Fast and Furia at 14u WWBA

Every successful team has talent, but the teams that make great summer ball runs often have something more.

For Furia Prospects 2030, that difference has been a consistent commitment to playing for one another.



The Texas-based team earned a 4-0 victory over East Cobb Astros 14U to secure their spot in the semifinals, combining dominant pitching with timely offense and another complete team performance. Christian Choe set the tone on the mound, allowing just two hits while striking out three over 4.2 innings before Blaine Jackson closed out the final four outs to preserve the shutout. At the plate, Brody Peterson paced the offense with a 2-for-3 performance and two RBI, while Mark De Leon and Jancarlos Nunez each drove in a run.

Through these tournament games, Peterson has emerged as one of the team's most consistent hitters, batting .750 while continuing to deliver in key moments. Yet for the Texas native, success has never been about individual numbers.

"Whenever there are runners on base, you have to be a team player," Peterson said. "It's not about the stats, it's not about you, it's about your team at the end of the day. Getting those runners in is just what you know you have to do."

Peterson's willingness to embrace any role has been very valuable throughout the tournament. Known primarily as a left-handed pitcher, he has also contributed at first base whenever the team has needed him.

"As a pitcher you are staying locked in and ready with every single pitch, and that is the same at first base," Peterson said.

"If I have to contribute in the outfield, at first base, or at the plate, I will do whatever I have to do and help my team win."

That mindset has become a defining characteristic throughout the Furia team.

Cordarral "CJ" Phillips has quietly put together one of the tournament's best performances, ranking among the top five performers while contributing on both sides of the ball. Even with the individual success, Phillips credits the team's chemistry more than anything else.

"Rest, eating good, and playing as a team," Phillips said. "The team helps you a lot. The energy in the dugout, staying focused, all of that contributes to being good, and having fun as a team is the best way to go out."

As Furia prepares for the semifinals, Phillips believes that same energy will continue to be the team's biggest advantage.

"Getting good sleep, staying focused, eating good, taking care of ourselves, and keeping the energy in the dugout," Phillips said. "If our energy is up, we will play good."

Another player helping fuel the postseason run has been Jacob Jimenez, who has consistently produced offensively while showcasing his versatility in the field. Although naturally a middle infielder, Jimenez has spent time at third base throughout the tournament.

"I practice both positions every single day," Jimenez said. "Playing a bunch of different positions and playing all over the field helps me a lot."

Like his teammates, Jimenez pointed to attitude as the key to remaining productive against some of the nation's top competition.

"Keeping my head up," Jimenez said. "I know there will be times where I fail, but I know bigger things are ahead. I want to continue bringing good energy to the team. If the team is doing good, then there is no reason for me to have my head down."

That message has echoed throughout Furia's dugout all week.

Whether it's Peterson delivering with runners in scoring position, Phillips leading with energy, or Jimenez embracing whatever role is asked of him, every player has contributed to the team's success.

As the semifinal round approaches, Jimenez believes continuing to support one another will be the difference.

"Being a team player is going to be the biggest factor in these next few games," Jimenez said. "When we want to go out and win it, being a good teammate is what's going to get us that win."

After shutting out one of the tournament's top teams to reach the semifinals, Furia Prospects 2030 has shown it possesses far more than talent. With dominant pitching, timely offense, and a roster committed to putting the team first, Furia enters the next round with confidence and with the kind of chemistry that can carry a team deep into the championship game.
