Texas All Region Team & Top Tools

The Texas Region features eight Perfect Game All-Americans, headed up by the top ranked prospect in the class in shortstop Grady Emerson.  There is significant power and middle of the infield athleticism in the state at present extending down into the younger classes but an unusual lack of athletic outfielders.  As usual, Texas has an ample supply of power arms, helped by the transfer from Oklahoma of 100 mph arm Savion Sims.

An impressive nine schools are represented in the 2026 Perfect Game pre-season high school top 50 rankings, led by 7th ranked Grapevine HS.  Other Texas schools in the rankings include a number of familiar schools to the rankings, including Memorial HS (14th), Lake Travis HS (20th), Kingwood HS (22nd), Aledo HS (25th), Atascocita (27th), Calallen (30th), Pleasant Grove (32nd) and Prestonwood Christian Academy (40th).  As is always the case, there are sure to be other Texas schools moving in and out of the rankings as the spring progresses.

C  --  Jorvorskie Lane Jr.  (Sr., O.D. Wyatt HS, Texas)

Lane is a true utility player who has the athleticism and experience to play all over the field well.  Given that his best tool is his bat, his potential highest ceiling as a player is if he remains behind the plate and develops defensively there.  He’s posted absurd numbers at O.D. Wyatt HS, hitting .588 with 57 RBI and 61 stolen bases as a junior after hitting .591 with 8 home runs and 66 steals as a sophomore.

1B --  Easton Autrey (Sr., Corsicana HS, Texas)

A Perfect Game All-American, Autrey is a primary third baseman at present but given his 6-4/233 build it’s likely that he ends up at first base and that’s where he fits best on the All-Region team.  Autrey hit .469-5-39 as a junior at Corsicana HS after hitting .403-4-32 as a sophomore.  He also hit a 544-foot home run at a power showcase this last summer to put a star on what his big tool is.

MIF -- Connor Comeau (Sr., Anderson HS, Texas)

Comeau is one of the youngest premium prospects in the 2026 class and still has a ton of projection in his 6-4/185 build.  His standout tool is his left-handed bat and his easy power that belies his slender young build.

MIF --  Grady Emerson (Sr., Argyle HS, Texas)

Emerson has been the top ranked prospect in the 2026 class for the past two years and enters this spring in position to be one of the first picks in the 2026 draft, especially if his left-handed bat continues to develop.  He’s an exceptionally polished and talented defensive middle infielder and gets extra points for his humility and maturity off the field.

3B --  CJ Sampson (Sr., Tomball HS, Texas)

Sampson is a highest-level two-way talent who might only be surpassed by his All-Region teammate, Cole Koeninger, in the national high school ranks, thus necessitating his slotting at third base on this team.  Sampson started both ways on the USA 18U National Team, including throwing a shutout in one game, and has performed similar duties for Tomball HS as well.  He went 12-2, 0.93 in 90 innings as a junior on the mound for Tomball but his best fit professionally is likely as a left-handed hitting third baseman.  Unless he ends up as the next Jack Flaherty first.

OF -- Lash Henderson (Jr., Prestonwood Christian Academy, Texas)

Henderson has always been one of the physical standouts in the 2027 class and was a three-time PG Select Festival Athlete from 2021 to 2023 and is currently the 24th ranked player in the 2027 class.  With a broad shouldered 6-4/210 build, the 17-year old Henderson has plenty more room to get stronger and add to his already plus power potential.  He’s also a 6.59 runner with a 93 mph throwing arm.

OF --  Drake Hawpe (Jr., Liberty Christian HS, Texas)

Hawpe is a similar talent at the same age to his father, 2009 MLB All-Star outfielder Brad Hawpe and is even already committed to LSU, where his father starred for three years.  The younger Hawpe hit .438-4-28 as a sophomore and is currently ranked 27th nationally in the 2027 class, with his left-handed power being his standout tool.

OF -- Graham Charboneau (Sr., Kingwood HS, Texas)

Charboneau led Kingwood to a state championship in 2025, hitting .405-9-42 and being named Hitter of the Year in the Greater Houston Area.  The 6-4/200 has an outstanding combination of bat speed and power potential combined with 6.60 speed in the sixty and plenty of physical projection remaining.

RHP Cooper Harris (Sr., Flower Mound HS, Texas)

Harris is an extremely projectable young right-hander who will 17 years old all spring and it’s easy to see him becoming a factor in the draft with a small step forward from what he’s already shown to scouts.  The Texas signee works in the 92-95 mph range with his fastball but his best pitch is a mid-80’s true slider that can bump 3,000+ rpm spin with tight and short biting life.

