MIDWEST REGION (KS, MO, OK, AR, NE, IA, WI, MN, SD, ND)

There are players from six different states represented on the Midwest All-Region Team from the 10 states to draw from in the Region.  Surprisingly, Wisconsin is not one of those states in the 2025 edition of the team, while Missouri gets six players to lead all states.  Two Oklahoma seniors, Ethan Holliday and Eli Willits make up the left side of the All-Region infield and are PG All-Americans and the highest ranked players in the Region at first and 11th respectively.  Right hander Jordan Martin is the Region’s third All-American.



The Midwest Region has three teams ranked in the Top 50 in the Perfect Game Pre-Season rankings.  Missouri’s St. John Vianney High School, boosted by an outstanding senior class, is the highest ranked at 30th overall.  St. Thomas Aquinas represents Kansas at 38th in the country and Arkansas contributes Fayetteville High School at 42nd nationally.
 

C – Taitn Gray (Sr,. Dallas Center-Grimes HS, Iowa)

Gray is switch-hitting athlete who also can play outfield (6.64 speed) and is a three-sport standout with football and wrestling on his sports resume.  He dominated Iowa high school baseball last summer, hitting .538-14-39 and has easy plus power from both sides of the plate on his 6-3/215 frame.  Gray is signed with Oregon.

1B –  Cru Huenfeld (Sr., St. Thomas Aquinas HS, Kan.)   

Huenfeld is a big and strong left-handed hitter with an interesting combination of strength and athleticism.  At 6-3/230 he’s a 6.65 runner in the sixty and doubles as a defensive end on the football field.  Huenfeld showed very well at the PG National Showcase against upper-level pitching and is signed with Kansas.

MIF –   Landon Schaefer (Sr., Fayetteville HS, Ark.)

Schaefer is the highest ranked senior player in Arkansas and was the only junior on the 2024 Arkansas All-State Team.  He’s ranked 57th overall in the national PG class rankings.  A 6-3/190 right-handed hitter, Schaefer’s most promising tool is his bat and power potential as he continues to get stronger, which might point to a future at third base.  He is signed with Arkansas.

MIF –  Eli Willits (Sr., Fort Cobb-Broxton HS, Okla.)

Willits re-classified from the 2026 class at the beginning of the summer after dominating Oklahoma high school baseball as a sophomore, hitting .604 with 10 home runs.  Despite being 16 years old all summer, Willits was named to the PG All-American Classic and was the starting centerfielder on the USA 18U National Team.  A 6-1/175 switch-hitter who is still growing, Willits is the 11th ranked player in the 2025 class and is signed with Oklahoma.

3B –   Ethan Holliday (Sr., Stillwater HS, Okla.)

Holliday was the most famous freshman in baseball in 2022 while almost out-performing his brother Jackson and has continued to build on his resume since then, including holding down the number one spot in the PG national class rankings.  He hit .409-12-40 as a junior at Stillwater High School and was the starting third baseman on the USA 18U National Team along with being a PG All-American.

OF –  Sebastian Norman (Sr., Glendale HS, Mo.)

Norman has a very unusual combination of size and strength that is usually more associated with next level linebackers than baseball players.  Norman is listed at 6-2/235 and has huge right-handed bat speed and exit velocities.  He’s also a 6.50 runner with low to mid-90’s arm strength who can play both corner outfield positions and third base.  The 91st ranked player in the 2025 class nationally, Norman is signed with Oklahoma State. 

OF – Danny Wallace (Sr., Papillion-La Vista South HS, Neb.)

Wallace is a repeater on the All-Region team and gives the team a pair of future Oklahoma State Cowboys outfielders along with Sebastian Norman.  Wallace is a 6.45 runner with center field athleticism and a huge throwing arm.  In a sport that values consistency, it’s worth noting that Wallace hit .380-5-18 last year at Papillion LaVista South HS and has hit .382, .386 and .385 the past three summers in Perfect Game play.

OF – Josiah Kemp (Jr., Westmoore HS, Okla.)

Kemp is the 58th ranked player in the 2026 class nationally and is the only junior pure position player on the Midwest All-Region team.  While he’s a plus athlete with center field potential, Kemp’s highest ceiling is as a right-handed hitter with big power potential.  The cousin of three-time MLB All-Star Matt Kemp, Kemp hit .402-3-29 on the state champion Westmoore HS team as a sophomore.  He is committed to Oklahoma.

