deepest staff they have had in years. Head Coach Sherman Reed brings in brings in a wealth of talent led by Jake Cumming (Nevada) and Dillon Kirksey (Centralia College) to lead the weekend rotation. Returning left-hander Luke Corcoran will step into a more dominant starting role this year while freshman Aaden Lopez rounds out the rotation. Cumming boasts a big arm with his fastball up to 97 mph during the West Coast Summer Collegiate League and will battle for one of the top pitchers in the conference. All-NEC closer Justin Ritz returns after turning down offers to turn pro and will resume his closer duties for the Eagles. Senior Pedro Agosto will lead off with junior catcher Nelson Grajales-Vazquez hitting third. Power-hitting first baseman Kenan Harvey will hit cleanup with athletic shortstop Marcus Sanders and his 6.5 speed adding length to the lineup. Third baseman Pranav Sundar had a breakout Fall and is ready to carry it through the season. Right-handed pitcher Jackson Montgomery returns to the bullpen after an unexpected health scare and looks to be back to form heading into the season. The Eagles have a wealth of pitching depth and under the guidance of pitching coach Wayne Franklin, the roster is built to make a conference tournament run.

Delaware State: The Hornets head into the season with optimism under 2nd year Head Coach Pedro Swann after a down year on the pitching and defense side of the ball. The Hornets finished the year at the bottom of the conference rankings in both categories but saw improved results as the season progressed. There is reason for optimism as the young pitching staff gained valuable experience and the offense returns some key pieces who have shown success at the plate in previous years. Team-leader in homeruns Alec Rodriguez returns as well as fellow outfielder Hassan Turner who led the team in batting average during conference play as a freshman. Junior third baseman Jaryn Sample looks for a bounce back year after hitting .339 with 28 runs batted in as a freshman. Right-hander Michael Lane made seven starts as a sophomore and posted a 2.52 ERA. Lane along with Nathan Vidmar (12 starts) and Eddie Del Valle (12 starts) give Coach Swann options at the top of the rotation. Sophomores Jeremy Vest, Ethan Johnson, and Justin Batts could fill multiple roles out of the pen and see bulk innings throughout the season.

Fairleigh Dickinson University: The Knights narrowly missed out on a conference tournament bid and brought in some power bats to a lineup that slightly regressed for the first time under 4th year Head Coach Manny Roman. Roman and his staff added grad transfers Garryn Plummer (Tabor) and Jeremy Delamoto (Wagner), to help bolster the lineup and provide veteran leadership. Plummer, a solid defensive catcher, will slide into the 3-hole in the lineup with Delamoto providing offensive upside at fist base/designated hitter. Transfer second baseman Andres Castro (Bellarmine) will add length to the lineup and should work well up the middle with returning All-Conference shortstop Johnathon Gomez who led the team in hitting as a true freshman. The entire outfield returns in sophomores Hunter Ray and Travis Stroh along with junior Jimmy Mantuano who finished third on the team with six homeruns. Ray led the team in hitting during conference play with a .425-7-19 stat line and Stroh finished third in the conference with 27 stolen bases. On the pitching side, Cooper Montelbano will anchor the staff after leading the club with 5 wins in 12 starts as a redshirt-freshman. Two-way athlete Jeremy Cheeseman will see at-bats at designated hitter and showcase some of the best stuff on the staff as the No. 2 starter. Freshman Drew Cisney and sophomore Joe Barbarino round out the staff with redshirt-senior Logan Magdits and freshman left-hander Chris Messina also seeing action. Junior Derek Bartek will close out games with his four-pitch mix and smooth athletic delivery. The Knights were overmatched in the early stages of last year while fielding a young roster but hit their stride once conference play began. With the young core making strides and the addition of some veteran presence the Knights and Head Coach Roman are primed to make a run at the conference tournament and NCAA automatic bid.