LHP Lucas Nawrocki (Sr., Aledo HS, Texas)

Nawrocki is better known in the Texas high school ranks as a left-handed hitting outfielder who hit .532-3-30 as a junior but his highest future ceiling is on the mound.  He’s as close a comparison as two athletes can get at the same stage to MLB left-hander A.J. Minter, another Texas native.  Nawrocki throws up to 94 mph on the mound with an outstanding slider and lots of deception in his delivery.

RHP Trey Rangel (Sr., The Colony HS, Texas)

Rangel wasn’t the biggest pitcher on the PG All-American team at 6-1/185 but he had some of the nastiest stuff with a fastball that regularly touched 96 mph with explosive life at times to go with a slider that often topped 3,000 rpm spin with big depth.  He’s very similar to Walker Buehler at the same age.  Rangel has gone 11-4, 1.10 in 89 innings the last two years at The Colony HS with 143 strikeouts.

RHP Savion Sims (Sr., Prestonwood Christian Academy, Texas)

Sims went to high school in Oklahoma as a junior but transferred to Prestonwood as a senior.  The 6-8/205 right-hander is the 24th ranked player nationally in the 2026 class and the third ranked right-handed pitcher.  Sims, who is signed with Oklahoma, went 5-0, 1.73 with 54 strikeouts in 32 innings for Edmund Santa Fe HS as a junior.

RHP Grant Sperandio (Jr., Memorial HS, Texas)

Sperandio is extra strong for his age with a 6-2/205 build and big right-handed arm strength that tops out at 94 mph from the mound and 96 mph from both the infield and outfield.  He went 11-0, 1.06 as a sophomore at Memorial HS in Houston with 91 strikeouts and only 12 walks in 66 innings.

UTL -- Cole Koeninger (Sr., Keller HS, Texas)

Koeninger was one of the fast risers in the country last summer both as a hitter and pitcher and has to be viewed as a 50/50 prospect right now.  He’s been 93-96 mph on the mound with one of the best curveballs in the 2026 class and pitched in relief for the USA 18U National Team.  As a player, he’s a strong-armed shortstop who runs a 6.49 and has hit .464 and .471 with power the last two years in PG play.

Texas Region Top Tools

Best Hitter for Average:
Jorvorskie Lane Jr.  (Sr., O.D. Wyatt HS, Texas)

No one is worried about Grady Emerson’s bat, which is part of why he could be the top pick in the draft, but Lane’s history of hitting at all levels and against all competition is almost unsurpassed in the 2026 class nationally.  He squares everything up hard and rarely has a bad at-bat.

Best Hitter for Power: Easton Autrey (Sr., Corsicana HS, Texas)

There is plenty of raw power in the Texas Region but Autrey’s juice stands out on the national stage.  That he looks the part and that the power shows up in games doesn’t hurt his case, either.

Best Runner: Spencer Browning (Sr., Pleasant Grove HS, Texas)

Browning is a big and solid athlete at 6-1/195 but his best physical tool is his speed, as he ran 6.29 in the sixty at the PG National Showcase and shows outstanding quickness and range at shortstop as well.  It’s easy to see someone with his tool package in center field as well.  The 86th ranked player in the 2026 class, Browning is signed with Arkansas.

Best Defensive Catcher: Catcher Hopkins (Sr., Tomball HS, Texas)

Yes, he’s a catcher whose name is Catcher.  And he has big physical tools, with elite level arm strength, solid size at 6-2/195 and even 6.64 speed in the sixty.  The Texas A&M signee also has the experience of catching one of the most talented pitching staffs in the state at Tomball.

Best Defensive Infielder:  Grady Emerson (Sr., Argyle HS, Texas)

There aren’t many 17-year old middle infielders that you can, with the utmost confidence, say that they will stay at shortstop deep into their careers but Emerson is one of those types of athletes.  He moves with fluid grace and balance and can make all the plays.

Best Defensive Outfielder: Luis Olmeda (Jr., Oak Ridge HS, Texas)

Olmeda is a somewhat undersized athlete at 5-11/170 but he has an outstanding athletic tool set and surprising left-handed power at the plate.  His best defensive tool is his 97 mph arm strength in addition to his aggressiveness moving to the ball with his 6.6 speed.  Don’t be surprised if Olmeda, who is exceptionally young for the 2027 class, really comes on over the next year.

Best Defensive Arm: Cole Koeninger (Sr., Keller HS, Texas)

Just as he does on the mound, Koeninger gets his arm strength from a very compact and relatively low effort arm stroke.  He throws 96 mph off the mound and threw 95 mph during infield drills at the PG National without really letting one go.  SS James Jorgensen (Sr., Jesuit College Prep, Texas) and 3B Landon Brown (Sr., Iowa Colony HS, Texas) also deserve mention in this very crowded Texas category.

