16u PG Elite Back in Hoover

One of the summer’s biggest events returns to Hoover this week as the nation’s top 16U teams prepare to compete in the 2026 Perfect Game National Elite Championship.

Now entering its seventh year, the invite-only event continues to bring together many of the country’s best teams and players for one of the most competitive tournaments on the summer calendar.

This tournament will host 104 teams from all across the country, all with the same goal of leaving Hoover as champions.

The tournament has consistently showcased top competition, with past champions including East Cobb Astros 16U Texas Orange, Top Tier Roos American, 5 Star Performance National, Canes National, MLB Breakthrough Series, and defending champion Excel Blue Wave National. With loaded rosters set to take the fields this week, a new chapter of championship baseball is ready to unfold.

Leading this year’s group of top players is Team Elite 16U Scout pitcher Cullen Scott, the No. 2 overall player and top-ranked right-handed pitcher in the 2028 class. Scott has established himself as one of the nation’s top two-way players, pairing impressive power at the plate with a fastball that has reached 96 mph.

Joining Scott on Team Elite 16U Scout is fellow national standout Colin Anderson. The No. 3 overall player and top-ranked middle infielder in the class has continued to impress as an advanced hitter, providing explosive power, and showcasing polished defensive actions, making Team Elite one of the top teams to watch throughout this tournament.

Texas will also be represented by Landon Bonner, the fourth-ranked shortstop nationally, whose consistent left-handed swing and impressive offensive skills have made him one of the top middle infield players in the country.

Fans won’t have to look far for hometown talent either.

Alabama native Hunter Elmore, the nation’s No. 3 first baseman from Moundville, enters the event after continuing to establish himself as one of the most powerful hitters in the 2028 class. Already owning an incredible 67 career Perfect Game homeruns, Elmore will look to put on another show throughout this tournament.

Another in-state player to watch is Hoover native, Hudson Oliver. After earning MVP honors at last year’s 15U Hoover Invitational, Oliver has continued to shine offensively while also showcasing his versatility on the mound, making him one of Alabama’s top all-around players entering the tournament this week.

North Carolina standout Levi Kerr also makes his way down to Hoover this week amongst the nationally ranked players. Known for his smooth left-handed swing and projectable frame, Kerr enters the tournament as one of the highest-rated hitters in the class and will look to lead Dirtbags National 2028 against some of the country’s toughest competition.

The talent extends well beyond the Southeast with Madden Pike. The No. 3-ranked catcher in the 2028 class from Puyallup, Washington will be competing for 16U Diamond Jaxx Santiago. Pike has earned a reputation for his advanced defensive skills behind the plate, impressive arm strength, and athletic versatility. Following in the footsteps of his older brother, 2024 Perfect Game All-American Mason Pike, Madden continues to establish himself as one of the country's premier catching prospects and will be another name to keep an eye on throughout the week.

As championship weekend approaches once again in Hoover, the 2026 PG National Elite Championship promises another week of high-level competition, memorable performances, and opportunities for the next generation of elite baseball to showcase their skills on one of Perfect Game’s biggest stages.

With nationally ranked players, powerful teams, and more than 100 elite teams all chasing the same championship trophy, fans expect another exciting week of baseball from first pitch through the final out.

Underclass Area Codes: Standout Arms

Joey Cohen
Article Image
Year in and year out when the best young talent from across the country is packed into one national-level event the arms tend to win the week. That feels especially true in today’s amateur game where velocity, pitch design and high-level training in general are being introduced earlier than ever, allowing young pitchers to develop impactful stuff at a faster rate than younger hitters can consistently catch up to it. The Underclass Area Code Games are no exception and this year there was no shortage of arms that made you stop and take notice. Narrowing it down to 10 was difficult, but I focused on the pitchers who either displayed starter-type traits, brought something genuinely different from a delivery standpoint whether it was slot, height, crossfire or deception or simply possessed an outlier element of stuff that separated them from the pack. These are the 10 arms that stood...

Area Code Gams: Prospect Recap

Steve Fiorindo
Article Image
Pitchers George Ferguson, RHP, Abilene HS  Ferguson toed the slab for the Rangers squad in game one of the Codes, setting the tone early with some loud stuff.  Ferguson attacked hitters with a verty fastball up to 96 that played well up in the zone with up to 24 inches of induced vertical break.  He showed more than just a power arsenal, going to the changeup often, using the pitch to put away hitters.  Kills the spin to the 1600’s, regularly getting 13-15 inches of horizontal break.  The slider rounded out the arsenal, working 82/83.  Struck out four over his three innings of work, two on the fastball, two on the change.  2026 PG All American committed to Texas.  Quinn Fitzpatrick, RHP, Stratford HS  Another 2026 PG All American out of Texas, the LSU commit punched out three over his two innings of work, allowing just one hit. ...

Brotherly Love Inspires Carter Hadnot

Jim Salisbury
Article Image
PHILADELPHIA – Perfect Game has been a big part of Carter Hadnot’s life since he was 12. He participated in more than a dozen tournaments and showcases, including prestigious Select Festivals as a 13U and 14U player, as well as last summer’s PG All-Star Game for underclassmen in San Diego.   The PG event that Hadnot always wanted to be part of was the DICK’s All-American Classic. Now, that’s on his resume, too. He played in the 24th annual Classic earlier this week at Citizens Bank Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies. “This means a lot to me,” he said during the event. “I always wanted to make it to Select Fest when I was younger. So, every time I get invited to an event it’s an honor and it’s fun. I don’t take it for granted. “This is definitely the one I always wanted to make it to. A lot of big names have...