Le Moyne College: After narrowly missing out on the conference tournament with a 17-13 record, the Dolphins are ready to take the next step and contend for a conference title after rejoining the Division 1 ranks in 2024. Head Coach Scott Cassidy returns a talented lineup led by 2nd Team All-NEC catcher Cooper Romich and infielder Tim Denet who posted a .321-5-26 slash line in conference play as a freshman. Outfielders Paulie Goodness and Jack Cannon also return after combining for 52 stolen bases and 64 runs scored. On the pitching side, redshirt-junior AJ Petraitis returns after logging 74 innings over 12 starts and 14 appearances. The starting staff will have a new look as the Dolphins will feature a young staff with the opportunity for innings. Seniors Luke Connors and Colin Skermont return to provide veteran leadership after appearing in 27 games with three starts between them. The Dolphins were close a year ago and if young staff can provide quality innings the Dolphins could make their 1st conference tournament appearance.

Long Island University: The 2025 club won the regular season title with a 24-6 record and took Central Connecticut State to the final game before losing 6-5 in 12 innings for the conference championship. The Sharks were trying to repeat after winning the conference championship in 2024 and appeared in the Chapel Hill Regional at the University of North Carolina. Head Coach Dan Pirillo has taken the Sharks to three NCAA Regionals and could be in contention for a 4th conference title. Senior Ryan Rivera will once again lead the offense after a .357-3-51 slash line and being named 1st Team All-NEC and 1st Team NEC All-Tournament. Noah Sorensen returns and provides stability up the middle with Rivera. Mason Breton brings back his two-way abilities and versatility on defense. Breton appeared in 10 games on the bump with three starts and clubbed four home runs as a freshman. The Sharks could have the best returning staff in the conference even after losing NEC Pitcher of the Year Garrett Yawn. Justin DeCastro and Nicholas Finnarelli each won seven games in conference a year ago and will return to the weekend rotation. The Sharks will contend for the conference title with the wealth of returning talent and incoming class.

Maryland-Eastern Shore: After a year in which the Hawks did not win a game, the Hawks will look to build on the six conference wins in 2025. Head Coach Danny Acosta brings back a veteran lineup with shortstop Ansel Carson and outfielder Julian Jimenez returning after tying for the team-lead in homeruns a year ago. Senior catcher Jonathan Gonzalez Perez also returns with a team-leading .331 batting average along with first baseman Diego Aponte whose 14 doubles led the team. Junior Bronson Taylor is another bat to keep an eye on as he looks to rebound after a slightly down year after putting up a .355-5-24 slash line as a freshman. On the pitching side, Coach Acosta implored a young staff in 2025 with 20 starts made by freshman. Sophomore right-handers Carter Champey and Robert Guerrero combined for 11 of them. With a veteran lineup and some experience on the pitching side, the Hawks are lined up to make strides in the conference rankings.

Mercyhurst: The Lakers will look to build on the 15 wins during conference play after joining the Northeast Conference at the end of the 2024 season. Head Coach Jimmy Latona will feature a revamped pitching staff after the graduation of nearly the entire weekend rotation. The bulk of the innings will come from pitchers new to the program with sophomore Nick Hamilton (5 starts) and junior Andrew Malec (2 Starts) returning with starter experience. Junior right-hander Nolan Kirsh and sophomore left-hander Anthony Krause bring experience with 30 appearances out of the pen and could fill multiple roles throughout the year. On the offensive side, power-hitting first baseman Jayden Walker returns after finishing with 12 homeruns and 40 runs batted in. Walker hit his stride during conference play with a .383-12-32 slash line on a team that finished near the bottom of the conference batting rankings. Sophomore Ethan Adams and junior Chandler Powell return after driving in 32 runs combined with 7 homeruns. The Lakers will feature a young roster that is hungry to leave its mark on the Division 1 ranks.

New Haven: The Chargers join the Northeast Conference after competing for many years in the Northeast-10 Conference. Head Coach Chris Celano brings a talented group with him as the Chargers transition to the Division I ranks. Senior catcher Casey Cerruto returns after leading the team in hitting and being named to the NE-10 All-Conference 2nd Team. Third baseman Joseph Frazzetta and first baseman Matt McIntire are coming off good seasons and will be looked upon to provide offensive production. McIntire was a 2nd Team NE-10 All-Conference selection in 2024 as a sophomore, after putting up a .337-13-44 slash line and will be a key factor to the lineup if he returns to that level of play. On the pitching side, the Chargers return a pair of weekend starters in right-hander Michael Gatti and left-hander Vincent Fusco. Gatti was named 1st Team NE-10 All-Conference after posting a 2.63 ERA over five starts while Fusco logged a team-high 33 and 1/3 innings over six starts during conference play. Senior right-hander Randy Ramnarace also returns after striking out 45 batters over 32 and 1/3 innings of relief and a 2nd Team NE-10 All-Conference selection. The Chargers will get a good test right out the gates when they open on the road at Missouri and then at TCU to kick off the season.