RHP Jordan Martin (Sr., Jefferson City HS, Mo.)

Martin is one of the most projectable top prospects in the 2025 class due to his 6-6/215 build, his smooth and fast arm and his high-level athleticism.  The PG All-American has been up to 95 mph on his fastball to go with a low 80’s slider and has always been a strike thrower due to his easy mechanics.  Martin is signed with Arkansas and is the top ranked player in Missouri and ranked 59th nationally.

RHP Savion Sims (Jr., Edmond Santa Fe HS, Okla.)

Sims doesn’t have much experience on the big stage but has a high of ceiling as any player in the 2026 class nationally.  He’s a full 6-8/205 and has a high-octane arm, having topped out at 97 mph already.  Sims went 6-0, 1.80 with 47 strikeouts in 32 innings as a sophomore at Edmond Santa Fe and is ranked 17th nationally in the 2026 class.  He’s committed to Oklahoma.

RHP  Richie Swain (Sr., Timberland HS, Mo.)

Swain is a long and loose 6-5/200 right-hander with plenty of physical projection remaining.  He’s been up to 94 mph on his fastball and his best pitch is a sharp low 80’s slider that he has very good feel for locating.  Swain is ranked 148th overall in the 2025 class in the PG rankings and is signed with Mississippi State.

RHP Grady Westphal (Sr., Blue Valley HS, Kan.)

A Texas signee, Westphal is the 156th ranked player in the 2025 class and went 5-1, 0.77 on the mound last spring with 77 strikeouts featuring a fastball up to 94 mph to go with an upper 70’s curveball.  Westphal is a talented dual sport athlete who had 109 receptions for 2,118 yards in three years as a varsity wide receiver.

RHP Tyler Wood (Sr., Lees Summit West HS, Mo.)

Wood is a quality athlete with two-way potential in addition to his talents on the mound.  A strong 6-3/210 right-hander, Wood tops out at 94-95 mph on his fastball to go with a hard breaking ball and solid present pitchability.  He’s also a 6.82 runner with 95 mph arm strength and good right-handed power at the plate.  Wood is signed with Tennessee and is the 116th ranked senior in the country.

UT –  Beau Peterson (Jr., Mill Valley, Kan.)

Peterson is a one-man roster along with being the seventh ranked player in the 2026 class nationally.  He’s a primary third baseman but has also caught, played the outfield and been in the low 90’s off the mound.  A 6-3/210 left-handed hitter, Peterson has outstanding bat speed and barrel feel and hit an eye opening .525-2-22 with 14 steals in 23 PG games in 2024.  The Texas commit is also a 6.78 runner.  Arkansas signee IF/RHP Carson Brumbaugh (Sr., Edmond Santa Fe HS, Okla.) would get this slot in many other regions and is the 67th ranked player nationally in the 2025 class.


Midwest Region Top Tools 


Best Hitter for Average: Eli Willits (Sr., Fort Cobb-Broxton HS, Okla.)

Willits father, Reggie, played six years in the big leagues for the Angels and is currently the Associate Head Coach at Oklahoma, so his son has an outstanding swing from both sides of the plate.  Willits barrels up everything hard, especially from the left side, and has more power than you’d expect from a player who will be only 17.7 years old on Draft Day 2025.

Best Hitter for Power: Ethan Holliday (Sr., Stillwater HS, Okla.)

Along with all his other accolades and achievements, Holliday has 37 home runs already in his high school career, which is especially impressive given how frequently he has been walked since the first week of his freshman season.

Best Runner: Chase Porter (Sr., Kearney HS, Mo.)

Porter is a switch-hitting center fielder who ran a blazing 6.35 sixty at the PG National Showcase.  He has plenty of arm defensively and should become a top of the order table setter at Louisville.

Best Defensive Catcher: Charlie Wortham (Sr., DeSmet Jesuit HS, Mo.)

Wortham is a plus athlete for a catcher and has a loose and explosive lower half that also enables him to run 6.7 in the sixty.  He also has a strong 6-1/205 build that has enabled him to add lots of power in his right-handed swing over the last year and contributed to his hitting .423-6-23 as a junior at DeSmet Jesuit HS as a junior.  The 142nd ranked player in the 2025 class nationally, Wortham is signed with Mississippi State.