Best Fastball: Savion Sims (Sr., Prestonwood Christian Academy, Texas)

Sims performance at the 2025 PG National Showcase was one for the ages, as he threw in the 97-100 mph range for two innings, with most of those strikes at 99-100 mph and his final pitch registering 100 mph on the Chase Field radar gun.

Best Off-Speed Stuff: Lucas Nawrocki (Sr., Aledo HS, Texas)

Nawrocki’s slider is the kind of pitch that can get him to the highest levels of the game just by itself.  He throws it from an extended ¾’s arm slot that creates big angle in the low 80’s with elite level spin rates around 3,200 rpm and showed advanced feel for the pitch this summer at PG events.

Best Pitchability:  Karson Reeder (Sr., Tomball HS, Texas)

Reeder’s raw stuff is very solid, with a 91-94 mph fastball to go with an upper 70’s slider and low 80’s change up.  But his command and ability to throw strikes while mixing his pitches is elite.  The 6-4/185 Texas signee went 12-2, 0.93 as a junior at Tomball HS with only 18 walks in 96 innings.  Over the past three years, he’s thrown 68% strikes in PG play with 47 strikeouts and only 7 walks in 30 innings.  Highly ranked 2027 right-hander George Ferguson (Jr., Abilene HS, Texas) deserves recognition here as well for his striking throwing ability, if not for his mid-90’s fastball.

No Luck Needed for the Shamrocks

Cam McElwaney
Article Image
The spring has come to a close and with the summer in full swing, it’s time to crown a National Champion for the High School season. The Trinity Shamrocks out of Louisville, Kentucky had an incredible year and finished the season winning back-to-back state titles, more impressively finishing on a 24 game winning streak. The spring was filled with dominant performances from the Shamrocks, led by PG All-American Grayson Willoughby who turned in a dominant effort in the state title game, a game in which they won 12-0. They played a rigorous schedule that saw them go 2-2 at NHSI including a win over St. John Bosco (CA) as well as a win over Tampa Jesuit (FL), both of which would go on to win state titles in powerhouse baseball states. The accolades don’t stop there as they posted six no-hitters across the spring as well as 21 shutout victories, making this one of the more...

Noah Harris (2028, Savannah, Ga.) has been swinging it well for CBU down in Hoover, driving in seven runs on three hits through just two days of action. He has a single, double, triple and three runs scored across a couple of games. The 6-foot-3 lefty hitter uses a consistent timing mechanism in the box with excellent leverage generated at impact, oftentimes from gap to gap. He wears a lean athletic build with plenty of projection and plus speed that makes him a serious threat on the basepaths. Harris has proven that he can hit for contact and power at the plate, making for a tough out against any arm. #Uncommitted ‘28 Evan Hedlund (AZ) pitching lights out for @ShowTime_Select; 7 Ks thru 3 IP thus far. "Why not us?" Canes MW Take 14u WWBA

Kinley Kitchens
Article Image
Every championship team has an identity. For Canes Midwest 14U National, it could be summed up in three simple words. "Why not us?" That became the team’s motto throughout the week, and by championship day, the players had turned those words into reality. Canes Midwest capped off a memorable tournament with a 8-4 victory over Canes National 14U, finishing an undefeated 11-0 run over six days while proving they belonged among the nation’s top teams. It was a championship built on timely hitting, dominant defense, relentless grit, and a belief that never wavered. For Coach Steiner, the title represented far more that simply winning another tournament. “It has been an unbelievable experience for us,” Steiner said. “Some people call us a mid-major, so I guess we are now solidified as being one of the top programs in the country.” That belief carried the...

Sequin III is a quick twitch, hyper quick prospect that sees his time at shortstop. Although there is present arm strength, projects slightly over to the right side of the field. Despite the smaller frame, he absolutely packs a punch. Shows the ability to burn on the bases and has exceptional bat-to-ball skills. Compact stroke that creates length and shows solid...

Fast and Furia at 14u WWBA

Kinley Kitchens
Article Image
Every successful team has talent, but the teams that make great summer ball runs often have something more. For Furia Prospects 2030, that difference has been a consistent commitment to playing for one another. The Texas-based team earned a 4-0 victory over East Cobb Astros 14U to secure their spot in the semifinals, combining dominant pitching with timely offense and another complete team performance. Christian Choe set the tone on the mound, allowing just two hits while striking out three over 4.2 innings before Blaine Jackson closed out the final four outs to preserve the shutout. At the plate, Brody Peterson paced the offense with a 2-for-3 performance and two RBI, while Mark De Leon and Jancarlos Nunez each drove in a run. Through these tournament games, Peterson has emerged as one of the team's most consistent hitters, batting .750 while continuing to deliver in key moments. Yet...