Norfolk State: The Spartans will look to rebound after a tumultuous end to the 2025 season and will do so under the new leadership of Head Coach Merrill “M.L.” Morgan. Coach Morgan brings a wealth of knowledge after stops at VCU and the Tampa Bay Rays (Area Scout Supervisor) and has some talented pieces offensively with the return of 1st Team All-NEC selection Justin Journette leading the charge. The senior outfielder homered 15 times each of the last two seasons and with exit velocities north of 115+ mph will slot into the cleanup spot in the lineup. Outfielder Jalan Jones also returns after a .320-8-33 season in his sophomore campaign. The duo offers big upside for the Spartans and if they can improve their swing decisions the pair should garner major league scouting interest. A big pickup for Coach Morgan is Virginia State transfer Thomas Ealey who garners attention as a two-way player with impact on both sides of the ball. Switch-hitting shortstop Jaydan Israel will anchor the defense up the middle after slashing .400 in 25 games a year ago. First year pitching coach Brett Mays will look to flip the script on a staff that finished at the bottom of the conference rankings. Mays inherits a veteran staff with seniors Walker Fuller and McGregor Yarbrough leading the weekend rotation. Redshirt-Junior Donovan Whitfield transitions into a starter role after appearing in 13 games while junior Parker Hampton rounds out the rotation. Fayetteville Tech CC transfer Josiah Harrison will step into the closer role and see at-bats as a two-way player along with Thomas Ealey and Yasseel Samboy seeing bulk innings out of the pen. With some new roles on the pitching side and the return of experienced offensive players, the Spartans and Coach Morgan will look to start fast and erase the memory of a four-win season a year ago.

Stonehill College: In just the third year since joining the Northeast Conference from the Division II Northeast-10 Conference, the Skyhawks reached the conference tournament with an 18-12 record. They were 3rd in batting and led the conference in home runs with 80. This Skyhawks will have to replace four All-Conference selections from last year’s squad while 2nd Team All-NEC second baseman Ryan LeClair returns to lead the charge. Head Coach Sean Callahan believes he and his staff have brought in the players to pick up the offensive production lost. Look for transfers John Bureau (UCAP) and Nick Lundquist (Gaston College) to provide production in the middle of the order with shortstop Sean McGee looking to build off a junior season where he finished with 9 homeruns and 37 runs batted in. Early reports show power potential from this group with exit velocities upwards of 108 mph. Redshirt-Freshman Nate Kearney looks to add to the upside offensively with massive impact after back-to-back medical redshirt years. Pitching Coach Zack Sultar returns a veteran staff and barring any setbacks will have his full arsenal available in the early Spring. Grad-Senior Ryan Douglas and Senior Jimmy Gilleran who went 6 and 1 in conference play, are returning from shoulder issues to lead the staff. Junior Dylan McCarthy, a transfer from George Mason, was dominant in the Fall and will slot in behind Douglas and Gilleran. McCarthy has the stuff (FB 89-92 with sharp CB 2500+ RPM) to take on a much larger role in his first season with the Skyhawks. Left-hander Hunter Bell rounds out the staff after finishing with four wins after being thrown into the weekend mix as a true Freshman. The health of the staff will dictate at least early on how the Skyhawks will start off the season in non-conference play. Senior Adam Martin returns as the closer after recording six saves in his first year of Division 1 baseball. The middle-relief core also promises some upside with mid-90s right-hander Justin Tullish and transfer Dan Lang (UCAP) getting the bulk of the work. The Skyhawks enter the year in unchartered waters after a historic season for the program and a return trip to the conference tournament lies squarely in the health of its players.