Best Defensive Infielder: Eli Willits (Sr., Fort Cobb-Broxton HS, Okla.)

Willits has very smooth actions and is especially polished given his age.  The fact that he was able to transition seamlessly to center field at times during the summer and fall is a testament to his overall athleticism.

Best Defensive Outfielder: Danny Wallace (Sr., Papillion-La Vista South HS, Neb.)

Wallace has that combination of speed and arm strength that you are looking for at every defensive position on the field.  He is the 73rd ranked prospect in the 2025 class nationally.

Best Defensive Arm: Danny Wallace (Sr., Papillion-La Vista South HS, Neb.)

Wallace threw 97 mph from the outfield at the PG National Showcase and has regularly been in the low 90’s off the mound as well.

Best Fastball: Savion Sims (Jr., Edmond Santa Fe HS, Okla.)

There’s no telling how hard Sims might throw once he starts maturing physically and gets more innings under his belt.  It will be fun to follow his development this spring and summer.

Best Off-Speed Stuff: Richie Swain (Sr., Timberland HS, Mo.)

Swain’s slider has 2600+ rpm with big depth and plenty of power in the low 80s.  The fact that he throws it from a deceptive mid 3/4’s cross-body arm slot makes the pitch even more effective.

Best Pitchability: Jordan Martin (Sr., Jefferson City HS, Mo.)

Martin’s combination of low effort mechanics and high-level athleticism is perfect for profiling a strike thrower who can locate and mix his pitches.

Best Multi-Sport Athlete: Jordan Martin (Sr., Jefferson City HS, Mo.)

The 6-6 Martin is one of the top basketball players in Missouri and set a single game scoring mark last month by netting 46 points in a Jefferson City game.  He’s surpassed 2,000 points for his career and was averaging over 30 points/game midway through this season.

Another few weeks have wrapped up this high school season as we’re flying through the spring and most southern states are starting playoffs right around the corner. With the end of the regular season, we have another National Top 50 update to bring to you, along with this will be the start of the weekly editions of our National Top 50. We have a change at the top of the rankings as Venice (FL) takes over the top spot after just dominating their competition in the state of Florida this year. Orange Lutheran (CA) drops one spot to No. 2 after dropping a series but still holds firm at No. 2 in the country. Barbe (LA) has continued to dominate and holds onto the No. 3 spot while Tomball (TX) skyrockets in this update to No. 4 in the country, currently holding an incredible 30-0-1 record. April 21st Perfect Game/Player of the Week:  Tague Davis, IF, Louisville  The Louisville Cardinals (22-18) haven’t been able to get themselves in much of a groove this spring, their longest winning streak is 5-games, and they are (4-6) in their last 10-games.  The issue has not been the offense as the Cardinals are averaging over 8-runs per game and Tague Davis is leading the club in virtually every offensive category.  His calling card is his 70-grade power and that was on display last weekend in their series against Cal.  In the three-game series, Davis went 7 for 12, scoring 4 runs, launching 5 home runs and collected 7 RBIs.  The 6-4/220 lefthanded hitter from West Chester, PA has a pure stroke, is one of the premier power hitters in the nation and has significantly improved his plate discipline from a year ago.  After his big weekend, he is...

As the old saying goes, “all good things must come to an end” and that was the case last Tuesday when UCLA (36-3) saw their 27-game win streak come to an end in a shutout loss to UCSB.  However, the No. 1 team in the land still has their 21-game winning streak in Big Ten to protect, as they have started off league play without a single blemish.  The Bruins will remain atop our poll this week and their historical start to the season roll on.  The UNC Tarheels (33-7-1) move up to No. 2 this week after they made their biggest statement of the year by taking the weekend series from now No. 4 Georgia Tech (32-7).  No. 3 Texas (30-8) and No. 5 Georgia (32-9) both went (3-1) on the week and won their SEC series to stay in contention for the regular season title.  Florida State (28-11) had a nice bounce back (4-0) week and re-enter the Top 10 at No. 8 this...

Another week of undefeated weeks for our top 4 ranked teams. Joining them in the top 5, coming off an undefeated week of their own, is Florence-Darlington, a team we have consistently had as a top 10 team all season long. Cloud County and Midland College continue to put together strong weeks and climb the rankings each week it seems. Jumping into the rankings this week on the strength of a 15-game winning streak is Seminole State (OK).