Wagner College: The Seahawks head into the year with some uncertainty surrounding the pitching staff but have the talent to once again challenge for the conference title. Head Coach Craig Noto has led the Seahawks to three straight conference tournaments and looks to get over the hump after taking the reins at the end of the 2021 season. Coach Noto returns the bulk of the offense that finished second in the conference with a .313 batting average. Lukas Torres returns to lead things off after posting a .409 batting average during conference play with 41 runs batted in for the year. All-NEC second team selections Matt Sutera and Joseph Mennella should provide stability in the middle of the order after combining for 81 runs batted in. Mennella finished conference play with a .290-11-38 stat line and could garner player of the year recognition with exit velocities north of 115 mph. Another big bat returning is Designated Hitter Diego Tavarez who batted .324 with six homeruns and 39 runs batted in. Two-way shortstop Nicholas Mazzotta will add length to the lineup and assume the closer role after recording three saves in limited action a year ago. Senior Colin Trizuto will anchor the pitching staff after leading the Seahawks with 15 starts (10 in conference play). The rest of the rotation is yet to be determined with senior Sam Bonilla and freshman Chase Brandt in the mix. Last year’s club finished 3rd in conference pitching and if they get near those results this season, they will once again find themselves battling for a conference tournament title and the NCAA Regional Bid.

March 10 Perfect Game/Player of the Week:  Lorenzo Carrier, OF, Pitt  The Pitt Panthers (12-2) are off to one of the best starts in recent program history and their offense has performed as one of the best in the country.  For the season, they are averaging almost 12-runs per game and on their recent trip to the West Coast, Lorenzo Carrier went on the kind of hot streak that is hard to comprehend.  The 6-5/215 senior from Bear, DE was a one-man wrecking crew in their 4-wins last week, starting with the fact that he reached base safely in 17 of his 19 trips to the plate.  He collected 13 hits in 14 official at-bats, scoring 10 runs, with 4 walks, 2 triples, 4 home runs and he drove in an insane 19-runs.  Carrier has refined his approach, simplified his bat path and is creating massive power that has him putting up career numbers.  For the season, he is...

The 2026 college baseball season is starting to reveal its early storylines, and across the Division II and Division III landscape a few programs have already forced their way into the spotlight. From the blistering start by the Pittsburg State Gorillas baseball that rocketed them to the top of the rankings, to the steadily rising championship ambitions of the Taylor Trojans baseball, the national picture is beginning to take shape. In Division III, heavyweight programs like the Trinity Tigers baseball and the Wisconsin–Whitewater Warhawks baseball have already traded blows in one of the season’s first statement series, while emerging challengers such as the Keene State Owls baseball are looking to turn early momentum into a breakout year. Another week down as we get into conference play in parts of the nation. This week is led by Chipola at No. 1 with an impressive 24-1 record. Walters State drops to No. 2 at 16-3 and Florida SouthWestern State College (17-5) follows closely behind. Powerhouse programs  McLennan Community College (11-2) and Johnson County Community College (18-2) round out the top five, while one-loss teams Fresno City, Ohlone, and Cloud County are quickly climbing into the national conversation. As we get rolling deeper into the spring here in the southern states, other states are only a few weeks away from their seasons beginning and some are even starting the day this will be posted. We’ve concluded the first major event on the high school schedule, the PG High School Showdown, and it was an epic weekend in Hoover. The event was littered with talent and these rankings reflect just that. St. John Bosco (CA) holds onto the first spot in this update and are being pushed by an IMG Academy (FL) team that’s 8-0 after winning the High School Showdown as well as beating two preseason top-10 teams in the first few weeks of the season. Orange Lutheran (CA) holds onto the No. 3 spot after a 1-0 start to the year and just a few weeks away from NHSI. March 3 Perfect Game/Player of the Week:  Cider Canon, OF, Duke  The Duke Blue Devils (11-3) went through massive changes in the offseason, with a new coaching staff and heavy roster turnover like is often seen in the college game today.  That hasn’t held them back as they have kind of flown under the radar on their way to a tie for the most wins in the nation.  They won 4 out 5 games last week and Cider Canon was the driving force behind their offensive onslaught.  The 5-11/180 outfielder from San Marino, CA put together an incredible week collecting 9 hits in 14 at-bats, good for a .643 BA, scoring 7 runs, with 3 walks, 4 home runs and driving in a total of 10 runs.  After a successful couple years at Davidson College, Cider made the trip north to Durham and has fit right into the Blue Devil’s high-octane offense.  For the season, he is...
